19 ANNUAL REPORT 20

LETTER FROM THE

head school of

Dear Family and Friends of Trinity Hall,

In September 2019, Trinity Hall’s school year began with the usual flurry of excitement and anticipation, new faces to welcome, and opening trips to enjoy. We continued through much of our seventh year enjoying and building upon the exceptional programs and traditions of our community. Then, in March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic challenged us to extend the walls of Trinity Hall when we pivoted to a remote – but personally connected -- model.

As you will see throughout the pages of this report, our story of empowerment, community, sisterhood, collaboration, and support continued through the remainder of the school year. Thanks to your generosity, we were ready with the latest technology to provide remote learning and extracurricular experiences to our students at home. Our students stepped up in their communities, completing more than 8,000 service hours despite not having our annual service day. At an in-person ceremony in July, we celebrated the commencement of our largest class of graduates who rose to the occasion in their remaining months as students, leading with exemplary sisterhood and grace. Together, we turned the challenges of 2020 into redefining moments – and MORE!

We are particularly grateful for your support this year, a time that may have presented new personal challenges. Thank you for keeping Trinity Hall a priority in your giving as we endeavor to meet the new demands of our world while creating new opportunities for our students to thrive. We cannot meet the challenges of this new environment at the level our students and your daughters deserve without your continued support.

As we persevere in a world that looks different, we hold fast to our mission and remain dedicated to serving the young women of Monmouth, Middlesex, and Ocean counties. With your contributions to the Fund for Trinity Hall, I am confident we will continue to change the landscape of education for our young women of infinite promise. Trinity Hall women are prepared to meet these new challenges and lead the way!

Very truly yours,

history

In 2010, after many years of discussion, Mairead and Sean Clifford, Victoria and Justin Gmelich, and many others began the journey of starting an independent, all-girls high school in Monmouth County. The first step was to hire a professional educational consulting firm to conduct a county-wide feasibility study which proved an overwhelming demand for a single-sex school to serve the young women of our region.

In September 2013, Trinity Hall opened its doors to our inaugural ninth grade class in Leonardo, NJ before moving to our permanent location in 2016 at the former Fort Monmouth in Tinton Falls. In just seven years, Trinity Hall has become one of the leading schools in Central New Jersey with a diverse student body of more than 300 students representing three counties and nearly 50 towns.

mission

Trinity Hall is an independent, all-girls school that educates and empowers young women in the Catholic tradition through an innovative college preparatory program grounded in our four core values of leadership, respect, perseverance, and faith. Trinity Hall prepares each student to achieve her full potential as she embraces her place in the world.

At Trinity Hall, the word support references many things. Our students are encouraged and protected by our

“circle of support”

where overachievement may be supported in an environment that is close-knit and caring, surrounded by faculty, students, and families that work together to build relationships to ensure individual and collective success; our vision is supported by our outstanding faculty and staff, dedicated to providing the highest quality education, uniquely tailored to nurture the intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical gifts of each individual; and our mission is supported by our donors – the board, faculty and staff, parents, grandparents, alumnae, and friends who give so generously so that Trinity Hall can continue to be an educational option for all young women in our area.

5TH ANNUAL TRINITY HALL GALA

Friday, October 11, 2019

10

“Trinity Hall is a story about folks coming together to deliver a solution to a problem that existed in Monmouth County. When the four founders started to understand why an all-girls high school didn’t exist, it motivated us and our resolve was strengthened. We never stopped believing, didn’t take ‘no’ for an answer and could not be happier with the results and the promise the future holds.”

– Mairead and Sean Clifford, co-founders, board of trustees members, and parents to Brigid ’18, Molly ’20, and Ciara ’22.

empowerment

12

Trinity Hall is a place designed especially for girls and the way they learn. Studies show that girls find it easier to excel and become more confident learners in an all-girl setting. At Trinity Hall, every girl is an achiever in her own way. Students start clubs, plan service projects, play on sports teams, and hold all of the leadership positions.

Girls who attend a girls’ school are more than twice as likely to earn a doctoral degree.

Three in five graduates of girls’ schools say they believe they are better able to balance the demands of career and family than their peers.

A third of female corporate board members of Fortune 500 companies are girls’ school graduates.

13

sisterhood

14

“One of my favorite things about Trinity Hall is that we really put into action the idea of ‘girls support girls’. We want to bring each other up, we want to raise each other up. As girls we’re pinned against each other so often in the world, but I really appreciate that Trinity Hall is a community where we can come together and support one another no matter whether your interest is in art, athletics, academics…everyone is understanding and accepting of one another.”

15
16
collaboration

After qualifying for the National Championship of the Girls Go CyberStart coding competition for the first time ever, the Trinity Hall computer science team of Isabella Giallanza, Maggie Jordan, Caitlin Ramos, and Hannah Wietzke (’21) finished 18th out of 276 teams.

The Queen’s Court Company’s fall drama Blue Stocking earned nine Count Basie Award nominations, including Outstanding Production, Outstanding Featured Ensemble Group, and Outstanding Lighting Designer. Patti Frees ’20 took home a win for Outstanding Costume Design.

For a second year in a row Trinity Hall earned the prestigious ShopRite Cup, awarded by the NJSIAA to the highest performing school in each division based on points accrued for state tournament performance and seasonlong sportsmanship. The Monarchs are the youngest program to win the ShopRite Cup in NJSIAA history.

17

Over 5,000 pounds of clothes were donated to the Parents’ Association clothing drive, which translated into $765 to support student activities.

Kelsey Cooper ’20 was named a Commended Student in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

65 SIGNS

Trinity Hall faculty and staff delivered to the Class of 2020 during the start of the pandemic. A car parade followed the Trinity Hall bus (with the Monarch mascot) over four days in April, bringing signs, smiles, and lots of honking in celebration of their senior year.

Trinity Hall was recognized for our STEM program by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools as a Program of Distinction – STEM. This recognition is the gold standard for college preparatory study in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.

18

The Trinity Hall athletic staff organized student-athlete workshops focusing on areas such as preparation, motivation, focus and thought management and adversity and pressure through joint sessions with CBA student-athletes and guest speakers from Rutgers and Empowered Learning Transformation Centers. Trinity Hall alum Caroline Gmelich ’17 shared her experiences with overcoming adversity to reach her goals as a swimmer at the University of Virginia.

Trinidad Winter, cousin of senior Sophia Gana ‘20, joined the community from Santiago, Chile as Trinity Hall’s first exchange student.

Isabel Garcia ’21 won Trinity Hall’s first state title in the 400-meter race at the Non-Public B State Championships.

Trinity Hall’s basketball season received recognition in several categories: Caitlin Wingertzahn ‘20 was named the player of the year for the B-Central division, Coach Matthew McCarthy was named coach of the division, Haven Dora ‘22 was selected for the First Team All-Division, and Maggie Ward ‘20 and Colleen Kelly ‘20 were selected for the Second Team All-Division.

Dianna Whaley ‘21 and Katie Lasko ’21 hosted the first virtual Evening of Fine Arts which featured performance pieces, instrumental and vocal performances, artwork, and photographs by students.

Trinity Hall faculty and students found many ways to help during the pandemic including sewing and donating masks, donating food to healthcare workers, delivering care packages to local businesses, sending flowers to nursing homes, and donating PPE to nearby hospitals.

20

“Trinity Hall truly gave me the power to think for myself and to take my learning and apply it to the real world in a very multifaceted, holistic way. Trinity taught me how to tactfully solve problems and approach the unknown in ways that I don’t think I would have been able to had I not attended The Hall. When I look back at my friends now…we met when we were quirky fourteen-year-olds and now when I look at them I see these sophisticated, driven, well-spoken, ambitious women and I can directly see the transformation that occurred at Trinity Hall.”

“My ‘Beyond the Hall’ externship has been such a successful experience. As a rising senior in college, I am wrapping up my third summer as an Intern at Fullscreen, a branch of Warner Media Group. Because I got my foot in the door early, I have been able to work as a strategist for HBO and Netflix, and worked on projects such as Tiger King, Becoming, and new projects for HBO Max - all thanks to Trinity Hall!”

Trinity Hall provides opportunity for many underserved young women in our area and supports their full participation in all aspects of our school, but we cannot do so without the generous support of our donors.

OUR SCHOOL DRAWS STUDENTS FROM OVER 50 DIFFERENT TOWNS

across Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean counties, resulting in a diverse population of students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds.

By making a restricted gift to support financial aid, you reinforce our commitment to our mission of making an all-girls education available to all young women.

25

capital campaign

A capital campaign is a restricted fund for which fundraising efforts continue for a specific period of time to reach a significant monetary goal. Trinity Hall’s first capital campaign was a huge success, and supported the renovation of our Fort Monmouth campus and the new addition. Future campaigns will seek to improve our campus with more learning spaces, and arts and athletic facilities.

LETTER FROM THE

board chair

Wow – just when we thought things were smooth sailing we end up in a global pandemic. It is incredible how the world was turned on its head in a matter of days. In our case, one day we were open and the next day we welcomed our students to a new remote campus. What we expected to be two weeks became, sadly, months. There has been heartache, loss, financial struggles and countless other negatives associated with COVID-19. Each of us have individual stories but together we have all prevailed. Our pivot to online learning was seamless, as we have been a leader in virtual education since inception. Our platform to teach girls remotely to account for snow days set us up for success in what became a virtual world. Our girls were able to keep to our demanding curriculum and to perform well on advanced placement exams and national standardized testing. Our graduates will be attending some of the finest schools in the country and, most important, they are happy. We continue to outperform our competitors, as we remain open for business and stick to our mission of educating our girls in the Catholic tradition.

Please peruse these pages of our 2019-2020 Annual Report to see what we have accomplished but to also see what you have helped us accomplish. Your generous support has allowed us to narrow the gap between what we charge for tuition and what it actually costs us to educate our students. We will always endeavor to improve our culture and curriculum, and to support our students to become citizens of tomorrow. We know that our graduates will be leaders and will make the world a better place. We already see the marks of Trinity Hall on our community. Thank you for helping us stay at the top as we continue to change the landscape of education for girls in our area.

Very truly yours,
