“DEAR EDITOR”

Every year, members of Trinity’s Spanish language club host a Spanish Scrabble tournament. The tournament featured students from every grade and proficiency level looking to have fun and learn more about the language. From the importance of recycling to thoughts on the current political climate, 11 students from Ms. Reid’s English class found their letters to the editor published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The letters crafted coherent arguments and used rhetorical strategies to support them. “The main thing with the letter is finding something that they care enough about to write in support of it,” said Ms. Reid. “That’s my favorite part of the assignment — seeing their opinions

TITAN’S CROSSING

The American Society of Civil Engineers held a contest last winter at the Science Museum of Virginia, welcoming schools from across the state. Trinity’s Science Society built “Titan’s Crossing,” a bridge out of popsicle sticks and glue, over three Sundays in January. In their first time at the event, the Science Society placed 3rd!

FESTIVE FOR FILM

In an effort to explore cultural themes through cinema, Trinity hosts an International Film Festival each February. Students in the International Film Festival club select the films, staff the screenings and promote the event to their classmates during Morning Meetings. This year’s festival included selections filmed in Mandarin, Hindi, French and Arabic.

ROCKIN’ ROBOTICS

Right before spring break, the Trinity robotics team took a trip to Haymarket, Virginia for their first district competition of the year, where “Team 539” took home 3rd place in a pool of nearly 40 teams around the state of Virginia.

CONGRÈS FRANÇAIS

A group French students attended the Congrès Français at Midlothian High School in March to immerse themselves in French language and culture. While there, Lucie Speck ’20 and Layal El-Ayoubi ’23 placed 1st and 2nd respectively in their competitions!

CHICKEN ‘N’ WAFFLES

Molly Sanyour’s ’01 ceramics students took a break from throwing plates and bowls to practice styling photo shoots to showcase their work with a chicken and waffles lunch. After photos and videos were taken, everyone dug in to their food props!

“GREETINGS, EARTHLINGS”

To celebrate Earth Day, student leaders and faculty sponsors from Trinity’s SEA (Students for Environmental Action) Club collaborated on a series of video clips about how to be environmentally minded while staying at home. Students shared tips on building vegetable gardens, growing from seeds, capturing rainwater, raising bees and making compost The videos were assembled by club sponsor Michael Stratton ’02 and shared at Virtual Morning Meeting on April 21 and April 23.

VIRTUAL ENGAGEMENT

Ella Browder-Jones ’21 refused to let social distancing keep her from making a difference in her community. Jones, a Spanish 4 Honors student, created an online teaching resource filled with video instruction and corresponding worksheets for those who speak Spanish or those who know none.

MCCRACKEN ME UP

During a virtual Morning Meeting in late May, David McCracken ’20 was chosen as the recipient of this year’s highly coveted Cornmaster Award. Here are a few corny jokes delivered during his acceptance speech:

“I have many musical friends, too. In fact, one of my friends told me the other day that he had to go to the optometrist — Yeah, he said he couldn’t C-sharp.

What do you call a hen that counts her own eggs? — A mathemachicken!

I have a relative who says he went to college for four years and learned nothing. Although, he says it’s probably his fault. He was a double major.
