Lower School Transitional Kindergarten to Grade 6

Trinity’s Lower School learning experience establishes a strong educational foundation for students while nurturing their character and integrity in the context of Christian faith and conviction. Trinity teachers know their subjects— and their students—well. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum balances the big ideas of Bible, literature, history, and science with skill development in reading, math, writing, and problem solving.

Known and Loved Appreciating the uniqueness of each child The Trinity classroom is a place where children learn about themselves and others, and where they can be themselves while respecting other people. In this caring school community, students can experience the joy and wonder of learning together.

Trinity helps students discover and strengthen their gifts and become who God has created them to be. Our teachers recognize the uniqueness of each child and create a classroom atmosphere where students feel safe and secure.

A strong foundation for a lifetime At Trinity, we desire that our students grow in their relationship with God and others and acquire a sense of belonging in their classroom and in the community. Teachers focus on shepherding young hearts and guiding children in the ways of God’s wisdom. Christian values like kindness, respect, grace, and forgiveness develop through conversations, sharing, and praying. The habits of listening well, paying attention, and asking questions enable children to become both good citizens and engaged learners.

Authentic Learning Engaging the imagination and the intellect Trinity’s curriculum engages children’s imagination and curiosity. Through rich literature, hands-on and multisensory activities, and meaningful play both in the classroom and outdoors, our young learners explore concepts in real and tangible ways while increasing their understanding of the world around them.

Individual Attention Caring and supportive faculty Transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classes are designed for individual attention. TK and K have small class sizes of 12–14 students with a full-time teacher and teacher assistants in each class. Grades 1–6 have up to 18 students in each section or homeroom.

Special Subjects Students find joy across campus Trinity Lower School students have enriching opportunities to explore special subjects in addition to their core classes. Students in grades 1–3 study Spanish, and students in grades 4–6 study Latin. Latin class focuses on grammar and vocabulary, and it is designed to accommodate new students who have not previously studied this language.

Art integrates the study of famous artists and hands-on student experience within a wide range of media and art techniques. There is an emphasis on multistep projects that teach creativity, problem solving, and craftsmanship.

Music studies focus on music theory, history, rhythm, and performance. Students may also participate in cocurricular band, chorus, or string ensembles.

Physical Education classes feature activities to improve health, endurance, strength, and sport-specific skills. Students in grade 6 have the opportunity to compete on Trinity’s Middle School athletic teams.

Transitional Kindergarten Bridge from Preschool to Kindergarten

Trinity’s TK gives younger five-year-olds a place to learn and grow in a nurturing environment tailored to meet their academic and social needs. The gift of time lets our TK Cubs follow their natural developmental path and develop their readiness skills, which fosters confidence and a love of learning.

Our TK curriculum combines academics with attention to the playful side of fiveyear-olds. The TK class investigates fascinating topics and participates in a variety of activities at school and in the community.

Transitional Kindergarten students must be five years old on or before December 31 of the school year for which they are applying. Kindergarten students must be five years old on or before July 1 of the school year for which they are applying.

TK students move to kindergarten the following year.
