WELCOME BACK! Dear Parents, I pray your summer has been a relaxing and enjoyable one.

Things are gearing up around here, and soon our teachers and staff will be back on campus, recharged and ready to partner with you for another great year. Our summer has been busy preparing for our 50th school year and the many exciting things that we have in store.

Before-School Supervision

Before-school supervision is available for Lower School students beginning at 7:30 a.m. Students should report to the Lower School Cafeteria. Before-school supervision for preK will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the early childhood activity room.

Before-school supervision is available for Middle School students in the Middle School Library beginning at 7 a.m.

This service is offered free of charge.

AfterSchoolCare@TCA

n Lower School: After-school care is available for all Lower School students who need to remain on campus after dismissal. After-school care ends at 6 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. n Middle School: The program is available for Middle School students who need to remain on campus beyond 3:45 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 1:45 p.m. on Friday. After-school care ends at 6 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. n Activities: Lower School after-school care includes study hall time for first- through fourth-graders, games, activities and access to the playground for all preK through fourth-graders. The Middle School program utilizes the Middle School Library for study hall, computer time and board games. n Cost: Parents are charged $10 per hour. School Supplies

School supplies for grades K–8 are included in tuition and are delivered to the students at the beginning of the school year. Seventh- and eighthgraders will need a TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator. Students in grades 9–12 will receive their supply lists the first day of school.

Summer Reading

Check out the Summer Reading Resource Board on the TCA website to make sure your child has read the books required for his/her summer reading assignment (grades 2–12). Book lists, assignment instructions and any packets and/or forms that need to be completed and turned in at the start of school are available for download from the resource board.

In it, you will find articles that tell the story of our school, from students to faculty to alumni. n Grade-level/school Facebook groups: Parents can join our private Facebook groups to see photos and stories of all the great things happening in our classrooms. TCA is thrilled to offer a wide variety of new after-school courses for children in grades preK–8, led by a dynamic and creative teaching staff, who provide students with the opportunity to discover new interests, develop specialized skills and have fun. Most courses run from September through December.

TCA is excited to announce that Justin Zappia will serve as our new director of auxiliary programs. Justin oversees Summer@TCA (summer school), AfterCare@TCA (after-school care) and Enrichment@TCA (new enrichment courses).

Justin brings a great deal of experience in private schools and specifically in running summer and after-school programs. For the past several years, Justin has worked at Brookwood School, a private school in Manchester, Massachusetts, as the director of auxiliary programs. Prior to that, Justin worked at The Canterbury School in North Carolina in various roles, including summer camp director, teacher, coach, outdoor education lead teacher and athletic director.

We are blessed to have Justin, Jen and their three children join the TCA family.

Dr. Kelli Duhaney

Due to the ever-changing nature of technology, as well as the educational implications it has, the Technology Department has been strategically planning for the best ways to continue to serve our school.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Kelli Duhaney will join the Technology Department, under the leadership of Lisa Wong. Kelli will assume a newly created position as the director of STEM and technology integration.

Kelli will focus on • Technology integration in the classroom for grades preK–12, student usage and technology curriculum • Campus-wide digital citizenship integration that includes training for students, faculty and parents • Oversight of TCA’s STEM/STEAM program Kelli received her doctor of education in organizational leadership with a concentration in emerging technology. She has four years of teaching experience and has done extensive research on best practices in digital learning and STEM instruction, analysis, instructional design and leading evolving digital learning systems.

Lower School

• Option A (LS Cafeteria): This is the preferred location for all students and especially PreK, K and first-grade students. Teachers will be at this location to assist unloading all students. Enter at the US entrance on Addison Road. Head west in front of the US towards the baseball field.

• Before 8 a.m., follow the carpool flow around the baseball field and to the far west side of the US main parking lot and back around to the south side of the US/north side of the LS. Drop off students at the sidewalk by the curb that leads to the LS cafeteria and playground. Pull forward as far as possible. Exit at Addison Road; police are on duty to assist turning north or south onto Addison Road.

• After 8 a.m., vehicles will be allowed to continue driving south past the US rather than driving around the US main parking lot. Drop off students at the sidewalk by the curb that leads to the LS cafeteria and playground. Pull forward as far as possible. Exit at Addison Road.

• Option B (LS Lobby): Students must be able to exit car without adult assistance. Families with LS and MS students can drop off in front of the Lower School/ Lower School Library Complex. Please pull forward as far as possible and remain in the right-hand lane until you have cleared the cones. Parents are strongly encouraged to drop off all students with one stop. Exit onto Addison Road; drivers are required to turn south

onto Addison Road. Please note: if a parent needs to enter a building between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m., please drop off; then park your car and walk in.

Students must be picked up with carpool number. Enter at the US entrance on Addison Road. Head west in front of the US towards the baseball field. Once you enter the US main parking lot, choose a lane for pick-up: row one - LS Cafeteria or row two - Art Wing. Follow the carpool flow around the baseball field, to the far west side of the US main parking lot and to the south side of the US/north side of the LS. Students will be brought to your car at the curb along the north side of the LS or at the Art Wing.

• Row One - LS Cafeteria exits onto Addison Road; police are on duty to assist turning north or south.

• Row 2 - Art Wing exits onto Sojourn Drive.

MIDDLE SCHOOL DROP-OFF - 7:30–8 a.m. (M–F) Students should be dropped off prior to 8 a.m. at either the south entrance to the MCB or the north entrance of the Middle School. Students arriving after 8 a.m. should check in at the Middle School Office.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PICK-UP - 3:20–3:45 (M–Th), 1:30–1:40 (F) n 5th and 6th grade 5th/6th grade students are not permitted to pick up Lower School siblings.

Fifth-grade students should be picked up in front of the Lower School Library Complex.

When picking up, parents should pull forward to the front of the north entrance of the Middle School building. Please do not stop in front of the fifth-grade door if there is room to pull forward.

Sixth-grade students should be picked up in the lot located at the south entrance to the MCB. When picking up, parents should pull forward as far as possible.

Families with students in both fifth and sixth grade can pick up students in either the fifth-grade location or the sixth-grade location.

UPPER SCHOOL DROP-OFF - 7:30–8 a.m. (M–F) UPPER SCHOOL PICK-UP - 3:30–3:45 (M–Th), 1:45–2 (F) Locations n Option A: Head west in front of the US towards the baseball field. Make a U-turn

around the triangular island in the turn by the baseball field and head back east towards the US. There is a short drop-off zone along the curb by the US Main Entrance on the north side of the building. Exit the campus onto Addison Road.

n Option B: Follow the carpool flow around the baseball field and to the far west

side of our parking lots and back around to the south side of the US. Drop off and pick up students at the sidewalk by the curb which leads to the west entrance to the History/ English hallway. Exit the campus south by the Art Wing onto Sojourn or circle around the US by the LS playground and exit onto Addison Road.

n Option C: Same as option B, only circle around the US in between the LS and US

and drop off or pick up on the east side of the US at the PAC covered drive-through. Exit the campus onto Addison Road.

Students who choose the Athletic Development program in any given trimester will be picked up at the Athletic Training Center (ATC) between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. (M–Th).

Students who are participating on an athletic team will be picked up in the location communicated by the coach, usually between 4 and 4:20 p.m (M–Th).

On Fridays, all seventh- and eighth-grade students will be picked up at the lot located at the south entrance to the MCB between 1:30 and 1:40 p.m.

PARENT-TEACHER FELLOWSHIP THE PARENT-TEACHER FELLOWSHIP (PTF) was

organized to enhance the relationship between TCA families and the school. Its membership includes every parent and teacher at TCA. The PTF officers and committee chairmen serve under the direction of the director of volunteer services, Camille Walker. Profits raised from uniform resale and the rebate program are used for the Teacher Emergency Fund, treats for teachers, Mini School Night receptions, as well as other activities.

The PTF coordinates the following programs and projects: The Room Mother Program benefits

teachers, students and the entire school. Room mothers coordinate mission projects, class parties, luncheons and many other activities.

PTF conducts a volunteer forum and a spring orientation for new incoming room mothers.

The MPACT prayer coordinators oversee

MPACT (Moms Praying and Coming Together), TCA’s prayer program. Under the guidance of the PTF president, they are responsible for planning MPACT events, such as the prayer and praise times throughout the school year, and for assisting grade-level prayer coordinators.

The Wall of Prayer is a school-wide

ministry that covers every TCA student, teacher and staff member in daily prayer.

Parents who register with Wall of Prayer are given up to four names of students and teachers to pray for daily throughout the school year. All prayer partners use the same daily verse guide, which is located on the TCA website, to create a strong wall of protection and blessing around our students and our school. Parents may register for Wall of Prayer on the TCA website or at Mini School Nights and will receive their prayer assignments via email in September.

Wall of Prayer is a wonderful gift of daily service to our school.

The Faculty and Staff Appreciation Luncheon honors TCA’s faculty and staff with a delicious buffet in beautifully decorated surroundings. Parents provide the many side dishes, decorate, set up and serve the food, as well as supervise the students at lunch and on the playgrounds on our employees’ favorite day of the year. To volunteer, visit the TCA website on September 11.

A DIFFERENCE The Trinity Christian Academy Foundation, under the leadership of its Board of Directors, is a non-profit corporation separate from TCA and its Board of Trustees. The primary purpose of the foundation is to oversee the management of the endowment and to raise funds to further the mission of TCA. Currently, the endowment totals over $8.5 million and includes 48 designated scholarship and teacher enrichment funds.

Your generosity, through gifts to the TCA Foundation, helps to empower the school, benefiting each student and faculty member, and leaving a legacy for future generations. Donations provide revenue for a wide range of initiatives:

n Student Tuition Aid (STA): STA helps current students continue at TCA when their families encounter unexpected difficulties, such as the loss of a loved one or a job and other financial challenges. In addition, STA supports families who could not otherwise afford a Christian education. Approximately 10% of our students receive STA, and the annual need is $1.5 million.

n Student Tuition Aid Endowment: Endowments support TCA by perpetually providing income from your donated gifts to the Joyce E. Millet Student Tuition Aid Endowment. A named endowment can be established with an initial gift of $25,000. The corpus of the fund is maintained and invested, and a portion of the earnings is distributed to provide tuition assistance annually.

n Pursuing Excellence Capital Campaign: Gifts to the capital campaign help forge the future for TCA by transforming our campus.
