WELCOME BACK! Dear Parents, I pray your summer has been a relaxing and enjoyable one.

Things are gearing up around here, and soon our teachers and staff will be back on campus, recharged and ready to partner with you for another great year. Our summer has been busy preparing for our 48th school year and the many exciting things that we have in store.

This Back-to-School Guide contains all of the information you need to get back in the swing of school, and you will also find this information on the TCA website. Please make plans to join us for Back-to-School events.

Your involvement is an integral part of our success, and I invite you to take advantage of all the things that TCA has to offer. I look forward to seeing you on campus very soon!

BIG BLUE Welcome to BIG BLUE! BIG BLUE is Trinity Christian Academy’s school store. BIG BLUE serves the TCA community by providing spirit wear, sweatshirts and fleeces to wear with our uniforms, PE uniforms, gifts, accessories, snacks and drinks and partners with PTF to support our Uniform Resale program.

BIG BLUE is located in the portable buildings on the west side of campus between the MCB and Tom Landry Stadium.

Both the directory and the 2017-18 TCA Calendar, which includes all TCA events, are handy to have at home, in your office or in your car. TCA directories and calendars are available for purchase only in BIG BLUE.

Regular store hours will begin on Monday, August 28.

UNIFORM RESALE TCA Uniform Resale is sponsored by the TCA Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF). The money raised from Uniform Resale funds the many wonderful PTF programs including the Room Mother Program and MPACT. Uniform Resale is available the entire school year during normal BIG BLUE operating hours. Donations to Uniform Resale may be dropped off at BIG BLUE, in the Lower School Uniform Resale Closet (located in the Lower School Lost and Found) or in the marked slot outside portable 6 throughout the school year.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES BIG BLUE carries school supplies. Most school supplies required in the US can be found in BIG BLUE. Additionally BIG BLUE will carry basic supplies throughout the school year including pens, pencils, pencil bags, paper, binders and more! Please note: BIG BLUE does NOT carry the required MS calculators.

SHOP BIG BLUE ON FRIDAY NIGHTS BIG BLUE is open 45 minutes prior to all home varsity football games and during halftime. If you need to update your TCA spirit gear, head over to BIG BLUE prior to the games. GO TROJANS!

THE BASICS TCA School Day n Lower School: Students are permitted to enter the classrooms at 8:05 a.m. Class begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 1:15 p.m. on Friday. n Middle School: Students are permitted to enter the buildings at 7:30 a.m. Classes begin at 8 a.m.

Grades 5–6 dismiss at 3:20 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 1:25 p.m. on Friday.

Grades 7–8 dismiss at 3:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 1:20 p.m. on Friday. n Upper School: Classes begin at 8 a.m. They end at 3:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 1:45 p.m. on Friday.

Before-School Supervision

Before-school supervision is available for Lower School students beginning at 7:30 a.m. Students should report to the Lower School Cafeteria. Before-school supervision for preK will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the early childhood activity room.

Before-school supervision is available for Middle School students in the Middle School Library beginning at 7 a.m.

This service is offered free of charge.

n Lower School: The After School Care program is available for all Lower School students who need to remain on campus after dismissal. ASC ends at 6 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 4 p.m. on Friday. n Middle School: The program is available for Middle School students who need to remain on campus beyond 3:45 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 1:45 p.m. on Friday. ASC ends at 6 p.m. Monday–Thursday and at 4 p.m. on Friday. n Activities: Lower School After School Care includes study hall time for firstthrough fourth-graders, games, activities and access to the playground for all preK through fourth-graders. The Middle School program utilizes the Middle School Library for study hall, computer time and board games. n Cost: Parents are charged $7.50 per hour. • Option A (LS Cafeteria – the preferred location) Enter at the US entrance on Addison Road. Head west in front of the US towards the baseball field. Follow the carpool flow around the baseball field and to the far west side of the US main parking lot and back around to the south side of the US/north side of the LS. Drop off students at the sidewalk by the curb that leads to the LS cafeteria and playground. Pull forward as far as possible.

Exit at Addison Road; police are on duty to assist turning north or south onto Addison Road.

• Option B (LS Lobby) Families with LS and MS students can drop off in front of the Lower School/Lower School Library Complex. Please pull forward as far as possible.

Exit onto Addison Road; drivers are required to turn south onto Addison Road. Please note: if a parent needs to enter a building between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m., please drop off; then park your car and walk in.

Students should be dropped off prior to 8 a.m. at either the south entrance to the MCB or the north entrance of the Middle School. Students arriving after 8 a.m. should check in at the Middle School Office.

LOWER SCHOOL PICK-UP

Students must be picked up with carpool number. Enter at the US entrance on Addison Road. Head west in front of the US towards the baseball field. Once you enter the US main parking lot, choose a lane for pick-up: row one - LS Cafeteria or row two - Art Wing.

Follow the carpool flow around the baseball field, to the far west side of the US main parking lot and to the south side of the US/north side of the LS. Students will be brought to your car at the curb along the north side of the LS or at the Art Wing.

• Row One - LS Cafeteria exits onto Addison Road; police are on duty to assist turning north or south.

• Row 2 - Art Wing exits onto Sojourn Drive.

n Regular Carpool - 3–3:20 p.m. (M–Th), 1:15–1:30 p.m. (F)

All students should plan to follow the regular carpool procedures unless they are waiting for older siblings, carpooling with a MS or US family or will be attending After School Care.

n Late Carpool - 3:20–3:30pm (M–Th), 1:30–1:40pm (F) LS students who have not been picked up through the carpool line by 3:30 p.m. (M–Th) or 1:40 p.m. (F) will be sent to After School Care. Regular After School Care rates will apply.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PICK-UP - 3:20–3:45 (M–Th), 1:30–1:40 (F) n 5th and 6th grade 5th/6th grade students are not permitted to pick up Lower School siblings.

Fifth-grade students should be picked up in front of the Lower School Library Complex.

When picking up, parents should pull forward to the front of the north entrance of the Middle School building. Please do not stop in front of the fifth-grade door if there is room to pull forward.

Sixth-grade students should be picked up in the lot located at the south entrance to the MCB. When picking up, parents should pull forward as far as possible.

Families with students in both fifth and sixth grade can pick up students in either the fifthgrade location or the sixth-grade location.

n 7th and 8th grade Students who choose the Athletic Development program in any given trimester will be picked up at the Athletic Training Center (ATC) between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. (M–Th).

Students who are participating on an athletic team will be picked up in the location communicated by the coach, usually between 4 and 4:20 p.m (M–Th).

On Fridays, all seventh- and eighth-grade students will be picked up at the lot located at the south entrance to the MCB between 1:30 and 1:40 p.m.

UPPER SCHOOL DROP-OFF - 7:30–8 a.m. (M–F) UPPER SCHOOL PICK-UP - 3:30–3:45 (M–Th), 1:45–2 (F) Locations n Option A: Head west in front of the US towards the baseball field. Make a U-turn

around the triangular island in the turn by the baseball field and head back east towards the US. There is a short drop-off zone along the curb by the US Main Entrance on the north side of the building. Exit the campus onto Addison Road.

n Option B: Follow the carpool flow around the baseball field and to the far west

side of our parking lots and back around to the south side of the US. Drop off and pick up students at the sidewalk by the curb which leads to the west entrance to the History/ English hallway. Exit the campus south by the Art Wing onto Sojourn or circle around the US by the LS playground and exit onto Addison Road.

LEAD is an initiative to build up, connect and facilitate engagement of the men in the TCA community through activities such as morning breakfasts, Bible studies/ equipping classes and other coordinated activities. The mission of LEAD is to promote and sustain a culture of discipleship among the men of TCA. In the 2016-17 school year, well over 125 dads were encouraged, equipped and spurred on to be effective husbands and fathers through the “Dads Class” facilitated

by Watermark Community Church in the fall semester and the “Quest Parenting” series facilitated by Pure Hope in the spring.

Dads were also provided opportunities to serve on campus, engage with school leadership, participate in the school’s athletic development and kick back at a Cowboys watch party and end-of-year celebration. Dads were also encouraged to organically form dad-daughter or dad-son small groups for the purpose of intentional monthly discipleship.

LEAD is young, but the mission is true, and dads are engaged.

PARENT-TEACHER FELLOWSHIP THE PARENT-TEACHER FELLOWSHIP (PTF) was

organized to enhance the relationship between TCA families and the school. Its membership includes every parent and teacher at TCA. The PTF officers and committee chairmen serve under the direction of the director of volunteer services, Camille Walker. Profits raised from uniform resale and the rebate program are used for the Teacher Emergency Fund, treats for teachers, Mini School Night receptions, as well as other activities.

The PTF coordinates the following programs and projects: The Room Mother Program is a volunteer

opportunity that benefits teachers, students and the entire school. Each year, over 100 room mothers coordinate mission projects, class parties, luncheons and many other activities. A coordinator for each grade oversees the room mothers and works closely with the PTF vice president throughout the year. PTF conducts a forum for current room mothers and a spring orientation for new incoming room mothers.

The MPACT prayer coordinators oversee

MPACT (Moms Praying and Coming Together), TCA’s prayer program. Under the guidance of the PTF president, they

are responsible for planning MPACT events, such as the prayer and praise times throughout the school year, and for assisting grade-level prayer coordinators.

The Wall of Prayer is a school-wide

ministry that covers every TCA student, teacher and staff member in daily prayer.

Parents who register with Wall of Prayer are given up to four names of students and teachers to pray for daily throughout the school year. All prayer partners use the same daily verse guide, which is located on the TCA website, to create a strong wall of protection and blessing around our students and our school.

Parents may register for Wall of Prayer on the TCA website or at Mini School Nights and will receive their prayer assignments via email in September. Wall of Prayer is a wonderful gift of daily service to our school.

Mini School Night Receptions are held

at each school’s Mini School Night in August and September. Come early for refreshments, to fellowship with TCA parents, to register for Wall of Prayer and the Booster Club and to hear about upcoming development events.

Hospitality volunteers serve our new

TCA families by answering questions and attending casual, grade-level gatherings planned throughout the summer to welcome new students and their families.

The Faculty and Staff Appreciation Luncheon honors TCA’s faculty and staff with a scrumptious buffet in elegantly decorated surroundings. Parents provide the many side dishes, decorate, set up and serve the food, as well as supervise the students at lunch and on the playgrounds on our employees’ favorite day of the year. To volunteer, visit the TCA website on September 6.

Rebate programs create an easy

partnership between TCA and Tom Thumb and Kroger. Simply by shopping for groceries or buying items through these businesses, a percentage of the dollar amount of your purchases will be refunded back to TCA.

Don’t we all want these things at the start of a new school year (and all throughout the year)? Jesus has invited us, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.” As our Good Shepherd, He knows our needs and is abundantly able to provide.

MPACT is simply Mothers Praying And Coming Together. Join us this

year as we come into God’s presence as a community. Praising Him lifts our souls and connects our hearts to His. Praying is closely connected with peace, as we lay our burdens at His feet.

Below are some of the school-wide programs, as well as opportunities for the Lower School, Middle School and Upper School specialty areas. Volunteers are needed to help prepare gently used uniform items for resale.

LOWER SCHOOL CAMPUS SHOWCASE

• November 12, 2017 Volunteers set up and serve refreshments as they greet our campus visitors.

LOWER SCHOOL GRANDPARENT DAYS

• November 16 and 17, 2017 Volunteers are needed to serve as ambassadors to our grandparents while on our campus. Opportunities include planning committee, pre-event set-up, registration, hospitality, tours, photos and breakdown.

LOWER SCHOOL DADS CLUB

The Lower School Dads Club is a chance for dads to be more visible on campus in a servant-leadership partnership. Some of the club’s activities will include helping with carpool, participating in recess, reading to the students and making delicious snow cones. All Lower School dads are welcome.

RECEPTIONIST/MAIN SWITCHBOARD LUNCH RELIEF

Volunteers will welcome and sign in visitors and answer phones for an hour during lunch time. Phone training is required. Time commitment is two or more times a month.

LOWER SCHOOL LIBRARY

Volunteers are needed once a week or every other week for two- to three-hour shifts. Opportunities for volunteers include checking books in and out, shelving books, processing books and helping with special events.

LOWER SCHOOL OFFICE

Involves greeting visitors, answering phones, organizing Lost & Found, making copies and delivering items to classrooms. Time commitment is two or more times a month.

MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARY

Volunteers are needed once a week or every other week for one- to three-hour shifts. Opportunities for volunteers include checking books in and out, shelving books, processing books and helping with special events. No experience needed!

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHOIR

Volunteers are needed to assist with chaperoning activities/trips and serving at receptions. Other opportunities include assisting with costumes, choreography and stage decorations.

7th & 8th GRADE BAND

Volunteers are needed to assist with chaperoning activities/trips. Other opportunities include designing concert programs and serving at receptions.

7th & 8th GRADE DRAMA

Volunteers are needed to assist with publicity, video taping, pictures, stage construction, props, chaperoning and clerical work.

UPPER SCHOOL LIBRARY

Duties involve shelving books, covering books, computer work or other tasks which may be easily learned. Time commitment is once or twice a month.

UPPER SCHOOL BAND

Volunteers are needed for chaperoning activities/trips and coordinating receptions and social events.

UPPER SCHOOL CHOIR

Volunteers are needed for stage decorations, clerical work, accompanying, chaperoning activities/trips and helping with the spring musical.

UPPER SCHOOL DRAMA, CHAPEL & SPRING PRODUCTIONS

Volunteers are needed to assist with costumes, props, furniture locating and/or transporting, hairstyling, make-up, art work, publicity, ticket sales, refreshments, set decorations and building or painting sets.

corner! Once again, the sophomore class is offering your class the opportunity to enjoy a tailgate party at a home football game. This is a wonderful time for families to socialize. This year, the tailgate parties will be spread out over three home varsity football games on Friday nights. All tailgate parties will be held on the outdoor covered Middle School basketball courts and the adjacent field at 6 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the tailgate will move into the MS Cafeteria.
