Shaped by Community How a recent alumna’s community involvement set her up to succeed on her postgrad path

When she crossed the stage this May, Jasmine Sudds ’26 had already secured a full-time position as a program assistant at Abston Therapeutics, where she’ll support psychotherapy initiatives focused on reducing recidivism. And she’s not just stopping there. Jasmine also plans to pursue a master’s degree in forensic anthropology, with the goal of becoming a boardcertified forensic anthropologist working in international law.

She’s already charted her future, and it was her time at Trinity University

that guided her toward this path.

An anthropology major from Los Angeles, Jasmine was drawn to Trinity by its tight-knit community, which gave her a sense of what her experience would be like even before arriving on campus. Combined with the opportunities offered through the anthropology department, Trinity felt like the right place to pursue her long-standing academic interests.

Yet, Trinity helped Jasmine grow just as much outside the classroom as within it. As a public relations officer for Trinity’s Black Student Union and

as a student employee in the Office of the Dean of Students, she built lasting connections while advocating for equity and strengthening campus communication, programming, and student support initiatives.

Jasmine’s time studying abroad and participating in the McNair Scholars Program strengthened her development as a researcher, anthropologist, and leader.

Researching homelessness and mental health disparities gave her the chance to apply academic work to realworld community impact. Meanwhile,

That’s why Trinity’s positive outcomes rate for the Class of 2025 is 98%, meaning 98% of graduates were either employed, in graduate school, or pursuing other postgraduate pathways six months after graduation.

Trinity’s urban location opened the door for her to volunteer in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. March and give back on San Antonio’s Eastside.

Chandler ’26

Drawn to Trinity University by its nationally competitive men’s soccer program, Luke Chandler ’26, a recently graduated neuroscience major and chemistry minor from Glasgow, Scotland, discovered a place where his passion for athletics and interest in the human brain could grow side by side.

Even before arriving on campus, Luke knew he wanted to study neuroscience, fascinated by the brain’s complexity. At Trinity, that curiosity deepened—particularly in understanding the mechanisms behind Alzheimer’s disease, which led him to the lab of Engineering Science Professor Dany Munoz-Pinto, Ph.D. While Luke was helping the Tigers win on the soccer pitch, he was also making discoveries in the lab studying ferroptosis in human astrocytes and neural stem cells. Getting to conduct research as an undergraduate “is what separates Trinity for me as an undergrad program,” Luke says. Thanks to a $5,000 Trinityfunded Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship and additional

travel funds, Luke even had the opportunity to present his research at an annual science meeting in San Francisco in February.

Balancing academics and varsity athletics can be a challenge, but Luke faced it head-on, accumulating both academic and athletic honors throughout his years at Trinity.

Just before stoppage time in his college journey, Luke’s resilience and excellence on and off the field scored him a $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, making him one of five Trinity students to receive this honor in the 2025-26 academic year.

Backed by this scholarship, Luke will attend University College London this fall to pursue a master’s degree in neuroscience, after which he hopes to pursue his Ph.D. He credits Trinity’s rigorous academics, competitive athletics, and handson research opportunities with preparing him for this next step.

His advice to future Tigers: “Take advantage of every opportunity— especially those outside your comfort zone. Some of the most meaningful growth happens through challenge.”

It All Adds Up

Recent alumna reflects on how faculty helped guide her academic path

If you told Grace Etzel ’26, on the first day of her first year at Trinity University, that she would graduate as a double major in economics and mathematics, she would not believe you.

Still, four years later, Grace is now preparing to move to Washington, D.C., where she will work as a research assistant in the Research and Statistics Division of the Federal Reserve Board’s Macroeconomic and Quantitative Studies section.

Math was never part of the plan for Grace since she’d been discouraged from the discipline from a young age.

Meanwhile, economics had always piqued her interest because she saw it as a way to address the complex social issues in the world today. Paired with a double major in political science, Grace thought she would achieve her dream of helping people after graduation by attending law school.

Yet after taking a few math classes at Trinity, her perspective began to shift.

“I loved the way math made me think.

It requires hours of logical thinking and is very applicable to most social science questions. I decided, though I struggled with it, to major in it because I really loved the challenge,” she says.

Throughout Grace’s college career, Trinity faculty helped her see past her self-doubts to the opportunities that studying both mathematics and economics could offer her. She credits Economics

Professor Nels Christiansen, Ph.D., the dean of the School of Social Sciences and Civic Engagement, with guiding her as she discovered her second major.

Dean Christiansen continued to help on Grace’s journey past her major declaration. After receiving multiple job offers, he sat with Grace to strategize which opportunity would be the best fit for her, which led her to choose the position at the Federal Reserve Board.

“The potential he saw in me was something I did not see in myself at that time. Without that influence, I probably would not be on this current path,” she says.
