Official Programme

Tring Athletic v Arlesey Town 3.00pm - Saturday 18th January 2020 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division

From the Top Good afternoon to you all, I hope the weather has changed with the rain and wind stopping allowing us to all stay dry. I would like to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Arlesey Towns to the Grass Roots Stadium. Its been a while since I last wrote notes for the programme so there are a few things that have happened since then. We have released a few players and brought some new ones in. Max Mitchell Phil Lowen and a few others have been released from the club and I want to thank them for all they did whilst at the club without their efforts along with the other players we would not be where we are right now. In non-league football there is always a high turnover in players for many different reasons but I will always remain grateful to the players that have played for the club. As you can see we have been able to bring Louie Collier back from Kings Langley for the rest of the season and I feel Louie has a big future in front of him. We have also signed Marcus Mealings from Marlow who has been a great signing for me and so far, Marcus has scored 10 goals in as many games and we are hoping that he keeps adding to that tally. Aaron Jewell has been brought into the squad due to injuries and suspensions and he brings us wealth of experience and so far he has hit the ground running with 3 goals (one being a worldie of an overhead volley) in as many games not bad for a centre back. You will also see we have started to bring through some young players as well and over the coming weeks you will see more of them on the pitch. The squad is really wanting to push on and with the help of you supporters I really feel the club can start to build on and off the pitch. I have to thank Howard Wells the club’s chairman for his support and efforts to make this possible for us all to be part of as well as the long serving helpers of the club. There is a vision for the future of Tring Athletic and I hope that you as loyal supporters are wanting to be part of this future. I have been lucky enough to have now made affiliation’s with MK Dons and Colchester Untied which will now see players from both clubs coming to Tring on loan, this is testament to Howard for his wealth of contacts and to the players themselves who have now made Tring a club that the professional ranks are now looking at to help with bringing the younger players through. In turn I hope this starts to attract more players from within the community as well as more people through the gate to join the growing Tring Army. There are many aims for the club on and off the pitch with the main aim for the myself and the squad being to take the club to the next level on the playing side. So far this season we have scored 83 goals in 30 games, conceded 27 goals and are pushing as hard as we can to achieve our start of season aims. I hope you all enjoy today’s game and thank you in advance for your continued loyal support. Keeping backing the players keep cheering them on and together let’s see where we can all go as with the backing of the Tring Army the future for the club could be very bright.

Match Report Sat 11th January 2020 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division

MATCH REPORT POTTON UNITED 2 TRING ATHLETIC 5

Against second placed Tring Athletic Potton introduced new signing James Smith and made an unbelievable start going two goals up in the first six minutes. The first came after just three minutes when a Tring defender tried to head the ball back to the keeper and this was intercepted by Eve who calmly shot home. Three minutes later Dowridge collected the ball and dribbled to the edge of the penalty area and his shot went low past the keeper. Score 2-0 At this stage Potton seemed in control but on a quick Tring breakaway Irish did extremely well to push a fierce shot from Dunstan onto the bar and too safety. Potton attacked with Williams shooting over and Andrews wide. Then the whole picture changed with Potton on the attack Tring made a quick counter attack in the 24 minute and played the ball to Mealing who fired home. Score 2-1. Williams played in a dangerous cross and then saw his shot pushed to safety by the keeper. In the 32nd minute another quick break by Tring with the Potton defence caught short allowed Dixon to score the equaliser. Score 2-2. Worse was to follow three minutes later when Dunstan eluded three tackles and sent the ball across for John to score from close range with Potton appealing for offside. Score 2-3. Tring were now controlling matters and had an appeal for penalty turned down. Irish saved well from Mealing before Williams shot over at the other end just before half-time. Half Time 2-3 Potton came out in the second half and an early shot from Dowridge was blocked at the expense of a corner. In the 52nd minute Tring had yet another breakaway goal after Potton had taken a corner the ball was played through to Collier who took the ball round Irish to put in the back of the net. Score 2-4. After a Potton free kick Williams shot over and then Eze was just wide with his effort. At the other end Dunstan headed over. In the 74th minute Tring increased their lead when from a corner Jevell headed home unchallenged from close range. Score 2-5. Williams fired over before Eze made a good run but shot high over the bar. In the closing minutes Jewell was again unchallenged from a corner and headed narrowly over. FT 2-5 In the end a disappointing result for Potton especially in view of the encouraging start. It seemed that when Potton were attacking that Tring looked extremely dangerous on the break.

Arlesey Town - History Arlesey Town Football Club celebrated their centenary in 1991, having been formed by a group of local people before the turn of the last century. Before the Second World War, Soccer was played on a localised basis, and in common with many clubs in the area, Arlesey competed in the flourishing Biggleswade & District League and entered the Biggleswade Knock-out Cup. During the 1920's, the club joined the Bedfordshire County League - which was later to become the South Midlands League. Arlesey originally played at 'The Bury' before moving to their former home, 'Lamb Meadow.' The ground took its name from 'The Lamb,' a former Public House situated near the site which, for many years acted as the club's headquarters and changing rooms. In November 2013 Rufus Brevett arrived to take the club forward. Although his 1st season was “steady” a very difficult season in 2014-15 saw several changes of management as results failed to materialise a Rufus gave way after Christmas to ex manager Nick Ironton but again this failed to halt the slide and he in turn gave way during the season as Zema Abbey came back with brother Nathan as joint managers, Although this led to an improvement in playing style but they were unable to prevent relegation in the end back to the Central Division. The new season saw us struggle to get to grips with the style of the new division and early form showed us propping up the division but a second half resurgence saw us push up the division to finish in a mid-table position. Last season saw us with most of last season’s players returning to try to prove their point that they somewhat under achieved in the previous season. Season 2017-18 proved a very difficult year with a season plagued by injuries and problems and indeed a terrible record of no league wins at home all season saw us unfortunately get relegated from the Southern league. This now presents a new challenge in the South Midlands league for this year and to that end a new management team of Matt Endersby and James Hatch were appointed during the close season and they have rebuilt the team and gathered together a whole new coaching staff. We look forward to the new season with a degree of confidence that was perhaps missing in the previous season. The new League started well with a good start although a cup run eluded us and things went reasonably well until the Christmas period when a series of injuries knocked results but things were slowly rebuilt leaving us an 8th place finish that left a feeling of under achievement that we look to address this year. A change in management as Matt Endersby left the club at the beginning of October the club appointed Chico Ramos in November to try to push the club forward again.
