Trilogy Moving Forward Welcome to 2026!!!!

A new year is here, and with it comes another chance for all of us to help shape our community. The Trilogy election process is officially underway, and candidate applications are due by 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

There are lots of ways to get involved—running for the Board of Directors, supporting a candidate, attending meet-andgreets, or simply casting your vote. This year, we’ll be electing three Board members, and we encourage everyone to get to know the candidates and decide who you’d like to help lead our community.

Our Board plays an important role in guiding Trilogy, and having a mix of backgrounds and perspectives really makes a difference. Not every decision will please everyone in the moment, but over time you should be able to see the reasoning and consistency behind the choices made to support the longterm success of our community.

Every vote truly matters, and your participation helps keep Trilogy strong. Thank you for being part of the process!

Hello everyone, At a recent Board Retreat, our Executive Director, Michele Ray-Brethower provided us with the following article. As new policies are currently being updated and/or created, I wanted to take this opportunity to share the article with all residents. I hope you will find this as helpful as I did.

Crafting Straightforward Policies for Community Association Boards is Essential for Smooth and Effective Governance

Reprinted in part from Common Ground September October 2025 edition Whether in a quiet suburban neighborhood, condominium or other type of community association, Boards are dedicated to maintain the charm and harmony of their shared slice of home.

One of the essential ways Boards can achieve this is through well-crafted policies and procedures for governing operations, decision making processes, rules enforcement, and financial management.

These guidelines are an important foundation of governance, ensuring the community functions smoothly and equitability.

Having policies in place, sticking to standardized protocols and processes consistently, and sharing them transparently with membership can hold everyone accountable as well as provide protection for the board and association.

Policies provide consistently, fairness, and clarity helping to manage expectations for members and the Board. Without

clear policies, disputes can become common, and could strain neighbor relationships. Well defined guidelines can help to protect property values by ensuring that everyone understands and follows agreed upon community wide standards.

The impact on the community can be significant. Thoughtful well written policies create a sense of order and predictability which are crucial for homeowner satisfaction and association effectiveness. Key elements of a policy include: Purpose. Clearly state why the policy is necessary and what it aims to achieve.

Scope. Define who the policy applies to and under what circumstances.

Procedures. Outline step-by-step processes for enforcement and appeals.

Consequences. Specify penalties or remedies for noncompliance.

Review Mechanisms. To remain relevant, indicate how and when the policy will be reviewed.

Implementing effective policies is a cornerstone of successful association governance. By considering the needs and perspective of the community, engaging in transparent communication, and ensuring compliance, association boards can foster a well management environment and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Happy New Year! New Year’s resolutions go back thousands of years, long before modern self-help culture. They began as religious promises tied to the idea of starting the year in the right relationship with the gods and the community.

she is currently working on trying to come out of her shell more in everyday life. She is an introvert and since her son started school she has had to participate in more parental interactions with him at school.

The earliest known precursors come from ancient Babylon around 4,000 years ago, where people made promises to their gods during a multi-day New Year festival called Akitu. Rather than pledging to exercise or diet, Babylonians vowed to pay debts and return borrowed goods so the gods would grant favor for the coming year. A common theme across ancient cultures was reaffirming duty: being faithful to oaths, supporting one’s city or ruler, and maintaining social order. These commitments often included promises related to fairness in trade, honesty, and keeping peace within families or communities, ref lecting a concern with justice and social harmony.

Dave Brown is serving more at his church and mentoring young men and gaining more of a work/life balance and reducing his work hours to a normal 40-hour week. If you see Dave and it is afterhours, ask him how he is doing on his resolution…

Romans formally set the new year on January 1 and linked it to Janus, the two-faced god of beginnings, encouraging vows of good conduct and renewal. Early Christians and later Puritans adapted the idea into year-end or New Year services focused on ref lecting on past sins and resolving to live more virtuously.

A major cluster of themes involved seeking prosperity and protection in exchange for proper behavior. People promised sacrifices, offerings, or better conduct so that deities would grant good harvests, victory in war, fertility, and protection from misfortune in the coming year.

By the 17th century, people were recording personal “resolutions” in diaries. In the early 1800s, newspapers in places like Boston were already using the phrase “New Year’s resolution” and joking about how often people failed to keep them.

Over the 19th and 20th centuries, the practice shifted from mainly religious or moral vows to more secular goals like health, money, and habits. Today’s resolutions are still built on the same old impulse: to mark the turning of the year with promises of a fresh start and self-improvement.

I decided to ask some staff that didn’t participate in my article in December on Christmas traditions to share their New Year’s resolutions. Terri Hagan said she is working to be persistent in dissolving old habits and behaviors and creating new positive practices; her overall goal is to improve her life and her outlook towards her health and future.

Sabrina Smith said she normally doesn’t make resolutions, but

Lori Larson from the Board gave up making New Year’s resolutions that had a good chance of failure in the first two months of the year. A couple of years ago she changed her focus and set a goal of trying a dozen new cocktails with friends and she exceeded expectations! This year she is making a more generic resolution and is focusing on trying 12 new fun activities over the course of the year. Liz Ridge is making a resolution that is community focused with her board role, and she is pledging to continue to learn, research and listen so she can do what is right for the community.

As for me, I do a word of the year and then try to come up with intentional ways to add that word into my daily life and year. I have done a word of the year since 2020 when my word was “connect” for the next year. We all know we wanted connections after the year of Covid. I have not decided on my word for this next year but am contemplating it, as it is a very intentional process, and I try to set myself up for success.

My word this year was “spark”, and with a plan to seek new adventures, experiences and new ventures with passion and reinvigorate myself with intention-I would say here I am at Trilogy on the ride of a lifetime; it is a challenging new experience. I went to Portugal, London and Beatles Week in Liverpool with a group of girlfriends, and that was an adventure. I also worked on fostering my creativity with art which I am continuing. I am proud to say I was successful in meeting my book reading goal, and if any of you like to read, and want Michele’s best reads of 2025, let me know, I would be happy to share!

If you set a resolution, select a word, or do nothing, I wish you absolutely the best for 2026, with great health, laughter and fun with your Trilogy friends. We have so much to be thankful for as this is a beautiful community with great people, and we need to enjoy our time here. As a group, for 2026, can we agree that each of us will focus on the positive and continue to improve every day in the way we live, work and play here in Trilogy.

Mary Ann Eddy-- Retiring from the San Tan Press Our wonderful photographer Mary Ann Eddy has retired from the San Tan Press after 17 years of being the lead photographer for our magazine.

She was raised in Bay Village, Ohio and enjoyed a very happy childhood with her parents Jim & Lauretta Dever and her older brother Jimmy. They all enjoyed boating on Lake Erie and having summer parties down in the boathouse with all their family and friends.

Mary Ann graduated from Mary Mount College in Boca Raton, Fl. in 1965 and married her husband Bob in 1969.

Together they raised three wonderful children, Michelle, Jeanette & Bob. (Yes, her son Bob is AZ Eddy AC who is also retired now.) In 2003, she and her husband Bob moved to Trilogy and a couple of months later Bob passed away suddenly.

After being a wife for 34 years, Mary Ann decided she needed to REINVENT herself as she called it. She was eager to see what she could do on her own. The opportunity presented itself in 2008 when Frankie Enfield asked her if she would like to help her with a new magazine a few residents were putting together. Frankie had seen her taking pictures and asked if she San Tan Press

“I’ve met so many wonderful Trilogy people through the years. While taking their pictures my go-to-word was SQUISHY together…” would be the photographer for the magazine. She said, “Well I can try” and the rest is history.

Mary Ann said: “I’ve met so many wonderful Trilogy people through the years. While taking their pictures my go-to-word was SQUISHY together with motioning with my hands so I could get everybody in the picture. Sometimes the 3rd picture came out being the best one to use and they would say Why didn’t you take that one 1st??? Good question, right?”

The Band of Angels “Trilogy’s Helping Hands”

Encore Presentation: Valley Fever Guest Speaker Candy Purdy Friday, January 30 12 to 2 pm Trilogy Cafe Light lunch, door prizes Free event RSVP on mytpr no later than January 25 Here’s how the Band of Angels is assisting Trilogy residents: Angel Contact Group Angel volunteers are available to provide Daily Check In phone call service; and will also make a friendly visit to check in with the residents. This group also helps residents in our community who have been ill, injured, or have experienced the loss of a loved one. Angel Contact Group volunteers provide the following types of contacts to Trilogy residents: mail a special hand-made get-well card to a resident experiencing an illness and an angel to a resident who has been seriously ill, injured, or has experienced the loss of a loved one.

A recent addition to the Angels’ services is the meal delivery program. This is a meal purchased by the Angels for a resident whose life has been suddenly affected by health or life change. Also, bowl cozies to safely warm food in the microwave will be available with or without food delivery. If you have a Trilogy friend or neighbor who you think would benefit from a home-delivered meal or any other angel contact, please call Monika Gilbert at 949-300-3961.

ART The Trilogy Art Club had a General Meeting on November 18. to vote on a new budget and other club business. Also, we socialized (met new members and welcomed back existing members). Susan Fox will be keeping the schedule for the Art Club classes, Barb Hoffman will be the writer for the San Tan Press, Jerry Pennington will keep the list for the display case and Joyce Cotton is the chair of the Art Show. The next General Meeting will be on February 3 for election of officers.

The Art Show will offer a wide variety of art pieces for sale. Mark your calendars for March 7 from 8 am until noon in the Grand Living Room and Catalina Room.

BOARDS & DECKS Happy New Year, Trilogy. The Boards and Decks Club has begun its new year and invites everyone to join us. Membership only costs $5 and members participate in our weekly games and have access to our gaming materials.

If you’re having family over for dinner you can go to the Clubhouse afterwards and play any number of games.

You can join by contacting the club treasurer, John Hewitt, at email address jj4ndi@gmail. com. He has the registration forms.

Lucky 13 is set for January 25. We play in the Catalina Room. We play ten games, so bring nine quarters and a single dollar bill. Players must be at least 18 years old. Play begins at 1:30 pm.

The Boards and Decks Club has started a game night on Saturdays in the Clubhouse at 6 pm.

BOCCE Happy New Year! January is always one of the Bocce Club’s busiest months. Morning rolling begins at 9 am. League play will begin again in mid-January. There are two tournaments this month: the Men’s Memorial Tournament on January 16-17, and the Women’s Memorial Tournament on January 30-31. These tournaments honor the Bocce Club members we have lost over the years.

Our Birthday/Anniversary Bash will be held on January 17 with donuts and coffee.

Tickets are on sale through Purple Pass for the Valentine’s Dance.

This is always a fun event for the whole community. It will be held on February 14 with Jamal as DJ. Get your tickets soon!

Bocce 101 on Wednesdays at 1:30 pm, is very popular this year, with several people new to the game learning the basics. Come to the courts and learn the game or hone your skills.

The Bridge Club is active year around, meeting in the Catalina Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays (Social from 12:30 - 3, contact Deb Heim at 701-269-1725) or Wednesday evenings (Duplicate from 6 - 9, contact Anne Stuckey at 262-424-0969). Duplicate bridge does require a partner. Judy Edinger (480-622-3324) is willing to find a partner for you.

Our year runs from January through December. There is a $5 charge to join the club. Registration forms may be found in the Catalina Room. They were also emailed to the 2025 membership.

BUNCO Bunco is a dice game that is easy to learn and fun to play. No yearly dues or membership is required. Everyone pays $5 each bunco night which goes into the winning payouts that night, so you aren’t really joining the Bunco Club. Everyone is welcome at any time.

Bunco Club generally plays on the last Monday of each month. If a holiday falls on the last Monday, bunco will be played on the prior Monday.

Check-in starts at 6 pm. Bunco starts at 6:30 in the Catalina (card) Room. The game ends at 8:45 or 9 pm.

COMPANY OF FRIENDS Company of Friends Veterans Day Celebration was truly exceptional.

It began with fabulous patriotic room decorations created by Linda Eliason and her team. Everyone was in a patriotic mood as raff le tickets were sold for a magnificent selection of baskets.

In addition, there was a silent auction for special items. A grateful thanks to Cathy Lasala, Gail Heil, Craig Hackensmith, and others who collected wonderful items and gift certificates for the baskets.

The attendees were treated to a presentation by three guests from Dogs4Vets including their devoted dogs. Due to the generosity of all, a record amount was raised for COF charity Dogs4Vets.

COOKING Hello, Trilogy. To avoid conf licts with New Year celebrations and travel, our next Community Breakfast is the second Saturday, January 10. We will be cooking and serving eggs, sausage, blueberry pancakes and buttermilk pancakes, as well as coffee, tea, orange juice and cran-apple juice. We also have a special for each breakfast.

Breakfast is served from 8 am to 9 am. The price is $8 cash; no tickets are required. Enjoy good food and say hello to your neighbors. We hope to see you there. Also, mark your calendars for the following breakfast on Saturday, February 7.

EUCHRE Happy New Year! Time to make your New Year’s resolution to play euchre. This will be an easy one to keep because you’ll want to come every week! Fun is on the agenda for 2026.

GENEALOGY The January meeting of the Genealogy Club will be January 15 in the Catalina Room at 9 am.

The speaker will be Suzanne Brayer whose presentation will be Is it time for a Paradigm Shift? New Strategies.

Why are you in that genealogy rut? You are sure that you have reviewed all possible resources. But maybe not. Perhaps that rut is of your own doing. The first step of the Genealogical Proof Standard states, “Reasonably Exhaustive Research.” This refers to all sources and methods. If you are unsuccessful, it may be time for a change in thinking – a paradigm shift. This presentation will discuss possible reasons you are in that rut and offer strategies, methods, sources and case studies which should pull you out of it.

Suzanne is an experienced lecturer with over 30 years of historical and genealogical research, and we always welcome her.

HIKING The Hiking Club has been busy with Tuesday and Friday hikes the season. Each week Hiking Club members explore different hiking trails throughout the Valley, making friends and experiencing nature up close.

Our Tuesday hikes are designed around various skill levels to allow hikers to enjoy their hike with others with similar skills. There are three hiking groups to select from including a Casual Group, a Basic Group and an Adventurous Group.

The Friday hikes are for those club members who want a challenge and who would like to tackle a longer hike with greater elevation.

We encourage anyone interested in hiking with the Hiking Club to come to the Clubhouse on Tuesday at 8 am. You can also find more information about the Hiking Club at trilogyhikers.com.

LADIES TLGA Our team of volunteers and members are busy planning the upcoming 2026 schedule. This month’s event is the annual Red and Blue Tournament for which half our membership competes against the other half resulting in a lot of playful bantering and good golf!

LINE DANCE DANCE, DANCE, DANCE! The Line Dance Club is proud to sponsor the first social club event of the year. Live music will be provided by Johnny Splash--he plays a variety of music for a variety of dances, from two step to waltz to any dance you want to do!

Tuesday class for intermediate dancers is at 1 pm in the Ballroom.

Wednesday class for beginners is at 1 pm in the San Tan Room (accessible on the golf course side of the clubhouse).

If you are trying us out, come on Wednesday at 12:40 to learn a few basic steps. Your first class is free. After that, you can purchase a $24 punch card before class for six lessons.

MAH JONGG We are pleased to announce that the Third Annual East Valley 55+ Community-Wide American Mah Jongg Tournament was a great success! The best news is that $1,215 was raised for the club!

A total of 52 players participated in the event, all of whom were divided amongst 13 tables. In addition to providing lunch, players played four rounds, each consisting of four games. The feedback on this event was overwhelmingly positive, and a similar setup is likely to be repeated next year.

A huge thank you to Geri Carolan, Cheryl LaRoche, Carol Hoffman, and Teresa McCarthy for all their efforts in planning and organizing the tournament, which started back in June. And many thanks to the club’s 13 volunteers, including spouses and family members, who generously donated their time before, during, and after the tournament.

PICKLEBALL The Pickleball Club is in full swing with open play, round robins, Just Dinkin’ Around play, skills and drills, an Intro to Pickleball class and our club socials.

When members get a birdie or chip-in on the course, they record it on either a paper birdie or paper chipmunk chip-in and place the marker on the branch representing the hole where the achievement occurred.

THE CLUBS OF TRILOGY AT POWER RANCH We are looking forward to our third annual fundraiser For the Love of the Game. It will be held on Friday, February 20. We are developing teams and practicing for the big event. We will be donating our earnings to purchase equipment ‘rehab steps’ for the Fitness Center.

QUILTERS Quilts made for a December sidewalk sale preview (pictured) what you may find at the annual Quilt Club Show and Sale on February 28 in the Trilogy Ballroom.

In addition to displaying quilts made by club members, we will be selling bed quilts, table runners, place mats, children’s clothing and items related to sewing and quilting (patterns, books, fabric, thread, and supplies). Money from such sales enabled the club to make an end-of-year monetary donation to St. Mary’s Food Bank.

On January 10, club member Marny Buck will teach a class on how to achieve an illusion of depth and transparency in a quilt top even though using opaque fabrics. For a small fee, Trilogy residents who are not in the club may enroll in the class.

To learn more about our activities, come to our club meeting on January 9 at 10 am in the Trilogy Cafe or stop by the Quilt Studio any Monday morning.

On January 5 we will be hosting our highly anticipated Spring Concert Celebration for Singers Club members. Information regarding our spring concert, to be held April 11, including the program and ticket information, will be shared as the date approaches.

In preparation for the spring season, regular rehearsals will resume in the coming weeks. We also welcome new members to join us—no previous experience necessary, just a love of singing and community.

STAINED GLASS The club is busy with many activities for members. New studio equipment was delivered in early fall and is being enjoyed by all.

An introductory training class for new members was completed in November.

Another class will be offered January 12-23. The classes are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-5 pm. This training will allow snowbirds to become more involved before leaving for the summer. If interested, please contact Nancy Dyer at 207 4580820.

SCRAPBOOK The Scrapbook Club invites all paper crafters and those interested in learning about our hobby to join us at our weekly gatherings.

Come and go at any time during the day, Wednesday starting at 9 am and Thursdays after 6 pm.

Working on projects in a communal environment encourages creativity, motivates members to try new techniques, and facilitates making new friends.

An advantage of membership is having access to all the club’s supplies. Supplies include paper trimmers, many stamp sets, dies, die cut machines including an older Cricut with many cartridges, embossing folders, inks, and punches plus a variety of card stock and pattern paper and assorted embellishments and stickers for members to use when creating a card or scrapbook page. Just bring your own scissors and adhesives.

Stop by our Scrapbook Room any Wednesday morning after 9:15 for more information. If you’re new to card making, we’ll teach you how easy it is to make a card.

As we look forward to the new year, let’s start by getting three of our most popular Tennis Club sponsored events on your calendar. We kick off the new year with the hugely popular East Valley Pops Concert on February 7.

This concert raises money for supporting instrument purchases for students in the East Valley.

On February 28, the Tennis Club has our annual Hot Dog Fundraiser in conjunction with the Car and Quilt Show.

Finally, on March 21 what was formerly known as the Doo-Wop dance will have a new name, and a refreshed look this year.

TRAVEL Welcome to 2026! Is this going to be a year filled with fun and adventurous travel? The Trilogy Travel Club hopes so and wishes you many wonderful experiences.

The next meeting of the Travel Club will be on Thursday, February 12, at 4 pm in the Catalina Room. All Trilogy residents are welcome, and there is no dues requirement to attend. Refreshments will be served. Come and meet your fellow Trilogy travelers and share travel information.

We will discuss 2026 Travel Club trips, including a May land tour from London to Paris visiting World War I and II historic battlefields and other sites, and a September land tour to Mackinac Island and Niagara Falls.

We will also talk about other destinations that residents would like to explore and trips arising from those discussions.

CHAVURAH The Chavurah is a group of residents who share, learn, celebrate, and enjoy Jewish life together. Our group meets on the second Saturday of each month from September through May. Our next meeting will be Saturday, January 10 at 10 am in the Catalina Room.

There are two dining-out groups: Romeo’s (retired old men eating out) and Juliet’s, a men’s and women’s group that meet separately and enjoy dining out monthly. The next Romeo’s get-together will be on Thursday, January 8 at 5:30 pm. The venue will be announced shortly.

DEMS & FRIENDS The DEMS & FRIENDS group has been very active this fall and winter making certain that the goals of the group to be 1) informed; 2) energized; and 3) enriched have all been met.

As philanthropy and compassion are also important aspects of Dems & Friends, we recently participated in two major efforts to help those in need including raising monetary donations for Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank and supporting a local group who is supplying winter clothing to Ukrainian refugees. From the organize, “Thanks to your generosity and dedication, we received an astounding 38 boxes along with over $500 in donations to help cover shipping and logistics. Your commitment to human rights and compassion for those affected by conf lict is truly inspiring.”

REPUBS AND FRIENDS The Repubs and Friends mission statement is quite simple: We are a group of conservative, pro-America, civic-minded, mature adults that believe in the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution.\ We meet every eight weeks to disseminate information that addresses local and national political issues, utilizing the availability of local and national speakers and member input.

WINE & DINE Curious about Wine and Dine? We are a friendly, social group. We get together once a month in small groups at each other’s homes, typically six to eight6 people per home. The Host home provides the entree, side dish, coffee, water and dinnerware.

The guests bring one of the following: an appetizer, salad or dessert. Each month, the Host home changes, as do the guests at each home.

HORSESHOERS Our fall and winter days and hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 9 am.

The horseshoe area is open 24/7. Horseshoes are available on-site.

So, come out and fellowship while enjoying the game.

d n e ss Ran d om Acts of Kin Part II Gifts of Kindness from Family, A Stranger and Neighbors Memorial weekend 2022 we decided to move near our family. Our daughter and son-in-law offered to search the area for us. We viewed two videos then decided on a home in Trilogy. We were unfamiliar with a gated community, its location, size, amenities, and HOA. It was a daunting task! What to take, what to leave behind. Where to begin? From mid-June on we were never alone. One, two or more family members were with us to help with our downsizing effort.

Our leaving date was set for July 26th. On that day, four of us left for the airport, with our daughter accompanying us on our flight. While waiting at the departure gate, our son-in-law arrived from Arizona. He and our son headed back to finish packing for a few more days, load all the boxes, and some essentials on a U Haul truck and leave for a cross-country adventure trip.

On my birthday my two daughters took me to an Aveda Salon. During my hair cut I mentioned to the stylist it was my birthday. When we went to pay, I was told my bill was paid by a customer who overheard us. I was overwhelmed by his kind, generous gift. It would be wonderful now if by chance, he could hear how grateful and memorable his kindness added to the joy on my birthday.

After we moved into our home, meeting and getting to know neighbors we found we had a lot in common. A year later I subscribed to a daily newspaper which was left in my driveway. One neighbor, who walked by early in the morning, took the initiative for nearly two years to bring it to my door. I so appreciated his kindness.

In the spring of 2023, after a cold winter while our old home in New York was still on the market, our thoughtful and kind neighbor there, on her own, decided to trim and weed an area by our driveway entrance filled with daylilies and rose bushes to give the impression we still lived there.

Soon after we had a buyer and the house was sold.

Over the last several years I would hand out $10 Gift Cards to Starbucks to any fireman, police, military individual I would see being out and about.

If I was having breakfast/lunch somewhere and the above individuals would be eating also I would pick up the table tab, and walk out quietly.

I soon found these business card style notes that would indicate a hug or emotional support on it with some sort of charm glued to it and would randomly hand them out to young and old individuals to bring a smile to their face.

Last February 14th I had Valentine cards with hugs and support and there was an elderly gentleman sitting in a chair at the casino not playing but looking like something was off. I went over and gave him a card for emotional support and he read it, got up, and gave me the biggest smile and hug.

I love helping people by opening doors for them, picking up something that dropped or even getting a can of vegetables for someone who it was out of their reach.

If I can help, I’ll do it even by giving money to those that stand at a highway asking for donations. I feel it is their choice if they are panhandling when they could be working and they have to live with themselves and will need to explain to a much higher up in their defense.

Trilogy’s Best Foot Forward – Meet our Gate Greeters!

We all have a “welcoming ideal” – that feeling of strolling up a walkway where you just know you can “make yourself at home.” That’s exactly what Trilogy’s front gate aims to do: deliver a friendly hello with a dash of humor and helping hands. Lucky for us, two of the folks behind that welcome are masters of the art — Richard Ardito, a seasoned pro with a New York twinkle, and Steve Mancuso, a New Jersey/Pennsylvania transplant with a smile as wide as the fairway. Let’s open the gate!

Richard Ardito is as New York as the Brooklyn Bridge. Born in the city and raised on Long Island (“We had a little bungalow with no heat – just a kerosene heater!”), Richard joined the Air Force in 1964. He served, and rose to the rank of Sargent, in the 819th Red Horse Unit which deployed to Vietnam.

Arriving back home, he joined law enforcement, walking the beat and Richard Ardito protecting citizens for 26 years before retiring — only to spend another 14 years in hospital security. “I couldn’t hang up the badge completely,” he says.

Richard and his wife Mireille — married 59 years, which he jokes means “time to get a new model!” — eventually made their way west to Queen Creek, AZ to be near their sons and grandchildren. “One of my sons retired from the NYPD, and the other works for the Sheriff ’s Department,” he says proudly.

With a grandson at ASU and a 13-year-old granddaughter, Olivia, Richard’s got plenty to smile about.

Then there’s Steve Mancuso — part Jersey, part Pennsylvania, and all personality. His grin’s as mischievous as “Phoenix,” his German Shepherd’s, and his voice carries that unmistakable East Coast warmth. After years as a Power and Controls Technician (“Anything with electricity and machinery was my thing”), Steve and his wife Karen made Trilogy their home thanks to a family pull. The couple’s older son, father of their college student granddaughter and sports jock grandson, are still 40 JANUARY 2026

in Pennsylvania. “But our other son got a transfer to Arizona,” Steve recalls.

“We started visiting twice a year, liked it, and next thing you know — we bought a house online!

We’d never even seen it!”

Their eventual crosscountry move in 2020 was equally wild. “We left Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. and got here Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

2,500 miles! No one else was on the road because of COVID!” So, how’d they both end up as Gate Greeters?

Steve Mancuso Richard laughs. “I was working part-time as a custodian when someone told me about this job. I met Carol and Gina Montoya, and they hired me on the spot. I came in Friday, started Monday!” Steve jumps in, mock-offended: “They hired you on the spot? I had to go for a drug test!”

Steve’s route to the gate came later. “After a year of bingewatching TV and driving every direction just to get to know the area, I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll work a couple days a month.’

Richard had said, ‘I’ll train you!’ So, anything I do wrong is his fault!”

Before long, I was laughing right along with them — the kind of laughter that says these two don’t just share a gatehouse; they share a friendship. But as Steve quickly corrected me, “Don’t ever say ‘guards.’ We’re Gate Greeters. The one time I said ‘Guardhouse,’ I got scolded! But yeah, we keep the riffraff out — you know what I mean?”

Their mornings start early — 4:30 a.m. — with rounds through the Fitness Center, Clubhouse complex, Pool, Café, and Ballroom. They f lip on lights, music, fireplaces, and TVs; check kitchens for gas leaks; and make sure nothing’s out of place. If something is, they file a work order for Facilities. “It’s a lot of walking before the first coffee kicks in,” Steve grins.

The Gate Greeters jobs encompass a variety of activities — checking streetlights, unlocking pickleball and tennis courts, and, of course, frequent “set-ups” for community events in our active neighborhood. This involves readying and then disassembling any room used with whatever equipment is reserved - tables, chairs, serving areas, etc. “Bingo alone takes three hours,” Steve laughs. “You think you’re done, then you remember you’ve still got your rounds. People walk into these rooms or drive onto the property and it’s all ready to go, “They think it happens ‘by magic’!”

homeowner thought he got double charged for stone. “I had the same yard guy,” Steve says. “We sorted it out, but not before a few gray hairs appeared!” And then there’s the woman who once dropped off beer samples. “She gave me two cans to try. Don’t worry — I didn’t drink ‘em on duty!”

Then there’s the front gate — where every morning brings its own circus. “Golfers show up before 6 a.m. wanting to be first on the course,” Steve says. Richard adds, “Or someone hits the gate arm cause they can’t wait. Luckily, the arms are now breakaway, but you should hear the cursing!” There are drivers trying to sneak in two at a time, others waving phones in faces because they can’t speak English, and even one guy who claimed he was going to the Golf Course but veered off to do roofing instead. “I caught him the next day!” Richard chuckles.

When asked what they love most about the job, both light up. “The convenience,” Steve says. “I can walk to work. And I like talking with people. Some are grumpy — I get it. I just don’t take it personal.” Richard agrees. “It’s the people — and the guys I work with. We help each other out. Like the time I locked my keys inside the gatehouse, which meant I also couldn’t get into my house. Had to call Steve at 4:45 a.m. When he answered I just asked him, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’”

Through it all, what shines brightest is their kindness. The way in which Richard and Steve, and all their colleagues on

Richard enthuses that some residents show their appreciation with food — breakfast sandwiches, tamales, “even a whole ham.” “One lady brought a full meal — I think that one was for you, Richard!” Steve teases.

On their off-hours, Richard heads for water — any place to fish or tend his garden of strawberries and tomatoes. Steve hits the shooting range or the golf course (“Wish I was better!”), plays poker on Fridays, and occasionally stops at Slate’s for “just one — maybe two.”

Both are dog lovers. Steve and Karen’s German Shepherd, Phoenix, became a local celebrity during the Christmas Golf Cart Parade.

“People were yelling, ‘Phoenix!’ Karen asked, ‘Who’s that?’ I said, ‘No idea — but they sure know him!’” Richard’s eyes soften. “We lost our 18-year-old dog, Oreo, last June,” he says, showing his phone’s wallpaper. “Now we’ve got a rescue Malti-poo named Quincy.”

the Gate staff, handle their duties have endeared them to our Trilogy community. Their warmth and attention to detail help them make the transition from assisting guests and fellow residents to becoming friends.

Of course, there’s no shortage of funny moments, either. The resident who continually called Steve, “Dave” (as in Dave Hirsch, another long-time gate greeter) until the resident finally one day noticed Steve’s name on his shirt. “I told him I’ve been called worse!” Or the landscaper mix-up where a

As our chat wound down, I asked what their superhero names would be. Richard didn’t miss a beat: “The Silver Fox.” Steve chuckled. “Just call me ‘Dave’.”

We ended our chat as we began — laughing together. And that’s the real magic of our Gate Greeters: they make everyone feel at home before they’ve even stepped inside ~

I have this dream, of a fairy tale house, filled with family and friends. I dream of gardens and fruit trees to feed us. I dream of children filling the halls with laughter and mischief. Please, build this home that we may live happily ever after.

We can make this a dream home again; I envision a Bed and Breakfast happening in this sumptuous kitchen and cozy bedrooms. We can have weddings in the hall, in the garden areas and by the pools. We can have wandering paths for morning and evening walks. Let’s buy this house, it will be a lot of work, but we can do it, rebuild it, and bring it to life again.

a replica of “The Swing” by Fragonard, which was covered with another painting, now carefully restored. Overhead there are stained glass figures, capturing Romeo and Juliet. At each side there is a Romeo and Juliet balcony, with a glimpse into the bedrooms beyond. There is an endearing story that accompanies these balconies about a father’s love and concern for his daughter, listen to it.

The kitchen, the heart of the home, stands ready to host guests, and if you peek below the granite countertop, there is a carved story of kitchen staff, bustling with purpose as they prepare culinary delights.

If walls had proverbial ears — and I believe, surely, some can — the Chateau de Vie in Chandler, Arizona, would have much to tell. Over decades, its stone halls and stained-glass windows have heard joy and love, plans and promises, even a few whispered secrets.

It was 1984, Phil and Billie Lee Erickson had a dream…to build a house that was big enough to have all of their friends and even new ones join them… a Gathering Place for all. Their motto was simple and welcoming, “If the front gates are open, all are welcome to enter.”

In the adjacent eating area, a hexagonal room warms with the light of its pounded copper tin ceiling from our Arizona Copper mines.

Through the other kitchen door is the formal dining area with a huge lion footed table where place settings of china and silver await dinner guests. This room boasts Phil and Billie Lee’s original furniture, retrieved from a foreclosure sale by the kindness of those who purchased these items, now restored to their original place.

It would have a huge kitchen and plenty of places to sleep…it was to be a fairy tale castle. Since Phil owned a construction business, he had access to craftsmen and artists who could help him design and build a testament to the love of his life…Billie Lee. They purchased 10.4 acres of land in Chandler, and the dream began, plans were drawn and approved, beam by beam, stone by stone, window by window, it came to life.

On the other side of the kitchen is the entrance to the Gathering Room, a soaring barrel vault ceiling anchored by a white stone fireplace. Cozy and grand simultaneously it hums with the memory of parties of the past and those to come, witnessed by the fireplace carved musicians, children and dogs dancing, frozen in time. Etched on the glass to the left of the fireplace is Bill Lee’s and Phil’s Coat of Arms.

Step through the glass doors of this Tudor home, into the entry hall with a huge winding stairway and be welcomed by

to a movie studio of, ahem, questionable taste and morals.

I am so thankful that in 2010 Shelly and Nick Goodman took possession of the home and all the work that encompassed refurbishing this castle and opening it to the public; it is an astronomical financial feat to be sure. The Goodmans, in a generous gesture, invited the Ericksons to visit and share their memories of the home, hosting Phil’s Celebration of Life, held in the great hall; he had come full circle.

You are invited to peruse the 15,000 sq. ft. home and I shall tell you, every room has its own story, for you to discover on your own. It is written in the murals, the etched and stained glass, and the wood carvings. I’ve only shared the secrets of the first f loor, a teaser if you will, the second and third are just as richly captivating with lots of stories to tell. high tops and lots of seating for friends, even a player piano to entertain everyone. A curved bar is located at the far end of the room, and the carvings above tell a tale as well. Be sure to exit out the saloon doors for the full experience!

Wooden ceilings, fabric draped ceilings, the curved oak ceilings, mermaid corbels and speakers everywhere all lend personality and magic. There are secret hidden bookcases and walls, because what’s a castle without mystery? And yes, they do not fail us, there is a dungeon!

The grounds are splendid, with special attention to the water ways that use the Chandler canal water and repump it to water the vegetation. In the backyard there are glistening pools with carved statues of the Four Seasons, bridges that span the waters, wooden boxes awaiting new Lavender Plants. When I was there Canadian Black Geese were trumpeting arrivals and departures of themselves and visiting guests, as though we were being announced as the Royal Family! Made me laugh with delight.

I checked out the history of this home, you know I did, and with every home it has a history of good and not so great owners, from thieves who ransacked the home for copper plumbing and broke the plaster seeking a legend of money hidden in the walls

The Goodman’s open the house every weekend for tours, and frequently for special events such as a 1920’s style Clue party, where the docents infiltrated the guests until someone screamed the inevitable…” There’s been a murder! Oh no!!

Who? When? What was the murder weapon?” For Halloween it was transformed to become Chateau de Mort, poor Marie Antionette was beheaded each evening, such a sad cruel fate! At Thanksgiving they host foster children for a day of food feasting and fun. When I visited, they were decorated beautifully for Christmas with 8 trees and all the trappings. Come share with me your experience and favorite space after your visit.

Since my husband’s health issues last spring, I have become more aware of accessibility. There is ample handicapped parking, and they can make accommodations for those in wheelchairs to visit the first f loor only, there is no elevator.

The Alphabet Soup of Blood Tests Candy Purdy

While enjoying lunch with friends last week one of the ladies mentioned she would have to leave us a little early today because she had to keep an appointment for some lab tests her doctor ordered prior to her yearly physical exam. When asked which tests she was getting she replied, “Oh the usual Bump test.” We all looked puzzled. “What test is that?” I asked. She pulled out her orders from her purse and at the top it stated “BMP.” “Oh! Those letters stand for Basic Metabolic Panel-a blood test” I said smiling. Then everybody laughed as we imagined all sorts of things a “Bump Test” might have been.

All the things that can be learned from a small amount of blood are truly amazing. The results of a BMP can help physicians keep watch on the function of many of your vital organs, your diet, your water intake, the possibility of lots of chronic disorders and more. Sometimes you can get the results of these tests sent to you through a portal to your doctor’s office on the computer. If not, ask for a paper copy. Now, do they mean anything to you?

Often, they look like “alphabet soup” and you don’t know how to interpret them. Let’s try to put them in “layman’s language” in case you have a long wait for the next appointment when someone will explain them to you.

Why Are Blood Tests Ordered?

One common reason is to diagnose or rule out a specific disease for which you have symptoms. Results of these tests often come back Positive (they found what they were looking for), Negative (they did not find it), or Inconclusive. Screening blood tests check for disease in people who don’t have symptoms but might have been exposed to a disease like Covid 19. Some blood tests are ordered to determine if you are at a high risk for developing a disease. Still others help your doctor plan, monitor or check the progress of treatment.

Orders Prior to a Blood Test Fasting before a blood test means that for a specific time, usually 8-12 hours before a test, you should not: 1) eat, 2) drink anything but water, 3) smoke, 4) chew gum, or 5) exercise. It is wise to schedule a fasting blood test in the morning. Some tests also require that you not have alcohol for a certain time before your test. If you take medications, ask your doctor if you are allowed to take them before the test. Any of these activities can alter the results of your test. Fasting if you don’t need to can also alter your test results so be certain to ask for directions. If you don’t follow orders, they will reschedule the test because results will be inaccurate.

Basic Metabolic Panel BMP (Chem 7) The “Bump” test refers to a panel of tests that measures eight different values in your blood. It provides information on 44 JANUARY 2026

your metabolism - how your body is transforming food into energy. It’s often the first one ordered in an emergency room on television medical programs and in real life. BMP Panels are especially useful if you have a chronic illness or general symptoms like fatigue, vomiting, high blood pressure or you are on a new medication that can affect your organs. Your doctor may or may not want you to fast before this test. Specific tests in this panel may include the ones listed below. A few interpretations of high and low scores are mentioned but there can be many more.

• Glucose- This test is about blood sugar and normal is between 74-99 mg/dL. When it is too low it may suggest hypoglycemia, and when it inches too high, a sign of diabetes or a need to curb your “sweet tooth.”

• Calcium- is essential for keeping nerves, muscles and heart healthy and is stored in your bones. A calcium level that is out of range may indicate a problem with the parathyroid glands, a deficient diet, or may cause a heart problem.

• BUN-Blood Urea Nitrogen is a measure of a waste product formed in the liver and removed by the kidneys. If this level is high the doctor may have concern for your kidney filtration rate or your hydration.

• Creatinine-is also a waste product that comes from digesting protein and the normal breakdown of muscle tissue. Your kidneys filter it and remove it from blood. When this value is high it might indicate the kidneys are not performing their job as well as they should.

• Sodium-from the food you eat helps cells maintain proper f luid balance and is regulated by your kidneys. When this number is out of range it might be a cause of swelling in your legs or a heart concern.

• Potassium-is important for your nerve and muscle function including your heart. Improper levels of potassium can affect your heart rhythm, cause fatigue, muscle weakness, or numbness and tingling.

• Chloride-helps your body maintain f luid balance.

• Bicarbonate-/Carbon dioxide- (pH) indicates the acid base balance in blood. Normal range is 7.35-7.45. If the pH is too High (alkalosis) symptoms may include confusion, muscle spasms, irregular heart, or coma. When pH is too low (acidosis) it may produce symptoms including rapid and deep breathing, lethargy or shock.

Complete Blood Count (CBC) This test is looking at the actual cells and structures in your blood. These cells, produced in the bone marrow, should appear in certain numbers or ratios. This article will touch on a few but not all types of cells. The chart in this article will give some idea of what the range of “normal” amounts of each cell type should be.

Red Blood Cells (erythrocytes) These little work horses carry oxygen to all the cells in your body using their hemoglobin (the chemical inside the red cells) to capture oxygen in the lungs and exchange it for carbon dioxide in the tissues and organs. Normal ranges may differ in different labs and if the patient is taking estrogen or testosterone.

Hemoglobin- An abnormal score may indicate anemia, iron deficiency, blood loss, dehydration or disease.

Hematocrit-(Hct) is a test that measures the percentage of red blood cells in a person’s blood volume compared to plasma (the liquid component of blood). Smoking, living at high altitude, and some diseases can cause abnormal scores. A low level might indicate Anemia.

Types of White Blood Cells. (Leukocytes) These cells are your defenders against infection and disease. There are a lot of different types.

• White Blood Cell (WBC) Count –is the total number of all types of white cells. High levels indicate infection or inf lammation while low scores indicate a weakened immune system.

• Neutrophils- These are the soldiers that directly attack invading microorganisms like bacteria and fungi and set up an inf lammatory response. A low amount happens when there is decreased production. A temporary higher amount could indicate you are fighting an infection. A continued high count might suggest stress, an autoimmune disorder, the use of corticosteroids, a chronic form of cancer or other disorders.

• Lymphocytes-These immune system cells come in two types, T cells and B cells. T cells directly attack and kill infected or tumor cells. B cells make antibodies which are proteins that target specific viruses, bacteria and other foreign invaders (antigens). For example, if you were vaccinated for measles or caught the measles, your B cells met and remembered that virus. They prepared a response to kill it the next time it is encountered. • Eosinophils. If you have allergies, you have a lot of these white cells because they are involved in producing symptoms associated with asthma and hay fever like narrowing airways and increasing nasal mucus. These cells also respond to parasitic infections. A normal score on a blood test is less

than 500 or .05 k/mcL. Since they swarm to an inf lamed area. A high level in the blood may signal you are having an inf lammatory allergic reaction to something.

Platelets - Like a sailor rushing to a hole in the hull of a ship to plug it, platelets play a crucial role in stopping bleeding. They aren’t even cells-just transparent pieces of cell fragments waiting for a breach in a vessel wall. Then they send a chemical signal to attract more platelets to form a clot and stop the bleeding.

Without them, even small cuts would be life threatening and surgery would be impossible. Normal amounts are just 150 to 400 k/mcl.

Lipid Panel These tests measure three types of cholesterol (lipoproteins) in your blood. Then they compute your total cholesterol which should be under 200. This is usually a fasting test.

• HDL Cholesterol is the “Good” cholesterol that helps remove plaque “bad cholesterol” from inside your arteries and carries it to the liver to be broken down and eliminated from the body. You want this number to be above 60 or higher. It can be increased through exercise.

• LDL Cholesterol is the “Bad” cholesterol that can build up on the inside of your arteries and lead to atherosclerosis. It increases your risk for heart disease and stroke, so you want this score to stay low, below 100.

• Triglycerides are managed by the liver so elevated triglycerides can indicate liver damage or fatty liver disease. They can be manufactured by the liver from fats and excess carbohydrates in your diet. Normal triglyceride levels are below 150 mg/ dl. High levels can increase the risk of heart disease and pancreatitis but may be lowered through diet, exercise and weight management as can all the lipoproteins. Foods high in triglycerides include sugary bakery goods, beverages, alcohol, red meat, fried foods and snacks like potato chips.

Miscellaneous Tests The number of blood tests that can be ordered would fill many pages. Here are a few more and why they might be ordered.

• C-reactive protein- is released by the liver in response to inf lammation. This test can monitor how well a medication is working or how serious an infection you may be fighting.

• Coagulation test- measures how quickly your blood clots. It is sometimes ordered before surgery.

• Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)-contains all the tests in a BMP plus seven more: Albumin, total protein, total bilirubin, and more liver enzymes.

• Cardiac Biomarkers-a test for heart enzymes (CK, troponin, and MB) that appear in blood when the heart has been damaged by a heart attack or other heart condition • A1C-measures the average blood sugar over the past 2 or 3 months to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes.

• Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)- measures kidney function.

How often should you have your blood tested? As often as your doctor suggests, it really depends on how you are feeling and what health challenges or symptoms you are experiencing.

Now what? A Forest Bath!

In years past, I would take the time to carefully compile a precise and thoughtful list of New Year’s Resolutions.

Of course, this was years ago, and the entire list was intended to make me a better person – more accomplished, more creative, more organized, healthier, etc. As I said, this was years ago, many years ago. As a result of a few tough years recently, my New Year’s focus is on my well-being, specifically peace of mind, contentment, and compassion for myself. This should be a natural path for all of us. Still, in today’s world, we often get caught up in the stresses of the moment, and all our intended self-care seems to disappear like a sunny day in monsoon season. That said, our focus should be on specific ways to manifest peace of mind. So, let’s talk about ‘Forest Bathing’.

Yes, you read that right, but the image it brings to mind isn’t what this is about. Forest Bathing is simply engaging in nature. Forest Bathing, or “Shinrin-yoku,” is a Japanese practice of immersing oneself in nature to reduce stress and enhance well-being through exposure to nature. Strolling and observing all that nature has to offer can change your life. You can even teach your fur-babies how to forest bathe by encouraging them to slow down and just stay in nature.

Domestic dogs and many cats can and do “forest bathe” with their owners by stopping to engage their senses in a forest environment, a practice that can be adapted from their natural behaviors, such as sniffing, exploring, and sometimes rolling in vegetation.

You can forest bathe anywhere with trees, such as the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch and other local parks.

The ultimate place to forest bathe is definitely the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. But our own little community offers multiple greenbelts with benches, trees, and greenery, perfect for a nature escape. But don’t just sit and look; touch, smell, breathe, and truly appreciate what nature has created.

Immerse yourself, and you will be surprised at how much better you feel. If life has you down, take a forest bath, and I promise you will feel better immediately.

The Foundation donated $44,000 in 2025, including support for the two Clubhouse coffee bars to enhance the lives of seniors in the SE valley. The Board is currently working on setting up a giving plan for 2026. In addition, the Foundation Board is interviewing candidates for positions on the Board this month. If the idea of helping others in your community appeals to you, please consider contacting Miriam Sluder (Miriam_Sluder@ yahoo.com) to volunteer. Working with the Foundation is extremely rewarding, and we would encourage anyone looking to help improve the quality of life in the Southeast Valley to check out the areas you might consider helping with. Tranquility Garden Remembrance Service: The annual remembrance was well attended despite the threatening weather.

Many of the guests perused the sculpture for the names of their loved ones and/or friends. Candace Dietz, representing the Dakota group, spoke about their support of the Tree of Life project. The tree sculpture was designed and placed in the garden to recognize friends and loved ones. There are approximately sixty-two engraved leaves on the tree. Leaves are still available for purchase.

Update on Foundation Programs and Events: Fall Wine Tasting Event: The Foundation’s annual fall wine tasting event on November 3 at Slate was sold out. Participants in the event tasted five different wines paired with five separate small courses. All profits from this and every event sponsored by the TPR Foundation are used to support senior citizens in the Southeast Valley. The 50/50 Raff le of $530 was won by Joyce Petrowski. Eight items were auctioned off at the event. Auctions prizes and top bidders included: (1) A Mexican Fiesta: Blake Johnson, (2) A Brunch: Marcy & Ken Stanczyk, (3) An Italian Night: Jacquiline Gjellstad, (4) Game Night: Bonnie West, (5) A Painting: Barb Walton, (6) Power Ranch Golf Foursome: Cheryl Derby, (7) Power Ranch Golf Foursome: Rodger Seeley, and (8) Slate Basket: Richard Kobasic. It was a great night of fun, excellent food, and wine.

Tranquility Garden Tree of Life

Thanksgiving Meals Delivery: The TPR Foundation provided a Thanksgiving meal for nineteen Trilogy residents who were alone on Thanksgiving. Meals were delivered on November 27 between 10:00 am and Noon. The Foundation would like to thank the Griggsmiller and Wilkerson families for delivering the meals.

Clubhouse Coffee Machines: The Foundation voted to provide an additional $250 to the TPR CA to fund supplies for the two coffee machines in the Clubhouse and Café.

Bill Katz Golf Tournament: Golf tournament planning is hitting high gear to prepare for the annual golf fundraising event.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, April 7. Tee time is at 7:30 am for the shotgun start event. Registration for this event will be available online only (tprfoundation.org) beginning in mid-February. The cost per player is $130 and includes a round of golf, golf cart, swag bag, and many other prizes.

January Wine Dinner: The next wine event will be held on Monday, January 26 at 4:00 pm on the side patio at Slate. This will be a full four-course meal specifically prepared to highlight the wines selected for each course. The cost is $120 per person.

In Memoriam Celebrating the life & ‘Heavenly Birthday’ of Raiford “Bud” Baker (1942-2025) Born in Savannah and raised in Marietta, Georgia, Bud was known for his Southern charm, quick wit, and deep love of sunshine and storytelling. He leaves a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and legendary hair.

Bud and the love of his life, Susan Young Baker, raised three children together in Minnesota where Bud embraced the cold, laced up ice skates, and coached a youth hockey team. He founded REBS Marketing and built a community of friends, serving with Eden Prairie’s Parks and Recreation and Rotary International while he and Susan hosted foreign exchange students. When Bud and Susan moved to Gilbert, Arizona, they became snowbirds and world travelers.

Bud loved golf, Willie Nelson, charcoal grilling (never gas), costume parties, donuts, and, above all, his four grandsons who were his greatest joy. Survived by his wife, Susan; children Lyn (Mike), Brian (Leslie), and Matthew (Morgan); grandsons Raiford, Henry, Colquitt, and Cooper; brothers Billy and Drayton, and a large, loving, extended family.

Ida Isabelle Erickson Ida Isabelle Erickson, with family members holding her precious, ageless hands, departed this world to enter the Kingdom of Heaven on November 17th.

Ida was born in New Mexico where she and her four sisters and one brother were raised by her loving parents, Pedro and Vivian Rivera. The Rivera Family relocated to Racine, WI. in 1952, where she met the love of her life, Roger K. Erickson. Married on April 8th, 1961, they raised three children & celebrated 52 years of marriage together.

After Roger retired, they decided to relocate to a warmer climate in Gilbert, AZ. With their loving and great personalities, the Trilogy gated community welcomed them with open arms.

Ida’s soul is filled with The Holy Spirit. Hers is a special soul who enjoyed activities with her family and friends. Including Game Nights of Bingo, Bunco, Zumba, Old Maid, Ceramics, Thrifting, Greeting Card Making, Painting, Selling at Craft Fairs, Treasure Hunting with her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren, Prayer Meetings & Bible Studies, Coffee Clutching, Lunching, Dinner Parties, Hosting Block Parties, Rock n. Rolling, and of course Non-Stop Dancing! Including taking Belly Dancing Lessons! Music has always been a staple in her family’s lives.

She is survived by her three children, Rodger (Angie) Erickson, Lori (Greg Poplawski) & Rick (Heather) Erickson, grandchildren Alex, Kyle, Rhianna, Ellie, Haley, and Cameron. Great grandchildren Jaxon, Wes, and Blaikley and many siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends including her Honorable Sweetheart, James Ioakem.
