Giving a Tour: Campus Tour Guidelines for Student Ambassadors 3

Tour Starting Locations  

Individual Campus Tours begin at Building 500 (Student Success/Orientation Center).

To include Golf Cart Tours if directed.

Group Visits typically start in front of Building 410, unless otherwise specified on the Student Ambassador (SA) Portal.

Before the Tour 

 

 

Ambassadors must check in with the Recruiting Department or the Administrative Assistant and pick up the tour package at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

The Recruiting Department will provide all necessary materials for the prospective student.

Ambassadors are responsible for verifying that the tour package is complete and neatly organized (all items facing the same direction). Refer to Appendix A for a list of standard contents.

Arrive at the designated starting location 10 minutes before the tour begins.

If you are unable to attend your scheduled tour, promptly notify your Recruitment Point of Contact (POC) and/or your co-Ambassador.

If the Student Does Not Show  

If the prospective student does not attend, return the tour package to the Recruiting Office within 48 business hours.

When meeting the student, confirm their mailing address for follow-up purposes.

Handling Questions  

If asked a question you cannot answer, let the student know that you or someone from the Recruiting Department will follow up shortly.

Write down the question and contact the Recruiting Office at 574-6702 after the tour or at a convenient time. The office will ensure the student receives a response.

Post-Tour Follow-Up 

Within 24 business hours of the tour, complete and send a follow-up postcard to the prospective student. See Appendix B for details.

First impressions matter. Ensure you are: o Well-groomed o Wearing TTC-approved attire (TTC shirt/jacket, name badge, and tour bag) o Dressed professionally and appropriately (no revealing clothing, short shorts/skirts, or spandex)

Engaging with Guests    

Make eye contact and greet each guest individually.

Use the prospective student’s name throughout the tour to create a personalized experience.

While parents or guardians may accompany the student, direct your attention primarily to the student to affirm their independence.

Engage parents respectfully and answer their questions, especially in areas of particular interest to them.

Creating a Positive Experience 

Your enthusiasm and energy reflect the spirit of TTC. A warm, confident, and informative tour will leave a lasting impression on both the students and their guests.

Check-In and No-Show Procedure Upon arrival, please check in at the front desk of the Student Success Center by writing your name and the time you arrived on the sign-in sheet. If the prospective student does not arrive within 15 minutes, you are free to leave. Before departing, be sure to check out at the front desk and indicate that the student was a no-show.

Answering the “Why Trident Technical College?” Question Visitors, students and parents alike come to campus seeking the answer to one key question: “Why Trident Technical College?”

As a current student, your perspective is incredibly valuable. Begin your introduction by sharing a bit about yourself:     

Your name Where you're from Your major Interests or hobbies Any clubs or organizations you’re involved in 5

Then, answer the “Why TTC?” question from your personal experience. For example: “I chose TTC because of the small class sizes, affordable tuition, and strong transfer opportunities.”

If you have a compelling or personal reason for choosing TTC, this is a great time to briefly share it. If your decision was based on practical factors like cost, location, hands-on training, or job placement, mention those, but also highlight what you enjoy most about your experience, such as supportive instructors, engaging campus activities, or helpful student services.

You can also begin to introduce some of the college’s key messages, such as:    

Career readiness Transfer pathways Affordability Student support

TTC Alumni Success Stories To keep the tour engaging, avoid long pauses. Feel free to share one or two alumni success stories to illustrate the impact of a TTC education. You don’t need to quote them exactly, just highlight their achievements. For example:     

A Nursing graduate became the Lead Occupational Healthcare Nurse for Roper St. Francis Healthcare System.

Another Nursing alum is now a Nurse Educator at MUSC. A Legal Assisting graduate now serves as a Program Coordinator for the North Charleston Police Department.

A TTC graduate is the Director of Information Management at the Coastal Community Foundation.

Several alumni have returned to TTC as professors and staff members.

Setting Expectations for the Tour Help visitors feel comfortable by letting them know what to expect. You might say: “Today’s campus tour will take about an hour. There’s a lot to see, so we’ll be moving at a steady pace. Please feel free to ask questions at any time, especially while we’re walking between locations.”

The Take-Home Message Every prospective student who takes a tour at Trident Technical College should hear our “TakeHome message,” which is a set of essential points that we want to communicate to every prospective student. Don’t let visitors complete your tour without getting them!

Tour Length Keep track of the time. Make sure you keep your word and keep the tour to 1 hour. If the tour goes over the time allotted, make sure you let the participants know, and approximately how long before you will return to Bldg. 500.

Problems with the Tour Route Please report any problems or barriers you encounter while on the tour (cleanliness, locked doors, unfriendly interactions, etc.) to the Administrative Assistant immediately upon completion of the tour.

Campus and Tour Script Student Ambassador Tour Script Guidelines This script serves as the foundational guide for all Student Ambassadors (SAs) during campus tours. It is a living document, meaning it will be updated and refined over time by both the Student Ambassador Committee and individual SAs. SAs are encouraged to:    

Stay informed: All SAs are responsible for knowing and using the most current version of the script.

Contribute: Suggestions for improvements and additional research are welcome and can help enhance the script’s effectiveness.

Personalize: Where appropriate, SAs should incorporate their own experiences to illustrate key points and provide relatable, concrete examples.

Adapt: While the script provides a standard structure, SAs may modify it to accommodate unique tour routes or specific audience needs.

By following these guidelines, SAs ensure consistent, engaging, and informative experience for all campus visitors.

Background Information Established in 1964, Trident Technical College (TTC) has been a cornerstone of quality education and economic development in the Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties.

Serving the tri-county region, TTC operates five campuses:     

The tour will take approximately 1 hour. Along the tour route, please feel free to ask any questions. Let’s start right here. We are currently in the Student Success Center in building 500.

New students should begin their Orientation process at the Success Center. During this time, they will be introduced to the following:    

How to use the Navigate System How to access and navigate the Student Portal How to check their student email How to receive and respond to referrals, when necessary

Students will also receive an orientation invitation email to attend mandatory orientation inperson or a virtual session. Students will be assigned to a Success Coach who is responsible for:  

Ensuring the student is enrolled in the appropriate major Assisting with selecting a class schedule that best fits the student’s needs

Learn more about Navigate and the services available in the Student Success Center. Navigate offers academic planning tools to help you complete all important enrollment steps.

Once you exit, refer to the rest of the 500 Building: The Navigate Center provides walk-in assistance for students experiencing technology-related issues. This includes help with logging into the Portal, getting started with D2L, online classes, accessing Accuplacer practice tests, and more. The center also hosts student workshops throughout the year on topics such as Financial Aid Basics, How to Succeed in Online Classes, and Transferring to a Four-Year College.

The Student Life Office is here to enrich your college journey and help you prepare for the future. Through a wide range of opportunities, you can:    

Collaborate with others in group or individual settings Build valuable social and professional skills Explore diverse cultural experiences Participate in fun and engaging recreational activities

These experiences not only support your personal growth but also make your time on campus more enjoyable and fulfilling.

In addition, the office provides essential services such as student ID cards, access to student organizations, leadership development programs, campus-wide events, and regularly updated bulletin board postings throughout the year.

Student Employment is in the Student Life Office. They support students with resume writing, mock interviews, and navigating Career Connections. They also connect students and alumni with employers and host an annual Career Fair.

Bldg. 400 To your right is Building 400, home to our state-of-the-art welding labs and classrooms.

Trident Technical College offers training in both cutting-edge welding technologies and traditional techniques, providing students with a strong foundation in welding theory, metallurgy, and blueprint reading.

Safety is a core focus throughout the program, ensuring students develop best practices alongside technical skills. The Welding program is designed to serve both newcomers to the field and experienced welders seeking to enhance their expertise.

Bldg. 410 Welcome to Building 410, also known as the Student Center.

As we walk through, I’ll point out each office and let you know where it’s located in relation to where we’re standing.

The Student Center is home to several key student services: 

Business Office – This is where you’ll go to pay any fees or balances owed to the college.

Registrar’s Office – Located nearby, the Registrar maintains academic records and can help with official transcripts, enrollment verifications, and graduation documentation.

Admissions Office – Responsible for processing all admissions documents. They can also assist with residency questions and support for international students.

Financial Aid Office – This office processes financial aid awards, including Free Tuition funds, grants, scholarships, loans, bookstore credits, the GI Bill, and more. They also manage the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program for on- and off-campus student employment.

Student Lounge and Food Court – A great place to relax, grab a bite, and connect with other students.

On the second floor, you’ll find: 

Testing Center – Offers proctoring for placement tests, distance learning exams, makeup exams, certification tests, and more. Testing is available year-round across all campuses.

Counseling and Career Services – Provides personal, academic, and career counseling, mentoring, and disability services to support your success.

Office of the Vice President for Student Services – Oversees student affairs and services across the college.

Before we exit the building, are there any questions?

When you're ready, we’ll exit through the same doors we entered and continue toward Building 510.

Bldg. 200 Before continuing toward Building 510, take a moment to point out Building 200, located just across the street.

Building 200 is home to our Business and Marketing programs. Here, Trident Technical College offers associate degrees in Accounting, General Business, Management, Administrative Office Technology, and Computer Technology. These programs blend academic theory with hands-on experience, using state-of-the-art equipment to prepare students for real-world success. Inside, you'll find faculty offices, staff, classrooms, and fully equipped computer labs.

Also housed in Building 200 is our Human Services program, which focuses on Community, Family, and Child Studies. This program partners with over 40 local Human Services agencies to provide valuable internship opportunities. It’s also home to Champions of Change, a student club that has earned multiple “Club of the Year” awards for its outstanding contributions.

Do you have any questions at this point?

Bldgs. 300 and 100 Continue walking past Buildings 300 and 100 until you reach the entrance of Building 510. From this vantage point, you’ll be able to see the clock tower as well as the corners of both Buildings 100 and 300. Facing Buildings 100 and 300: In the distance, you’ll see Building 100, home to our Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree program.

This program emphasizes communication, the social sciences, and the humanities. It’s designed to provide students with the first two years of general education requirements for a four-year degree and is a key part of our University Transfer Program. With thoughtful planning, A.A. students can select from a wide range of courses that align with the core curriculum of the institution they plan to transfer to.

Building 100 also houses faculty and staff offices as well as several classrooms.

Closer to you is Building 300, which is home to several important student support services: 





Recruitment Department: This team helps prospective students navigate the application process, explore TTC’s degree and certificate programs, and connect with resources for testing, advising, financial aid, and more. They also represent the college at community events, in classrooms, and at military and business functions throughout the tri-county area.

Educational Opportunity Center (EOC): The EOC supports students in completing college applications, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), and offers academic and career counseling. Importantly, their services extend beyond TTC—they can assist with applications to any college.

Scholars Network: This program provides academic tutoring, transfer and academic advising, financial and personal counseling, and career planning to help students succeed and reach their goals.

Bldg. 510 Now, behind you is Building 510.

This building houses our Library, which serves as a teaching library designed to support students in their research and academic success. Once students receive their student ID, they gain access to a wide range of online databases, which can be accessed from any computer with internet access, whether on campus or at home.

If you're giving an individual campus tour, feel free to take the prospective student(s) inside the library, as long as you do so quietly and avoid disturbing anyone studying. For group tours, please do not enter the library to maintain a quiet environment for current students.

If needed, there is an elevator located at the back of the building on the right-hand side.

Once upstairs, be sure to point out the study areas located at both the front and back of the library. You can also guide prospective students to the study rooms, which are ideal for group projects and collaborative work. As you walk through the second floor, you’ll notice there are numerous study spaces, including private rooms for group use.

The entire TTC campus is Wi-Fi enabled, so students can connect to the internet from anywhere on campus.

Also, mention that their student ID can be used not only at TTC’s library but also at other college campus libraries.

Next, exit the building and head toward Building 920. You’ll be facing Buildings 700 and 800.

Bldg. 700/800 As you continue north toward Building 920, you’ll notice Buildings 700 and 800 on your left.

These buildings house our Engineering and Manufacturing programs, including:    

Maintenance and Technical Trades Process Control The Flexible Manufacturing Lab The Automotive Bays

These programs are part of the Industrial and Engineering Technology Division, which offers a wide range of career-focused training. As long as industries need skilled professionals in construction, manufacturing, electricity, HVAC, and automotive services, there will be strong demand for graduates in these fields.

Our programs combine classroom learning with hands-on experience in cutting-edge labs, all led by expert faculty with real-world experience.

The Citadel – for Electrical and Civil Engineering Clemson University – for select engineering disciplines

Students complete their first two years at TTC, then transfer directly into their third year at one of these institutions.

On the second floor of Building 700, Veterans and Active-Duty Service Members are invited to relax or study in the Veterans Lounge—a welcoming space designed just for them. Nearby, financial aid advisors are available to help with any questions.

Bldg. 920 Welcome to the Relish Restaurant at Building 920

As you arrive at Building 920, walk up the steps and enter through the glass doors. Directly ahead, you’ll see the entrance to the Relish Restaurant.

Relish is a student-operated restaurant that serves as a hands-on training facility for students studying Culinary Arts and Hospitality. Here, students gain real-world experience in fine dining, banquet, and buffet service. The restaurant is both a classroom and a working dining establishment, where students apply their skills in dining room operations and advanced culinary techniques to deliver exceptional food and service.

Guests can enjoy views into three teaching kitchens—two on the left and the main production kitchen on the right—offering a unique opportunity to observe the food preparation process in action. The space is equipped with advanced audiovisual technology to support instruction, making it a dynamic learning environment for future food service professionals.

Dining at Relish Relish opens to the public a few weeks after the start of each semester. Reservations are required and can be made by emailing Relish@tridenttech.edu. Please note that only credit cards are accepted—cash is not. Lunch service includes a three-course meal and a basic beverage.

As You Proceed Through the Space

Turn left from the restaurant entrance. As you pass the centerpieces on display, take a moment to appreciate the work of our Baking and Pastry students, who created these artistic pieces as part of their coursework.

Exploring the 100 Hallway As you round the corner into the 100 Hallway, you’ll find two prep kitchens on your right. Stop at the first one. These kitchens are designed for first-semester students and focus on foundational skills such as sanitation, knife techniques, and the preparation of basic sauces and stocks. Each student trains at a fully equipped workstation, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1, ensuring personalized instruction and hands-on learning.

Continue down the hallway to the third kitchen, which is the first of two Pastry and Baking kitchens. These specialized classrooms offer comprehensive training—from pastry fundamentals to advanced finishing techniques and retail sales. Students also prepare items for sale in the adjacent Relish Dining Room. This facility is one of the most advanced of its kind among technical colleges in the Southeast, serving both newcomers and seasoned professionals in the field.

All kitchens are fully equipped with audiovisual tools to support traditional lectures and demonstrations, reinforcing the dual role of these spaces as both classrooms and professional training environments.

As you pass the first baking kitchen, you will turn to your right down 200 Hallway, proceeding past the second pastry and baking kitchen. The next area to point out is on your right.

This is our housekeeping lab. The housekeeping lab contains laundry equipment, linen storage equipment, and chemicals needed to teach the multiple considerations of property maintenance.

The simulated hotel suite provides management training in the areas of room design, housekeeping, leisure and business traveler accommodations, care of soft goods, guest amenity considerations, and overall room management, but is currently used for some lecture classes in the Hospitality program.

Next, on your left, is the Math Center.

If it’s not too crowded, feel free to step inside. Please remember to keep your voice low, as students may be studying or receiving tutoring.

The Math Center offers an open and supportive learning environment, providing a wide range of resources including tutoring, workshops, instructional videos, computer workstations, and more.

While support is available across various subjects, special emphasis is placed on mathematics and science.

It’s important to note that all services provided by the Math Center are completely free for students.

The center is staffed by faculty members and work-study students who are here to help.

As you enter:   

To the left, you’ll find the math labs.

In the center, there’s a computer lab.

Along the back and sides, you’ll see faculty offices.

Exit the Math Center and turn left to continue down the 200 hallway, which leads into the 600 hallway.

This building is quite large and has many functions within the college. Along this hallway, you’ll find labs and offices for our Information Technology (IT) staff. It’s also home to several of our IT programs: 



Network Systems Management: A two-year program preparing students for careers such as help desk support, PC support, network administration, network design, and more.

Cybersecurity: This program equips students for entry-level roles in cybersecurity, digital forensics, information assurance, and other cyber defense fields.

Turn left into the 600 hallway.   

The first lab on your right is the Electrical Maintenance Lab. Just before the end of the hallway, on your left, you’ll see the Visual Arts Open Computer Lab, which is reserved exclusively for Visual Arts students.

Before exiting the 920 building, look to your left toward the 800 hallway—this area houses the Industrial Maintenance labs and classrooms.

Next, we enter the 700 hallway.

Turn right and you’ll see Suite 970, home to our Criminal Justice programs, which include:   

Then, take a left and proceed to exit the building.

Once outside, look across the street for the bookstore (Building 950) and head in that direction.

As you walk toward the bookstore, glance to your right, you’ll see the Nursing Building (Building 970).

Bldg. 970 Trident Technical College: Leading the Way in Nursing and Science Education Trident Technical College (TTC) is the Lowcountry’s largest provider of nursing education, offering students a dynamic and hands-on learning experience. At the heart of this experience is the state-of-the-art, 90,000-square-foot Nursing and Science Building, equipped with advanced nursing simulation labs. These labs feature programmable mannequin patients that allow students to build essential skills in a variety of healthcare scenarios—including birthing, pediatrics, and geriatrics—before beginning clinical rotations in local hospitals.

TTC’s nursing program offers flexible pathways for students to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Registered Nurses (RNs). The curriculum is designed in progressive levels, preparing students for increasingly advanced roles in nursing practice.

In addition to nursing, the building also houses the Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program, part of TTC’s University Transfer initiative. Offered through the Division of Science and Mathematics, the A.S. degree provides the first two years of a four-year degree in math or science-related fields. It also supports general education and foundational coursework for many of TTC’s academic programs.

Bldg. 950 Bookstore and Wellness Center Welcome to the Bookstore! Here, you'll find all the required manuals, textbooks, and supplies needed for your classes and labs. For students receiving financial aid, a convenient charge system is available allowing you to charge your books and supplies directly. In addition to academic materials, we also offer a variety of apparel and merchandise featuring the TTC logo.

Now, if you’ll follow me, we’ll head into the InterTech Group Wellness Center, located just to your left as you exit the bookstore.

The Wellness Center is available to all students free of charge. It features an aerobic room, free weights, cardio machines, SportsArt sectorized equipment, and fully equipped locker rooms with showers.

As we exit the Fitness Center, take a moment to look up at the mezzanine level, where you’ll see comfortable lounge areas for relaxing or studying. We’ll now walk through the Café, exit the building, and head left toward the Media Arts Building.

Inside the Media Arts Building, students have access to digital editing rooms for post-production work, as well as a professional sound recording studio, also used as a podcast classroom for the Workforce Training Division (soon to be renamed the Continuing Education Division). Upstairs, you’ll find faculty offices. Straight ahead on the left is our television studio, and to the right are the animation labs, which also serve as open labs when classes are not in session.

As we conclude this portion of the tour, be sure to take note of the South Carolina Aeronautical Training Center (Building 1000)—a key facility supporting our aviation and aeronautics programs.

Bldg. 1000 South Carolina Aeronautical Training Center The South Carolina Aeronautical Training Center is the newest addition to our campus, designed to prepare students for high-paying careers in advanced manufacturing industries.

This state-of-the-art facility supports upward job mobility by offering hands-on training aligned with industry needs.

Aeronautical Studies Division Our Aeronautical Studies division offers three comprehensive programs covering aircraft manufacturing, maintenance, and related technologies. Students receive advanced technical training using cutting-edge lab equipment and aircraft mock-ups. Graduates have successfully secured positions with leading companies such as Boeing, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and various aviation repair facilities throughout the region.

Second Floor – Workforce Training and Advanced Manufacturing The second floor is primarily dedicated to Non-Credit Courses (Workforce Training), with shared space available for academic programs. A wide range of advanced manufacturing courses are offered here, including:   

These short-term programs are designed to help individuals quickly enhance their skills or transition into new careers.

Third Floor – ReadySC and Boeing Partnership The third floor is utilized by ReadySC in partnership with Boeing and is not open to the public.

ReadySC is a vital component of the South Carolina Technical College System, collaborating with all 16 technical colleges to prepare the state’s workforce to meet the evolving needs of employers.

Continuing the Tour: Building 910 As you proceed back toward Building 920, you’ll see Building 910 on your right. This facility houses our High School Programs and the Division of Apprenticeships and Employer Partnerships.

High School Programs and Youth Apprenticeships Trident Technical College offers eligible high school students a unique opportunity to jump-start their college education. Through dual enrollment, students can take college-level courses, often earning both high school and college credit. This can significantly reduce the time and cost of earning a post-secondary degree.

The Charleston Regional Youth Apprenticeships at TTC prepare rising juniors, seniors, and recent graduates for rewarding careers in various fields. Participants receive paid, on-the-job training while attending related classes at TTC, all while continuing their high school education on a modified schedule. These classes are free for accepted students.

Division of Apprenticeships and Employer Partnerships This division supports companies in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties by helping them develop U.S. Department of Labor-registered apprenticeship programs. It also connects employers with motivated individuals seeking meaningful careers through apprenticeship opportunities.

Retrace your steps by entering through the same door you exited. Follow the same path back, but this time, take the 600 hallway all the way to the end. Turn right and continue walking until you reach the Relish Restaurant. Exit through the same door you originally entered.

As you make your way toward Building 410, take a moment to point out Building 630.

On your left, at the back of the campus, you’ll see Building 630, home to our Health Sciences programs. This building houses the Radiologic Technology, Dental Hygiene, Expanded Duty Dental Assisting, and Respiratory Care programs, among others. It also includes a fully equipped dental service lab that is open to the public.

Other Health Science programs, Veterinary Technology and Health Information Management, are located at the Berkeley Campus in Moncks Corner, along with Cosmetology, Transportation and Logistics, CDL, and others.

To the right of Building 630, you’ll find Building 620, our Horticulture building. It supports programs such as Horticulture Technology, Landscape Design, Greenhouse and Nursery Management, Sustainable Agriculture, and Turfgrass and Landscape Management. Adjacent to it is our state-of-the-art greenhouse, used extensively for student projects and hands-on learning.

As you pass by Building 100 again, be sure to highlight its role in campus safety.

Building 100 also houses our Public Safety Department. Trident Technical College is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. Our Public Safety officers are armed state constables, commissioned through the S.C. Law Enforcement Division and certified graduates of the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy. They share jurisdiction with local and state law enforcement agencies across all TTC campuses.

Public Safety officers patrol and monitor the campus. Services include escort services to and from vehicles, motorist assistance, and lost and found.

Security *** If at any time, you feel unsafe, uncomfortable or you feel like the potential student is starting to get out of control – yelling, cursing, acting aggressively, etc., you may remove yourself from that situation/walk away.
