Throughout time storytelling has been important. The elders handed down tradition, folklore and legend to the next generation. It prepared them for life. We no longer listen to stories in our busy fast paced life.

You inevitably will be faced with moments in life that can sometimes, seriously challenge you.

Here are some key strategies you can use to help overcome your obstacles or understand who you are in Christ; when things try to take away your spiritual identity during your personal journey.

1. WELCOME CRITICISM. Behold, happy is the man or woman whom God correcteth: therefore, despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For He maketh sore, and bindeth up: He woundeth, and His hands make whole. (Job 5:17, 18.) God is trying to make men and women of us. The father who truly loves his son and daughter will not refrain from criticism or punishment when that is necessary to make a child stronger and wiser. So when difficulties come, even painful ones, humbly receive them as a sign of God’s deep favor.

Always remember if we are wounded; He binds up and heals us.

2. TAKE A STAND FOR CHRIST. Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of His Father with the holy angels. (Mark 8:38.) This Bible challenge is sharply directed to those who, while committed to Christ at least partially, try to keep it quiet so as not to disturb anybody or avoid seeming at all different from the non-dedicated. But Christ insists upon courageous, all-out loyalty, even enthusiastic witness, both by speech and action, particularly the latter. We must have the character to stand up for Him in this pagan culture. Then He will witness for us at the final accounting.

3. RESIST EVIL. Resist the devil, and be will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you‌ (James 4:7& 8) Cleanse yourself of evil, humbly admit your faults, ask God for strength and He will lift you up. Get close to God and God will be very near to you.

4. DO GOOD WORKS. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

(Galatians 6:9.) It is not always easy to be loving in the face of ingratitude, to be generous when confronted by greed and to do good works when surrounded by selfishness. But stay with your worthwhile activities and great blessing shall be yours.

5. PRAY WITH CONFIDENCE. And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us. (I John 5:14.) You can have complete confidence in the Lord and in His promises. God does always answer sincere prayer.

He answers in three ways: (1) Yes, (2) No, (3) Wait awhile. And every answer, whatever it may be, is for our good.

6. COMMIT YOUR LIFE TO GOD. If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:14.) The fear of world tragedy is deep in men’s hearts.

Catastrophe lurks in the dark shadows of impending nuclear war. Is mankind to burrow underground like animals seeking protection? There is a better way. It is to accept God’s great promise that if we turn humbly to Him, He will hear our repentance and save us from disaster.

He is our hope. As individuals we must commit our lives to God and thus claim our part in the promise of mankind’s salvation.

7. ACCEPT GOD’S PROMISE. Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38, 39.)

Tuck this tremendous promise close up against your heart and never forget it. Keep close to Christ and God’s help will follow you all the days of your life. I hope this has been helpful and that you live life abundantly, as God longs for it to be. Everything takes time, but with time, comes excellence.

Spotlight Tyrone Neal We only live once, but if we do it right, come on y'all once is enough. Live better!

My name is Tyrone Neal and I'm founder and creator of the Bully Me To Sleep movement. I'm just an ordinary person who is fed up with the direction our youth is heading. I want us to be better, and for us to be better we have to do better.

I've grew up in some of the toughest cities in America and I witnessed a lot. I don't like a lot of things that I have seen or heard about and I'm here to make my stance. My mission is to get an army of people like me to tackle this task with.

I'm a new author, born and raised in the Bronx, New York. I also grew up in place I do call home as well in Newport R.I and Baltimore MD. I grew up in the inner cities of them states and I have been on both sides of the law. I'm on the lawful and good sides now and have been for some time but I would love to help change a lot of things I've witnessed in this cold world.

Tell us about your Business.

I have a book and clothing line out. I also lead an anti-bullying movement which is building by the minute. ‘Bully Me To Sleep’ is the title to all three endeavors which I'm the sole proprietor for. The movement and stance is to get as many people on board as possible to help eliminate this disgusting bullying epidemic.

What Inspires You? Anything and anyone who makes a change for the better. I'm inspired by togetherness and equality. I'm inspired when I can change a negative into a positive in any aspect of life for me or someone else that inspires me.

What are Your Future Plans?

My plans are to bring togetherness to our youth and young adults as much as I can. No matter how indifferent we may be, we are all one people. I want to teach the world and start community by community that we can coexist. No matter race, age, gender, sexuality, preferences or style, we are all one.

What would you like to be remembered for?

Making a change in the culture; Making it comfortable for our youth to go to school and come out in their communities without getting bullied or picked on.

School is supposed to be a safe haven for our children; A place where they go to learn, network and make friends. Not a place where you dread to go because of bullying and humiliation. My life goal is to help bring bullying awareness to our youth.

What would you like to Spotlight?

I want to spotlight my book which is an amazing read. There are a few typos because I was deceived by my publisher because it doesn't take away from the great story. I put my heart into that project and every reader so far confirms that.

Not one negative review and so much praise, I admit I had to pat myself on the back. I also have ‘hoodies,’ ‘hats,’ and ‘t-shirts;’ which I sell to help spread and support the movement. Good comfortable quality and affordable prices. Also, I'm in talks with a couple of business men on turning the book into a movie or a series with a second book coming.

Tell us about something you overcame.

Street life! I was never a bad guy I was always genuine and loyal. But as a young black man my opportunities were limited, especially as an ex con who was locked up at the young age of 17. It was easy to turn to the streets with very little opportunities. But I overcame them obstacles a long time ago and changed my life for the better, and I'm just starting to write my story.

What would you like to Achieve?

Greatness, I want to be great at what I do. I want me and my movement to be

remembered, remembered forever! When I'm dead and gone I want it to still go on. That's the type of mark I want to leave in this world.

Spotlight Dr. Yvonne L. Gonzalez

Dr. Yvonne L. Gonzalez earned her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership in 2014. She holds a Master of Education as an Educational Diagnostician and a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, both from the University of Texas, at El Paso. She is an international best-selling author and has been featured on the radio and in the media. Dr. Gonzalez has 20 years of experience in public education and currently implements a co-teaching model at the elementary level, providing bilingual, specialized curricular support to teachers and at-risk students. She has written curriculum for the school district where she is employed and facilitated district-wide professional development. Additionally, she has been an adjunct faculty member for the University of Phoenix since 2010.

“Education and research are passions of mine. What inspired you to write your book?

My name is Millie Lee. I am an integrative cardiologist in New York City. I became a cardiologist, specifically an interventional cardiologist because I wanted to “fix” patients with heart disease.

For nearly 20 years, I followed the standard of care in conventional medicine and treated thousands of patients with heart disease. As an interventional cardiologist, I implanted many stents in patients with heart attacks and severe coronary artery disease. I came to realize, however, that I wasn’t really “fixing” heart disease with these procedures and medications because most patients had not altered their lifestyles in any significant way and their risk factors remained the same putting them at very high risk for recurrent events and death. I realized that it was not their fault…that we, the healthcare system had failed them and due to the constraints of our system, the focus wasn’t as strongly focused on their lifestyles. So, I decided to change how I practice cardiology, taking the necessary time to get to the root causes of heart disease, which are all modifiable and very often reversible with lifestyle changes.

What inspired you to write your book?

“I wrote the book, “Your Heart Health is in Your Hands” to enlighten as many people as I can that heart disease is preventable through simple lifestyle choices.” “People need to know what their

risk factors are and what they can do to reverse them and prevent heart disease, the number # 1 cause of death in the world.”

“I would like readers to understand that they may be at risk for heart disease (half of all Americans have at least one risk factor) but that the risk can be properly identified and measures taken to prevent the development of heart disease.” “I also share with readers easy lifestyle changes that can readily be incorporated into their lives right away.” “Making healthy choices don’t have to be hard or punitive, taking small but smart steps can have a big impact on your health.”

SUMMER MEAL Applesauce Barbecue Chicken

Ingredients • • • • • • •

4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (6 ounces each) 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1 tablespoon olive oil 2/3 cup chunky applesauce 2/3 cup spicy barbecue sauce 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 teaspoon chili powder Directions Sprinkle chicken with pepper. In a large skillet, brown chicken in oil on both sides. In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients; pour over chicken. Cover and cook until a thermometer reads 165°, 7-10 minutes.

Freeze option: Cool chicken; transfer to a freezer container and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Cover and microwave on high until heated through, 8-10 minutes, stirring once.

Nutrition Facts 1 chicken breast half: 308 calories, 8g fat (2g saturated fat), 94mg cholesterol, 473mg sodium, 22g carbohydrate (19g sugars, 1g fiber), 35g protein.
