PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Windber Lettermen and Supporters, Welcome to the third edition of our Windber Rambler Lettermen’s Club (WRLC) Donor Recognition Booklet. It has been a good 2022 for the WRLC. With the hard work of the Board of Directors, our partnership with the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies (CFA), and the generous support of our donors we have accomplished the goal of doubling our funds in a two-year capital fundraising effort. We initiated the campaign in December of 2020 and completed the effort in December 2022. We hope that these efforts will provide scholarships and financial athletic support to Windber Area High School athletic department for many years into the future.
The WRLC was founded twenty-one years ago by Bill “Diz” Hughes (’53). Our first male and female scholarship recipients were awarded in 2005. Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship. Since 2005 we have given scholarships every year which now have totaled $50,000 in awards. The scholarship now is $1,500. Since 2016 we have been providing financial support to all athletic teams. To date we have given $49,800 to the athletic department. In addition, we have given “exceptional” gifts. In 2016 during the renovation of Windber Stadium we provided $25,000 in funds for the entrance into the stadium. In 2022 we contributed $5,000 for a softball batting cage.
Our current leadership goal is to put the WRLC in a financial position to live in perpetuity. We believe by revising our bi-laws and continuing our partnership with the CFA and maintaining our current fund balance, a solid foundation is in place for the next generation. We now need that new leadership to step up!
My hope is that you will continue to support the WRLC in any way you can. Our efforts have made a difference in making our school and community a better place. Let us all try to fulfill the WRLC motto: “Remembering the Past, Supporting the Present and Building the Future”!
