The LA Marathon was inspired by the original 1984 Olympic Games marathon hosted in LA. Since 1986, the LA Marathon has been held for about 36 times. Originally, the marathon was held during the month of March, yet was moved to November 7 in 2021. Obviously, due to the pandemic, it was postponed due to everyone’s lives being impacted during this time. Therefore, this year’s marathon is important and highly essential. This year’s marathon was quite different. The course was changed to end at Avenue of the Stars and there were less volunteers. However, APOGLAA stepped up and gave up their time. They weren’t the only ones. Many runners still showed up. All were friendly and supportive of one another. The mutual friendship was shown between all of us, whether through small supportive nods to words of gratitude and support towards one another. Obviously, the past two years have been hard on all of us. This event gave people hope. It allowed people for the first time in months to be a part of something big in their LA community. It allowed others a chance to push themselves and climb that hill. To me, it was a time to aid and assist others. We were handing out water at the halfway mark. The runners had finished 13 miles and had 13 more to go. They were visibly exhausted, yet they had us to give them water. Many words of appreciation and thanks were given, and that was what I looked Continued on page 3

PRESIDENT’S MESSA MESSAGE GE It has a been difficult year for APOGLA amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and organizational challenges. Hence, let us first pray for our Brothers and Sisters, and Family Members who have suffered sickness and tragic loss, that they may find comfort and grace. Yes, we had difficult and challenging times. Nonetheless, we will continue to give thanks on Thanksgiving Day, because we still have so many blessings to be thankful for. Thank you to the organizers and hosts of the APOGLA Thanksgiving Party for giving us the opportunity to be together for a night of brotherhood and sisterhood, family fun and giving thanks for our blessings. We are thankful to all the APOGLA Brothers and Sisters and their families for their membership dues, for their volunteerism and service in APOGLA service projects and organizational activities, for their prayers and support to fellow Brothers and Sisters, and Family Members in times of their loss, sorrows. Thank you family members for supporting your partners, fathers and mothers, and APOGLA. Thank you for attending our APOGLA General Membership Meetings (GMMs). Thank you for buying and/or bringing food and beverages, sharing your favorite meals at the GMMs. Thank you for sharing your ideas to help APOGLA be a stronger and better alumni association. Your attendance and participation during GMMs brings joy to our elected officers and fellow members and at the same time, helps in the furtherance of APOGLA. forward to. To just make a small impact, a little cheer towards the runner made me happy. Also, was able to help the LA community with APOGLA AA family. MY LA MARATHON EXPERIENCE by Kenzie Aralar Many participants gathered up for the 36th LA Marathon. The LA Marathon is inspired by the Olympics Games marathon from 1984. This year was a bit different with the timing and courses. Although there was a bit of a change, this year’s event was filled with tons of support. The LA Marathon was much needed this year. This year’s LA Marathon was held on November 7, 2021. It usually is held on March, but it was moved to November due to the crisis that has been happening. The route also changed to end at Avenue of Stars. The minor changes did not stop the runners to participate and for APOGLA to volunteer. The event began at 6:30. While they had to run 26.2 miles, we focused on helping and assisting the participants. I forgot how fun it was to volunteer for LA Marathon. This event was filled with support and cheer. Handing out water to the runners at the halfway mark showed our support to them. Friends and family were also gathering up at the halfway mark to cheer their loved ones. These actions made the runners feel care and hope. Words of appreciation were also given from many runners. The communication with the runners, supporters, and volunteers made me feel happy. I am very thankful to be one of the APOGLA AA kids to volunteer in the LA Marathon. Hence, this service project is all about promoting the essence of friendship thru leadership and service.

Before this comes of course, we have to thanks the Lord for the blessings we have received and continue to receive on Thanksgiving Day. There are other celebrations for this month. World Kindness Day is on November 13, Veteran’s Day is on November 11, Black Friday is on November 27 and Thanksgiving Day is on November 25. ***************************** People born this month are under the Zodiac sign of Scorpio. They are known for their determination, bravery, loyalty, honesty, ambition, and for their jealousy. But don’t cross them for they will let you feel their sting! Hope that you have a wonderful day and that the year ahead is full of fun and adventure! ***************************** This year and the last have been difficult for most of us. We have seen the passing of some of our brothers and sisters and also many relatives of our members. It was difficult for us to take. This really tested our faith. But we have to hang on and continue to pray for God’s intervention and protection. ***************************** Kudos to Brod Egay Ninofranco for once again, we witnessed a very successful LA Marathon service. Every time this marathon takes place, I always marvel how easily Brod Egay makes it happen - how he ties the loose ends and how he deals with every detail of the activity. Congratulations too, to all who helped make the service project a big success! ***************************** We will gather once again as one to thank the Lord for all the blessings we continue to receive from Him.
