It is sad that the Angel of Death has once again visited the house of Alpha Phi Omega taking from us our beloved brothers Ernesto Garrovillas and Ramon David. Grieve for our loss, but let us also celebrate their life for they were good and kind APhiO Brothers, fun to be with and brought laughter and smiles in us. They may be gone, but their memories will be in our hearts always. Hanggang sa muling pagkikita, Bro Ernie and Bro Don Ramon.

Let us also cheer for the successful APOGLA Golf Tournament held last August 28, 2021 at the Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills, CA. I would like to recognize APO-Florida, that despite the COVID-19 pandemic and apprehensions, they were able to meticulously prepare and push for the 15th ACNA Biennial Convention in Fort Lauderdale last September 2-5, 2021. APhiO delegates and guests got a very warm welcome as soon as they arrived. And as Bro PP Tony Gomez said to APOFlorida, “our heartfelt gratitude to you guys for everything. You overwhelmed all the participants with your many feats and surprises, beyond expectations. This will be another APO experience with very good memories to cherish for a long time”. Bro Lakay Art lost by only 2 votes but won more for his “class act, great statesmanship and leadership”. We may have lost but as Bro Lakay Art emphasized, “ APOGLA has been the epitome of the APO principles and beliefs and will always be”. Cheers! We also congratulate Sis Ofel and Bro JR for being appointed as ACNA Treasurer and ACNA PRO respectively. Another Cheers!

We still have one service project before the year ends – the APOGLA Blood Drive. This will be held on October 16, 2021 at the Rosemead Masonic Lodge at 8637 Valley Blvd., Rosemead, CA 91770.

Let us register and sign-up for this project. We need 50 volunteers to donate blood. Remember, you are not only helping save other people lives, you may also be helping save your life.

It is September, and the start of filing of candidacy for our beloved APOGLA’s officers for next year.

I am one with the APOGLA COMELEC when they said “Kudos to those who are willing to give their time to lead APOGLA”. Remember, my brothers and sisters, that one of our duties in Alpha Phi Omega is “I will pay my dues”; dues pertains not only to monetary dues but to your talents and skills, particularly in leadership, friendship and service. YOU can do it, mga Kapatid.

And what has the pandemic made us remember - Life can be short, don’t wait any longer. Life can be short, enjoy every moment. See you all at our coming GMMs, services and fellowships.

BR O. EDGAR NINOFRANCO’S MESSA GE AT BRO MESSAGE 15TH APO-A CN A BIENNIAL CONVENTION APO-ACN CNA Distinguished Past Presidents of Alumni Council of North America, Presidents of the different Alumni Associations, Esteemed Brothers and Sisters, Families, Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen… Good Evening!

I am honored and privileged to stand in front of you tonight as I share the joy and gratitude of how and where the Alumni Council of North America stands today.

During my term as President of the Alumni Association of Southern California in 1988, I hatched the idea of creating an umbrella organization that will oversee the Alumni Associations in Canada and in the US. I presented the idea to Brother Danny Nagrampa, President of APO NorCal and Brother Joey Makayan, President of APO East Coast when both attended the Southern California Christmas Party that same year.

So in 1990, just before the start of the Northern Cal and Southern Cal Sportsfest, the Ad Hoc Committee was formed. Brother Toti Ayo, from Beta Kappa Chapter was elected Ad Hoc President by the Charter Alumni Associations consists of… Northern Calif., Southern Calif., Chicago-Midwest, East Coast, Houston and Toronto. Thus, the Alumni Council of North America (ACNA) was born.

Subsequently, Brod Toti was officially elected as the 1st ACNA President during the September 1992 Biennial Convention in New York and saw the addition of three (3) Alumni Associations… namely: AA of San Diego, CA; the State of Washington and Montreal, Canada.

Today, ACNA stands strong, healthy and relevant. From the six (6) Charter Alumni Associations that started ThirtyOne years ago, ACNA have blossomed into 30 Alumni Associations and definitely will continue to grow. We owe this growth to the Past and Present Leadership, the support of the Members and the undying commitment and dedication to the ideals and principles for which we all adhere to… LEADERSHIP, FRIENDSHIP and SERVICE. However, it is not enough to shout out these words but rather we should lead by examples, continue to practice the true meaning of Friendship and develop impact programs of Service within ACNA, our communities and across the borders of ALPHA PHI OMEGA. After our college years, we all moved-on to find our respective places in this big wide world and some have continued to be involved with our beloved fraternity. APO Southern California was organized in 1980 and I am fortunate to have been a part of it from the very beginning.

APO Southern California which is now Greater Los Angeles is still the largest and strongest Alumni Association outside of the Philippines and I am grateful to have served in various capacities and as the 4th President.

APOGLA continue to be involved in community service, social functions and family events such as the annual Los Angeles Marathon, a service project I also initiated and introduced to the members and has been a yearly service event for APOGLA since 1987. We also continue to get involved with the Los Angeles Food Bank, Feed the Homeless and many others.

As I have mentioned earlier, we should not rest on our distinction but we should continue to be united, remain committed on our programs of Service in our communities and most specially in the poverty-stricken parts of the Philippines.

We should expand, explore and be the change we want in APO, in ACNA and in the world. We shall work together and make a difference in the lives of brothers, sisters, families, friends and to those who are in need.

I would like to thank President Jun De Castro and his team for what they have accomplished during their term.

While our lives and the whole world continues to be disrupted by the Covid 19 pandemic, which some of us have had incredible losses, some worse than others, you have led us in a manner we should all be proud of.

I encourage everyone here to remain strong and continue to fight this illness. And by God’s good grace, we look forward for another banner administration by the Incoming Officers. And I am hoping to see everyone in Seattle, Washington for the next Convention.

Once again, I am greatly touched, honored and humbled to have been asked to address this gathering of Alpha Phi Omega in North America, yet, I feel so proud to have been involved in the creation of our beloved ACNA. I would like therefore to share these honors with my fellow Organizers… Brother Danny Nagrampa and Brother Joey Makayan. Although they are not here with us, I am sure both of them are grateful to what ACNA has achieved.

I also would like to share this honor with a special person, the woman who has been with me during this journey. The mother of our children… Natasha, Spencer and Megan and yes, they are all members of APO, USA. Please meet my partner in all these endeavors, my wife ANTOINETTE. In closing my dear Brothers and Sisters, here’s my words of wisdom… “What divides us in beliefs and in principles is far from what unite us together.” So, let’s move forward, continue to work together and Dream Big for ACNA. And beyond everything else, let us remain Respectful towards one another and carry-on with the Tenets as Brothers and Sisters of Alpha Phi Omega we all loved.

GOINGS ON by Sis. Fely Montecillo The Ber months have descended upon us once again and you know what that means. Christmas is just around the corner followed by the New Year. That means we would have all grown one year older. We should therefore, thank the Lord for giving us His blessings and keeping us around our loved ones. To all those born this month, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We hope your day is fantastic and the year ahead even better still!

Those born from August 23 to September 22 fall under the Zodiac sign of Virgo. Virgos are logical, practical, and systematic in their approach to life. This earth sign is a perfectionist at heart and is not afraid to improve skills through diligence and persistence. Virgos are kind, gentle and supportive friends and lovers. So to our Virgo Sisters and Brothers, may you all have a wonderful Birthday! ***************************** Everybody’s elated with Brod Roehl Reyes’ sporty conceptualization of Tiger Tony’s Golf Academy (TTGA) and even creating the “TTGA Viber Group”. It is so noble of Brod Tony to share his skill and expertise of the game which is easily catching fire among the members of our group. That includes even the seniors with aching backs and hips mind you. Brod Tony finds joy in sharing his golf knowledge with our Brothers and Sisters and with many others who approach him regardless of the skill level. He has been doing it every now and then with the same unselfish passion.

According to Brod Tony, “Golf is not simply a sport or recreation. As in life, it teaches one how to handle its ups and downs with its many challenges, struggles, and the rewards that come with it. It brings out the best and worst of us. It keeps you grounded and humble. There is no such thing as ‘self taught’ in golf. The attitude ‘I know what I’m doing’ does not work in this game. You start it wrong, and then everything that follows will be wrong. That’s why every beginner needs the proper guidance in this game and this ‘golf life’ will be more fun.”

Everyone is aware that studying golf is costly (around $80+ per 30 minute to an hour per session) and Brod Tony offers it to us and to everyone who wants to learn for FREE! He even provides free range balls at Knollwood driving range courtesy of the golf ball pickers who he also teaches. And it also goes with free breakfast at Tita Ella’s canteen! How lucky can we be?

The ff. are under the guidance of Brod Tony: Geoffrey Arroyo, Lito Tarculas, Precy Reyes, Frank Tanglao, Melody Ang-Gayon, Sam Bragado, Doc Rolly Franco, Ruel Umandal, Ed Mendoza, Nemie Mosequera, Nards Castillo, Rocky Marte, Sonny Martinez, Oca Atienza, Mar Garchitorena, Raul Sambitan, Manny Ilagan, Pastor Dennis Casaje and the list goes on. Of special interest is Brod Tony’s nine year old future LPGA prospect Elaine Zee from Hongkong whose Mom Vera comes to him for a few tips here and there. By the way, Brod PJ Aclan has also established a TTGA “annex” in the South Bay/Long Beach area.

The current “enrollees” in the academy, upon my prodding, are giving their comments about their study of the game: Tony Amon: It is an excellent physical as well as mental exercise.

Eric Serrano: I’m commending Brod Tony for taking time out to “teach” senior beginners like me on the proper golfing mechanics and showing us how to learn and enjoy the game at this point in our lives.

Rene Calvario: It teaches us how to be patient and persistent.

Roland Paras: I find studying the game very rewarding. I try to practice the tips given by Brod Tony and find myself getting “addicted” to the game. I believe I’m improving.

Roehl Reyes: The game really needs dedication and perseverance. Hopefully, we’ll get better!

Henry Valdecantos: It has ignited our fellowship and enthusiasm. It made me realize how much I missed our Brods and Sisters!

I love the camaraderie and I enjoy the game so much!

Emma Galang: This offers us an outdoor activity, keeps us active, and allows us to socialize. Plus, it really is exciting!

So here’s wishing all of you to hopefully, one day rise to the ranks of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus! Good luck! ***************************** PP Sis Emma Galang reminisces wistfully our late Brod Ramon’s active participation in our organization during her tenure. In forming the coordinators group, she requested Brod Don Ramon to be one - an offer he gladly accepted. He was surprised to be chosen by Sis Emma to be coordinator of the Inland Empire. The following months saw Brod Don Ramon performing his duty to the best of his ability.

He was even able to bring in new members like Bro. Sammy Zamora, Jun Salinas and others. He was present in all GMM and service projects. Sis Emma also mentioned that it was Brod Don Ramon who gave the initial seed money raised for the victims of typhoon Ondoy. Brod Don Ramon, indeed, was a hard act to follow! We shall truly miss him!
