ACN A EXECS RE-CONVENES IN CHICA GO CNA CHICAGO

The ACNA Spring Board of Directors Meeting 2017 had just concluded last March 30-April 2, 2017 in Chicago, IL. Several new developments have transpired; elected new COB is Bro. Teddy Ramos of Gamma Epsilon and current president of APO Las Vegas and our very own Sis. Betta David is the new ACNA Board Secretary.

Below are some highlights of the meeting: 1. Presentation of the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC). The CRC will be in charge in the revision and adaption of the new CBL during the 2018 ACNA Convention in Montreal in 2018.

2. Financial Review Committee (FRC) was created. They are scheduled to make a report

by June 30, 2017.

3. The Awards Committee was created.

4. Financial budget for Administrative Year 20172018 was presented and approved.

5. ACNA Medical Mission and Water for Project were presented. The ACNA Medical Mission is on its final stage of preparation to be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. A continuing service of ACNA during every APO Philippine convention.

6. Fund raising projects were presented.

In the works for the future, is the re-introduction of tele/video conferencing using Skype for reporting (set schedule after the APO Philippine Convention).

The next ACNA Fall BOD meeting is scheduled on September 1-3, 2017 to be hosted by APO Houston.

Kudos to APO Midwest-Chicago for hosting a wonderful meeting.

PRESIDENT’S MESSA GE MESSAGE

In my role as President of APOGLA, there are times that things can be overwhelming. Yes, it is true that I am retired. But when people know you are retired, guess what? From family, to friends, to community, & organization, they think you have all the time in the world. All the time gaps have to be filled in. Very little time is set-aside for myself. Every morning that I wake up is the little time set aside for myself.

While sipping coffee, I have a pen ready to write down, “TO DO LIST.” I also anticipate the tomorrow and whenever list. If you do not organize yourself, things can fall through the cracks and it is very easy to fall prey. Because being a Filipino, the “bahala na” system can set in.

Last week, when I attended the 2017 ACNA Spring meeting held in Mid West Chicago, I was impressed by the dedication of our brothers and sisters who worked tirelessly for a successful event. Also,hats off to those who attended and put in their time, effort & money. A big thumbs…way up to the brothers and sisters who in the past initiated and created what it has become of ACNA. Few of our very own APOGLA members shaped it and have grown to a powerhouse organization. And now, another one of us is holding the highest position, Sis Irma Almazan, ACNA President AP 2017-2018. You can’t help but feel the admiration on how she handled the meeting, the fellowship, and the activities. We are proud of you Sis Irma.

After the ACNA meeting, Chris & I bonded with our siblings. Chris has two sisters and a brother in Chicago, Illinois while my sister lives two hours away in West Lafayette, Indiana. We experienced a fulfilling visit not only bonding time with our loved ones but also cruising the four states in a matter of a day from Illinois, to Indiana, to Ohio and finally in Kentucky. It was a refreshing week, at peace with nature and relatives.

Now back to reality. For everybody’s information, the first part of our seminar will be given on June 17, 2017. I have to find an appropriate place conducive for a seminar. That is why it was delayed.To save money, I am utilizing the place for both seminar and our GMM. Here are the schedules of events that will be given this year. All seminars will be given two-three hours prior to the GMM meeting.

In closing, let me share this allegorical story to convey the hidden meaning of life. Read on:

The Secret of Life A boat docked in a tiny Philippine village. An American tourist complimented the Filipino fisherman, “Pedro” on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. “Not very long," answered Pedro.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American.

"How long would that take?" asked Pedro.

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

Pedro explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs...I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat. With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Los Angeles, or even New York City!

From there you can direct your huge enterprise."

"And after that?"

"Afterwards? That's when it gets really interesting," answered the American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!"

"Millions? Really? And after that?"

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta, and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends."

“That’s what I am doing right now” replied Pedro.

BO ARD OF DIRECT OR’S CORNER BOARD DIRECTOR’S April once again and as you know, this month is planting time but it also is harvest season in some parts. And harvest season it is for us and in our own turf we have more to be happy about!

We just came back from a very successful first ACNA meeting in Chicago under the leadership of Sis Irma Almazan as President. I am very proud to share with you about two of our greats who were named members of two different committees, Bro Eric Serrano as part of ACNA Constitutional Committee (CRC) which will focus on Financial Policies and procedures. On the other, Bro Ferdie Yambot was designated as a member of Financial Review Committee (FRC) that will tackle the financial report submitted by the previous administration.

From the board, I would like to report that resolutions on preventive suspension and voter’s eligibility will be presented for approval by Director Eric Serrano of Rules and Ethics at the board meeting on April 12, 2017. As previously mentioned it will either be in the form of a resolution or it will be incorporated in our policies and procedures.

As proud as I am, I can’t help but say that I feel so privileged and honored to be a member of APOGLA. I am sure all of you feel the same way. We have our CBL and Policies & Procedures that we observe and followand I must say we are consistent in that regard.

Our GMM is always well-attended; everybody is welcome to speak his mind and participate in the discussion that he is very passionate about; spouses enjoy setting the table making sure food is ready before meeting starts; APOKids grow up together until they become fathers and mothers themselves; young kids are happy to see other familial kids, etc. What a place to be in!

APOGLA, that is!

So it’s harvest time for us this April for reasons I have already stated. What perfect timing!

My 2 ¢ents Wor th orth On C7 and C3 Ma tter s: Matter tters:

In one past GMM in 2016 (term of PP EricS), there was an approved motion not to include C3 matters in a C7 GMM. It was religiously observed until out of necessity and in the interest of LFS, Sis Prez BettaD had to break the ice at the March GMM. On “Other Matters” it came as a plea for manpower support for an upcoming C3 TOFASS project.

Prez Betta likened it to APOGLA’s volunteerism to the LA Marathon – a non-profit entity; rendering service to another non-profit org. Instead this time, the C3 arm (APOPGLA, Inc) is the service recipient with some token of gratitude in favor of the C7. A 20 man crew shall act as golf marshals and servers on April 22nd at the Robinson Ranch Golf Course.

A highly spirited discussion and exchange of ideas ensued with valid issues ably addressed. One legitimate concern is that “April 22nd being too close for comfort, are proper project logistics currently in place and in motion?” an assurance that the project can realistically happen is needed. Sure enough, the C3 team supported Prez Betta in offering meaningful facts (i.e. venue and posters already out, along with forging an alliance with 19th T Club to field-in 80 golfers) and that an informal MOA(Memorandum of Agreement) has been reached for skilled Manpower sourcing. In favor of the C7, the C3 will shell-out $50 per individual (X 20 = $1K) in favor of the C7, for whatever purpose the AA desires. The responses, though met with initial rebuttals, gave the body a clear realization of mutual benefits, hence, eventually becoming acceptable then concurred in by the body. A million thanks to Bros. MelvinV, EgayN, ChoSy, LakayArt (with everyone’s ears glued to the matter and ready to pitch in), with whose clever queries and pointers, the symbiotic C7-C3 relationship gets a chance to evolve and progress.

FACT: In APOGLA, no doubt, caring intellects come by the DOZEN! Their brains and voices are heard when necessity dictates! KUDOS. Note that one important outcome of this deliberation is that “it was put into motion and concurred in by the body to include C3 matters in the C7 GMM if and when there are pertinent issues for tackling.” Therefore, expect to see the inclusion of C3 in the C7 GMM agenda in the future… because… there is a much more to share! A note for Prez Betta: “We can now consider to formalize the MOA” – my 2 cents worth.

In April, small animals that were hibernating usually come out and the birds fly back northward to settle, the birds and butterflies begin to gather nectar. This month is also Autism Awareness month, Financial Literacy month and Confederate History month among others. We welcome April then with much gladness.

We are all aware of the need for clean drinking water specially in the rural areas of the Philippines.This is exactly what this project is for which ACAI strongly supported and one that ACNA Prez Sis Irma Almazan has endorsed to us. We are hoping that other members of ACAI get to read about this to keep them informed of what their AA is doing nowadays.
