After all, there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of jeans manufacturers. What works on your friends, your sister or your daughter may not work for you at all. So how can you find your perfect pair without tearing your hair out? Follow these 5 steps and you’ll discover how easy gettin the perfect pair of jeans can be.

Fit Gettin the right fit is key. These days jeans are not an inexpensive purchase, and you want to be sure to get your money’s worth. You will not wear an uncomfortable pair of jeans for long, so don’t even think about toleratin something that is so-so. Go for amazing! No gapping at the waist, riding up in the rise or bagginess in the thighs. If your skinny jean is too tig t in the calf, skip it. Keep trying on until you get it right. If you come close to perfect but need a littl help, a great tailor can work wonders. And by all means, don’t buy a pair that gives you a muffin top! Find a rise that is slimming and keeps everything in place. Note: When trying on your jeans, sit, stand, squat and move around to be sure they move with you and don’t bind. Look at the rear view. Ask about shrinkage. And when you find the pair that fits you like a glove, buy two!

Knowing what silhouette is right for you is essential. Your goal is to create balance and the truth is one style does not fit all. Just because a particular style is trendy does NOT mean it’s right for you. Don’t be afraid to try new styles, however, if it’s not right don’t give in. Skinny jeans have been the most popular choice, but are not always right for everyone. If you want to wear skinny jeans but are a bit curvy, wear a longer top or jacket
that comes below hips, or wear your skinny jeans with boots to create balance. If you’re fuller through the hips and/or the bust, a bootcut will be a better style to balance you out. Trouser jeans can work well on many body types. Steer clear of full-on flares if you’re above a ‘certain age’ as they are better for the younger set. If you’re fuller through the booty, keep your pockets plain and simple. If you’d like to amp up that area, choose pockets with embellishments to make you appear fuller. Choose back pockets that are in proportion with your bum for best effect.

Appointments are necessary for the boutique to be truly prepared for the bride. We want to do everything to give the bride a great experience. We suggest bringing along the close friends and family needed for support in making the big decision, but to keep the number smaller to not create confusion in the amount of opinions. Pinterest and photos in bridal magazines are always great to begin deciphering what a bride is interested in trying, but we suggest that our brides keep an open mind when actually trying on gowns. We really do find that opinions can change when the gown goes on and that's what makes this job so much fun! • WHAT HAPPENS IF A BRIDE ASKS FOR A PARTICULAR DESIGNER THAT MAGGI BRIDAL DOES NOT CARRY? Our bridal consultants are very knowledgeable about bridal designers' collections in the industry. If we do not carry a particular designer, then we usually try to find a designer that we do carry who would have the most similar look. If we do not have quite the look, then we do try to point them in the right direction to another bridal boutique who can also give them a great experience. We always tell our brides that even if we can't find her dress at our boutique, then we can at least point her in the right direction and give her a great memory. We value the time that we spend with our brides.
• WHEN IT COMES TO WEDDINGS, THERE MUST ALWAYS BE A PLAN B. WHAT IS MAGGI BRIDAL’S PLAN B FOR DRESSES THAT COME IN THE WRONG SIZE OR ARRIVE LATE? First of all, our philosophy is to
be careful so that we do not encounter issues; however, if there is a problem, we are committed to our brides to ensure that the problem is solved quickly and with as little stress as possible. We are also very open and honest with our brides if there is an issue due to unusual circumstances. We have an amazing team in our alterations department that can work wonders with fabric. Also, we have chosen our designers specifically to ensure that they are reputable and will have our back if an issue arises.
• WHAT KINDS OF TRENDS CAN BRIDES EXPECT TO SEE IN 2016? There will certainly be
more intricate beading and gold accents on gowns as well as 3/4 and long sleeves. The trend of the cropped top is gettin more popular. Illusion necklines are still going strong with sheer lace at the neckline or beaded yokes for a glamorous look. Lace will continue to be a bridal favorite, but designers are constantly introducing different textures for a fresh new look.
• WHO ARE MAGGI BRIDAL'S THREE FAVORITE DESIGNERS AND WHY? Mikaella
Bridal represents the classically elegant bride who values impeccable fit and fine fabrics. They pay a lot of attentio to small details such as trimming underskirts with delicate lace. Justin Alexander has beautiful beading and amazing corseting and structure in their gowns that do wonders for a figure! Emmaline Bridal has lovely fabric and unique, playful design details for the ethereal, boho-chic bride.

With a combination of perfect timing and proof-positive in the proverbial pudding, Oprah Winfrey happened to discover Lisette-L pants when she was outfitted by her staff in a pair for her October 2013 O Magazine cover. Lisette had earlier met with Fashion editors for O Magazine in NYC to present her line, and as she was en route back to the airport, the editors emailed her, requesting some LIsette-L pants for Oprah to personally wear. Her staff had imagined that Oprah would love the line, and they were spot-on! She fell in love with them, claiming they were the best fitting pants she had ever worn, and even took them home with her. ASK ANNA Hi Anna, I recently tried Botox for the first time. I had a pretty deep vertical frown line, and although the botox did lessen it some, it was still pretty visible. What else can I do to get rid of the wrinkle? Would you recommend more Botox? (I originally had 30 units) or would you suggest something entirely different like a filler? Thanks Deborah The intention of Botox is to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause those wrinkles to form in the first place. When at rest, if you still have visible deep lines, most likely Botox is not the solution. My recommendation would be to seek a reputable facility that offers a range of medically supervised treatment options. Based on the way you’re describing your frown line, it seems as if one option for you may be Belotero, a dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a natural component of your skin. Unlike other fillers, Belotero works well to fill in specific wrinkles, without creating volume or overfilling the area around the injection site. As stated on their website, Belotero integrates seamlessly into the skin, allowing for immediate and smooth correction of fine to deep lines. As with most fillers, this is not a permanent fix so the length of results depends on the filler selected. A more lasting option may be to receive a fractional laser procedure. There are several options, such as Fraxel or Halo by Sciton. These lasers work to create columns underneath the skin, which stimulate collagen and elastin, while leaving the outer layer of skin in tact. This results in plumper, firmer skin over time, which decreases the appearance of deeper wrinkles. One thing to note about laser is the final result is not always instant, and there may be some downtime associated, whereas fillers are more instantaneous but with effects that do not last as long. This is why it’s important you seek a reputable facility, and you are explained all of your treatment options so you can make an educated decision for yourself. Consider the purchase as you would any other investment decision or home purchase, and educate yourself as much as possible before buying a piece of art:
• Visit as many galleries as possible and talk to the staff. • Visit art school annual degree shows, which generally take place in May or June. • Visit art fairs where you can see many different galleries in one place. • Theatres, cinemas, cafes and libraries often display art that is for sale. • Look at art magazines for information about what is happening and what is hot to buy. A great place to start researching art locally is Artspace, on Davie Street, in Raleigh, which is a non-profit visual art center dedicated to presenting quality exhibitions and educational programs within an open studio

When buying art for your home, either study the market thoroughly or pay for independent advice. Be prepared to invest substantially at the start, either through buying a work by someone well-known (which is less risky) or spreading the risk by buying a larger number of works by lesserknown or even unknown artists. • Galleries have price-lists on display; if not, ask to see one. • Research the price range of the sort of work that you like and fits your budget. • You may have to frame, transport or insure your work of art; check exactly what is included.
• Buy works you genuinely like, just in case the investment doesn't work out. • Red dots by a work indicate that it has been sold, a half dot that it is reserved; but ask anyway.
EMERGING ARTISTS
Buyers can also get good value by buying the work of young artists who are establishing their reputations. If the right choice is made, considerable returns could be made over the long term. Purchases of up and coming artists have yielded excellent returns over the past few years and the investment return on a particular work can be substantially increased if a gallery is promoting the artist.

Always wear white gloves to avoid finger marks getting onto the surface of the print and causing damage. • If your print is re-rolled, then make sure that tissue paper is first put over the front of the print to protect it. • Don’t attempt to remove the authentication label attached the back of your print. If you try and do this, it will destroy the label and damage the back of your print. The label is there to indicate that the print is not a forgery. If it or the stamp is tampered with or removed, it will impact the value of the print and might no longer be identified as a signed edition. Because a lot of people treat buying art in the same way they treat buying home furnishings, it can be part and parcel of putting your home together. You might expect to spend thousands of dollars on a suite of furniture, so why not spend a bit on what you hang on your walls. Art is personal and subjective: Buy what you love, first and foremost.

Here in The Triangle, shutters and drapery panels are especially popular--offering great versatility, controlling the light that enters a room, and fitting in with any decorating style. Beautiful floorlength drapery panels, though, remain the epitome of North Carolinian window fashion: These can be simple or embellished with trim; casually presented in cotton, or elegantly presented in silk; and always touch the floor. CURRENT TRENDS A current trend is to use outdoor rated fabrics and trims for interior window coverings. The fabrics range from sheer to chenille, and have a "hand" as soft as any interior fabric. The selection of the patterns and textures has never been as large. These fabrics resist sun damage at the windows, resist fading, and can be cleaned with a simple solution of bleach and water if soiled. They are most often use these in moist areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms as well as rooms where the draperies or valances are likely to be "handled" such as children's rooms. LATEST TECHNOLOGY Hunter Douglas has introduced just this summer the Powerview™ line of motorized window coverings. This option is available on the Hunter Douglas cellular shades, sheer shades, roman shades, woven wood shades, and roller shades. The remote has the appearance of a decorative pebble to be discretely placed on a table in any room setting. Shades can be programmed to raise and lower at specific times, at seemingly random times for a "vacation setting". or stop at a favorite position chosen by the homeowner. No wiring is needed for these shades, they are battery operated.

When I first heard of this concept, I thought that training my brain to act differently was nothing more than wishful thinking. Nonetheless when my balance became a little shaky, I went to a physical therapist who said she could help me to sidestep this problem and teach my brain to “rewire” itself. She led me to a high-tech machine, had me stand on its platform and hooked me up to straps secured around my waist to keep me from falling. Then the platform swayed back and forth, side to side, as well as both at the same time. As it turned out my center of balance was far from perfect. It was on the lower left side of my body and not in the middle, where it should have been. I was assigned a host of daily exercises, increasing in complexity. Last week my foot nicked a hole on a walking path. But I did not pitch forward or fall. Instead I caught myself without thinking about it. I had indeed “rewired” my brain. Changing our habits can also alter the way our brain responds to the environment. Do we want to be less anxious? Or to have faith in ourselves and be more content? Then we have to create habits that promote positive ways of thinking. No matter what our age, parts of our brains remain “plastic,” meaning it’s never too late to develop new skills, to expand our enjoyment of life or to create different ways of seeing the world.
I’d like to share an experience of my own. About twenty years ago, I realized I had slowly slipped into the habit of seeing life from a negative point of view. What happened to that optimistic, enthusiastic person I used to be? This question came to the forefront when my mother, a spontaneous, looking on the bright side sort of person, came for a visit. The first thing she saw as she pulled into the driveway was my husband jack hammering the sidewalk leading to our front door. She seemed not to notice. Instead she smiled and gingerly worked her way past. Stopping for a moment, she looked up. “What a beautiful sky,” she said. “I haven’t seen one this blue in a long time.” Once inside the house, I said I felt just awful that the refrigerator had broken down that very morning.“No sense in wringing our hands over it,” she said. “We’ll go out to eat. Anything within walking distance?“ “Only a McDonald’s,” I answered. “Oh that would be fun; I’ve often wondered what’s one’s

like inside.” Thus we soldiered on to McDonald’s, squeezed together, walking on an uneven sidewalk, with traffic zooming by. Mom seemed positively elated. On the way back home, she said how fortunate I was to have so much convenience within my grasp: a museum, library, church, grocery store, even a new Y. I hadn’t looked at it that way. Instead of resenting leaving my lovely 1749 farmhouse, with its wide front porch and sweeping Spanish oak trees dripping with moss, I practiced being grateful for having had the experience. Consequently my focus shifted to the advantages of living in the city. And at this stage of my life, to have so much to do within walking distance, even for my grandchildren whenever they visit, has turned out to be a wise decision. And the habit of counting those blessings has opened new neural pathways in my brain: leaving my former gloomy attitude behind and moving my new positive attitude to the sunny side of the street.

Smoking affects more than just your lungs— in fact, your body’s inflammatory response to the toxins can cause major damage to your skin’s health and appearance. Dr. Laura Briley, a physician at Southern Dermatology in Raleigh, sees firsthand the serious complications that arise from smoking. She and her colleagues both agree that skincare patients who smoke and also deal with conditions like psoriasis or lupus have much more severe skin complications than nonsmokers. “As a skin cancer clinic, we are especially aware that our patients who smoke are, with rare exception, terrible wound healers,” Briley explains. “Their bodies are full of inflammatory toxins, and inflammation comes across the skin. It causes wrinkles, and thickening of the skin. There are actually medications for lupus that simply do not work for smokers.” So what’s a smoker to do in order to replenish and restore the health of his or her skin? First of all, get serious about quitting and find support to kick the habit. “Simply quitting the smoking habit will improve health in so many different ways,” Briley says. Then the treatment goal would be to restore the skin’s elasticity, which would involve a daily routine of moisturizing and sunscreen. The person who is serious about moving on from the smoking habit can also choose from other cosmetic options—such as chemical peels or the Fraxel laser—to smooth the top layers of skin. “Many smokers tend to have more dilated capillaries, and together we might consider use of vascular lasers to improve that condition,” Briley adds. She explains that sometimes the very deep wrinkles caused by smoking, especially around the mouth, are very difficult to treat. But there is hope, and Briley encourages former smokers that once they “have made a powerful commitment to put this habit behind them, we can find procedures that will, at the very least, improve the condition and appearance of their skin.” 68 | triangle style

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, an
Australian television series, it is a crisp, frequently amusing journey into the world of a 1920‘s modern woman, the glamorous and well heeled Private Detective Miss Phryne Fisher. Smart, flirtatious and a bit on the wild side, Miss Fisher’s hobby is solving murders, which is certainly lucky for Melbourne, Australia because there seems to be no end of them. My attention, however, focused on Miss Fisher’s beautiful clothes, her fabulous decorating, and the meticulously researched historical detail in each episode, plus the upbeat bouncy music which is a treat in itself.
