It is no secret that the Active Chapter has been going through a difficult stretch this past year. They have lost brothers in tragic circumstances, dealt with serious interpersonal conflicts, and are still working on rebuilding their recruitment efforts. All of this has made it harder for the chapter to operate as the strong, cohesive organization we know it can be. Recognizing these challenges, the Alumni Board believes additional support is needed to help the chapter move forward. We have made the decision to bring on an experienced Recruitment and Growth Consultant who can work directly with the active members to strengthen recruitment efforts, develop chapter leadership, improve member engagement, and provide the structure and guidance needed to support long-term success. This would likely represent the largest investment the Toledo Alumni Organization has made in the Active Chapter in many years. We believe, however, that this is precisely the kind of
investment alumni are called upon to make: not simply supporting the chapter when things are going well, but stepping up when our guidance, experience, and resources can make a meaningful difference. Our goal is simple: to help the Active Chapter grow, strengthen brotherhood, and build a sustainable foundation for the future. We want to ensure today's members have the support they need to succeed while creating opportunities for future generations of Toledo Triangles. A healthy, engaged Active Chapter benefits every member of the Toledo Triangle family and protects the future of the organization we have all worked to build. Making this investment a reality will require the support of our alumni. We will need your help to fund this effort and give the Active Chapter the opportunity to continue building momentum. We encourage you to stay engaged, read about the chapter's recent activities, and watch for future announcements and fundraising efforts from your Alumni Board. 1

Active Retreat Brothers Coming Together for Fall 2026 BY: ALEX RUSSEL TOL26
Active Retreat this year was held August 28-29, the weekend before classes. On Friday evening, it began with a round table discussion where Actives could discuss the problems they noticed and deliberate on any potential solutions. The issues of recruitment, maintaining grades, and getting service hours were the primary focus. Brothers sought to approach these issues with ideas like classroom visits, study tables and groups, and post-Philanthropy get-togethers,

Recruitment began with Rocket Welcome Week as IFC organizations couldn’t attend Rocket Launch this year. At the Welcome Bonfire, Brothers established connections with many of the incoming freshmen and encouraged them to attend the Engineering Welcome Event the next day. There, we tabled and more formally introduced the freshmen to Triangle, getting more contacts and garnering further interest. By the end of Rocket Welcome Weekend, the chapter had 16 potential new members (PNMs) identified.

respectively. Afterwards, a recruitment workshop was held for non-E-Board brothers where they practiced trying to recruit an actor. Meanwhile, the E-Board had introductions with the Recruitment and Growth Consultant, Quinn Moran, and went over expectations for her partnership with the Chapter. On Saturday morning, brothers attended a presentation hosted by Brother Rooney, where he discussed finance best practices and how to approach budgeting personally and as a Chapter. This was followed by a Scavenger hunt hosted by Brother Hill, taking the
Involvement Fair this year was also very strong, with a very high amount of the student body attending. We identified another 8 PNMs there. We have also held some informal events, such as a board game night and an afterActive Retreat cookout for PNMs, encouraging them to come back for our pre-RUSH events and for RUSH week itself. In short, recruitment has been going well so far with 24 PNMs already identified, 6 of which already seem incredibly likely to Tie-Dye Recruitment Event bid. With the help of our PreRUSH cookout, RUSH events, classroom visits, and other gettogethers, we should be able to raise those numbers even higher.
Actives all over campus and working as a team-building exercise. At lunchtime, Brother Mullins went over the scavenger hunt and asked the Actives to think critically about the challenges faced there and how they might relate to running a Chapter. He also hosted a presentation about leadership, event planning and proper communication, and recruitment. Active Retreat wrapped up with a wellattended cookout, giving Brothers and PNMs the opportunity to connect, explore the house, and experience what the Chapter is all about.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS Will Potter tol24 – Computer Science, Junior I’m William, and I’m currently in my junior year pursuing a degree in Computer Science. I enjoy hiding rubber ducks around our chapter house and across the University of Toledo campus, so if you find one, there’s a good chance I put it there. I’m also currently serving as our chapter’s President. Outside of school, I enjoy playing and designing my own video games, watching shows and movies, as well as listening to music. Recently, I’ve also gotten into reading and am currently reading If He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin. I’ve also been getting into card games, especially Magic: The Gathering and Riftbound. Chase Swank tol25 – Electrical Engineering, Sophomore I’m Chase, I am a sophomore majoring in electrical engineering. I joined Triangle in the fall of 2025 and I am currently the Member Development Chair. Some of my hobbies involve hanging out with friends, golfing, and listening to metal music. Some of my favorite bands are Falling in Reverse, Lorna Shore, and Whitechapel. I really enjoy going to concerts to see my favorite bands live. I enjoy playing video games. My favorite video games are Stardew Valley, Terraria, and Phasmophobia. Jason Gorges tol14 – Product Manager, The Boeing Company Shortly after completing my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering, my girlfriend (now-wife) and I moved from Toledo to the “Gateway to the West” - St. Louis, Missouri. Here I started a job at Boeing as a software engineer, where I wrote code for military fighter jets. After nearly 8 years at Boeing, several promotions, and an MBA degree, I am still working on the same aircraft I started on. However, I have moved out of software development and into a Product Manager role. As the Product Manager, I am responsible for the execution of the software and integration projects that go into the aircraft. Early last year my wife and I moved back to Ohio. And since then we have added a lot of new activities to keep us occupied. Including keeping up with our increasingly speedy 9 month old son, and working on our 100+ year old home in Shaker Heights. But my personal hobby is learning new hobbies and hoping I stick to one for more than a year. So my hobby I’m enjoying right now is watchmaking: where I disassemble wristwatches, clean the parts, loose a few minuscule screws, crawl around on the ground with a magnet for an hour, and hopefully put the watch back together.
HOUSING UPDATE The Toledo Chapter has signed a new contract for a term length of 6-10 years to keep us in our Greek Village house at 3030 Village Loop. With this new contract comes renewed focus on filling empty beds in the house. We currently have 10 members signed up out of an expected minimum of 17. Until we are up to at least 12 residents, our access to the third floor is restricted. Some maintenance projects were done to the house over the summer; including repainting of all entryways, stairwells, and hallways. Future projects may include resituating our Triangle pyramid to a concrete pad and redoing the brickwork on the front beds. We are also expecting UT to hire a new staff member responsible for Greek Village in the coming months.
SUPPORT TOLEDO’S LEGACY Your support of the Toledo Chapter Endowment Fund directly strengthens the experience of our active members and helps sustain the chapter for generations to come. Endowment funds help send members to important national events such as Leadership Training Weekend (LTW) and Scobie Leadership School, while also supporting chapter projects, scholarships, and other opportunities for our active members. The fund also helps make this alumni newsletter possible. Please consider making a contribution to the Chapter Endowment Fund and investing in the future of Toledo Triangle.
