Jason Lee Simmons COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jason Lee Simmons, 45 of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Capitol City Gardens Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with kidney disease. He is the son of Ivan Heber Simmons Jr. (Midori) and Jacqueline Simmons. Jason was best known for his sense of humor, musical talents, love for his family, friends and the Lord. He was a 1992 graduate of Springfield South High School where he participated in marching band and symphonic choir. After graduation, he attended Central State University. Before his illness, he traveled throughout the U.S. as a liquidation car sales specialist with Hopkins and Raines. As a youth, he was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and its youth choir, BYF, and Unity for Christ Community Choir, directed by Arlin “Par” Tolliver. He has since been a member of World Harvest Church in Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife Jametris Simmons; his children Dashea and Donyea Simmons of Evansville, Elise Hardiman of Princeton, Jason Lee Simmons Jr. and Jarison Simmons of Crossville, Tennessee, Jamal West, Zion House, and Jayden Simmons of Columbus,

Ohio; parents Ivan H. Simmons Jr. (Midori) of Princeton and Jacqueline Simmons of Indianapolis; grandmother Lunolia Simmons of Princeton; sisters Jalynn Simmons and Jeanna Simmons-Evans (Timothy) of Indianapolis; nieces Jasmon Henderson and Kayla Evans of Indianapolis; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Jason is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Melville and Marguerite Liggins of Springfield, Ohio and paternal grandfather Ivan Heber Simmons Sr. of Princeton. A celebration of life is at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 34 W. Pleasant Street, Springfield, Ohio, on Saturday, Feb. 2, with visitation from 10 -11 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. His body has been entrusted to Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society in Columbus. James Arthur Tenbarge HAUBSTADT — James Arthur Tenbarge, 85, of Haubstadt, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at his home surrounded by family. Jim was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Posey County, to Leo and Lula (Scheller) Tenbarge. Jim was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt, St. James Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus. He worked for Emge Packing Company for 41 years and was the owner and operator of Tenbarge Lawn Mowing Service. Jim enjoyed golf outings and Purdue football games with his family. Surviving Jim are his wife of 65 years, Connie (Elpers) Tenbarge; daughters, Jane (Dennis) Barrett of Princeton and Michele (Kenny) Will of Evansville; sons, Ron (Jamie) Tenbarge and Randy (Jan) Tenbarge, both of Haubstadt and James D. Robert L. “Bob” Ashby EVANSVILLE — Robert L. “Bob” Ashby, 94, of Evansville, passed away at 1:22 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at Deaconess Midtown. Bob was born May 12, 1924, in Pike County to Charles and Edna (Hays) Ashby and spent his formative years on a farm in Gibson County. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1941 and married Catherine “Kate” Arbuthnot in 1943. Bob was a Veteran in the United States Navy, where he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Cabot (CVL 28) in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a charter member of the Brake Supply, having helped open the business in 1947 and retired as corporate treasurer and sales manager. Bob and Kate lived in Francisco, her hometown, for the first 25 years of their married life, and they have lived in Evansville since 1967. He was a member and a Past Master of Oakland City Masonic Lodge 467 and Scottish Rite of Evansville, Toastmasters, Gideons, and several discussion groups. Bob and Kate were former members of Francisco United Methodist Church and current members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Evansville. He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Kate Ashby; daughterin-law, Kathy Ashby; grandsons, Terry Ashby, Jr. and Kyle Ashby; sister-in-law, Jonnie Ann Ashby; and several nieces and nephews. Loretta Wells Morgan MOUNT CARMEL — Loretta Wells Morgan, 62, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at her residence. She was born Nov, 15, 1956, in Sumner, Illinois, the daughter of John W. and Roberta (Houghlan) Schultz. She married Jeff Morgan and he survives. Loretta worked in the floral industry designing beautiful flower arrangements. Most recently she was employed at Uniquely Michaels in Princeton, formerly known as Karen’s Flowers and Gifts and was a friendly face when delivering flowers and gifts to the public. She loved fishing, camping and cooking outdoors. She had a huge heart and greatly enjoyed helping others. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her and held a very special place in her heart. Loretta will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mary A. Woodall PETERSBURG — Mary A. Woodall, 80, of Petersburg, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Amber Manor Care Center. She was born Nov. 29, 1938 in Petersburg to Orlando “Toad” and Mary Hope (Robling) McCrary. She married James “Peckeye” Woodall and they spent almost 55 years together until his passing Nov. 20, 2014. Miles B. Zeigler

PRINCETON — Reverend Miles B. Zeigler, 84, of Princeton, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. He was born March 19, 1934, to Benjamin Breard Zeigler and Letha (Griffin) Zeigler in Monroe, Louisiana. Miles proudly served his country for four years in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He had been a full-time pastor from 1961 until 2009 and then served as a supply pastor after retirement. He was a former pastor of Broadway Baptist Church in Princeton and Crossroads Baptist Church in Oakland City and resided in Princeton since 1998 coming back from Florida. He had devoted his life in the service of the Lord, and was a warrior for God, a good counselor and family protector. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. Miles is survived by his wife, Gala Zeigler, to whom he was married April 20, 1956, and who said of him, “He was the greatest man I ever knew!”; two sons, Eli Soligberg (Nikki) of Sweden and Don Zeigler (Susanne) of Princeton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six siblings, George Zeigler, Vickie Warren, Elizabeth Butler, Linda Allen, Danny

Zeigler, and Merlene Zeigler. He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings and a grandson, Justin Zeigler. Charles David Ray Sr PRINCETON — Charles David Ray Sr., 71, of Princeton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019. He was born in St Louis, Missouri Thursday, March 20, 1947, to James Logan Ray Sr. and Ruth Faye Roy Ray, both of whom have preceded. Mr. Ray has been an area resident since 1972 and was an engineer with Norfolk Southern railroad, retiring after 39 years of service. On June 20, 1964, he married Claudia Hornberger who survives of Princeton. David is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife Claudia, son David Ray of Princeton; daughters Cindy Whitehouse and Carla Ray both of Princeton. He is also survived by brothers Jerry (Joyce) Hagene of O’Fallon, Illinois, and James Logan Ray Jr. of Potosi, Missouri. Other survivors include seven grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Larry Falls OAKLAND CITY — Larry Gilbert Falls 77, of Oakland City, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Princeton, to Gilbert and Dona (Morton) Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Prentice (Bud) and Phillip Falls, sister Fern Jeanie Martelli, a great-grandson and wife Connie Kaye (Golden) Falls Dec. 13, 2015. He and his wife were married for 51 years. He served in the U.S. Navy June 23, 1960 to April 14, 1964.

Nick J. Herthel BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Nick J. Herthel, 59, of Bloomington, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at his residence. Born Sept. 30, 1959, in Bedford, he was the son of Fred D. Herthel and Linda C. Mitchell. He married Debra Kaye Smith Nov. 6, 2004, and she survives. He was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the class of 1977. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the I.U. Kelley School of Business in 1981. He was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence by the I.U School of Law at Indianapolis in 1984. He served as a law clerk and certified legal intern with the Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office during 1983-1984. Nick practiced law for 34 years. He was a partner with Plummer and Herthel from 1984-1988. He was a solo practitioner in Bedford from 1988-2004. In 2005, he and his wife formed Herthel and Herthel Attorneys at Law and have practiced together since 2005. He was an avid horseracing enthusiast and has owned, bred, and raced thoroughbred horses. He was a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Lawrence County Bar Association.

Survivors include his wife, Debra, of Bloomington; his father, Fred Herthel and step-mother, Linda Herthel, of Bedford; his mother, Linda C. Mitchell, of Bloomington; a sister, Debra A. Woods and brother-in-law, Jack Woods of Bedford; two sisters-in-law, Laura Herthel and Sonya Smith; nieces, Bretta Skinner, Kara and Kristen Herthel; his father and mother-in-law, J.D. and Connie Smith, of Francisco. Phillip “Lucky” E. Johnson PATOKA — Phillip “Lucky” E. Johnson, 75, of Patoka, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. He was born Sep. 19, 1943 in Princeton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pansy Beatrice (Terry) Johnson, his father, Elmer Woodrow “Woody” Johnson, and his step-mother, Doris (White) Johnson. He married Linda (Burkett) Johnson in 1976 in Mount Carmel, Illinois. Mr. Johnson proudly served in the United States Army and National Guard. During his working years, he operated Johnson Service Company and worked as a millwright. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Masonic Lodge, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a jack-of-all-trades who enjoyed working with his hands, taking up woodworking and guitar playing in his later years. His other hobbies included fishing and family time on the White River, hosting fish fries, and watching political news. Judith M. Williamson NEWBURGH — Judith M. Williamson, 77, of Newburgh, formerly Haubstadt, went to be with the Lord Jan. 21, 2019. She was born in Griffin, Indiana June 3, 1941, to Clarence Eugene Freeman and Nona A. (Matz) Freeman. Judy graduated from Griffin High School in 1959. She married the love of her life, William H. Williamson September of 1959. Judy worked as a cook for several restaurants and did factory work at a few local companies. She enjoyed making ceramics, painting, and running her fishing lure business with her husband, J&J’s. Judy loved shopping and could window shop for hours. She also loved playing cards with the grandchildren and going to church. Judy was a member of Living Word Christian Church of Newburgh and past member of Ft. Branch Nazarene Church. Jerry Wise PRINCETON — Jerry Wise, 83, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Princeton to Jerauld Thomas “Doc” & Marie L. (Robling) Wise. He married Sara Sue (Beasley) Wise on Dec. 31, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Francisco and they were blessed with 60 years together. Jerry proudly served in the United State Army in the 51st Infantry 4th Armored Division in Germany from 1958 until 1960. He worked at Hansen Mfg. in Princeton starting in 1954, and was a tooling engineer and was tool-room foreman, retiring on Jan. 2, 1998. Jerry was a member of the Indiana Archaeological Society. He enjoyed restoring and working on antique tractors, woodworking and was a collector of various items. He was an avid reader and loved being outdoors. He loved traveling, especially with his brother, Fred and Mary Philips on the WRAY trips.
