Teachers in School District 43 are heading back to school next week full of optimism as a result of the hiring of 181 educators to restore class sizes and supports to special needs students. Smaller class sizes in elementary schools and a smaller number of special needs students in classes across the district means more help for struggling students, the president of the Coquitlam Teachers’ Association (CTA) predicted. “You’ve got class sizes going down and you’ve got more classes, so you can spread out the number of kids through more classrooms, and it will be easier for teachers to meet those children’s needs,” Ken Christensen told The Tri-City News.
