SH A R I N G Never has an organization in the TriCities been so aptly named: Share.

Share Family and Community Services leads this region to share its bounty, its ingenuity and innovation, its caring heart.

What began in 1972 as a children’s clothing exchange “quickly became a focal point for community members who wanted to help themselves and their neighbours with life’s challenges,” according to the social services agency’s website.

While Share does much to live up to its stated vision — “a strong community that welcomes everyone to live, participate, contribute, and reach their full potential” — nowhere is its contribution to the community more prominent than its work feeding those in need. The Share food bank, operating out of the organization’s Port Moody headquarters, last year

distributed almost 15,000 food hampers to residents of the Tri-Cities — more than a third of those under 19 years of age.

Share also provides extra food during the holidays so those without financial means can still enjoy a family meal, and it gives gifts to kids of all ages.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP SHARE THIS SEASON:

You can also volunteer at the Share holiday gift wrap at Coquitlam Centre.

Volunteers are needed to help add some holiday sparkle to the special parcels people bring by. A minimum shift is three hours. To help, call Ruth at 604-529-5101 and leave a message.

• Make a donation online at sharesociety.ca/christmas.

• Drop food donations at the Share food bank at 2615 Clark St., Port Moody (around back) or place them in the donation bin at your local grocery store.

• Take toy donations to the Share holiday gift wrap desk at Coquitlam Centre, which is open during mall hours Dec. 1 through 24.

NOTE: Partial proceeds from the Tri-City News’ 2017 Fun Book will go towards Share Family and Community Services.

Extra copies of the Fun Book are also being printed and can be ordered for a minimum $1 donation per book. Contact adcontrol@tricitynews.com to arrange for more copies.
