What does it mean to you and your business to be an A-List recipient?
We are absolutely delighted to be included on the A-List. We are grateful to have been trusted with the opportunity, each day for the past 37 years, to make positive & meaningful contributions to our community and to the lives of Burnaby residents.
What other Burnaby businesses do you frequent?
I can find almost anything I need right here in Burnaby, without having to go too far afield! I’ll go for coffee and a pastry at Café Divano, or grab a pizza at Cotto up on Hastings. There are so many fantastic places to grab a bite in the Heights, but my most recent discovery is Peaked Pies. Over the years we’ve had great Christmas parties at the Executive Inn, and at Hart House as well. Finally, I do enjoy having Whole Foods just down the road at Brentwood – lots of great grocery alternatives, not to mention that my daughter works there!
How do you give back to the community?
We consider ourselves very fortunate, and embrace opportunities to give back. We support many small grass roots initiatives by donating plants and garden supplies
Gardenworks is a collection of B.C.-owned community garden centres, with two very unique locations in Burnaby. We offer a wide selection of beautiful plants, garden supplies, pottery & home décor as well as expert advice. It is our passion to create an inspired experience for our guests. We connect guests to nature, to growing beauty and harmony in gardens, homes and communities. Connecting people to our natural world, we inspire our guests to create greener, healthier and more vibrant communities.

Each year we partner with Meadowlands Horticultural, also a Burnaby business, to grow and sell “Summer Spirit” hanging baskets to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Over the past 10 years we’ve contributed more than $120,000. This year we’ll be contributing $20,000! We recently got together with Paraspace Landscaping, Steamworks Brewing, and members of the BCLNA to create an urban greenspace on an empty lot at the corner of Williams and Douglas Street. We are really looking forward to seeing how the garden matures!
What are your favourite things to do in Burnaby?
There are so many great places to enjoy a quiet walk or a short hike right here in Burnaby – my favourites are Foreshore park, Burnaby Lake and Burnaby Mountain. The rose garden at Burnaby Mountain is simply an added bonus. I love my craft beer - Steamworks, Dageraad and Studio Brewing are all fantastic! And it’s great two have two pitch and putt golf courses so close to home!
Where is your favourite place to go in Burnaby?
Deer Lake Park - anytime there’s a concert. Sometimes I’ll just grab some gelato at Nuvola Gelato on Hastings and head to Barnet Marine Park for a walk, and to watch all the dogs romp around together!

Being voted on to the A-List is wonderful recognition that our customers appreciate our products and our service. It is appreciated by all our staff.
What other Burnaby businesses do you frequent?
We try to frequent businesses in the Heights for a variety of our needs. We also choose Burnaby companies for the majority of our other business needs whether it is ingredients or for repairs and maintenance. We like to support the community that supports us.
How do you give back to the community?
We support the community through donations to not for profits. Sometimes it is with cash and other times it is with product. We also actively participate with the Burnaby Board of Trade, Heights Merchants and Baking Association, etc. to give back and help small businesses in the community.
What are your favourite things to do in Burnaby?
Burnaby has great trails for walking and biking that I utilize. Burnaby offers much, as a local tourist I love the facilities around Deer Lake.
Where is your favourite place to go in Burnaby?
I can’t think of a favourite place, there are so many. I just became a grandpa so perhaps it will soon be time to visit the carousel and Burnaby Village Museum.
Valley Bakery is a European styled bakery known for its Cakes, Pastries and Cookies. We have an outstanding variety of baked foods not found in other bakeries in the Lower Mainland. We have been a part of the Heights Community since 1957.
