From The Rockpile Tip of the week By Stephen Powers Assistant Professional Chipping And Pitching When around the greens, chipping and pitching to a target will help you understand trajectory and rollout. For this drill you will need a towel, 3-4 clubs and some golf balls. First place a towel on the green as a target. That towel will provide a visual for your LANDING AREA. Using multiple clubs, hit shots to that landing area and take note of the trajectory and rollout with each club. The higher lofted clubs will fly higher and roll out less, the lower lofted clubs will fly lower and roll out further distance.

The Towel Drill Equipment needed: - Golf Towel - 3-4 clubs (LW,SW,PW,9i) - Golf Balls Set-up Pick a spot to hit from off of the approach area. Next you will place your towel on the green in the LANDING AREA that you intend to hit. Practice hitting all your clubs into that landing area and take notice of the trajectory and final resting place of the ball. This drill will help you understand which club to hit when chipping and pitching on the course.
THE RULES OF HANDICAPPING
Exceptional Score Reduction Under the Rules of Handicapping, if a score produces a Score Differentia that is 7.0 strokes or better than the player's Handicap Index at the time the round was played, it is considered exceptional and subject to an exceptional score reduction: If the Score Differential is between 7.0 and 9.9 strokes better, a -1 adjustment is applied to the player's most recent 20 Score Differentials in their scoring record. If the Score Differential is 10.0 strokes or better, a -2 adjustment is applied to each of their most recent 20 Score Differentials. Future scores made by the player will not contain the -1 or -2 adjustment (unless they are also exceptional), which allows the impact of the exceptional score reduction to slowly diminish over time.

Through the Green DO YOU KNOW HOW TO FIX BALL MARKS? The average golfer will make 8 ball per round. This means that if 150 people play the course per day this equals 1,200 ball marks per day. Multiply that by 365 days in a year (438,000 ball marks) and your greens will begin to resemble swiss cheese. We can all do our part by fixing ball marks. This will keep the course enjoyable for everyone and consequentially cause more putts to drop!
