2024 Golf Rules and Guidelines

DRESS CODE The dress code at Idle Hour requires all golfers to wear appropriate attire on or about the golf course, practice areas and putting greens. Tee shirts, tank tops, sweatshirts, swim wear, tennis wear, cut-offs, cargo shorts and jeans are unacceptable. Shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer. Furthermore, all male players must have their shirts tucked in. Caps must be worn with the bill forward and must be removed when entering all club buildings. It is the host’s responsibility to make sure guests playing at Idle Hour adhere to these rules.

GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE 1. Allow faster groups through when there is an open hole ahead of your group.

2. Rake all bunkers.

3. Replace and/or sand all divots.

4. Repair all ball marks.

5. Place trash in receptacles.

6. All play must start on hole #1. Cutting in on hole #10, or anywhere else, is prohibited unless directed by the pro shop.

7. Threesomes and foursomes have priority on the course.

PACE OF PLAY Four hours and fifteen minutes is considered the maximum playing time. Please be aware of this standard and keep play moving.

CLUB STORAGE AND RANGE PROGRAM All golfers are encouraged to keep their golf clubs at Idle Hour. The annual fee for storage, which includes driving range privileges, is $275.00 per bag. Clubs are cleaned every time they are used. Please inform the Pro if there are any problems with this service. Any player wishing not to store their clubs, but still wants use of the driving range, must register in the pro shop every time they practice. The fee for range balls is $7.50 per half-hour, or an annual range only fee of $150.00.

GOLF RULES The golf season at Idle Hour Country Club is May 1st to Labor Day. The following rules will be strictly enforced during the golf season.

1. Every player, regardless of the number of holes to be played, must register with the Pro Shop prior to play. All play must start at hole #1 unless otherwise directed by the professional staff. Immediately after completion of play, using the computer furnished in the Pro Shop, all players must record his or her score, or you may give your score card to one of the Golf Professionals, for the purpose of computing a handicap.

The Club uses the USGA Handicap System which requires scores be posted any time 14 or more holes are played.

2. Guests, not to exceed three in number, must play with or be accompanied by the host member, except as outlined below in Golf Rules #3. The host must play with or accompany his or her guests during the entire round.

3. Members may send a maximum number of eight guests to play golf at the Club unescorted. Exception to playing time is at the discretion of the

golf professional. Any one individual guest will be allowed to use the golf course no more than three times a month, not to exceed six times per year.

4. Carts will not be driven on tees, bunkers, greens, or other areas as directed. Carts are to be parked no closer than 30 feet from greens, bunkers and tees and never in front of a green. Whenever possible, all carts, including pull carts, should be parked behind the green or close to the next tee.

5. Slow play will not be tolerated. At all times, slower players must permit faster players to play through when the hole ahead is open. In the event of a lost ball, it is the privilege of the match following, no matter how composed, to pass. A lost ball is deemed to be a ball that is not found within a period of 3 minutes. Players being passed must stop play until the passing match is out of range.

6. Players shall repair and/or sand all divots taken on the fairways and ball marks on the greens. All bunkers must be raked after play and rakes placed in the bunkers.

7. Threesomes and foursomes have priority on the course at all times 8 8. Onesomes and Twosomes are not permitted to tee off prior to 2:00 PM on week ends and holidays during the golf season. Exceptions to this rule is at the discretion of the golf professional.

9. Matches composed of more than four players are not permitted on the course during the golf season.

10.Junior play at Idle Hour is encouraged. Junior golfers proficient in rules and etiquette may play without adult supervision. Other juniors must play with an adult. Exception to this rule is at the discretion of the golf professional.

11.Members shall not verbally reprimand young players, but instead report serious violations to the Chairman of the golf committee or to the Professional. It is not the intention of this rule to discourage young players but to encourage them to play with proper understanding of the game and concern for the condition of the course.

12.No bicycles, roller blades, skateboards, or motorbikes are allowed on the course.

13.No Personal coolers are permitted on the golf course.

14.Every player must have his or her own set of clubs.

15.The club, through the Pro Shop will furnish the members with rental powered carts. The Board of Governors shall fix the fees. The use of privately owned golf carts is not permitted.

16.The Golf Professional and his professional staff shall not give lessons on club property to any persons other than a member or the guest of a member.

17.Idle Hour is a soft spike facility.

18. the event of the occurrence of lightning or other dangerous conditions, or the sounding of the warning signal, all play must stop immediately and players should seek shelter.

19.Cell phone usage on the golf course is at the discretion of each foursome. It is the responsibility of members and guests to be considerate of all players on the golf course. The intent is to not disturb other members or guests or the pace of play.

20.The Golf Professional, the Chairman, and the Golf Committee are responsible for enforcing the above rules. Any flagrant disregard of the rules will be reported to the Board of Governors, which may suspend playing privileges.
