Environmental & Resource Science/ Studies (B.A. or B.Sc.) Scientific knowledge is essential to understanding our environment and to creating a sustainable future. So too is an awareness of the political and managerial dimensions of natural resource and environmental problems, international trends and agreements, and the options available to local communities. At Trent, you can choose to complete a B.A. or B.Sc. in the exciting field of Environmental and Resources Science/Studies. Why Trent? • Study in the first environmental science program to be accredited by Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) Canada • Design your own program according to your interests, choosing from one of the broadest ranges of environmental studies courses available in any Canadian university • Study in the field and in the laboratory with internationally recognized environmental scientists, or spend a year studying abroad in international research placements

Mathematics (B.Sc.) Mathematics is the exploration of abstract mental universes and the application of pure reason. More than simply the study of numbers, you will learn about the fundamental structure of the universe and the limits of human reason. Develop a new way of looking at the world around you by learning about the systems and structures that underpin all of nature. Why Trent? • Explore your interests in both pure and applied mathematics, and choose from a variety of streams in Mathematics and related disciplines, including a specialization in Mathematical Finance or Statistics • Learn in small groups working alongside faculty dedicated to challenging and strengthening your skills • Participate in summer research opportunities, or get involved with the Math Society of Trent (MASCOT) Career Paths: Economist / Rate Analyst / Financial Auditor / Account Executive Economic Advisor / Econometrician / Financial Analyst / Banker / Investor / Insurance Analyst / NGO / United Nations departments (e.g. UNDP, WHO) / World Bank / International Monetary Fund

Popular Courses: Calculus; Linear Algebra; Mathematical Reasoning; Number Theory; Voting, Bargaining and Social Choice; Mathematical Risk Management; Chaos, Symbolic Dynamics, Fractals trentu.ca/math Mathematical Computer Science (B.Sc.) Designing communication networks, encrypting data for internet transmission, or engineering revolutionary new software would not be possible without a solid understanding of mathematical computer science. Your studies will prepare you for the workplace or for graduate work in theoretical computer science, cryptography or applied discrete mathematics. Why Trent? • Take advantage of opportunities to participate in faculty research, or explore your own research interests fully supported academically by faculty • Develop a solid foundation for further education through graduate studies in M.Sc./Ph.D. • Benefit from small-group lab work that will complement theoretical studies Career Paths: Computer Game Design / Computer Graphics / Cryptanalyst / Cryptographer for government (e.g. intelligence agencies) or private sector (e.g. computer security consultant) / Network Communications / Research Scientist / Software Designer / Virtual Reality Popular Courses: Mathematical Logic; Discrete Structures; Mathematical Cryptography; Linear Programming; Computability; Comparative Programming Languages trentu.ca/math Mathematical Economics (B.Sc.) The study of Mathematical Economics helps us understand complex and ever-changing economic dilemmas by examining the production and dissemination of scarce resources. Combining core courses in economics with mathematics, you will learn how to analyze games of strategy, bargaining and auctions (game theory), how to make sense of complex economic data (econometrics), how to maximize profit and minimize costs (optimization) and how to maximize happiness (welfare economics).

Why Trent? • Challenge yourself with complex material delivered in small-group learning environments, offering support for your personal educational goals • Gain knowledge and skills ideal for graduate studies in Economics or for a career in government, banking, or industry • Get involved in summer research opportunities working alongside faculty dedicated to challenging and strengthening your skills Career Paths: Economist / Rate Analyst / Financial Auditor / Account Executive Economic Advisor / Econometrician / Financial Analyst / Banker / Investor / Insurance Analyst / NGO / United Nations departments (e.g. UNDP, WHO) / World Bank / International Monetary Fund Popular Courses: Statistics for Economics and Management; Mathematical Economics and Economics Models; Statistical Inference; Econometrics; Linear Programming trentu.ca/economics

Mathematical Physics (B.Sc.) An understanding of Mathematical Physics is essential to understanding many topics, from celestial mechanics to the issue of global climate change. Physics is the most fundamental of the natural sciences, and mathematics is the language of physics. This program develops, in parallel, experience with the central theoretical frameworks of physics and facility with the mathematical methods that form the foundation and tools of physics.

Physics (B.Sc.) Discoveries in physics and astronomy continue to broaden our understanding of the universe and advance space exploration, speed up communications, assist medical and environmental fields, and lead to new innovations such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and high-density computer memory. You will learn to bring abstract yet powerful concepts to life, ask important questions about the most basic particles and forces in nature, and apply what you learn to complex systems such as novel quantum materials and celestial bodies. Why Trent? • Learn through innovative and interactive teaching methods, studying in a constantly evolving environment with new techniques that faculty develop and incorporate into curriculum • Get involved in the leading-edge research of award-winning faculty, or explore your own research interests through independent research projects • Spend a year studying abroad
