The piece will be created specifically for the MassArt Art Museum (MAAM) space, in what will be Vasconcelos’ first solo exhibition in the United States. Part of the Valkyrie series, the piece was created to honour Elizabeth ‘Mumbet’ Freeman, an enslaved woman whose legal battle for freedom in 1781 helped outlaw slavery in the US state of Massachusetts. Titled ‘Valkyrie Mumbet’ (2020), the oversized piece, with a centre from which tentacle arms come out, will be suspended.

Michael Anastassiades: the Designer of the Year Michael Anastassiades launched his lighting brand in 2007 and presented it first-hand at Maison & Objet. In 2020, he comes back as Designer of the Year. In the last 13 years, he has become one of the most poetic and prolific lighting designers.
