This is the 14th event of Trenchless Middle East 2025 (TME) and is an ISTT supported event that is extremely important for the region. It will contain an exhibition of trenchless industry products and services in the exhibition hall and will also have a conference program where the stakeholders exhibiting can present their products and services to conference attendees. A number of training opportunities will also be presented at the event. The ISTT is keen to see the interest of trenchless technology in the region be further developed and will assist to promote the formation of an Affiliated Society in the Middle East. We know that trenchless technology will play a crucial role in the sustainable development of the Kingdom’s infrastructure development. Due to a rapid growth in population, waste water and sewerage networks and highly dense cities coupled with the development of several giga projects like Neom, King Abdullah economic city infrastructure development plan (KAEC) and wastewater treatment projects, the use of trenchless technology plays a vital role in the Kingdom’s infrastructure development and Vision 2030. Specialist training by JBP Training will offer professionals the opportunity to enhance their technical expertise and improve their practical skills, to be more effective when working with Trenchless technologies and methods. UHP technology by IMS group: Proven power and precision

hen conventional tools reach their limits, Ultra-High-Pressure (UHP) water technology from the IMS Group keeps working. From Stuttgart to Scotland: Proven in the Field During a major railway infrastructure project in southern Germany, two blocked DN 110 supply lines filled with concrete had to be cleared inside a 10 km tunnel between the city centre and the airport. Using the MICROpremium flex with the CLEANER UHP system, a specialized sewer cleaning team completed the job in 14 days instead of the expected 45. Three robots worked alternately to manage the extreme loads, delivering a fast and damage-free result. In Scotland, a national utility company faced a kilometre-long blockage in a trunk sewer where calcite and hazardous materials had solidified into a concrete-like mass. After traditional jetting and mechanical cutting failed, a UHP robotic cutter from the IMS Group – the first of its kind used in the UK – completed the cleaning in only three months. “This is a real game changer,” said a project manager from the Scottish contractor. “It allows us to remove stubborn deposits faster, safer, and with less environmental impact.” A new standard for concrete removal In the London area, a drainage service provider used an IMS Group UHP jetting system to save several residential properties from demolition. Foundation concrete had completely filled an 11 m sewer beneath the buildings. The system’s rotary-swivel arm, highresolution camera, and pneumatic traction system enabled precise control and rapid progress – up to eight times faster than conventional milling. Arizona State University: Global Leadership in Trenchless Research Dr. Samuel Ariaratnam is the Sunstate Chair of Construction Management & Engineering and a Professor at Arizona State University. With nearly three decades of leadership in trenchless pipeline engineering, his work has advanced both the academic and practical dimensions of underground infrastructure. He earned his B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1989 and completed his M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991 and 1994, respectively. Dr. Ariaratnam has authored over 350 technical publications and holds five patents related to trenchless technologies. His global impact has been recognised through his election to the Canadian Academy of Engineering (2018), the U.S. National Academy of Construction (2019), and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (2023). In 2022, he was named a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) the Society’s highest honor. His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the North American Trenchless Technology Person of the Year (2012), as well as prestigious ASCE honors such as the John O. Bickel Award, Arthur M. WellingtonPrize, Pipeline Division Award of Excellence, and the Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering Award. Dr. Ariaratnam has held major leadership roles in the field, serving as Chairman of the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT) from 2010 to 2013 and currently as President of the ASCE-UESI Board of Governors. In 2022, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to serve on the Gas Pipeline Advisory Committee (GPAC) for the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), shaping the future of pipeline safety policy in the United States.

Mr Faiz Ahmad - Sekisui Singapore Ltd. Mr Faiz Ahmad is a seasoned professional with 20 years of experience in business development, primarily within the infrastructure sector. Over the past decade, he has specialised in the trenchless pipeline rehabilitation, bringing extensive expertise to this critical area and has also driven growth and innovation. Currently, Faiz is associated with Sekisui Singapore, where he focuses on expanding the business across India and the Middle East markets. His extensive industry knowledge and strategic insight make him a key player in shaping sustainable solutions for the region’s infrastructure needs.
Dr. Dev Chelot - Head of Quality, R&D Channeline International Fiber Glass Manufacturing L.L.C Dr. Dev Chelot is the Head of Quality and R&D at Channeline in Dubai, since 2017. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration (specialised in finance and operations) from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai. He completed his doctorate in mechanical engineering from Birla Institute of Science and Technology, Dubai Campus. Dr. Dev specialises in hybrid composites, advanced composites, GRP, segmental GRP and nano composites. In 2021, he secured approvals for multi-segmental structural liners from various agencies, including the City of Los Angeles. In 2023, these liners were successfully utilised in a sewer rehabilitation project, marking a significant milestone for Channeline.
Alain Gebran - Area Manager, Vermeer Middle East FZCO Born in 1989, Alain Gebran earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Lebanese American University in Beirut. In 2012, he joined Vermeer Middle East FZCO in Dubai as a Sales Engineer to develop the KSA market for Vermeer Corporation, a leader in trenchless machinery, trenchers, surface miners, and recycling and agricultural equipment. Through field experience and training, Alain advanced to Area Manager, expanding his responsibilities across the GCC and Middle East, securing both private sales and public tenders. With nearly 15 years at Vermeer, he combines technical expertise with commercial acumen, contributing to sales strategy, business development, and customer relations. His role has been central in supporting clients and overcoming project challenges across the region.
Trevor Gosatti - Executive Director, ISTT As a civil contractor since 1983, Trevor Gosatti developed an interest in trenchless technologies in the mid 1990s using micro-tunnelling equipment. This interest expanded to pipe relining and he was a Director and Managing Director of an ASX listed company that was developing (and installing) pipe relining technologies from 2004 until 2014. Trevor was the Western Australian Councillor for the Australasian Society of Trenchless Technology (ASTT) from 2005 and is a past Chairman of the ASTT from 2009 to 2015. He became the ASTT Secretary/ Treasurer in May 2023. He was voted onto the ISTT Board in April 2017 and relinquished that role in March 2024 to become the ISTT Executive Director.

Mark Haebler - Director of Global Sales and Business Development, UHRIG Kanaltechnik GmbH Mark Haebler is an international expert in trenchless technology with more than 20 years of leadership experience in sales, business development, and sewer rehabilitation. He earned his MBA from a private University in Vienna in 2013 and has held senior positions across Austria and Germany. Since 2024, he has served as Director of Global Sales and Business Development at Uhrig Kanaltechnik GmbH, following roles as Head of International Sales and Deputy Head of the Sewer Department. Earlier in his career, he was a Member of the Board of Directors at Hermes Technologie GmbH, where he oversaw strategic growth and client relations. In addition, he founded up.ART.ig by ma|ma gmbh, a consultancy bridging trenchless business and cultural programs. Actively shaping industry standards, he is now Chair of the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT) and contributes to working groups of ÖGL (AATT) and ÖWAV in Austria.

David Henderson - Regional Head of Department (Pipeline Inspection and Rehabilitation), Applus David Henderson is a seasoned infrastructure professional with over 30 years of international experience in the surveying, design, inspection, and trenchless rehabilitation of underground utilities. Currently serving as Regional Head of Department at Applus, he leads operations across the GCC, Africa, and Southeast Asia, with a strong focus on No-Dig technologies and large-scale utility frameworks. In addition to his professional role, David is the Chairman of the Association for Trenchless Technology in the Middle East (ATTME) “www.attme.org” where he advocates for innovation, training, and collaboration across the regional trenchless technology sector. David has successfully delivered major sewer inspection and rehabilitation programs in the UAE, Qatar, India and Angola, managing multidisciplinary teams and driving innovation in trenchless methods. His career spans leadership roles across the UK, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific, including award-winning rehabilitation work in Central London and strategic project delivery for public authorities such as Ashghal and ADSSC.
Dorian Hunger - Managing Director, IBAK Helmut Hunger GmbH & Co. KG. Since 2020, Dorian Hunger has been the 3rd generation Managing Director of the German company IBAK Helmut Hunger GmbH & Co. KG. The company was founded in 1945 and, as a pioneer in the industry, is still the world’s leading company in the field of inspection and rehabilitation systems for pipelines and sewers. IBAK also develops software and AI applications for the control of systems as well as for the evaluation of inspection films, rehabilitation planning and management of municipal wastewater registers. After studying electrical engineering and information technology, Dorian gained a wide range of experience in industry. At IBAK, he combines tradition with innovation and in particular drives digitalisation, automation and sustainability in wastewater infrastructure. Dorian is also actively involved in various industry associations and initiatives to shape the future of municipal infrastructure.

Thomas Lengger - Head of Sales, IMS Group Thomas is a member of the executive board and Head of Sales at IMS Group in Germany. He has been active in the trenchless industry since 2011, with global responsibility for technical sales across a wide range of markets. Over the years, he’s had the opportunity to observe and work with many different approaches to sewer rehabilitation across various continents, each presenting its own unique challenges. Martin Lutze - Sales Director, BKP Berolina Polyester GmbH Since 2014, Martin Lutze has been part of the No-Dig industry. He first worked in sales for trenchless hardware such as UV curing technology and cutting robots, with projects spanning from Alaska to Australia. In 2020, he joined BKP Berolina, where he now serves as Sales Director, responsible for international sales. Together with his dedicated team, he manages BKP’s global market presence, an essential focus for the company as one of the most export-driven players in the industry.
Börje Persson - Managing Director, JBP Group of Companies Börje Persson, Swedish by birth, started working in the trenchless industry more than 30 years ago. He has been the Export Manager for BKP Berolina since 2004. BKP are a German-based CIPP producer of UV-cured GRP liners and have been one of the leading international suppliers of this technology since 1997. Börje graduated as a computer hardware engineer in 1981, shortly after beginning work in the thermoplastic industry while continuing studies in rubber and plastics at Lulea University, Sweden. In 1985, he began working on the technical development of the very first commercially produced UV-cured glass fibre reinforced liner for a Swedish-based company, where he remained as a technical director and shareholder until 1999. Since 2008, Börje has been the founder and major shareholder in a number of trenchless companies in Southeast Asia, including JBP Consultancy Services, Reline Asia (Malaysia), and BKP Berolina-Liner System (M) Sdn Bhd, who are the exclusive agents for the Berolina Liner system in Malaysia and other countries in the region. Börje was awarded an ISTT Fellowship in 2024 in recognition of his contribution and dedication to the trenchless sector and community.

Ian Ramsay – Director, IRR Trenchless Consultancy Ian has worked in the CIPP industry for over 20 years, both with lateral relining, mainline, lateral connections, patches and pressure pipes. Having graduated from the University of Newcastle in law and economics, Ian worked for Texon then Epros and then branched out into Asia. Working closely with the PUB in 2002-2006 over 150 km of lateral CIPP was specified and installed. This involved, setting design and onsite standards, looking at testing and developing the international testing and installation practises. Ian has worked around the world, including Brazil, USA, Australia, and South Africa on CIPP related projects, specifications and innovations, and in the USA sitting on international panels reviewing standards and CIPP practices. He also develops specialised CIPP courses and has presented in China, Canada, UK and Brazil and is currently working in Columbia with their large CIPP programs as well. Ian was the UKSTT Chair, and an ISTT fellow, running the technical committee. Ian is also a member of the USA’s ASTM technical committee for F1216.
Mohamed Shehata - Sales and Business Development MEA, Business Unit Utility Tunnelling, Herrenknecht GmbH Mohamed Shehata, born 1986 in Cairo. He completed his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2009 followed by an MBA Degree in 2016. In 2016, he joined Herrenknecht Utility Tunnelling as Business Development. Currently Mohamed is responsible for Sales and Business Development in Saudi Arabia for Herrenknecht Utility Tunnelling.
Suly Tang - Managing Director, LIYAN Technologies/Drillmaster Trenchless With 20 years experience in horizontal directional drilling (HDD), Suly has worked extensively in HDD engineering, construction, and trenchless solutions worldwide. From 2007 to 2013, he served as China representative for American Augers, contributing to major HDD projects in China and abroad. In 2014, he founded LIYAN Technologies, focusing on international HDD consultancy, engineering, and construction. Suly has led or supported numerous complex projects including HIBG (Bangladesh), TPLEP and NFPT (Thailand), Tilenga EPSCC (Uganda), EACOP (Tanzania), and BALG (Iran), specialising in longdistance, large-diameter crossings in challenging conditions, with some exceeding 4,000m. Under his leadership, LIYAN Technologies received the 2023 CSTT Project of the Year New Installation and the 2025 CAPEC Most Outstanding Project of the Year New Installation. An ISTT and NASTT International member, Suly also contributes to CSTT and CAPEC technical committees and serves on the editorial board of China Trenchless Technology magazine.

Michael Wong - Trenchless Operations and Overseas Business Director, Semantra and Microtunneling Technical Director, Pipesolution Inc. Mr. Michael Wong’s early exposure to trenchless started when he was 17 years old with Semantra (a family owned and operated company). He first learned about Horizontal Directional Drilling in 1997 gaining knowledge, operation and detection of horizontal directional drilling. After completing his Bachelor’s in 2002, Mr. Wong worked for Chicago construction company Teng and Associates in Chicago. After 10 years in Chicago, he decided to return to Malaysia in 2008 to assist in the family business. Mr. Wong started working as field engineer in Semantra No-Dig Engineering Sdn. Bhd. In order to have a better understanding about microtunneling and pipe jacking, he started to learn to operate microtunneling machines. After 5 years of operating microtunneling machines he managed various smaller microtunneling projects and was promoted to Microtunneling Project Manager. During tenure as Microtunneling Project Manager, he oversaw various microtunneling projects such as the sewerage network and pipeline relocations project. In 2018, they decided to expand the business to overseas markets including the Philippines, Australia and the Middle East. In 2021, he formed a partnership with Pipesolution Inc. in the Philippines and has since taken on various microtunneling trenchless pipe laying projects in the Philippines. To date, after 16 years in the trenchless pipelaying industry, Mr. Michael has overseen exceeding 100,000 meters of trenchless pipelaying in various countries and ground conditions. Mr. Michael is currently the Trenchless Operations and Overseas Business Director for Semantra and also Microtunneling Technical Director for Pipesolution Inc.
