02 weeks to go Keep packing Use as much frozen/perishable foods as possible Establish cut-off dates for all utilities Organise childcare and pets for the day of the move Notify your billing companies of your change of address Notify your insurance company of your change of address, and arrange insurance for your new home If you are having a garage sale - have it now
01 week to go All except essential items should now be packed Drain fuel from lawn mower and empty gas cylinder bottles if moving long distances Return any library books or movies/DVDs Use or dispose of any food items you will not be taking
01 day to go If you are having your belongings professionally packed, this service may start today Defrost your freezer, empty and clean out your fridge Do a last load of laundry Pack a “Survival Kit” for moving day - include first aid kit, wet weather gear, tape, keys, snacks, phone, etc Pack a box of essentials that you will need at your new home i.e. breakfast items, kettle, etc Keep bedding on hand for that first night’s rest
Moving day Ensure all keys are in a central location, and all utilities have been read and turned off Don’t forget to take your pegs off the clothesline Double check that every room is empty. Look up! Is there anything on top of the cupboards? If someone has a medical condition keep medication on hand Put out the garbage and recycling bins Check the mailbox one last time and say “Goodbye”
Welcome home Locate hospitals, doctors, police stations, veterinarians, etc in your new area Notify banks, health funds, rewards companies, creditors of your new details It’s time to celebrate - consider a house warming party for family and friends
