Faeries, Sprites, & Lights in Minnetrista
Faeries, Sprites, & Lights
Celebrates Summer, Imagination, and Mythical Creatures
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Elisabeth “Betty” Ball who lived in the Oakhurst Home on the grounds of what’s now Minnetrista Museum & Gardens in Muncie. She discovered faeries living among the trees and flowers. Wearing her own faerie attire, Betty played games, danced, and skipped through the grass with her magical friends. As a tribute to Betty and her unshakable belief in faeries, thousands of faeries fly into Oakhurst Gardens every July for the enchanted Faeries, Sprites, & Lights at Minnetrista.
Let your imagination play as Minnetrista’s Oakhurst Gardens are transformed into a sparkling wonderland where crafts, music, dancing, and colorful lights come together in a magical event for the whole family. During this multi-day event, children are encouraged to come dressed in their best magical faerie attire as they imagine and play in a magical faerie wonderland. Families can enjoy games, crafts, a theater show, live music and dancing, a bubble garden, and much more throughout their enchanted Oakhurst Gardens. Kids and families are also encouraged to interact with the live characters and participate in a Faerie House Workshop and enjoy some Faerie Tea.
This year they are adding a sensory friendly option on Sunday, July 31. The sensory friendly event is designed to welcome faerie friends with sensory sensitives or disabilities to the Oakhurst Gardens to experience the magic in a calmer and welcoming environment. Visitors can enjoy quiet music, an optional live theatre show and character interactions, or just take a stroll through the beautiful flowers and decorations.
Dates are July 28-30 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and July 31 from noon to 4 p.m. Cost is $12; members $10. Kids two and under are free. For more information go to minnetrista.net.
