Each year between June and November, Southern Right Whales migrate to South Africa's warm waters to mate and give birth Hermanus even has a whale crier, the only one in the world. This person monitors the whales and blows a horn to let visitors know where whales can be spotted along the coastline
This diverse city is a must-see during your visit to South Africa Cape Town's icon is Table Mountain, one of the seven natural wonders of the world The flat summit is often covered by its characteristic "tablecloth" of clouds, which inspired its name Hike to the top for spectacular views over the city, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach, or explore one of the white sandy beaches
In 1931, Addo Elephant National Park was home to just eleven elephants. Swap your car for a kayak and discover Tsitsikamma from the water! Paddle with a guide along the Storms River, beneath the suspension bridge and deeper into pristine nature. Further upriver, you'll switch from your kayak to a lilo (inflatable raft) - an unforgettable experience!
Head out to sea for an unforgettable whale watching tour! Board a catamaran and search for whales on the open Atlantic Ocean You're likely to encounter dolphins, seals, and seabirds too, and if you're lucky, you might even spot African penguins The tour typically lasts between 1 5 - 3 hours, depending on ocean conditions
Are you an early bird? Then go on safari at sunrise, when the animals are most active The guide will tell you all about the wildlife and knows the best spots to find them in their natural habitat. This tour takes about 2 hours and starts in the early morning
Would you prefer to explore Addo Elephant NP with a guide? Choose a morning safari in an open vehicle. The guide knows all the best spots and you're guaranteed to encounter wildlife. During your road trip, you have two culinary options. In your 4x4, you'll find all the cooking equipment you need. If you'd like to experiment with local ingredients, you can shop for groceries at various locations along the way You'll find our recommended supermarkets in the roadbook Prefer to go out for dinner? The roadbook also includes plenty of great restaurants, cafes, and bars where we've enjoyed delicious meals during our own road trip
Each evening, you'll spend the night at a campsite near your route, either in nature or along the coast, allowing you to fully unwind after a day full of adventures All campsites have electricity and sanitary facilities, and we've reserved your spot in advance, so you won't have to worry about that when you arrive.
The weather in South Africa during spring and autumn is pleasant and mild Average temperatures range between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius. Autumn begins in April, bringing mild temperatures and fewer tourists You might experience the occasional shower October marks springtime, with blooming flowers and nature turning green from the winter rains While rainfall can be sporadic, days are typically sunny and clear November sees the start of summer, with rising temperatures and more stable weather. Temperatures can climb high during the day but may cool down to around 14 degrees at night. Be prepared for these variations by packing appropriate clothing.

Each day, you'll be offered a route with multiple stops to choose from. You're free to decide what you'd like to do most and which route to take. The indicated time is driving time only, not accounting for how long you spend at each attraction Our activities are coordinated with our route, so you can create your own schedule depending on your preferences.
Even though you might want to stay in this beautiful country for months to explore it all, in just 11 days you'll already get a great first impression and will definitely be able to see the main attractions along the Garden Route. In total, you'll cover approximately 2200 km, averaging 200 to 300 km per day That might sound like a lot, but trust us, not a single kilometer of the entire route will be boring Driving in South Africa is beautiful
Each time, it will feel like you're driving through a new landscape From coastal routes to vineyards, and from vast grasslands with ostriches to off-road nature trails
You'll arrive at Cape Town airport in the early afternoon From here, you can collect your 4x4 from our partner, which you'll drive throughout your entire stay After a detailed briefing about the use of the vehicle and everything that comes with it, you can begin your road trip. On the first night, you'll park the car at your accommodation, allowing you to explore Cape Town's city center and recover from your journey
Today your road trip truly begins with the first kilometers planned If you'd like, you can start with a surf lesson in Muizenberg You'll drive a picturesque coastal route towards Hermanus We'll provide you with plenty of tips for the route, but make sure to stop at the Clarence Drive viewpoint for a breathtaking vista. If you didn't have time to visit Boulders Beach, you can make a stop at Betty's Bay, which is also home to a penguin colony
Today you'll wake up in South Africa. You'll spend another day in Cape Town, where there's plenty to see and do Tonight, you'll sleep at a campsite in Cape Town and spend your first night in the rooftop tent Before then, there's plenty of time to explore Cape Town. Go hiking on Lion's Head or Table Mountain, both offering spectacular views. Or visit the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or Boulders Beach to spot South Africa's famous penguins

The next stop is Addo Elephant National Park, home to various species of wildlife As the name suggests, more than 600 elephants live in this park You'll have the chance to observe them up close You'll stay near the park for two nights to discover it in all its glory. Choose to explore the park yourself in your 4x4 or book a safari excursion
After an unforgettable day in Addo Elephant National Park, you'll return to the coast and arrive in Jeffreys Bay This place, also known as J-Bay, is beloved and famous among surfers from around the world You'll immediately notice the relaxed atmosphere with its many cafes and surf shops Take a dip in the water, book a surf lesson, or grab a seat at one of the trendy cafes.
This day is dedicated to visiting Addo Elephant National Park and discovering its flora and fauna Explore the park by car and spot animals in their natural habitat, from vast grasslands to dense forests You're likely to spot elephants, zebras, and antelopes here. You'll also find the endangered dung beetle. If you're really lucky, you might encounter a lion, so always stay in your car
A new day dawns, perfect for an adventurous day at Tsitsikamma National Park With its 80-kilometer coastline, suspension bridges, and spectacular hiking trails, this park is a must-see on the Garden Route Cross the famous suspension bridge, hike one of the trails, or explore the Storms River during a canoe excursion. Don't forget to look around and try to spot wildlife in Tsitsikamma.
Day 9: tstisikamma - mossel bay Day 10: mossel bay - Franschhoek
Today, continue your journey to Mossel Bay, a drive of just over two hours with numerous beautiful stops along the way Make sure to stop at Knysna, where you'll have a spectacular view of the ocean Continue past Plettenberg Bay, where many seal colonies swim. The most beautiful view can be found at Robberg Nature Reserve. Afterwards, enjoy the view of the high waves at Mossel Bay
Day 11: franschhoek - airport
Today marks the end of your beautiful South African adventure Take your time waking up and enjoy your last breakfast in South Africa with a stunning view You'll drive back to Cape Town airport, where you'll return the car before your flight
