GETTING IN THE ZONE – PLATFORM ZONING IS NOW LIVE

New platform zoning technology has launched at some of our stations, to help make boarding our trains a safe and stress-free experience.

Platforms are now divided into zones, with customer information screens (CIS) showing which carriages are stopping in specific zones. The CIS will also show the facilities in the carriage, so customers can easily identify where to find bike spaces and first class carriages. Platform zoning also can improve the journey of those in wheelchairs, with carriages

with wheelchair access and accessible toilets clearly marked. Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Service and Operations Director, said: “Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and the introduction of platform zoning across all our ‘through stations’ means that customers will have a much simpler and stress-free experience when boarding our trains.” Platform zoning can also reduce delays, with customers encouraged to use the full-length platform, making boarding a speedier process.

September’s livestream will feature two of the Rail Wellbeing Live speakers: Buddhist Monk, Gelon Thubten, and Vanessa King from Action for Happiness, a charity that focusses on creating a happier world through bringing people together to learn evidence-based skills

In the livestream they’ll be discussing how science and ancient wisdom can help to increase happiness and wellbeing. They’ll also provide some insights and actions on how to create more happiness for yourself and those around you. The livestream is free to access at http://www.railwellbeinglive.co.uk/live-stream at 11:00 on Wednesday 6 September.

Wellbeing Wednesday is back for September and this month is something slightly different as we gear up for Rail Wellbeing Live 2023 in November.

Rail Wellbeing Live will be taking place on 7 to 9 November and we’ll share more details on the event and how to register over the next few weeks.

SAFEGUARDING ON OUR NETWORK

This week we have a few situations to share of colleagues helping to safeguard vulnerable people on our network:

On Saturday 20 August a male had locked himself in a cubicle in the men’s toilets at Scarborough station and called 999 asking for an ambulance. One of our colleagues asked if he could help the man, with the man saying he was waiting for an ambulance, the colleague then called 101 requesting a welfare check. Unfortunately, no one was able to assist and the man made his way onto platform 1, where the colleague thought he was going to get a train.

However, the man didn’t leave on a train and he told one of the station cleaners, Laura Healy, that he was going to take his life. Laura was able to get the man on a bench and helped him calm down, with her getting his name and to talk about how he was feeling. Colleagues called North Yorkshire Police so they could help with the situation. They were able to comfort the man and he ended up spending the night in hospital.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE!

We’re always receiving some amazing feedback about colleagues from customers and last week was no exception. Here’s some the comments

A couple of weeks ago we featured Simon Rashleigh and Joe Dobson’s pets Fred the dog and Ardwick the cockatiel. This week we have two more of their brilliant birds, Starburst the conure (left) and Apollo the plumhead parakeet (right).
