FIRST SERVICE CALLS AT NEW PLATFORM

Monday’s 05:21 TPE service to Liverpool Lime Street became the first passenger train to stop at the new Manchester-bound platform at Dore & Totley in almost 30 years.

The original island platform was demolished in 1985 and, since then, trains headed in both directions stopped at the one remaining platform.

TPE customer Andrew Dyson (pictured right) was the first person to get off onto the new platform, where colleagues from Northern handed out goody bags to thank passengers for their patience whilst major improvement works took place during the past nine days.

The new platform is part of the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade, a multi-million-pound project which removes bottlenecks and improves journeys between Manchester and Sheffield, with the old single-track section at Dore & Totley being one of those bottlenecks. In addition to the new platform at Dore & Totley (now Platform 1), the other platform (now Platform 2) has been extended to accommodate longer trains. The two platforms are linked by a new footbridge. This footbridge will be fully accessible once the lifts are put into use in early April.

Until that time, there is no step free access to Platform 1. Customers who need step free access will need to call Passenger Assist to arrange alternative transport.

A ROOM WITH A BREW: CDM TEAM CELEBRATES OPENING OF NEW BREAK ROOM

Last week, Customer Delivery Managers (CDMs) opened the doors to their new break room. Located on Platform 15 at Leeds Station, the room offers the CDM team a much-needed space to have a seat and a brew in between doing essential work, helping customers and keeping them on the move.

To celebrate, Senior CDM Timothy Hartley and Deputy Media Manager Elizabeth Williams organised a small get-together for the team, with lunch and members of the Major Projects team in attendance too. Feel free to knock and say hi whenever you’re travelling through Leeds!

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS IN THIS YEAR’S BTP RAIL STAFF SURVEY

This year’s British Transport Police (BTP) annual Rail Staff Survey has just launched and we’re encouraging colleagues to share your thoughts.

BTP is committed to keeping rail staff safe and secure whilst working on the railway and this is your opportunity to have your say about what they could do better and how safe you feel when you come to work.

Responses to this survey are completely anonymous. It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete the survey and you can share your thoughts here

CYCLE SCHEME INCREASED TO INCLUDE E-BIKES

We’re excited to announce our cycle to work scheme has been reviewed – and there is no longer a limit on the bike packages available.

Our previous spend ceiling of £2,000 has been removed to allow for the inclusion of more premium options such as e-bikes.

Through Cyclescheme, you can save up to 42 per cent on new cycling gear, and spread the cost of a new bike and accessories. You pay nothing upfront and payments are taken tax efficiently from your salary.

To take advantage of the scheme, visit cyclesheme.co.uk and enter TransPennine Express’s unique code: b110c1d to make an application. The quick links below can provide further information on the process, payment plan, and benefits:

TPE COLLEAGUES ATTEND PRESTON CAREERS FAIR TO INSPIRE NEXT GENERATION OF RAILWAY PROFESSIONALS

Last week, colleagues attended the North West Apprenticeship and Careers Expo to inspire the next generation of railway professionals. Taking place at Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre in Preston on Wednesday 20 March, over 3,000 people were in attendance, from young people, carers, teachers, careers advisors, and more.

Our colleagues Lisa Yemm, Victoria Trieber, Ben Dixon and Sam Gillespie were at the event, promoting careers and apprenticeships with TPE and PlaneBEE Rail. There was lots of engagement with students on what was a long, but successful day. Well done to everyone involved!
