MAJOR UPGRADE WORKS ARE UNDER WAY IN HUDDERSFIELD, DEWSBURY, AND MORLEY

Over the past few days, engineering work has started at Huddersfield, Dewsbury, and around Morley as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU).

On Saturday and Sunday (17 and 18 February), on the first of four consecutive weekend closures at Huddersfield Station, engineers completed planned canopy bracing and under-track crossing works.

TPE interface managers, safety validation and the station team were all on site and worked together to ensure works were completed on time and in a safe environment.

The work at Huddersfield plays an important part in the makeover of the 176-year-old station that will be happening in the coming years, which will see longer platforms, a new footbridge, improved accessibility, and the restoration of the train shed roof - one of the few remaining ‘Euston roofs’ on today’s rail network.

On Monday, work continued in the Morley area, where engineers are installing track drainage systems and performing work on the platforms at Morley station. This work takes us one step closer to an upgraded and fully accessible station at Morley station, a key objective of TRU. Engineers are also installing a new telecommunications mast at Dewsbury this week, which will enable future signalling system improvements. The work at Dewsbury and Morley is scheduled to be completed on Friday 23 February.

GOOD LUCK AT THE RAIL BUSINESS AWARDS

Good luck to our colleagues who are attending tonight’s Rail Business Awards.

Big congratulations to Ian Watson (Driver Manager), who has been shortlisted for the Wellbeing in Rail award. This recognises the amazing work he’s done to challenge mental health stigma and raise awareness of mental health support amongst colleagues.

The steps we’ve taken to make our network more accessible and inclusive for customers has also been recognised, with our work shortlisted for the Accessibility & Integrated Excellence award. In the past year, we’ve completed several projects to improve the accessibility of our stations including virtual station tours, British Sign Language departure boards, and the introduction of accessible seating.

Good luck to everyone tonight and look out for next week’s edition of Together Weekly to find out how we did.

There’s something for everyone on board our trains as our new Surprise and Delight initiative shows.

This week, TPE branded pop-up pet bowls were handed out to customers and their furry friends to mark national Love Your Pet Day. And to celebrate half-term, we’ve been handing out gift bags to children travelling onboard our trains, which include fruit, activity work sheets and a small soft toy.

The Surprise and Delight initiative comes as part of our plan to rebuild our relationship with customers. Last week, colleagues were out and about on the network handing out TPE branded pancake mix to customers for Pancake Day and handcrafted roses on Valentine’s Day.

We will be running more events like this throughout March, so if you’d like to get involved, please keep an eye out in future comms for further details.

TPE COLLEAGUE COMPLETES 12-HOUR GRUELLING HYROX-A-THON IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL FOUNDATION MYSTERIOUS MINDS

Congratulations to our colleague Christian Scott, who has recently completed a 12-hour Hyrox-a-thon to raise money for Mysterious Minds, a local foundation supporting families who have lost a loved one through suicide.

Christian, who is a driver at Hull, took part in the event at his local gym last Saturday (17 February) and completed 12 hours of non-stop exercise.

Hyrox is a fitness competition designed for athletes of all levels, combining elements of both endurance and strength training in a race format.

It consists of eight 1km runs and in between each set, a functional fitness exercise such as rowing, sled push/pull, walking lunges and more. Christian completed almost five full Hyrox sets over the course of a gruelling 12 hours –congratulations!

GOING THE EXTRA MILE!

On Thursday 14 March, Keiron Riley (Customer Ambassador and Events Manager) will be taking part in the #BigStationSleepOut at Leeds station to raise awareness and funds for Railway Children.

Joining industry colleagues and friends from Northern, Keiron is the TPE representative of team #TRUlyTired and will be sleeping out on the cold railway station floor to raise vital funds that allows Railway Children to support vulnerable and disadvantaged children alone and at risk on the streets and at transport hubs.

If you are able to, you can donate here to help Keiron and colleagues smash their target. More information about the #BigStationSleepOut can be found on Railway Children’s website

Every week we receive comments about our amazing colleagues. Here’s just a few that were sent in last week:
