AN ARTISTIC JOURNEY OF HULL
This year marks 175 years since the opening of Hull station and to celebrate, we have commissioned a special mural. The artwork will be created by Andy Pea, an artist with more than 25 years experience, and aims to celebrate the city’s rich culture and history.
Andy said: “The design of this public art piece was born from a process of consultation and collaboration. I have engaged with students from Ron Dearing UTC and the public to create what I hope will be a fitting homage to the rich history of Hull. “The ‘Creation of Hull’ artwork aims to enrich the urban landscape, proving that when a community comes together to create, the city flourishes as a canvas for collective expression.”
The mural will be made up of five chapters, each on one wall and the ceiling of the Ferensway. Ideas for the mural have come from students from
Ron Daring UTC, users of the station, and the wider public. The chapters are:
• East wall: A tribute to Hull's connection to the sea and its rich maritime heritage
• South wall: Framed by the Humber Bridge against the backdrop of the estuary, bringing together the themes of trade and nature
• West wall: A tribute to the vibrant life of Paragon station, a celebrating the journeys embarked upon and human experiences
• North wall: Representing Hull's legacy of innovation, through a woven tapestry of inspiration, celebrating the city's trailblazers
• Ceiling: An imaginative reinterpretation of Michelangelo's iconic masterpiece 'The Creation of Adam' Installation has started on the south wall, with the full mural expected to be complete in October.
