COMING TOGETHER TO NORMALISE MENOPAUSE To mark Menopause Awareness Day, colleagues came together yesterday to sit down and talk about menopause - helping to reduce the stigma around talking about menopause and turn it into a natural conversation. Menopause cafés were held at locations across our network, including in Sheffield, Hull, Huddersfield and Middlesbrough, hosted by our Occupational Health Team and Menopause Ambassadors. MAKING JOURNEYS BETTER: OUR PLAN FOR THE FUTURE This week we’re pleased to have released a detailed plan which outlines the steps we’re taking to not only make journeys better for customers, but also how we’re making TPE a better place to work. ‘Making Journeys Better: Our Plan for the Future gives clear details of the issues we have faced during the past two years, as well as outlining how we, under DOHL, are working to make things better, having completed an in-depth review of the business. If you’d like to learn more about our plans, a special copy of the document has been created for colleagues and distributed to depots and offices across the network (an electronic version is here). Last week’s overall performance was down on the previous week however we have experienced a drop in the number of cancellations. Train crew availability is still impacting performance along with an increase in fleet related incidents.
ENCOURAGING IMPORTANT CONVERSATIONS FOR WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY Last week we marked World Mental Health Day with a number of ‘Tea and Talk’ events across the network. The events aimed to encourage important conversations about mental health.

The Occupational Health Team set out to get as many people involved in Tea and Talk as possible, and there was a great turnout. Colleagues in Middlesbrough, Huddersfield, Saltburn and York held Tea and Talk events and colleagues at Bridgewater House hosted a bake sale and raised £210 for the Samaritans.
We also received so many amazing photo entries into our Tea and Talk photo competition and it was certainly a tough choice deciding the winners! We are pleased to announce that the winners are: Mark Lamb, Tony Greenwood & Charlotte Swann Thanks to all who helped raise awareness for such an important topic. We hope lots of you carry on having those tea and talks, encouraging those important conversations, not just on World Mental Health Day, but all year around.
WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY CORNER Welcome to Community Corner, a little slice of Together Weekly that I’ve seized to share some of the good stuff that’s going on across our network to support our communities. If you haven’t come across me before, my name is Dan Fox, our Community Manager. First of all I’d like to give a nod to the team at Huddersfield Station. Train stations play an important role in society, a meeting place at the centre of town, so inevitably local causes and organisations are always asking for permission to display posters and share information at the station. Huddersfield have come up with a novel way of supporting this by putting up a community notice board, where people can place their posters, and then the station team decide together whether it aligns with their vision and if the poster gets to remain, although they are attributing this decision-making process to Felix and Bolt! It’s an interesting take on how we can offer support to local causes, and it will be great to see how it’s used going forwards.
CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
As we continue to celebrate Black History Month this week we wanted to highlight another black railway pioneer, Wilston Samuel Jackson. Wilston was Britain’s first black train driver. He emigrated from Jamaica in 1951 when he was 24 years old, becoming a driver in 1961. Throughout his career he drove some iconic trains including the Flying Scotsman, the Mallard, and The Elizabethan, transporting the Queen across the country.
The other thing I wanted to touch on this time around is to reiterate the request that we are looking for Champions to help us drive our sustainability operations, and in return you will receive support and training to help us make TPE a better place to work.
