The case for Smart Fault Isolation Devices THE PROBLEM

THE SOLUTION

Conventional Expulsion Drop Out Fuses cannot distinguish between transient and permanent faults. If a single EDO fuse blows under a transient fault, it often causes unnecessary long outage before it can be replaced because a crew must investigate and locate a ‘permanent’ fault (which does not exist). EDO fuse operations and failures can produce arcing and cause fires, stress other hardware on the line, create safety issues, and result in costly repairs.

A Fault Isolation Device (FID) is a reusable electronic device, not a single-use thermal fuse. It clearly distinguishes between transient and permanent faults and operates only on permanent faults, saving time and resources on fault identification. FID fuses are activated electronically, and do not produce arcing. When the FID detects a permanent fault it operates all 3 FID fuses automatically and instantly notifies the network owner. FID fuses do not cause unnecessary stress on other hardware on that line.

LEVELLING UP THE FID A Smart FID System enhances a standard FID to work as a Sectionaliser in conjunction with upstream reclosing services. This system gives even more versatility for applications where automation is beneficial.

This stand off set contains 3x25mm and 3x50mm long extensions and is used when the earth link is inserted into DIN fuse carriers that are deeply recessed. The stand off allows the earthing harness to suspend nicely without any undue pressure on the earth harness lugs or fuse carrier. Removing this pressure prevents potential damage to both the earth harness lug and fuse carrier. They are used in conjunction with the 1115281041T LV Din Earthing Sets.
