INATIONS RM

In 2013 TE Connectivity NZ identified a need for installers to be given recognised certification enabling utilities to have confidence in their abilities to install Raychem Cable Accessories correctly. With this, the TE CIC was introduced. CIC or Certified Installer Certificate is a card issued to installers that have passed a TE certification process based around product categories and voltage classes. Installers are assessed in a classroom situation for each voltage and product classification and certification is recorded on the back of the card showing all competencies.

yr

www.transnet.co.nz

TOOLBOX APP To complement the CIC TE developed the TE Toolbox App. This app allows installers to scan the product being installed which records important data such as name of installer, product being installed, date and GPS location of the installation site. If required, TE can then confirm with the utility that the installer has infact been certified to install the product.

TRACK EVERY INSTALLATION

It also works the other way, the installer has a quick easy diary of installation history, they’re also able to use the CIC as part of their CV, showing potential employers what voltage classes and product categories they are certified by Raychem to install. This can all be done quickly and easily with the installer card carried by the installer. The installer/employer/utility can obtain a record of all products installed including • Who installed them • Where they are installed • The types of cable accessories installed • When products were installed This information can help with • Maintenance and asset management • Installers can keep record of installation types and times • Location of similar products can be easily identified (eg; fault situation, other similar installations can be checked)

SMALL CHANGES MAKING A BIG IMPACT

we’re Carbon Neutral And we’re helping you reduce your footprint too With increased awareness of our role in maintaining the environment both globally and here in New Zealand, TransNet made the decision to embark on a sustainability journey to minimise the environmental impact of the business. This began with achieving ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and ISO 14064-1 for GHG emission quantification reporting, and Carbon Neutrality quickly became the next goal.

For us, it’s about making a difference for future generations. Helping the planet heal and regenerate while ensuring our product quality and service levels aren’t compromised.

We belong to a small but growing group of Kiwi businesses who are proud to be Carbon Neutral. You should join us.

By eliminating unnecessary packaging we all win! Our customers receive less waste to dispose of, saving money & improving their own carbon footprint. If your company wants to be more sustainable why not let us do the hard work for you?

A direct result of consolidating shipments to reduce freight emissions is an increase in our stock holding. Thanks to this we’re even better equipped to supply our customers quickly.

By partnering with environmentally responsible companies we’re able to approve the entire manufacturing chain – from raw material to finished product! And our customers’ own sustainability initiatives benefit from the work we’ve done!

Our carbon credits are helping fund a hydro generation project, reducing greenhouse gases while providing additional social and community benefits, and we also have a 150 hectare carbon sucking pine forest in Hunua!

Your Partners in Power We identified early that a holistic approach was required on our Carbon Neutral mission and our team immediately embraced this across all four TransNet sites. Some even compete to come up with new and innovative improvements! Annual audits require the business to reduce emissions each year and the whole team is tasked with implementing initiatives to meet the goals. Our purpose-built facility in East Tamaki includes energy efficient LED lighting with motion and light sensors throughout. The site layout makes the most of the sun to reduce the need for air conditioning and heating. Up to 35,000L of rainwater is collected from the roof and stored for watering gardens, washing vehicles, and flushing toilets. One of the most exciting elements is a 544-panel on-site solar farm. It consistently produces more than 100% of the energy required to power our head office and main distribution warehouse, with the remainder sent back to the grid. It could even be powering your home! A smart battery storage system and smart charging schedules use this

energy efficiently both during the day and overnight, powering our electric fork hoists & wave pickers. Electric Vehicles are being added to the fleet as vehicles are due for replacement and powered by the on-site solar farm, further reducing the company’s carbon footprint. Choosing the most appropriate EV for the user has meant a seamless changeover from ICE vehicles. Our supply chain has been audited and upgraded, consolidating shipping, spreading orders, and increasing stock holding to reduce the need for air freight. Reducing packaging where possible or switching to greener options has had positive flow-on effects: reduced overall waste at the distribution centre and for customers, as well as a noticeable increase in the percentage of excess packaging being recycled. Having always recycled cardboard, plastic, and metal we added pallets, polystyrene, batteries, and food scraps to the programme. This had an immediate impact, reducing landfill waste by 2/3. In addition, 3m3 of soft plastics is taken a short distance

Leading Sprinkler System NZS4541:2013 Extra High Hazard

The final piece to this Carbon Neutral puzzle was to purchase verified carbon credits to offset the remaining emissions we are currently unable to reduce. This was an important ethical choice and, being part of the electricity industry, supporting projects in the industry was the ultimate aim. After some research a hydroelectric power station project in a developing nation was chosen. In addition TransNet chaperones a 150 hectare carbon sucking pine forest not far from the Auckland head office. This forest is breathing fresh air back into the atmosphere. TransNet has been proudly carbon neutral since 2019.
