FROM THE DESK OF YOUR PRESIDENT

Anthony J. Delmonte, Jr. I write to you a week removed from the senseless tragedy that befell our community on May 14th. Throughout the week I have heard stories of how various people were connected, both directly and indirectly to someone involved on that fateful day. As the days continue to pass, I am sure all of us will hear similar stories. The outpouring of support for the Jefferson Avenue community has been truly amazing. Candidly, I am not surprised. This community continually rises to the occasion in the face of adversity and heartache. I am proud to be a Western New Yorker and am confident we will come out of this time stronger and more unified. Please join me in keeping the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers. We at Transit Valley are very fortunate to partake in our club, especially since May brought the official start of the golf season at TVCC. It is always an exciting time at the club and this year is no exception. The club is buzzing with activity; the tee sheet is full; the dining room and patio are bustling. In addition to all the familiar faces, I am seeing many new ones. This is the first time in quite a while we have had such an influx of new members. Welcome to all our new members. We have great momentum going into this year. I want to thank Tina, Brandon, Joe and the entire clubhouse team for getting us ready for the season. Adam and his team have done a fantastic job getting the course into shape. The straightening and widening of the fairways have brought our golf course up to date with current trends. It has improved the visual appeal to the course. By now, you should have received the email containing the video about the proposed irrigation system. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Greens Chairman, Geoff Burker or myself. I want to thank Adam for starring in the video and Alexa for filming it and putting it together. Some of you may not know, but Alexa has been using her limitless creative talent putting our newsletter together the past few months. She does a fantastic job, and we are lucky to have her on our team. A special thank you also goes to Bob Carr for his valuable input and advice.

FROM THE DESK OF THE GENERAL MANAGER & MEMBERSHIP SERVICES DIRECTOR

Tina Gutekunst

Saturday, June 25.

As I write this article, it’s 81 degrees and just a beautiful day. Today, we started to prepare the opening of the pool and tennis complex for Memorial Day weekend which was a huge success! Joe, Matt, and Angela and their staff were extra busy trying to clean all the debris from the winter out of the pool, tennis courts and kids’ club area. They actually picked up six big garbage bags of pinecones which was a chore in itself! All the windscreens, deck furniture and umbrellas are in place. Based on comments from our member survey, we did order more umbrellas to increase the shade at the pool and will be focusing on cleanliness in this area. New programing includes an Adult Pickleball Invitational and Men’s Interclub Tennis Tournament, Water Aerobics and back by popular demand “Rise & Grind”. For the kids, Sundaes & Bingo on every Thursday in July! If you haven’t had a chance to sign the kids’ up for summer programs, there is still time, deadline date to complete your registration forms is

Ronnie at the Halfway House has started building her “team” for the summer. As always, she has put together another outstanding and delicious new summer menu. Ronnie has also reported that the soft serve ice cream machine is up in running! As a reminder, and new this year, we have removed the Halfway House menu signs from the course. The menu will be located at the bathrooms on #6 and #13 and orders can be placed by using the grab-n-go- feature on our TVCC App or call the Halfway House at (716)689-9677. In the Clubhouse, Chef Dan, Brandon, and Joe are busy working on our summer menu, new wine list, and specialty craft cocktails. Looks like the menus will be ready mid-June! Incidentally, the family Easter Egg Hunt and Palm Sunday Brunch, Easter Sunday and Mother’s Day were a huge success, we received so many compliments. It was nice to see so many families enjoying time together. We recently completed our Kickoff to Summer Staff Meetings. I am happy to report that over 160 staff members attended, and I must say, we have a remarkable team in place for 2022. I looked around the room and thought to myself “how fortunate are we to have such a dedicated and loyal staff.” The main topic of discussion was improving your experience, especially service in all departments. We developed five core values consisting of Community, Teamwork, Family, Pride and Fun. We will be placing plaques listing these values in various locations around the club to remind the staff of our focus and vision. We also watched a video which told the staff of the difference between service and hospitality. There is a misconception that service and hospitality are the same, they are not interchangeable and very different. Service is when someone does something to you. Hospitality is when you think of the other person, not yourself, and make them feel different, in essence, changing how they feel. We would like all of our team members to become “Hospitalians” and will be working on this throughout the year. Some members have approached me asking why does it sometimes take an hour to be served their meals and that our new kitchen was going to rectify this problem. Please know that we are still experiencing some staff shortages, especially in the Culinary Department. We are hoping that that this will be resolved soon and appreciate your patience and understanding. Lastly, Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children. On behalf of our entire staff, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there - wishes you a day filled with joy! Recently, Kathy Cahill, one of our longtime servers lost her husband and Chef Dan King lost his mother. Kathy and Dan, our entire staff, and membership are saddened by the passing of your loved ones. May you find peace in the many memories that you cherish.

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS Last month, I also talked about “what makes TVCC unique.” I recently

received an email from a member’s daughter. She sent me this picture which was a homework assignment that asked her daughter to list five things she loves about herself and one of those things was Kids’ Club at TVCC. This is just another reason why we are considered the #1 family centric club in WNY and “your home away from home.”

Bocce

We will be adding a bocce court near the lower recreational zone. Stop by the pool office or club office to pick up your bocce sets!

A Message from our Assistant General Manager Brandon Sears The team is working diligently to get the pool facilities ready for what is sure to be a busy summer season. The food and beverage team are finalizing our summer events, dinner, wine, and cocktail menus. We are ready for an exciting summer here at TVCC! Below are some updates throughout the various departments at the club. Food & Beverage Starting Sunday, June 5th we will be introducing Grill & Chill. Join us on the patio featuring a varying grill station, summer fare and cold cocktails. As always, reservations are highly encouraged. Back by popular demand is Bocce, Blues, Boil, & Brews, planned for Saturday, June 11th, be sure to sign up your team today! Our first tee wine dinner on Wednesday, July13th, only has a few spots left, make your reservations through the club office for a night of dinner and great wine on the first tee! As mentioned last month over 90% of our staff from last summer will be returning for another summer here at TVCC, as you see them around the clubhouse, you may recognize some familiar faces. We look forward to a great summer and hope you, and your families, will enjoy every moment! Cheers!

A Message from the Greens Superintendent Adam Mis As we move into our summer golf schedule, we have been working hard to complete our projects on the course. We finished building new tees at #2 and #17 to give the forward tee positions not only more tee space but also provide the proper distance on #17 per the architect. We also spent time cleaning out years of leaves collecting in the ponds. We made a first run-on removal, but we still have more to do. There was a high volume of leaves in the ponds. When the leaves sit in the pond they start to decay, and as the temperatures warm up the bacteria rises to the surface and the ponds can smell of rotten eggs or sulfur. They also provide an excess of nutrients. As they break down, they can cause algae blooms. We will continue to keep cleaning, putting our beneficial enzymes, and pond dye, to help keep plants and algae from growing in the ponds. As of now, I hope you have seen my irrigation video and attended the information meeting. The board is working on the most efficient option for funding and implementation to getting this critical infrastructure project approved. We are excited about the project and moving Transit Valley into the next millennium with a state-of-the-art irrigation system that will benefit the course for half a century.

Congratulations!

May Employee of the Month - Peter Leising Peter is third generation golf course maintenance. His grandfather was the long-time Superintendent at Country Club of Buffalo. He began his career in High School at Brookfield CC, Monroe Golf Club, and Audubon Golf Course. He left the industry for a while to pursue sales. He is back and has been a great addition to the Transit Valley team.

Members are encouraged to consider common sense when making casual-attire decisions. We prefer our members dress-up rather than dress-down when visiting the Club. While we expect that members will use good taste and judgment, the Board has directed Club Management to discreetly review any inappropriate casual attire decisions directly with the member to ensure that the Club maintains a casual environment that is enjoyable for everyone.
