FROM THE DESK OF YOUR PRESIDENT

Anthony J. Delmonte, Jr. Dear Members I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather we have been experiencing lately which helps to increase participation in all areas of the club. My message this month focuses on some important updates. Despite being in the middle of “club season” Pat Clabeaux and the search committee received five resumes in the last two months. Pat and Eric Balsom conducted a screening interview with one candidate and are bringing him in front of the full committee. We continue to keep the job posting open and will entertain candidates as dictated by their qualifications. Our goal is to continue the search on our own through the summer. If we are not successful finding a qualified candidate, we may engage a firm to assist us. The informational meeting for the irrigation project was held on June 1 st . The meeting was very well attended and feedback since the meeting has been very positive. The presentation from the meeting was emailed to each member. I hope you had a chance to read it. By the time you read this message, we will have held the membership meeting to vote on the project. The board is confident the resolutions will pass, and we appreciate all of your support. I want to thank Jon Sinatra for his work on the financial proposals, Bob Carr for his assistance with the presentation for the meeting and Gary Schober for helping with preparing the documents for the meeting. Tina, and the entire board, put in many hours of preparation as well. I cannot thank them enough. The irrigation project brings with it the opportunity to not only replace our aging system but create a capital funding philosophy to build up capital reserves to maintain and improve the club assets into the future. Our club is enjoying strong momentum. Membership counts are at levels not seen in a long time, the bar and restaurant are busy, and the golf course is seeing elevated rounds. Which brings me to my last topic, pace of play. I want to thank all of you for the heightened awareness regarding pace of play this year. Your efforts to complete your round in under 4:10 have not gone unnoticed; Thank You! We have also encouraged our early groups that tee off in the first 90 minutes to finish in under 4 hours, as they set the tone for the entire day. Many thanks to our golf staff for helping to keep all of us aware, and for their communication and reminders out on the golf course. As we work to improve the totality of our pace of play culture, please continue to do your part in helping to create the most enjoyable golf experience possible for our entire membership. Looking forward to seeing you during the upcoming holiday weekend!

Summer is officially here, and we are so excited to see all of our families back at TVCC! As I write this article, the kids’ programs officially started, and it was an AWESOME day! I made my morning rounds and was greeted by all the kids taking their lessons for junior golf, tennis, and swimming and participating kids’ club. I love it, and it makes my day, when they say, “Hi Miss Tina”, my challenge now is trying to remember all their names!!! The word from all the parents was that it was a great day. Special thanks to Coach Matt, Joe, and Angela for all your hard work in preparing for this very busy season. We recently received information that one of our local clubs had two thefts occur at their club: one in the men’s locker room and one in their parking lot. The thefts were carried out by different individuals. These individuals have been identified, one of the suspects has been apprehended. We understand that they are part of a group that has been targeting country clubs throughout the northeast. As a reminder, please make sure that you lock your cars and lockers and report to any staff member if you see any suspicious activity or individuals while on club property. Our maintenance department along with Adam’s crew have been very busy putting the finishing touches on areas around the building – the bag drop, bridge by the lower tennis courts, and railings under the portico have all been painted. Kodiak and Cindy have been planting all the beautiful flowers and mulching all the beds. I think you will agree that the grounds never looked so go. Now comes the challenge of watering, which is a task in itself. Next on our agenda is preparing for the 4th of July! Be on the lookout for an email that will provide information on the Fireworks’ Display, details on the planned activities and hours of operation for the pool, halfway house and clubhouse. We are anticipating a large number of members with their families and guests, so we have added additional parking lot attendants to assist you with parking and execute this very busy day. Attendants will be available from 10:30 a.m. until the last car leaves the lot. As a reminder, due to the holiday, the kids’ programs, as well as adult water aerobics that are normally scheduled for Mondays are cancelled. Tuesday, July 5

Kids’ programs and Rise & Grid will be held as planned. The pool will be open from 12 noon until 4 p.m. The Halfway House will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Due to maintenance needs, the golf course will open at 12:00 noon. The clubhouse will be closed, but the locker rooms will be available.

Planning is underway for our next big event - Summer Bash – Hot Summer Night – Saturday, July 30 – this will be the event of the summer and you won’t want to miss it! Please consider making your reservations now! On behalf of our staff, wishing you a wonderful time with your family and friends – Happy 4th! We’re off to a great start with our 2022 recreational programs at Transit Valley. Both our junior and adult tennis and pickleball programming has been very well attended. In addition, our junior basketball clinic has more participants than last year. Let’s hope the weather remains nice allowing members to use the recreational facilities.

JUNIOR PROGRAMS

The Junior Tennis Clinics are always popular with the kids. We currently have 68 kids signed up to participate in these Tuesday and/or Thursday classes. These clinics emphasize learning the game of tennis in a fun environment.

Congratulations! TVCC’s own Assistant Tennis Pro, Adam Pasierb, received a college scholarship at Daemen College to play tennis.

Both the Junior Pickleball and Junior Basketball programs have had a terrific turnout. These Monday morning activities are a wonderful way for the kids to start the week off right. If competitive tennis is more “your speed” have your kids join our Junior Interclub Tennis Team. The emphasis in this program is learning the game in a fun environment while competing against other clubs. We focus more on sportsmanship than anything else.

ADULT PROGRAMS

This year, we tried to add more adult tennis and pickleball programming for members. Our popular Wednesday Night Adult Tennis / Pickleball is “off and running.” Enjoy an evening of fun tennis or pickleball with your friends. This program runs from 6-7:30 PM every Wednesday. The Wednesday Morning Adult Tennis Drill Clinic with Chloe has also started with great success. Work on your tennis game with a variety of drills and games with our Assistant Tennis Pro Chloe Esch. This program runs every Wednesday from 10:00AM – 11:00AM. New this year is the addition of a Pickleball Invitational on Tuesday, August 9th from 6:00PM - 8:00PM. This will surely be an exciting event. Call Matt in the tennis office to make your reservation. July

RECREATION & POOL On Thursday, August 4th, we are trying to restart a Men’s Interclub Tennis Program. Transit Valley will host the initial event on this date from 6:00PM - 7:30PM. This is a more competitive tennis program allowing the gentlemen to play some spirited tennis. Once again, call Matt to make a reservation at 716-688-5857 or email matt@transitvalley.com. Summers in Western New York tend to be short. We would love for you to take part in the recreational programs Transit Valley has to offer.

Whether this is your child’s first lesson, or they are a competitive swimmer, looking for a little fitness or private lesson let Transit Valley be your summer destination. As of now, the Country Club Swim Championships which are traditionally held at Brookfield Country Club on the first Monday in August will be on Tuesday, August 2. Swim team parents please keep that date on your calendar open so we can have as many events filled as possible. REMINDER Tables and lounges will be on a first come first serve basis. With that being said, please be courteous and considerate of others when taking towels and selecting your seats. Please return used towels to the bin behind the women’s locker room door. A Message from the Women’s Committee Patricia Clabeaux

President

Although Spring started a bit rainy and temperatures under average, the club has been very busy. The ladies’ activities have been very well attended. It has been so nice to see so many ladies participate. It is never too early to start thinking about the incoming women’s committee members. Each year the nomination process takes place during the Summer for a Fall induction of new members. Typically, three members’ terms expire, and three new ladies are welcomed onto the committee to serve a three-year term. I would like to reach out to the ladies of the club and ask if anyone is interested in being considered for the women’s committee. The by-laws require that you have been a member of the club for a minimum of three years and are active in club events. As I finish my three-year term, first, I can’t believe how fast it went; and second, I am so thankful for the experience and especially for making new friends. Therefore, I encourage all ladies of the club to be considered by letting Tina or me know if you are interested. The diversity of members truly helps to ensure activities and events planned are appealing to all ladies of the club. The preparation for the women’s charity golf tournament is well underway. The charity event is a great way to support the Child Advocacy Center and the programs that are so desperately needed. Please see the article for more details on how you can assist. As we have sponsored the Child Advocacy Center for the past two years, we will be looking for a new charity to sponsor next year, and of course, a new chair of the event. If you have a charity you would like to recommend, and chair the event, please reach out to me. I wish everyone a very safe and healthy summer. See you at the club!

July is finally here; the summer is in full swing, and things are running at full speed (the greens too!). We recently had a beautiful Father’s Day weekend, where we conducted a family golf kick-off event. Players young and old partnered up in a two-person alternate shot format. It was great to see so many family members spending quality time together over the two days. Please remember from June 24th- August 17th the course will be reserved for junior golf on Wednesday and Friday mornings until 10:00AM. Due to the number of participants and the number of holes they play, we need the entire course the first three hours of the day. Please be considerate of our younger players as they are the future of the game and Transit Valley. The Ralph Haas Invitational is right around the corner, and at press time, we currently have three spots to fill. Please register or contact the golf shop if interested in joining us for the summer’s marquee member-guest.

Hole In Ones On Saturday, June 9th while playing with his wife Natalie, Keith Held made his first career hole-in-one on the ninth hole. Playing from the White tees and using his 6-iron, Mr. Held needed only one swing to find the bottom of the cup! On Sunday, May 8th during a US Kids Tour Event held at Timber Ridge Golf Club, Brady Bilkey aced the 138-yard 8th Hole. He went on to shoot a 41 and earn a one-shot victory. Way to go Brady!

Junior Golf Update Our PGA Junior League team is currently 1-1, with a recent close loss at the Park Club. This year’s team consists of twelve children ranging in ages from 10-13 years of age. The format consists of a twoperson scramble over nine holes against teams from other area clubs. This year’s team consists of Brady Bilkey, Olivia Bohn, Jackson Cohen, Cameron Maier, Chase Fasolino, Carter Kusmierski, Jack Kusmierski, Ryder Lacotte, Ryan Singer, Dylan Suchack, Rohan Desai, Brayden Patel. Good luck to everyone the rest of the season and thank you to all of the parents that come out and support the team! In order to give our junior players the best chance to succeed and maximize their enjoyment, we need to ensure they are using properly sized equipment. A general rule of thumb is to have the length of the driver be two-thirds of the child’s height. In the Transit Valley Golf Shop, we feature US Kids Clubs, which offer nine different sizes, with each size a unique color and scaled appropriately in terms of length, weight, flex, grip thickness, and head size. By offering nine different sizes, this allows each child to have a much better fit than many other companies that only offer two or three sizes for ages 5-14. July

A Message from the Greens Superintendent Adam Mis We are already heading into summer and the course is coming together. It has been a whirlwind of projects we have completed in the last year and half since I arrived. It has been lots of fun and challenging work for the staff, and we are proud of what we have accomplished in such a brief period. This past month the club has received great accolades from the local and state golfing community. Transit Valley can now confirm it is the premier family club in western NY, and we are proud to be part of the renaissance. Currently we are finishing #15 fairway. This was an unexpected big project to help make the hole playable during wet conditions. This hole, being one of the lowest areas on the property, was difficult to maintain with all the rain we had this spring. The drain system goes to #10 pond but at grade. The straightening of fairways on the property included #15, but we were not able to do it because it was under water for most of the spring. We ended up installing a drain, raising a section of fairway to get the water to naturally shed, and moving sod from #10 fairway to repair. While cutting the drain, we hit all kinds of old clay tiles that were full of mud and or collapsed. We will need to continue to add some more drains to help the beginning of the fairway drain better. When done, it should be much more sustainable when we have wet conditions We also are finishing the berm at #2 tee. In a few years you will have a nice screen between the road and #2 tee, and a good visual separation from #1 fairway. We hope to continue moving down Muegel road with some more plant material. We have also been addressing the potholes in the cart paths. When the cart paths were installed, there was no geotextile fabric installed below and they used limestone dust to build the paths. The problem is that every time it rains, the mud and dust just pump up right from underneath. We have added some fresh #1 limestone to help give it some more base to fill and limit the potholes. In the master plan there are many paths to be relocated to hide some of the “In your face paths” when teeing off. The architect has tried to reroute, so they are a little more hidden and the golf holes are more aesthetically pleasing while on the tee. We will look for a more permanent solution to the paths once that time comes. Transit Valley is extremely fortunate for the quick turn around and I am happy to have one the best staffs in WNY. When making changes to maintenance practices and changing the culture you need to assemble a talented team to implement. You have over 190yrs of experience on our staff. We have assembled some of the best and brightest in WNY on one staff. It has been a joy watching this crew work together to provide the membership with a great golfing experience and will strive to keep getting better. Dress Code and Denim Policy Grill Room, Patio, & Simulator Lounge

Country Club appropriate denim is defined as properly sized, in excellent condition, and dark in color(white or black denim is also acceptable). Country Club appropriate denim does not include holes or rips, fading or stonewash look, frayed material, denim shorts, jackets, skirts, dresses, work type denim shirts, or jeans that are worn extremely low cut. Tasteful and appropriate shirts and shoes must be worn. For men, denim must be paired with any tucked-in and collared shirt, sport coat or sweater. Country Club Attire is also deemed appropriate which is defined as: Bermuda length shorts, sundresses, collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire.

Country Club Attire will be acceptable consisting of collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire. Sport coats are optional but encouraged. The intent is to not allow denim. However, denim will be permissible if the Grill Room has reached its maximum capacity.

Club/Special Events

Dress codes will be defined for all Club/Special Events and will be communicated in the newsletter.

Members are encouraged to consider common sense when making casual-attire decisions. We prefer our members dress-up rather than dress-down when visiting the Club. While we expect that members will use good taste and judgment, the Board has directed Club Management to discreetly review any inappropriate casual attire decisions directly with the member to ensure that the Club maintains a casual environment that is enjoyable for everyone.
