Academic LORs: They highlight your academic achievements, skills, and potential.

These LORs are particularly important if you’re applying for higher education programs, such as a master’s or doctoral degree.

Professional LORs: They are often required when applying for jobs or internships. These LORs highlight your work ethic, skills, and accomplishments, and should provide concrete proof of impact in your professional setting.

Character LORs: These LORs focus on your personal qualities, such as your integrity, leadership skills, and character. Character LORs are helpful if you’re applying for programs or jobs that require strong interpersonal skills or leadership abilities.

How to approach and ask for a recommendation?

Once you have identified potential recommenders, it’s crucial to approach them with care and respect. Here are some tips on how to ask for the LOR:

● Ask in advance: Give your recommenders sufficient time to write the LOR, at least 2-3 weeks before the deadline.

● Ask politely: Politely ask your recommenders if they would be willing to write the LOR for you.

● Provide context: Provide recommenders with your context on your academic or professional goals and why you’re applying for the program or job.

● Share your achievements: Share your academic or professional achievements, including any research or internship experience, publications, or awards

● Provide necessary information: Provide the Necessary Information to your recommender, including the deadline, the format of the LOR, and any specific instructions or prompts.
