NEW COSMETIC BOTOX CLINIC JUST OPENED IN THE BONS SECOURS HOSPITAL, TRALEE
At John Curran Plastic Surgery (Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee) we recently opened our cosmetic injectables clinic. A main component of this offering is Botox®- a trading name for botulinum toxin type A. This is a powerful neurotoxin which temporaril y blocks muscle contraction. Refined to minute and safe doses it can eradicate lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. The effect takes up to a week to manifest and is temporary, lasting 3-4 months. Despite its potency, the neurotoxin i s very safe when administered by a properly trained doctor. As with all cosmetic interventions, it is wise to properly research your practitioner and to ensure that they are adequately trained. In Ireland all plastic surgeons must be listed on the specialist register of the Medical Council of Ireland (http://bit.ly/CheckIMCRegister) and most will also be members of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons (http://bit.ly/IAPSFindSurgeon) with the FRCSI qualification.

Entertainment for all ages, with room to expand to different areas such as walking or running tracks, it would prove to be a great benefit to the town. What is Phone Number spoofing?
Billy says: Phone spoofing is the act of altering the information forwarded to your caller ID in order to hide the true origin ID. In simpler terms, caller ID spoofing allows you to display a phone number different than the actual number from which the call was placed. Oftentimes, the most important aspect of caller ID spoofing is spoofing the area code, thus giving one the ability to appear as though they’re calling from a local number. Remember a bank will never ask you for your credit card details over the phone nor will Microsoft, Eir will never phone you to tell you have a problem with your computer.. Simple rule if you don’t know who is calling you just hang up.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: PREPARING FOR RETIREMENT
Question
I will be retiring from work in 2017 when I reach 65. What do I need to know about pensions and other benefits in retirement?
Answer
When you retire at age 65 you can claim Jobseeker’s Benefit, which is based on your Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) contributions. If you do not qualify for Jobseeker’s Benefit, you can claim Jobseeker’s Allowance, which is means-tested.
At age 66, you may be entitled to the State Pension (Contributory). If you do not have enough PRSI contributions, you can apply for a State Pension (NonContributory), which is means-tested. You should apply for a State Pension at least three months in advance. You may have contributed to an occupational pension scheme during your working life or you may have a personal pension arrangement. You need to contact the pension provider to find out exactly what benefits your pension gives you.
If you move from employment to retirement in the course of the year, you should get a PAYE Balancing Statement (P21) from your local tax office at the end of the year. This will trigger a refund if you have paid too much tax. Your Jobseeker’s Benefit or State Pension and any occupational pension are taxable. However, the tax exemption limits are higher for people aged 65 or over and there are some extra tax credits.
At age 66, you will be exempt from paying PRSI. At age 70, you will pay a reduced Universal Social Charge if your annual income is €60,000 or less.
At age 66, you will also be eligible for a Free Travel Pass and may be eligible for the Household Benefits Package, which consists of a free TV licence and an electricity or gas allowance.
For medical cards and GP visit cards, which are means tested, the income thresholds are higher for people aged 66 and over. If you are over 70 there is a different means test for the medical card and you can get a GP visit card without an income test.

Bexblah Beauty
Hello my beautiful friends! This week I’m talking all things Face Masks. With the changing weather it’s extremely important to take extra good care of our skin. I know we all love going to a beauticians for a fab facial but I love doing at home face masks also. They’re more affordable for one, and, provided you get something of good quality, they can work wonders for the skin! I have both a ‘splurge’ and a ‘save’ face mask for you all this week… Trust me they’re both fab!
Side note, I know we all want lovely tanned faces but I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing AT LEAST SPF 30 on your face every day… even if it isn’t sunny! Ain’t nobody got time for premature ageing or sun damage.
Remember everyone, the phrase “It’s gotta get worse before it gets better” applies when doing facemasks. Facials and masks, while intended to treat and beautify skin, are not a quick fix solution. Facials, detox masks and acne masks are meant to clean deep down in your skin and get rid of the gunk and junk that lies deep in your pores. There is supposedly ‘years’ of oil, makeup, buildup and sunscreen that can be hiding in your 7 layers of skin and detoxifying face masks for acne pull that buildup to the surface in order to improve and heal skin. Once your skin has been cleaned deep and the junk underneath is gone, your skin will begin to heal and with continued use, you will begin to see the results you were hoping for all along! So don’t worry if after your face mask you breakout a bit, IT’S NORMAL!
TRILOGY MINERAL RADIANCE MASK
€23.95
DEAD SEA MAGIK DELICATE
This face mask is designed to ‘Energise, Purify & Deeply Cleanse’. The sound of that makes this instantly appealing to me, who doesn’t want skin that looks energised and pure? This mask comes in a jar with a cute little spatula to apply the mask with, which is great for gals like me who rock the fake nails! The first time I used this mask, yes I broke out, but I was expecting it, sure it says it deeply cleanses your skin. Frankly, I would have been disappointed if my skin didn’t break out. My skin did feel amazing after the initial breakout, and the more I’ve used the mask, the better my skin is looking. I love love love this mask. Also, there’s no time limit, you can leave this on as long as you want, you can even sleep in it, which I have done & highly recommend. Mineral-rich kaolin clay delivers instant radiance with a deep cleansing action. Native New Zealand pohutukawa extract helps tone and regenerate while emollient oils rosehip and evening primrose nourish and hydrate. How much is this amazing mask you ask? €23.95!! This is why I love Trilogy, you get an amazing, natural, organic product for a more than reasonable price. And yes, one jar will last you a good while, a little goes a long way with this product!
BOOSTING MASK €8.95
This mask is perfect for those of you whose skin has been dried out by the recent ever changing weather or for sensitive skin. This mask is gentle enough for the most dry and sensitive skins, Delicate Boosting Mask is a smooth, and creamy hydrating mask containing Dead, Sea Mud. I feel like I can use this on my skin more frequently than other face masks due to that fact that it is so gentle on my skin. This is perfect for all you guys and gals on a budget as a tube, which you’ll get many applications from, will only set you back an amazing €8.95! What I love about the brand Dead Sea Magik is the whole ‘Home Spa’ feel that the products give, without paying Spa prices!
So that’s it for this week! Hope you all enjoyed this week’s light hearted post! Have a great weekend and I’ll be back here next week with more beauty related goodness! BEXBLAHFITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS! I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A FANTASTIC WEEK!
This week I’m going to be talking all about FAT and why Fat does not make you fat. Fats are actually awesome.
I have started training with a new online coach recently and one of the first things I noticed in my meal plan is that I was being told to eat things such as full fat Philadelphia and Mayonnaise, when previously I had been eating the ‘lighter than light’ versions.
For years, decades even, we’ve been fed the lie that the best way to control calories and shed fat is to cut fat from our diet. Since fat contains more calories per gram than protein or carbs, it only makes sense that, in order to lose fat, you need to consume less of it, right? Wrong.
Regardless of past success with fat-restricted diets, lowering fat intake doesn’t equate with dropping fat. A little fat could even help make your fat loss more successful!
EATING FAT MAKES YOU BURN FAT
From a biochemical level, low-fat diets don’t make sense. They don’t condition your body to be efficient at burning fat. Instead, they ramp up the enzymatic machinery in your body so it becomes efficient at burning carbohydrates.
Lower-fat diets can also have negative impacts on adipokines which impact fat loss. Adipokines are hormones released specifically from your fat cells. One such hormone, adiponectin, is a true fatburning hormone that works to enhance your metabolism and increase the rate in which fats are broken down, curbing your appetite. Lower-fat diets lead to lower levels of adiponectin.
FAT MAKES YOU HAPPIER AND MORE MOTIVATED
Omega-3 fatty acids can boost serotonin levels in the brain, helping to improve mood, increase motivation and keep you from devouring a large pizza like it’s your job. 3.5 percent of women and 2 percent of men have suffered from diagnosed binge-eating disorders, while millions more people are occasional emotional eaters, according to the National Institutes of Mental Health.
FAT MAKES YOUR FOOD BETTER, LITERALLY
Many nutrients including vitamins A, D, E, and K are fatsoluble, meaning that the body can’t absorb them without fat. If your body isn’t absorbing nutrients properly, that can lead to vitamin deficiencies and bring on dry skin, blindness,
brittle bones, muscle pains, and abnormal blood clotting. These vitamins are also key to maintaining energy, focus, and muscle health, all of which contribute to a healthy weight. Vitamin E, for example is a powerful antioxidant and helps maintain your metabolism, while the body’s levels of vitamin D predicts its ability to lose fat, especially in the abdominal region.
So while you can pile your salad high with nutrient-rich spinach, tomatoes and carrots, you really need to thank the olive oil for sending the salad’s vitamins your way.
So now that we’re all aware that eating fat is necessary and should be done daily, in moderation of course, everything in moderation.
Here’s some of my favourite high fat foods…
• Avocado
• Eggs
• Peanut Butter
• Full Fat Mayonnaise
• Full Fat Philadephia
• Smoked Salmon
I eat all of these foods basically everyday, and I’m currently at the leanest I have been in a long time… just sayin!
While browsing through the farmers market in Tralee a few weeks ago, I came across some fantastic cheese ...Here we have an Italian living in Tralee making Italian cheese from local milk , and its beautiful! DON’T FORGET this Saturday {tomorrow} we will be picking wild garlic.... all details on the facebook page Tralee culinary gangsters and blog of the same name
SWEET GEM LETTUCE SALAD WITH BUFALA MOZZARELLA
INGREDIENTS
For the lemon-yogurt vinaigrette
• 1/4 cup shallots, minced
• 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice, divided
• 1 tablespoon champagne vinegar
• 1 teaspoon kosher salt
• 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
• 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste
• 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
• 1 cup Persian or English cucumbers, thinly sliced
• 4 small heads sweet gem lettuce
• 1 ounce buffalo mozzarella
• extra-virgin olive oil, to garnish
METHOD
1. Combine the shallots, half the lemon juice, vinegar and salt in a small bowl. Set the bowl aside for 5-10 minutes to marinate the shallots.
2. Add the olive oil in a slow, steady stream, whisking constantly to combine. Stir in the pepper. Taste for seasoning and add more salt or pepper, if desired.
3. Transfer 1/2 cup of the dressing to a small bowl and save 1/2 cup in an airtight container in the fridge for another use.
4. Add the Greek yogurt and other half of the lemon juice to the bowl with the dressing, whisk and set aside.
For the salad:
1. Place the cucumbers in a bowl and add a pinch of salt and 1 ounce of the vinaigrette. Mix thoroughly, then divide and arrange on the bottom of four salad plates.
2. Cut the lettuce into quarters with the root trimmed off and place in a bowl. Add a tablespoon of the vinaigrette and work it into the leaves using your hands. Plate the quarters on top of the cucumbers.
3. Slice mozzarella in quarters and place in front of the lettuce on each place. Garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and serve.
MOZZARELLA AND CAVOLO NERO CROSTINI
INGREDIENTS
• 1 bunch of cavolo nero, stems removed
• 3 garlic cloves
• Good handful of grated Parmesan
• Flaky sea salt and black pepper
• Extra-virgin olive oil
• Juice of 1 lemon
• 8 slices of ciabatta
• 1/2 cup balls of buffalo mozzarella, at room temperature
Place a pan of salted water over a high heat. Cut the cavolo nero into 1-inch strips. Once the water has come to a boil, add the cavolo nero and, when the water comes back to a boil, blanch for 2 minutes. Drain and, when cool enough to handle, squeeze out the excess liquid
METHOD
1. Transfer the cavolo nero to the small bowl of a food processor. Add two of the garlic cloves, the Parmesan and some salt and pepper, and whiz to a puree. With the motor still going, slowly add 2/3 cup of olive oil, then transfer to a mixing bowl and fold in the lemon juice.
2. Now place a heavy-based griddle pan over medium heat. Lightly coat the sliced bread with a few brushes of olive oil and grill on both sides until lightly charred. Halve the remaining garlic clove and rub over the hot grilled bread. Top with broken-up pieces of mozzarella and a generous amount of the cavolo nero puree. Serve immediately

BIKE TRACK WINNER FOR “OUR BIG IDEA” EVENT IN IT
TRALEE
Tralee Tracks & Trails, an enterprising idea from Transition Year student Tiernan Brosnan from Mercy Mounthawk, was one of three big ideas presented to the panel of expert judges in the IT Tralee on Monday 20th March. The competition was organised by IT Student Qudus Oyebanji as part of Enterprise Month and sponsored by Tralee Chamber Alliance, it featured presentations from Transition Year students from Mercy Mounthawk Secondary and two from Presentation Secondary.
The students had to present their ideas which would benefit Tralee as a town to the judges. The Judges included, Kieran Ruttledge from Tralee Chamber Alliance, Ken Tobin from HQ Tralee, Kerry Footballer Shane Enright from Bank of Ireland and Breda O’Dwyer from IT Tralee, they heard a range of great ideas from the students. The winner Tiernan Brosnan received a cheque for €500 from Tralee Chamber Alliance and a trophy sponsored by Trophy World.
Tiernan’s big idea, an outdoor biking adventure park, is an incredible concept which would restore and revitalize the former dump area by The Wetlands as a tourism destination for the local community but also visitors to the town. Entertainment for all ages, with room to expand to different areas such as walking or running tracks, it would prove to be a great benefit to the town. In the coming weeks, Bank of Ireland have arranged for Tiernan to be interviewed by Irish entrepreneur and businessman Gavin Duffy from RTÉ’s Dragon’s Den.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !
DURING A HUGE STORM, A MAN’S CITY CALLS FOR AN EMERGENCY EVACUATION
As his neighbors are driving away, they offer him a seat in their minivan. He says, “No thank you. I believe in God, and God will protect me from this storm.”
The flood waters start to rise and the man is standing on his balcony. A family in a fishing boat come by and offer a space on their boat. The man says, “No thank you. I believe in God, and God will protect me from this storm.”
The storm starts getting even worse. His house is nearly completely engulfed in water, and the man is clinging to his chimney with rain blowing in his face. A National Guard helicopter comes by and lowes a ladder for him. He says, “No thank you. I believe in God, and God will protect me from this storm.” The man drowns shortly thereafter and goes do heaven. Once in heaven, fuming, he marches up to Saint Peter and says “I’ve been a loyal Christian all my life. I put my faith in God to save in that storm and he let me drown. How could he do something like that?”
Peter looks at the man and says, “I really don’t know what you expected. God sent you a van, a boat, and a helicopter.
EASTER JOKE
This rooster wakes up early Easter Sunday morning. He sticks his head out of the chicken coop, and sees all these multicolored eggs all over the barnyard. He takes a look at the eggs, takes a look at the hens, takes another look at the eggs, takes one more look at the hens, he thinks about it for a minute, then he walks across the barnyard and kicks the C**P out of the peacock.
TWO ELDERLY COUPLES WERE HAVING DINNER...
when one of the men says to the other man of the group, “Hey Stan, tell us about the college course you recently took!” Stan looks up from his dinner and says, “Oh, it was great! It was a memory class to help me to remember things better.”
“Did it work?” the other guy asks.
“Sure did! I’m remembering stuff more efficiently now. It was a big improvement.”
“What was the name of the school?”
Stan looks off into the distance, furrows his brows and asks, “What is the name of the flower... usually comes in a dozen...has thorns...?”
“Rose?” the other man asks.
Stan looks to his wife, “Hey Rose, what was the name of that school I went to?”

TORQUING CARS!
HAMMOND LOOKS WELL IN FIRST PICTURES SINCE SECOND TERRIFYING CRASH LEFT HIM BRUISED ALL OVER
Richard Hammond looked happy and healthy in his first public appearance since falling from his motorbike and bashing his head during filming.
The Grand Tour presenter, who suffered a horror car crash that nearly killed him more than a decade ago, appeared at an advertising seminar in London on Tuesday, March 21, looking in high spirits as he chatted with the crowd.
Wearing grey jeans and a navy blazer, Hammond, 47, showed no visible injuries as he took part in a Q&A at Advertising Week Europe, despite the tumble from his motorbike while filming scenes in Mozambique
Co-star Jeremy Clarkson had said: “He really did hurt himself quite badly.”
A show source told The Sun : “Richard was travelling quite fast when he came off. It caused instant horror on set.“There was a lot of concern.
“If his injuries had been serious it wouldn’t have been easy to get medical attention.”However, Hammond played down reports of a horror smash, saying although he was left bruised all over, he is doing fine.
Writing on motoring site DriveTribe , Hammond said: “It’s true, I did fall off a motorbike whilst filming recently for The Grand Tour in Mozambique. “I banged my head, yes, along with pretty much everything else apart from my left thumb, which remains un-bruised.”
NEW RANGE ROVER VELAR LAUNCHES STUNNING 4TH MODEL TO RECORD BREAKING ORDERS
Range Rover last night launched a stunning new luxury car - only their fourth model in almost 50 years. The Velar, named after an original prototype, will go on sale this summer and will cost from £45,000 with the flagship model boasting super car levels of perfomance. It was unveiled to the world at a glitzy launch at the Design Museum in London and will fit in between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport. Engineered and built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant, it will take on rivals in the medium-sized SUV market such as the Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan.
It has clearly been popular already with reports that it has attracted more pre-orders than any other model in Land Rover history. Prices for the Velar, which goes on sale in July, will start at £44,830 and rise to around £85,000 for the top-of-the-range, 155mph ‘First Edition’. Luxurious touches inside the cabin include hidden-until-lit controls and a state-of-the-art Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. For those with an aversion to leather upholstery, there is also an option to have the seats covered with a material made from recycled plastic bottles. On the outside super-slim matrix-laser LED headlights and Burnished Copper-coloured detailing highlight the design flourishes. There is also an option for Matrix-Laser LED Headlights which can cast a full beam to 550 metres. Another cool feature are the flush deployable door handles – a Range Rover-first – which feature subtle LED illumination and pop out when the car is unlocked. Once the car goes above 5mph the slide back in to maintain the sleek lines. There is an impressive 632-litre luggage compartment and air suspension is standard on six-cylinder models. A state-ofthe-art audio system can be ordered to provide a surround sound to all occupants through 23 speakers. Land Rover say the new model, which takes its name from the original 1969 Range Rover prototype, offers “luxury, refinement and all-terrain capability” never before seen in the midsize SUV segment. All models have the also has the go-anywhere ability associated with the off-road brand.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR
NO POINT IN REFEREE’S ADMISSION MONTH’S LATER:
It remains the norm in most sports that referees don’t comment on decisions they make during games. So one wonders what was the point of David Gough’s admission that he “got it wrong” in the closing minutes of last year’s All Ireland semi-final. He missed a frontal charge by Dublin’s Kevin McManamon on Peter Crowley. The 80,000 plus in the stadium saw it – even if only the Kerry supporters would say that publicly! With only a point in the game it was a crucial missed call and he has now held his hands up!. However what he said leaves more questions than giving any solace to that Kerry side. Firstly he says he did not see the challenge and did not know until afterwards that “I had missed what I had missed”. But why did his linesmen not see it? He says he did not get the call wrong on purpose but surely the only story would have been if he came out and said he DID make the wrong call on purpose! He does say that referees should be granted permission to speak to the media after big games in order to be given the chance to explain certain decisions. The question from this is when should this happen? If they give post match interviews straight after the game then emotions are running high. And like this case with David Gough, if the referee did not see the challenge how can he talk about it.
And if the referee is given time to review a video of the game then surely his observations will be clouded by having a second look. So maybe it’s better to leave things as they are but also maybe there needs to be a discussion on referee’s apologising months later. Does it make things up to the ‘wronged’ team? No. It only draws up the hurt again. So maybe he was doing it to ease his conscience –and maybe everyone deserves the chance to do this?
AIDAN DANCES PAST
EXPECTATIONS:
Before last Sunday night’s Dancing with the Stars semi-final Aidan O’Mahony was the favourite to be voted off. Boylesports said
that, “ Aidan O’Mahony is the only celebrity remaining in Dancing With The Stars who has yet to appear in the dance-off, however that hasn’t helped his chances of making the final as he is the 6/5 favourite for the chop.”
But those who were writing him off – and in fairness Aidan seemed resigned to that face – had not factor in the Big 3 voting blocks. Kerry people, Kerry GAA and the Gardai! Obviously these got behind him and the Tralee based Garda is now through to the final, which to his credit is a great achievement. The final is on this Sunday night but as far as I know only the judges will be voting so it does look like Aidan will finish 3rd. But the experts will be slower to write him off just yet.
TRALEE TOWN BOARD NEWS:
The fixtures for this weekend in the Tralee Town Board see Ballymacelligott take on John Mitchels, Ausin Stacks versus Na Gaeil, Ballymac B up against St Pats Blennerville and Stacks B facing Kerins O’Rahilly’s B. All games throw in on Sunday at 4pm. Keep an eye on Club Social Media for any changes that may occur to these fixtures.
Kerry v Dublin: There was a great atmosphere in Tralee last weekend as the Dubs came to Town. Hard luck on our Kerry team and in particular our Tralee players –David Moran, Barry john Keane , Jack Savage & Jack Barry for not managing a win. The upside is that from a tourism point of view, a draw is probably a great result for the town as the Dubs now, at least, have fond memories of Tralee and will return (we hope)!

EAGLES NO MATCH
FOR WARRIORS:
Garvey’s Tralee Warriors will be able to gain some valuable information about their Champions Trophy opponents as they will face Maree in Letterkenny. With Maree defeating Keanes Supervalu Killorglin and winning the Division One Regular Season for the second year in a row this will not be an easy game for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors.
The new club in Tralee has had a hugely successful first season and signed off in front of their fans with an 83-53 win over UL Eagles. Ricardo Leonard had a weekend to remember as he was the Grand Marshal of the St Patrick’s Day Parade before playing his last competitive game of basketball in the Complex against the Limerick side.
While the game was tied at 19 all at the end of the first quarter the home side proved why they are a top four side from then on. They led by 10 at the half with the score on 40-30 to the Warriors. They dominated at both ends of the court from then on and by the end of the third quarter the game was virtually over as Garvey’s led 65-39.
There was no way back for UL and the fourth quarter was more like an exhibition match with the home side winning by 30 points 83-53. Garvey’s Tralee Warriors had 11 different scorers with Darragh O’Hanlon leading the way with 13. In a nice touch father and son Ricardo and Ryan Leonard both finished on 8 points.
