Why Upgrading to Windows 11 Is Important

As technology evolves, staying up to date with the latest operating system is more than just keeping things fresh — it’s essential for security, productivity, and performance. Microsoft’s Windows 11, the successor to Windows 10, brings several compelling reasons to upgrade.

1. Enhanced Security

Windows 11 is designed with modern security features that go beyond what Windows 10 o ers. It requires Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, which improves encryption and protects sensitive data. Regular updates and advanced threat protection also help guard against cyberattacks and malware.

2. Better Performance and E ciency

With improvements in memory management, disk usage, and app prioritization, Windows 11 runs more smoothly — especially on newer hardware. Boot times are faster, and battery life is optimized on laptops.

3. A Modern, User-Friendly Interface

Windows 11 o ers a cleaner and more intuitive interface. The centred Start menu, redesigned taskbar, and rounded window corners provide a fresh, modern look. Productivity features like Snap Layouts and virtual desktops help users stay organized and multitask more e ciently.

4. Compatibility with New Software and Hardware

As developers optimize apps for Windows 11, staying on an older system might mean missing out on performance boosts and new features. Some hardware, especially newer chipsets and devices, are speci cally built to take advantage of Windows 11’s capabilities.

5. Continued Support

Windows 10 support ends in October 2025. Upgrading to Windows 11 ensures continued access to updates, patches, and Microsoft support.

In Conclusion

Upgrading to Windows 11 is not just about embracing change; it’s about future-proo ng your system with better security, performance, and tools. If your PC meets the requirements, making the switch is a smart step forward.

Kerry Hospice Foundation Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle

Are you in a position to Pedal for Palliative?

Since 2017, when Kerry Hospice opened its state of the art, 15-bedroom inpatient palliative care facility, we have been at full capacity. Rather than wait, we brought forward plans to extend our service.

We hope to break ground at the end of May. This will include new facilities for families, children of patients, staff and our headline, five extra beds. Initially, the impatient unit cost us in excess of 6.5 million euro, these works will cost much the same.

This is where we need your help. While we have savings, we don’t

have enough. So, we want your support. We would love if you could cycle for us. If this isn’t practical, support in the form of sponsorship or other direct contributions would go a long way towards this important cause.

We will be deeply grateful for all backing.

We are constantly reminded of our motto, while Kerry Hospice will always need your help, we hope that you will never need the Hospice.

Tralee Hosts Top SciFest 2025 Winners at MTU Kerry

Four Kerry students have won top awards at SciFest 2025, held at MTU Kerry Campus in Tralee. Clodagh de Búrca of Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí claimed the Best Project Award for “Surviving the Storm”, while Alex Thompson, Eoin Cashman, and Kamil Zoltek of Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra earned the Runner-Up Best Project Award for their lunar science project on Apollo 16 dust trajectories.

The winners, chosen from a wide field of Munster post-primary school students, will now represent MTU Kerry Campus at the SciFest National Final in November. Clodagh expressed her excitement: “I really thought outside the box to prepare for future Irish storms. I’m grateful to my teacher for her support.”

Dr. Seán McSweeney, Dean of Engineering at MTU, praised the entries and said, “With our new STEM building nearly complete, we look forward to welcoming future scientists who will shape Ireland’s future.”

Keynote speaker Marian Cantillon, founder of Pitseal, urged students to stay curious and take risks in STEM. “Be brave, ask questions, and keep going. That’s how real change happens.”

SciFest Founder Sheila Porter highlighted the event’s impact on young innovators, with over 15,000 students participating annually. She thanked partners like Intel, EirGrid, and the Department of Education for supporting inclusive STEM opportunities.

Founded in 2006, SciFest is now

Ireland’s largest second-level STEM fair, culminating in a prestigious national final and offering winners

the chance to represent Ireland internationally.

Our U21s faced a tough South Kerry side in Round 1 of the Ask Acorn County Championship, falling 7-22 to 1-6. Despite the result, the lads showed great heart to the end. Onwards and upwards!

U16 Boys

Huge congratulations to our U16 B team who won the Central Region Division 5 Final, beating Austin Stacks B 2-08 to 1-05. Special mention to Séadhna O’Brien for two crucial goals and Keelan Burke for excellent goalkeeping. This marks a second title for this group after their Division 2 A team win. Thanks to all parents, Currow GAA, and referee Paul Hayes. Training continues ahead of the County League.
