Gaxha Writes His Name Into The History Books But Kerry Leave Bray Empty Handed

Kerry travelled to Bray on Friday night, seeking their first points of the season. Despite their 2-0 defeat to Cobh Ramblers last week, the team hoped to get their season up and running. Kerry made two changes to their starting eleven, with Leo Gaxha and Andy Quaid earning their first starts of the season.

Bray, on the other hand, kept their starting eleven completely unchanged after their late 1-0 win away to Treaty United last week.

The game started with a few chances for both sides, but Bray dominated possession and scored in the 15th minute through Cole Omorhiomwan. Kerry’s Wayne Guthrie made some fantastic saves to keep his side in the game, but Chris Lyons scored a diving header in the second half to make it 2-0 to Bray. Kerry’s Leo Gaxha scored his side’s first senior Airtricity League goal, but Bray responded quickly and scored again through Omorhiomwan, securing a 3-1 win.

Kerry returns to Mounthawk Park next Friday to face Treaty United in a Munster derby fixture. Despite the tough result, the team will hope to climb up the table and earn their first points of the season.

Candlelit Vigil for Ukraine last Friday

The Ukrainian community of Tralee came together to hold a candlelit vigil on Friday February 24th. “We remembered our loved ones that are staying at home, in Ukraine, defending the country at the forefront and in the rear and those whose lives have been lost in the war. It was also to thank people of Kerry who have warmly welcomed the Ukrainian community to their county and who have helped ensure the safety of women and children who fled their homes in the days after the invasion last February and every day since then” said Olya Maryntseva, Community Development Worker supporting the Ukrainian community north, east and west Kerry.

The event was organised by the Ukrainian community in Tralee and was supported by NEWKD, TIRC (Tralee International Resource Centre), MTU (Munster Technological University), Kerry Country Council and Kerry ETB “We would like to sincerely thank those who have been on the front line to help thousands who arrived in Kerry since the war first began and who continue to arrive daily” added Olya Maryntseva.

Club And Volunteer Fairs – Coming To A Town Near You!

Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership and Kerry Volunteer Centre are organizing a series of Club and Volunteer Fairs to promote not-for-profit clubs and organizations in local communities. The fairs will take place on Sundays from 12:00 to 3:00 pm in six locations across Kerry from March to May. Dingle – Tralee –Listowel - Kenmare – Killorglin & Cahersiveen -The events are free and open to the public, offering an opportunity to engage with clubs and organizations, learn about available activities, and explore ways to stay active and be part

of the local community. Kerry County Council encourages everyone to participate in the fairs, emphasizing that they are an ideal way to get involved in the community, especially for those who are new to Kerry or moving to a different location. The fairs aim to showcase the extensive range of local not-forprofit clubs and organizations and encourage their promotion and recruitment.

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr John Francie Flynn, encouraged everyone to participate in the fairs. “This is a great opportunity

for members of the public to learn what their local clubs and voluntary groups have to offer. All not-for-profit clubs and organisations that would like to benefit from their local Club & Volunteer Fair are encouraged to reserve today,” he said.

Over 60 events planned for March, Kerry Month of Enterprise

Kerry Month of Enterprise (KMOE) is marking its 10th anniversary this year, with more than 60 events set to take place in the entire month of March. The county-wide events will cater to businesses at various stages of development and across various sectors. Kerry Local Enterprise Office is set to host a series of virtual events under the National Enterprise Spotlight series on topics such as exporting, online digital training and driving cost savings with lean. Udarás na Gaeltachta will host sessions on critical thinking and messaging for businesses interested in operating in Gaeltacht areas. Munster Technological University

will also host events such as the Kerry Start-up Challenge and New Frontiers Showcase, among others. Other local development companies like SKDP, IRD Duhallow and NEWKD will host events focused on self-employment supports, social media advertising, and advanced Excel training. Kerry Month of Enterprise is a collaborative initiative between various enterprise partners in the region, including Munster Technological University, Kerry County Council, Enterprise Ireland, and IDA Ireland, among others. Ms Jillian Kerins, a Volunteer with the Kerry Stars Club, has agreed to travel as a Volunteer with the Irish Team to support the 73 athletes and 34 Coaches as well as the Management Team that form the Irish Delegation to the 2023 World Games.

In order to qualify to travel as a Volunteer Jillian must raise considerable money for Special Olympics Ireland which helps to defray the enormous cost of sending a Delegation of this size.

Senior footballers will play against Blennerville next Saturday, 4th March in Tralee/St Brendans town league. Kerry defeated Armagh by a point on Saturday night, a valuable win before their encounter in Omagh next weekend. The juvenile academy training will resume next weekend at Ballyrickard Pitches, and the training time will be updated on ClubZap. New members are always welcome to join the club. U12 Girls, U14 Girls, and U16 Girls’ teams had their sessions last week. The U14 Girls had their first outing of the season on Strand Road pitch last Sunday, and U16 Girls had three of their players part of the team that won against Waterford in the U16 Munster Championship.

The Victory Social, a club event, is scheduled for Saturday, 4th March, in Ballyroe Heights Hotel. The event includes a drinks reception and dinner at 7.15 pm followed by entertainment from Brightside Band and DJ Manus.

The John Mitchels Senior Men, captained by Michael Walshe, played their third game in the town league at home to Na Gaeil under lights on Friday

Brilliant football was played during our U9 training at Tralee CBS Astroturf Pitch last Sunday. We’ll be back in action next Sunday. (ii) Our U8 and U10 boys will participate in Maynooth GAA Tournament on April 22nd and also go on their annual trip to Kilmacud Crokes.

U10:

Our U10 boys will take part in the Maynooth GAA Tournament on April 22nd and will also go on a trip to Dublin’s Kilmacud Crokes.

All-Stars:

The Austin Stack Club All-Stars began their Football-For-All session on Sunday last with a great turnout. Join us on Sunday next at 3pm at CBS Primary School Hall, Cluain na Lobhar. Newcomers are always welcome.

U11:

Last Sunday’s training for U11 boys went well with great football played. Join us at The Green CBS Astroturf Pitch on Sunday next at 11am. Everyone is welcome.

U13:

Two challenge games were played with Ballymac and Firies in the Bishop’s Field on Sunday last with refreshments and big screen sport provided after the games.

ST PATS GAA CLUB

Registration 2023

Players and coaches are encouraged to register their membership for 2023 as it provides access to the GAA/LGFA Injury Benefit Fund.

Juvenile Academy

The Juvenile Academy is open to boys and girls under 13 living in the Tralee area. The academy is returning on February 26th with a fee of €2 per child.

U5

The Juvenile Academy held its first session, welcoming all boys and girls from under 5 to under 13. Parents are encouraged to join in with the sessions.

U7

The U7 team had an excellent first session with Brendan Poff and new coach Oliver Murphy. They encourage all kids to practice during the week.

U8 Girls

The U8 girls had an energetic first session working on evasion, movement and ball handling. They welcomed three new girls and ended with a fun roller ball game against agile parents.

U9

The U9 team had a great first session back, with fundamental movement grids and skill drills. The session ended with a game and Jack won Player of the Week.

U10 Girls

The U10 girls had a great session working on their fundamentals, and the coaches are looking for female parents to help at games and sessions.

U11/U13

The U11 and U13 teams have combined sessions and are looking forward to the season ahead. They will participate in the U13 Town League, with their first game against Churchill.

U12/14 Girls

The U12/U14 Girls are continuing their training sessions on Wednesdays and welcome new members to join.

U7 Boys and Girls:

Tralee Parnells U7s had a great training session at MTU Sports Academy, with over 30 young players in attendance. Congrats to Óisín Bourke and Aoife O’Gorman who were named player of the week.

Ball Wall:

Tralee Parnells coaches participated in a coach-the-coaches session at the Ball Wall at Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn with South Kerry GDA Colm O’Brien. U11 hurlers also took part in the training. U12 and U14 Camogie: Training for U12 and U14 girls continues on Monday evenings at CBS the Green astro, with equipment provided for new players.

Congratulations: Congratulations to Mercy Mounthawk School players, including Tralee Parnells members, who won their quarter final match in the Junior Cork Colleges competition. Congrats also to CBS The Green and their Parnells players and coaches for winning the Gary Schollard Hurling Final.

Ukrainian Yunis leads the league with16 and half wins from 17 matches.His compatriot Olek comes second with 11.5 from 13 matches.Croatian Mirko has 10 wins from 12.Sami from Iran has 7 wins from 11 games.Sami recently had a deserved victory over Olek.Paul is keeping the Tralee flag flying with 7 wins from 16.Youngster Theo from Dingle has been a surprise this season with 6 wins from 13.Syrian Ayman comes next with 5.5 points from 15 matches.

Michael,an MTU student from Mullingar has 4.5 points from 10 games.Johnny from Tralee also has 4.5 points from 15 matches.Fellow Tralee player Brian has 4 points from 10 games.Another young player also proved that chess is just not a man’s game,with some great victories.Vicky from Bulgaria has 3 points from 12.Another local Kevin also has 3 points from 13.

Former League winner Dieter from Germany is just back after his Christmas break .He has 2 points from just 4 matches.Pat from Killorglin has played some fascinating matches and is unlucky to just have 1 victory from 9. Some players from the club travel to Listowel next Monday to play the north Kerry side in a return match.
