New Walking Trail Guide Launched for Listowel A new guide to the Childers Town Park and Woodlands Walking Trail in Listowel has been launched by the Cathaoirleach of Listowel Municipal District, Cllr Jimmy Moloney. The walking guide is one of a series of local improvements funded through the Department of Rural and Community Development under the 2018 Outdoor Recreation Investment Scheme. Walkways including the development of the one-kilometre Millennium Walk, two-kilometre Feale Walk and fourkilometre River Walk are clearly signposted with new colour coded way-markers and are included in the new guide. They are also clearly identified on new maps hand-painted by local artist Amy Sheehy and which are displayed on lectern units throughout Childers Park and Woodlands. ‘Currently, exciting plans are being drawn up to develop trailheads in the park for the extension of the Great Southern Trail Greenway, following the recent €3.5million funding announcement.’ Friday 4th October 2019

Hq Tralee And Listowel Generates €10 Million And Support 153 Jobs

A new first of its kind economic report from Vodafone Ireland has found that HQ Tralee generates over €10 million for the local economy, and had the largest economic impact of all of the hubs assessed across Ireland, having supported the creation of 153 new jobs directly and a further 107 indirectly. Nationally, smart working, with digital hubs in every county, could generate €312 million for the regional economy and create over 8,400 new jobs across over 1,000 new businesses. The study, which was carried out by economist Jim Power, and commissioned by Vodafone Ireland, was undertaken to assess how smart working – flexible or remote working from home or a hub – can help rural communities thrive in a meaningful way. HQTralee & HQListowel, established by Tom O’Leary and Ken Tobin, are digital hubs that are home to 41 businesses with combined net wages of €6.77 million – generating €1.69 million in taxes. According to the report, at a national level, if a digital hub was established in every county around Ireland; the potential to make a very significant economic, social and financial contribution

across the country is very real. Alongside alleviating urban migration and slower regional economic growth, the study suggests that the widespread adoption of smart working would result in a significant reduction in congestion and commute times, ease pressure on housing in cities, provide greater availability of school places and generate more employment of young graduates locally. The research also paints a picture of how smart working can help rural communities thrive in a meaningful way and provide people with a better quality of life. Director of Enterprise at Vodafone Ireland, Regina Moran, said, “Our study clearly shows that the creation of viable smart working opportunities in a hub, homeworking or a hybrid model in Ireland’s regions could prove transformative for people, businesses and local communities. . At Vodafone Ireland, we want connectivity to enable new ways of working that advance our rural communities and towns and help solve economic and social challenges in a meaningful way.” Ken Tobin, Co-owner, HQ Tralee, said; “The fact that we are based in the centre

Friday 4th October 2019

of town means that you have the community aspect, that quality of life. Everything is on your doorstep.” Richard Sharp, Horizon Controls, HQ Tralee, said; “I’m the chairman of Tralee Rugby Club and we’ve lost a lot of IT skilled individuals who have gone off to Cork or Dublin because

they’ve gone to University or they’ve gone to work in larger jobs. The benefit of being able to work in the hub is that we can retain those individuals and they can play their sports with their local towns and communities.”

Kerry Airport Ready To Maintain Smooth Transition For Passengers After Brexit PASSENGERS travelling through Kerry Airport will experience the same efficient service from staff at the points of departure and arrival while flights are expected to continue to operate as normal in the event of a no-deal Brexit. Kerry Airport has two destinations in the United Kingdom: London Luton and London Stansted. The company has been preparing to ensure, as is feasibly possible, that it will facilitate a smooth transition if the United Kingdom exits the European Union. The CEO of Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, said: “We share the same concerns as others in relation to the unknown and the threats posed by a United Kingdom exit from the European Union without a deal. The financial impact of Brexit is already being felt in terms of falling UK passenger numbers brought about uncertainty and the weakness of Sterling against the Euro. We look forward to continue

working with the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and, of course, the Minister of State, Mr Brendan Griffin TD.” Kerry Airport is prepared to deal with any matters that may arise in the unlikely event of a change in the interpretation of the Common Travel Agreement, United Kingdom Passport Holders or Aircraft whose origin is from the UK. UK passport holders arriving at Irish airports are currently processed through the ‘EU/ EEA/CH’ channel. If the UK leaves the EU without a deal, the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) has confirmed that UK passport holders will continue to be processed through the ‘EU/ EEA/CH’ channel – however, this ‘EU/EEA/CH’ channel will be re-designated as an ‘EU/ EEA/CH and UK’ channel. All necessary signage has been ordered and ready to be placed in the relevant areas at the airport should the United Kingdom exit the European Union.

Congratulations Tralee! ...on Tidy Towns Gold (Again!) Tralee for the eight-year running has retained its Gold Medal

in the Tidy Towns Awards, and once again has increased its overall score, rising to 331 marks! Well done to all the incredible volunteers, local businesses, community groups, Kerry County Council, Tralee Tidy Towns, Team Bramble, Glan Tralee and everyone who helped throughout the year Congratulations also to Maharees Heritage and Conservation on winning the water & communities award (Tralee Chamber Alliance )

Friday 4th October 2019

Kerry Airport does not under any circumstances provide for the importation or exportation of Cargo and does not hold the relevant licence to do so. Therefore, the airport will not be affected by any issues that will evolve in this area as a result of the UK’s exit from the European Union. “Training of employees at Kerry Airport is up to date and ongoing but we suspect that every airport and other businesses in Ireland will encounter difficulties in UK-

sourced training,” said John Mulhern. Ideally located for anyone wishing to travel on business or pleasure, Kerry Airport services direct flights to seven destinations including: London Luton, London Stansted, Frankfurt-Hahn, Berlin, Alicante & Faro (summer) with Ryanair, and to Dublin with Aer Lingus Regional. For more information about Kerry Airport, please visit www.KerryAirport.ie or contact +353 66 9764644.

This week I’m going to talk about beauty products… shocking I know. Wow. But when I talk about or mention a product, it’s because I highly recommend it. It’s not something I do lightly, and it’s not something money or free things can influence… EVER. Just so you know. I was supposed to attend an Urban Decay in Dublin tonight, but I have so much work to do and I still don’t have my laptop back yet, so honestly, spending a day traveling over 8hrs just to go to an event in Dublin wouldn’t have been worth it. But I’m sure I’ll attend some more beauty events in the future. So back to the products… These products for me have CHANGED MY GAME in the month of September.

Cerave Foaming Face Wash

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter - If you follow me on

- I’ve recently added CeraVe products to my skincare routine, my skin is thriving and I love that for me.

Instagram you know a big focus in my makeup is always the skin. This makes skin look amazing and gives a beautiful luminous youthful glow.

Wella Luxe Oil - Like perfume for the hair, this smells unbelievable, it’s also fantastic for your hair so win win. Note Cosmetics Sculpt Master Mascara - I

recieved this in PR a few weeks ago, I’m full on obsessed. It makes my lashes look like no other mascara I’ve ever tried. HONESTLY.

Ole Henrikesen Banana Bright Primer - I’ve said it

before, I’ll say it again. This stuff is amazing, it’s the only primer that I’ve ever fully used up.

Morphe Beauty Sponge - This guy recently

replaced my (double the price) Beauty Blender. It’s THAT good. I don’t know why I slept on it for so long!

There you have it, all the products that I loved throughout September. I’m excited to see what products catch my eye throughout October. I’m sure there will be some new ones and maybe some old favourites. Who knows? As always you can follow me on instagram @rebeccashortt & @rebeccashorttmakeup for any makeup appointments.

WEIGHT TRAINING Hello strong people! I hope you’re having a great week. This week I’m going to to talk about the importance of knowing what you’re doing at the gym, AKA having a plan. When it comes to going to a gym, knowing why you’re there and having specific goals is essential. There’s no point in going to the gym and hopping from machine to machine not really knowing what you’re doing or why you’re there, you’re wasting your own time and money. I’m not saying you have to go out and spend a fortune on a personal trainer 5 days a week, unless you want to. But I am saying definitely talk to someone with knowledge so that you can gain the most from your money spent. Here are my top tips for getting the most out of going to the gym…

1. Sit down, and ask yourself what you want: What do you want to gain from going to the gym? Do you want to lose body fat? Gain muscle? Put on weight? Feel good? Knowing what you want from going to the gym is the first step. 2. Talk to a trainer: Whether it’s one of the people who work in your gym or another personal trainer, I think it’s very important to talk to someone in the know about what you want to achieve from going to the gym. Most gyms I have been in offer free consultations with their trainers where you can talk about what you want etc. Otherwise you can contact a personal trainer and have a once off consultation where they will make you a gym programme and talk to you about food and your own personal diet. You can go to a personal trainer as

often as you like, you don’t have to go 5 days a week. 3. Set goals: Once you meet the trainer make sure to set goals that fit you and what you want from going to the gym. And I’m not talking long term unachievable goals, I'm talking realistic short term ones to keep you motivated. 4. ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN: Whenever you are going to the gym, always have a plan of what you are going to do, for example, leg day, hiit cardio, arms and chest etc. By having a plan you know exactly what you are there to do and it will keep you on track and focused.

Add the mushrooms, raise the heat to high and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, bay leaves and thyme and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the wine and cook until evaporated, scraping up any browned bits, about 5 minutes. Answer If your builder is unwilling to compensate you, you may be able to make a claim against them using the small claims procedure. The aim of this procedure is to provide an inexpensive, fast and easy way for consumers to resolve disputes without a solicitor. The maximum amount you can claim for under the small claims procedure is €2,000. The small claims procedure is provided through local District Court offices. If you have purchased goods or services for private use from someone selling them in the course of business, you can make a claim using the small claims procedure. You can make claims for bad workmanship, minor damage to property, faulty goods and for the non-return of rent deposits for certain kinds of rented properties, for example, a holiday home. Businesses can also use this procedure to make claims against other businesses about contracts for goods or services purchased. To make a claim, you need to complete the application form and submit it and a fee of €25 to the Small Claims Registrar. You can do this online at the Courts Service Online website, csol.ie. Alternatively, you can download the application form from courts.ie or get a copy from the Small Claims Registrar at the District Court office. Make sure you include the correct name and address of the company or person you are claiming against. You can double-check this information on the Companies Registration Office website at cro.ie. The Registrar sends a copy of your application to the person you are making the claim against. If the other person does not reply within 15 days of receiving your application, your claim will be automatically treated as undisputed. Then the court will make an order in your favour for the amount claimed, and direct that it be paid within a specific period of time. If your claim is disputed, the Registrar will give you a copy of the reasons why the other person is disputing your claim. The Registrar will try to negotiate a settlement to the dispute. If no settlement can be reached, the matter is set for a court hearing in the District Court.

T ! business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read Get your 34 O R Q U I N G C A R S WHY DIESEL FUMES ARE 'IMPROVING AIR QUALITY'

It sounds outrageous but a world figure on motoring claims emissions from diesel cars are now so clean they are "improving" the quality of air in many polluted European cities.James Turner is professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Bath's Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre. In the course of an informal interview with him in Sofia last week, he told us: "Diesel cars are improving the quality of air in some European cities, because their tailpipe emissions are cleaner than the atmosphere into which they are being ejected." When asked to explain how this could be, he said it is often overlooked that non-engine-related emissions can have a heavy impact on the environment. They include the polluting effects of brake-pad wear/ use, the combination of chemical reactions when tyres come in contact with road surfaces and so on. "All of those emissions build up."He claimed such background pollutants mean the air in many cities is 'dirtier' than the exhaust emissions from current diesels, which are 'clean' by comparison. His extraordinary claim - bound to be criticised and rebutted by many - came as he warned the current fixation with diesel needs to be looked at more rationally. He sees a big role for clean diesels as we bridge the gap towards the electrification of transport. He said we need to get back to basics with fossil fuels: just how much do diesel, petrol and electric vehicles consume overall - in manufacture and use?He was speaking in Bulgaria as he detailed how the new Mazda Skyactiv-X engine works. He described it as a "halfway house between petrol and diesel with the benefits of both".But he said the system would not work were it not for some of the most sophisticated computer technology ever assembled on a mass-produced small family car.(Indo Motoring )

NO PETROL !-IT'S HYBRID ONLY FOR TOYOTA COROLLA AND C-HR FROM NOW ON

Toyota is to drop petrol engines from two of its big-selling ranges in favour of hybrid-only lineups. The Corolla and C-HR ranges will only have hybrid models from next year. The company has decided to stop selling the 1.6-litre and 1.2-litre petrols in the Corolla (saloon, hatchback respectively) amid increased demand for hybrid-powered models. And the C-HR family SUV/ crossover switches to hybrid only as its 1.2-litre petrol version is to be dropped.Toyota Ireland says that the "unprecedented demand for hybrid eliminates the need for the petrol option". Its decision to end petrol sales in such key model ranges comes 16 months after the company announced it was stopping diesel-car production. In a comment that may irk some competitors, Toyota Ireland chief executive Steve Tormey claimed that if all other automakers offered a full range of hybrids "Ireland's environmental outlook would immediately be a lot rosier". He said hybrids, exclusively automatic, have several advantages over pure fossil-fuelled vehicles. They include fuel efficiency, low NOx and zero emissions' mode driving for 60pc of the time.Mr Tormey added: "Some might say this is a brave move given the perceived market dependency on pure fossil-fuel powered cars, but for us the decision to double down on self-charging hybrid over petrol makes absolute sense. The numbers don't lie."He predicted that 92pc of their passenger car sales across all models next year will be hybrid. From 2020, the only petrols in the Toyota lineup will be the Yaris 1-litre petrol and Aygo. So far this year, more than 85pc of Corolla and 90pc of C-HR sales have been hybrids.(Eddie Cunningham , Indo Motoring )

HONEST JOHN WHAT IS THE LONG TERM LIFE OF EV BATTERIES?

I am selling my Audi A4 Allroad 3.0 TDI and am trying to decide upon either a hybrid or EV. Is there any data available on the rate of decline in performance of EV vehicle batteries? I note Hyundai and Kia offer seven and five-year vehicle warranties. If their EV batteries fail after, say, seven years I would potentially have a scrap vehicle on my hands unless I am missing something or am I being overly cautious? Asked on 1 October 2019 by TONY H.J. says : Hyundai actually offers an eight-year, 125,000-mile warranty for the batteries in its electric models. Toyota offer 15 years ! Batteries tend to degrade over time rather than suddenly stop working - so it's unlikely that a battery will fail if it's in good health before its warranty expires. Early examples of the Nissan Leaf are now eight-years old and we don't receive many reports of issues with the batteries, so I wouldn't be too concerned. You'll also save a lot of money in fuel and servicing over the years so that should go a long way towards offsetting the cost of new batteries if required.

IS A NORMAL HYBRID OR PHEV BETTER FOR STOP START DRIVING IN TRAFFIC?

I have a daily commute of approximately 14 miles each way in traffic. I am thinking of buying a hybrid - possibly a Kia Niro. Given the stop-start nature of the driving, what would be best, a selfcharging hybrid or a plug-in? Asked on 1 October 2019 by SurreyKuga H.J. says : It depends whether you can charge a car at home and/or work. If you can, a plug-in hybrid would work very well as you should be able to cover most (or all) of your commute under electric power alone without the petrol engine kicking in. If you can't charge at home or work, you'll be using a lot more fuel to transport heavy batteries that you won't be getting the most out of. In this case, a conventional hybrid makes more sense. The Frenchmen responds "no no! They're naked, so beautiful, they must be French!" PADDY AND MICK WORKED TOGETHER

in an underwear factory and both were laid off, so they went to the unemployment office. When asked his occupation, Paddy answered, "Panty Stitcher. I sew the elastic onto ladies cotton panties and thongs." The clerk looked up panty stitcher on his computer and finding it classified as unskilled labor, he gave him $80 a week unemployment pay. Mick was next and when asked his occupation replied, "Diesel fitter." Since diesel fitter was a skilled job, the clerk gave Mick $160 a week. When Paddy found out he was furious. He stormed back into the office to find out why his friend and co-worker was collecting double his pay. The clerk explained, "Panty Stitchers are unskilled and Diesel Fitters are skilled labor." "What skill?" yelled Paddy. "I sew the elastic on the panties and the thongs. Mick puts them over his head and says: "Yep, diesel fitter!"

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR MANY GO UP THE HILL BUT MARK GOES THE FASTEST:

Firstly the kudos goes to the Tralee Manor West Cycling Club in Tralee for their hosting of a national cycling event. The club was given the honour of hosting the National Hill Climb Championships and a number of the members – and no I am not going to name anyone as I would definitely leave some out and I want to work with them again - put in numerous hours planning for the event to which 70 riders signed up for. While the riders were only on their bikes for between three and a half and seven minutes a lot of planning was needed. Because of the steepness of the course and the effort that the riders needed to get up the hill a defibrillator and a first age crew on stand-by plus an exact timing system that went down to hundredths of a second. Luckily on the day the rain cleared and the scene was set for the battle in an event that is sometimes called the Race of Truth as there is nowhere to hide. And on the day the winner was certainly a worthy one. Mark Dowling, now unattached, was the only rider to ride up the 1.36km climb in under 4 minutes. He stopped the clock in 3.44.876 and was over 18.3 seconds ahead of the local favourite Conor Kissane from the Killarney Cycling Club. His time was 4.03.184. This was Kissane’s third year in a row making it onto the podium but he has never made it to the top step. The winner is also well known on the roads of Kerry in races such as the Ras Mumhan and is the son of Olympians Mick and Emily. His has always been known as a top climber but this was an exceptional time. The podium was completed by James Davenport from Strata3 Velorevolution with Killarney’s Marcus Treacy (4.23.642) and Tralee’s Denis Dunworth 4.44.559 taking 6th and 9th place. There were a number of riders from the host club in each of the categories with Joe Roche 12th in the Senior category followed by John James Griffin 15th, John Roche 17th and Ross Culloty 18th. Friday 4th October 2019

Ciaran Slattery, Stephen Reidy and Paudie O’Sullivan also of the TMW club were 20th, 21st and 22nd. Shane Fleming and Dwayne Griffin were the other Tralee Manor West riders in the senior competition. Kenmare Cycling Club’s Lisa Stapelbroek was the fastest lady in 6.09.337 ahead of TC Racing’s Niamh O’Dywer and TMW’s Catherine Kiely. The M40 section was won by St Finbarrs Stephen Butler while from a Kerry point of view Ronan O’Shea, Cian Hogan, Shane Courtney and Shane Flynn were 11th, 12th, 13th and 16th. Finuge Freewheelers Vinny O’Leary and was 17th. Tom Barrett riding with O’Leary Stone Kanturk and John Barrett from the Currow Cycling Club were 5th and 6th in the M50 Category. Edward O’Mahoney was 10th behind AJ Murphy from Midleton CC who was the winner. Tom Daly from Killarney took second in the M60 category with the legendary Matt Lacey, what a contribution to Kerry cycling the Lacey family have made, 4th ahead of his Tralee Manor West team mate Michael O’Callaghan. Once again a club in Kerry has proved that it is more than capable of hosting a national event with all the competitors who were back in the sponsors Tralee Manor West hotel delighted with the organisation of the National Hill Climb event. There are other events that Tralee should be looking out to host. MOUNTHAWK PARK TO HOST MARK FARRAN CUP FINAL:

Like busses we don’t have any national sporting events in the county for a while and then we have two in a few weeks. John Regan and the KDL were this week given the honour of hosting the Mark Farran 17’s League of Ireland Cup final where Kerry will welcome Bohemians to town. The game is fixed for Sunday October 13th and probably see the biggest every crowd at a Kerry soccer game. Kerry’s path to the final saw them defeat Cobh Ramblers in Round and then two

of the heavy hitters Cork City and Galway United in the Last 8 and Last 4 rounds. The 17’s drew 1-1 with Waterford last Sunday conceding a late late goal and have been drawn away to the same opposition in this Sunday’s Shield Round 1. The big thing is for all the players to come through unscathed. At last Sunday’s game Stephen Loughlin suffered a jaw injury but hopefully its not to serious. In their Shield the 19’s are at home to Cobh Ramblers from 2pm this Sunday. All games from now are knock-out. Cobh were a few points better off than Kerry in the League but realistically if Kerry can have a full panel they are capable of getting a win and extending their season. The Kerry 13’s are away to Waterford on Sunday and the 15’s away to Cork on Saturday as the final competition – the Shield - in their Leagues begin.

GARVEY’S OUTSHINE STAR FOR FIRST LEAGUE WIN: GARVEY'S TRALEE WARRIORS 93 BELFAST STAR 86

The Tralee Bay club will host their Swimmer of the Year Annual Awards Night in conjunction with the Tralee Triathlon Club in the Meadowlands Hotel from 7pm this Saturday night October 5th with tickets costing e20 and must be pre booked. On the night the Swimmer of the Year 2019 will be announced. Once again it is another tight race for the title with 3 points separating 5 swimmers.

This was a big game for the reigning SuperLeague champions following on from their season opening day defeat by UCD Marian. Despite an opening score by the visitors the home side hit 17 unanswered points with Rap Buivydas, Keith Jumper, Jonathan Lawton and Ivan Bogdanovic all scoring. Star fought back but with Jumper ending the first quarter scoring the Warriors led 30-19. The visitors got the first two scores of the second quarter but again the Warriors went on a good run with Quigley, Dick and O’Hanlon scoring the Warriors were ahead by 13 at the half 5441. Belfast fought back and cut the gap to four points but scores from Dick, Jokubaitis, Quigley and Buivydas on the mark they led by 10 with ten minutes to play. This game was of the highest standard and with the Belfast side scoring from play and unerring from the free throw line the gap was down to 6 before a big three pointer from Darragh O’Hanlon eased the tension at the Complex. Belfast never gave up as they were looking to make it two wins from two but a three from distance by Paul Dick and two from two from the line by Lawton saw the home side chalk up a valuable win 93-86. The top scorers for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors were Paul Dick 18 Jonathan Lawton 13 Rap Buivydas 13 while Delaney Blaylock for Star was the games top scorer on 28. CJ Fulton ended with 17 and Keelan Cairns 15. Next up for the Warriors is a road trip to Dublin to face the

The u14 hurlers have qualified for the South Kerry Division 1 Championship final having come from behind to defeat Causeway. The club is looking forward to taking part in the 2019 Veronica Stack Memorial Tournament this Saturday in the Spa GAA Club in Killarney. The u14’s put up a great effort against Killarney in the B County Final. Killarney got two quick goals midway through the first half but the Tralee girls fought back and were unlucky not to able to close the gap at the end of an exciting game. This squad have had a very good year including a successful Feile. Some of the players are underage again next season and some will move up to u16’s with both age groups hoping to continue their great successes. Tralee Parnells will play in the Tom Healy Memorial Tournament this Wednesday which should be an exciting one as both Causeway and Cillard will also be taking part with their new Junior teams. The tournament takes place at the Tralee IT. GOOD LUCK DYNAMIC POWERLIFTING CLUB: Good Luck to Tralee Parnells volunteer coach and mentor and Diarmuid Brennan, who has set up Dynamic Powerlifting Club, in their new location in Tralee. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The club’s annual find-raising Cake Sale will take place on Sunday week October 13th and all baked donations will be most welcome as will your attendance on the day to enjoy the fruits of all the baking. The u6’s enjoyed their two games against Laune Rangers and will play the Legion on October 13th. The 7’s, 8’s, 9’s and 10’s also enjoyed their games against the same club. This Sunday they make their annual trip to Churchill for the Blitz in memory of Siobhan Cotter. The midweek evening football has come to an end but the players are looking forward to the visit of the Killarney Legion. The u12’s long season of 37 weeks came to an end at the Eric Mason Tournament hosted by Ballymac. There were eight teams in the Blitz including a number from outside the county. Despite a great effort the boys missed out on silverware with Claregalway winning the final. The club was delighted with the effort of the players all season. The u13’s played in the Town League final defeating Ballymac 0-12 to 0-07 for a great win by the boys. The u16’s enjoyed their second win in the Town League defeating Ballymac and will be away to Ardfert in their final game this Sunday. The club is looking for young members to take part in the Tralee District Area of Scor na nOg.

ST PAT’S NEWS There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 19,21,22 and 24 and the next Jackpot will be e2100 with the draw taking place this Sunday night in Skelper Quanes. In the Academy there was a great crowd for the u6’s with Devran being named as the Player of the Week. They train again this Sunday at 10.30am. The u8’s and u10’s put in another good session despite the showers and are back again this Sunday morning. The seniors Round 11 County League Division 3 game against Firies has been confirmed for the first weekend of November after the completion of the County Championship. St Brendan’s Board were defeated by South Kerry in Round 2A of the Garvey’ Senior Football County Championship 1-12 to 1-09. St Pat’s have a number of players on the squad who will now face Shannon Rangers in Round 3 this Saturday at 5pm in Austin stack Park with extra time to be played if needed. KERRY COLLEGE AND THE KERRY COUNTY GAA BOARD PRODUCING REFEREES OF THE FUTURE This week saw the launch of another unique and innovative collaboration between Kerry College and the Kerry County GAA Board. To ensure a steady provision of professionally trained referees; the College has teamed up with the County Board to offer students studying on the QQI GAA Coaching & Sports Development course an opportunity to undertake training and attain the GAA Refereeing certification as an integral part of their course. According to Mary Lucey, Principal Kerry College, Clash and Denny Street Campuses: "Kerry College is delighted to be involved in the nurturing and cultivation of the future cohort of GAA referees. This is a wonderful opportunity for students as it will mean that they can offer their services as referees to the County. To launch the new collaboration, St Pat's GAA Club in Blennerville has offered a GAA Scholarship to cover the full cost of studying on the programme for the academic year. As part of the scholarship the recipient will provide support to the sponsoring club through the provision of refereeing services; enabling the student to gain first hand experience on the field. Jimmy Mulligan, Chairperson of St Pat's added "Our aim is that other GAA clubs across the county will come on board supporting students in furthering their education in the GAA Coaching and Sports Development arena. Through this collaboration, the GAA will be sure of a constant stream of highly qualified referees to make consistent and informed decisions and act at all times with integrity both on and off the pitch. The County Board will provide expert training and workshops from

top level national GAA referees tutors as part of the initiative." A limited number of places remain available on the course; apply now at kerryfe.ie KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: Played in very tough conditions the seniors lost out to Dingle 2-09 to 1-11 in the Garvey’s Supervalu County Senior Football Championship Round 2A. Paul Geaney’s goal was the difference at the break with Dingle leading 1-05 to 0-05. A goal early in the second half put the home side in control but the Tralee players fought back and when Ryan Caroll netted from the penalty spot there was one point between the side. Gearoid Savage was unlucky not to send the game into extra time when his 45 into the rain fell just short. Dingle is now into the quarter final with O’Rahillys drawn to face East Kerry in Round 3. This game is scheduled for Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening at 7pm. In the Ladies section the u8’s and u10’s were at Na Gaeil for an enjoyable morning of action and this Sunday afternoon it’s the Go Games. The u12 Girls went down at home to Austin Stacks in Round 3 of the Town League and are at home to Na Gaeil in the next round. U12 development continues in Ballyrickard next Saturday at 9.45 for girls born in 2007. West Kerry are not entering the u13 competition. Therefore, there no longer will be a preliminary round. The semi-finals will be in John Mitchels’ Complex this Saturday, October 5th. The u14’s were due to play Austin Stacks in the playoff of the North Kerry League Division 1 Shield. The u16 girls played Castleisland Desmonds in Round 4 of the North Kerry League in tough conditions. The Castleisland side only had 13 players so the game was played in this format and they were 5 points up at the break. After a couple of positional switches at half time the girls got back into the game and over turned the deficit to win by 5 points 4-06 to 2-07. Our last match is coming up this week against Na Gaeil and it’s a game all of the players are looking forward to, especially as it has a local derby element to it If we reproduce the second half performance we did the last night, any team will have their work cut out to beat us. The senior ladies had their day out last Saturday when they headed out to Killarney for the day. An enjoyable day was had by all. In the Academy the trip to Laune Rangers had to be cancelled and will be rescheduled. They have plenty to look forward to with a few days out and a Halloween Party to come. pairs of Ger O’Connor & Declan Kelly along with Kieran Fitzpatrick & Noel Moynihan were the ones to travel from the Killarney club to the Glanmire course as in the end Ger & Declan were one shot better than their club-mates in the overall classification. 2014 winners of the Mixed Foursomes event Tralee’s Tony Blake & Lisa O’Connor were a shot off a prize in the Mixed section with their score of 85 points. Elsewhere a group from Listowel and Newmarket travelled to take part in an International Open in Holland in Koudum at the weekend where a week after winning the Dutch Strokeplay, Listowel native Declan McCarron finished second overall in the event. In the U-18 category, Listowel trio Jake Shine, Bobby McCarron and Trevin Chute completed a 1-2-3 as Jake’s score of seven over par was ninth best in the tournament overall. The coming month of October sees the year wind down in a lot of respects with the Tralee Scratch Mens team playing in the National Inter-Club QuarterFinals in Lakeside, Templemore, Co Tipperary on Sunday October 13th while the Deerpark Open Three Ball Scramble and Scratch Cup events on the October Bank Holiday Weekend mark the last major fixture of the year locally. TRALEE GOLF CLUB: In the Men’s
