Rory Conway, affectionately known as “The Miracle Boy,” is set to take centre stage once again — this time lending his voice to a special fundraising album representing Disabilities of Ireland.
Rory’s story is one of courage and inspiration. After contracting meningitis at just two and a half years old, he was left with a brain injury and has since undergone eight major brain operations. Despite these challenges, Rory’s determination and love for music have carried him across an incredible journey.
Music has always been a huge part of Rory’s life. Alongside his father, acclaimed singer-songwriter Francie Conway, he has performed on stages across the world and taken part in numerous recording sessions. Rory lives with cerebral palsy and a visual impairment and currently attends Enable Ireland’s Rialto Hub Adult Service.
In addition to his music, Rory has completed seven Dublin City Marathons with Team Rory, with one event helping fund the creation of a gym at Enable Ireland Crumlin.
For this latest project, Rory will perform “Crazy World” — the iconic song written by his close friend Christy Dignam and the members of Aslan. Through this heartfelt performance, Rory continues his mission to share the power of music and hope with as many people as possible.

Ballyroe Lodge Hotel will come alive with glitter, glamour, and glorious footwork on Saturday, 25th October 2025, as 13 dazzling couples take to the floor for “Strictly the Best” in memory of the late Liz Best. Organised by Liz’s daughter Karen Best, along with her committee; secretary Helena Clifford, treasurer Shirley Morris, and social media lead Joe Burkett, the event is a heartfelt celebration of Liz’s remarkable life and her deep-rooted ties to the communities of Ballyduff and Ardfert. The night will also raise vital funds for the Kerry Cancer Support Group Health Link Transport, a cause that was close to Liz’s heart.
“My mother was a great community person,” Karen shared. “She was a proud Ballyduff and Ardfert woman. And, this year in honour of my mother, we as a family wanted to put on a fundraiser for the Kerry Cancer Support Group Health Link Transport. The charity was close to my mother’s heart and we wanted to give back.”
“Liz was a fabulous lady who was full of life, fun, and laughter,” Creative Director, Joe Buckett said. “We promise plenty of that on the big night. Karen, who cared for her mother so lovingly, is putting her heart and soul into this, and I know that Liz would be so proud of her girl.”
Kerry Cancer Support Group was established in 2007 and has been providing free transport to hospitals in Kerry, Cork and Limerick since 2010, helping patients from Kerry, West Cork, and West Limerick access over 70,000 cancer-related appointments since foundation.
Their motto — “No one should face their cancer journey alone” — is reflected in every journey taken.
“We are delighted to be the beneficiary of Strictly the Best. It is a very community-based fundraiser and we are a community supported charity. Their support will allow us to transport hundreds of patients
to thousands of vital hospital appointments. The funding and awareness raised from the event is greatly appreciated by the charity and its service users.” Breda Dyland Kerry Cancer Support Group. Ballyroe Lodge is honoured to host such a meaningful and uplifting event. As a hotel deeply rooted in the Kerry community, they are proud to provide the setting for a night that celebrates community spirit. The hotel hosted an elegant drinks reception and canapés in their newly renovated lobby to mark the announcement of “Strictly the Best” where organisers, dancers and supporters, including Kerry
Footballer, Joe O’Connor, gathered to celebrate the exciting event ahead.
In addition to transport, Kerry Cancer Support Group offers support and information to families, schools, and community groups throughout the region. Their welcoming centre on Maine Street, Tralee is open to all and provides a safe space to talk, ask questions, or simply connect.

The Kerins O’Rahillys Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others (G4MO) team hosted a deeply moving and uplifting Football Blitz on Sunday, October 5th, in loving memory of their cherished friend and teammate, Alison O’Sullivan.
Held at the Strand Road grounds in Tralee, the event drew teams from across Kerry for a day that beautifully combined sport, friendship, and remembrance. Participating clubs included St. Pats, Austin Stacks, Moyvane/Knockanure, Ballymac, Churchill, Abbeydorney, and John Mitchels, all joining Kerins O’Rahillys to celebrate Alison’s memory through the spirit of the game. The day began with a warm welcome and group warm-up led by George, before matches commenced across two pitches. Games were played with enthusiasm, laughter, and encouragement — a reflection of the G4MO ethos of participation, fun, and inclusion.
One of the day’s highlights was the Crossbar Challenge, where players
tested their skills and accuracy. Michelle Carroll of Abbeydorney emerged victorious, proudly receiving the Alison O’Sullivan Memorial Trophy from Amelia, Alison’s daughter, in a touching and emotional moment.
After the matches, players, families, and supporters gathered in The Klub for refreshments, live music, and a raffle, creating an atmosphere filled with warmth and camaraderie. The
event raised an impressive €4,350, with all proceeds going to Palliative Care Tralee, a service that provided exceptional care to Alison and continues to support families across the county.
Organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed, including players, referees, volunteers, and sponsors. Special thanks were extended to Frank O’Connor for his invaluable
help and to Alison’s family for their presence and support.
The blitz was a fitting tribute to a woman who embodied everything that makes G4MO special — positivity, inclusivity, and friendship. Alison’s spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her, making the day a true celebration of life, community, and love — just as she would have wanted.

Kerry will come alive with fire, folklore, and festivity this autumn as Samhain Chiarraí – A Kerry Halloween takes place from 16th October to 9th November 2025, celebrating the county’s ancient traditions and cultural spirit. As one of Fáilte Ireland’s selected destinations for the Home of Halloween pilot scheme, Samhain Chiarraí aims to establish Kerry as a key part of Ireland’s authentic Halloween heritage. Inspired by the Cailleach Chiarraí – the wise and wild Goddess of Winter who signals the turning of the Celtic year – the festival will showcase the origins of Samhain through a blend of art, myth, and community celebration.
Highlights include new immersive experiences in Tralee, Killarney, and Listowel, featuring street processions, awakening spectacles, fireworks, céilís, willow workshops, and treasure hunts. Kerry County Council is also supporting community festivals such as Féile Eile (Killorglin), Halloween Howl (Kenmare), and the Sneem Storytelling Festival.
Cathaoirleach Cllr. Mike Foley said the festival “brings families, schools, and communities together to create new memories while honouring our shared heritage.”
Uniting ancient customs with modern creativity, Samhain Chiarraí promises a uniquely Kerry
belonging.

History beckoned for Kerry FC as they travelled to Tallaght Stadium for their first-ever FAI Cup semi-final against giants Shamrock Rovers. Excitement swept through the Kingdom, with fans daring to dream of one more miracle in what had already been a fairy-tale Cup run. Having survived a dramatic late free kick against Athlone, beaten Cobh for Munster bragging rights, and staged an unforgettable comeback against Sligo, Kerry entered the semifinal as massive underdogs — but with unshakable belief.
From the outset, the newcomers showed courage and composure. The travelling supporters, loud and proud, transformed Tallaght into a pocket of Tralee spirit. Kerry held firm early on, but Rovers’ experience soon told, with Graham Burke striking twice before Michael Noonan added a third before halftime.
Even at 3–0 down, Kerry’s determination never wavered. They continued to play their football, pressing high and showing the bravery that has defined their rise.
After Rovers extended their lead through a Dylan Watts penalty, Kerry responded instantly. Daniel Okwute was fouled, and Joe Adams coolly converted from the spot to make it 4–1, sending the away end into raptures.
Despite Rovers adding two more goals, the night ended in pride, not despair. Kerry’s fans sang to the final whistle, applauding their heroes for a remarkable journey. (Final score 6-1)
While the scoreboard favoured Rovers, the spirit, unity, and belief of

With the economy facing an international headwind, the budget represents a more cautious approach. The much-muted VAT rate reduction to 9% for Food, Catering and hairdressing sector has been introduced but only from the 1st July 2026. For most businesses the increase in minimum wage will negate the benefit, but given itʼs a permanent change will be widely welcomed.
Aside from increases in social welfare and those who benefit from 9% VAT rate it offers little to individuals, farmers and other sectors who are largely ignored. The Budget focuses on job protection and international growth but is unlikely to prove popular in more rural communities.
The main discussion points in the budget were as follows:
• VAT Rate reduction from 13.5% to 9% from July 2026
• Minimum wage increased by 65c to €14.15 per hour
• No change to Main Personal Income Tax Rate or Tax Credits.
• Cigarettes increasing by 50c per pack
• Tax on Vapes 50c per millilitre
• Main Welfare payments increased by €10 per week
• No change to Main Personal Income Tax Rate or Tax Credits.
• USC rate of 2% rate band raised by €1,318 to €28,700
• Rent tax credit extended for three years.
• Mortgage Interest tax Credit Extended to 2026
• Main Welfare payments increased by €10 per week
• Christmas payments double for one week in December
• Child Benefit Increased by €16 over 12/ €8 under 12
• Domiciliary Care Allowance increased by €20 to €380 per month
• Weekly Fuel allowance increased by €5 to €38
• €5bn Capital Investment for delivering new homes
• VAT rate on the sale of completed apartments will reduce from 13.5% to 9% until December 2030.
• Derelict property Tax of 7% Market Value to be Introduced in 2027 replacing Derelict Site Levy

• Pension Auto Enrolment to start January 1, 2026
• Extension of 9% reduced VAT rate for gas and electricity
Motoring
• The €10,000 Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) on the Original Market Value for electric cars will remain for 2026, reducing to €5,000 in 2027, €2,500 in 2028 and end in 2029.
• Carbon Tax for Petrol and Diesel will increase from €63.50 to €71.00 per tonne.
• Entrepreneurial Relief reformed and extended from €1 million to €1.5million

“Invest in our future while securing the jobs, prosperity and stability of today” .
– Minister Pascal Donoghue
“This budget included a lot of mentions about “targeting the most vulnerable” but when it comes to housing there was no targeting towards providing more low-cost or affordable housing for people who are struggling every day”
– Mike Allen, Focus Ireland Director of Advocacy
“Global economic uncertainty presented government with a trade off in Budget 2026, and it is clear today that VAT measures have trumped personal taxes in the need to protect employment.”

KERINS O’RAHILLYS GAA NOTES
Barrett
Beaufort’s three goals proved crucial in their 3-12 to 1-13 win over Kerins O’Rahillys in the Barrett Cup final. Despite leading early, O’Rahillys were rocked by a first-half goal and went in 0-11 to 1-02 at the break. A secondhalf penalty goal from Conor O’Sullivan offered hope, but Beaufort’s back-toback goals sealed the result. O’Sullivan was outstanding, finishing with 1-08. Young players Seán O’Mahony and Brayden Pierce impressed with their energy.
Our Senior Ladies fell short in the Junior B Championship Final against Glenflesk (3-11 to 1-10). Despite a strong first half, a late goal before the break proved costly. It’s been a brilliant season, reaching three major finals. Management thanked players for their commitment and are optimistic for 2026.
Kerins O’Rahillys G4MO hosted a heartfelt blitz in memory of teammate Alison O’Sullivan. The day saw clubs from across Kerry gather for fun, friendship, and football. Michelle Carroll (Abbeydorney) won the Cross Bar Challenge and was presented the Alison O’Sullivan Trophy by Alison’s daughter, Amelia. €4,350 was raised for Palliative Care Tralee.
PARNELLS HURLING AND CAMOGIE CLUB
Junior Camogie History was made on Friday night as
our Junior Camogie team reached the Aspen Grove Junior Championship Cup Final for the first time! After last week’s postponement, they returned ready to face Storm Amy and a tough Causeway side in Caherslee. Battling strong winds in the first half, they trailed by just one at the break. A powerful second-half performance full of grit and teamwork saw them emerge deserving winners. Huge thanks to Causeway, referee John Hennessy, and Joe Wallace for accommodating us. All eyes now on next Friday’s final vs. Cillard — venue and time TBC. Let’s get out and support the girls!
Healthy Club
We’re proud to have retained Gold Status in the GAA’s Healthy Club initiative — the highest recognition possible. Well done to Health & Wellbeing Officers Catriona, Tara, and all involved. The club will be honoured in Mallow on October 14th.

Our U9s had a brilliant trip to Club Naomh Fionnbarra, Cork, reaching the Canty Cup final and narrowly losing by a single point. Great memories made. The Rock U10 Garry Fernane and John Galvin Cups continue this Sunday at 10:50am in Caherslee with four 8-a-side teams. All support welcome.

Thank you to all U12 players and mentors for their hard work throughout the season.

Well done to our U16s who defeated Churchill 5-14 to 3-6 in the Championship, followed by a strong challenge match win over Kilcummin. We face Na Gaeil in the Tralee/St Brendan’s semi-final this Sunday in Connolly Park at 11am. Preparations also continue for our County League Division 2 semi-final later this month.

Austin Stacks Power
Past Milltown/Castlemaine
Garvey’s SuperValu Senior County Championship
Austin Stacks made a stunning return to senior championship football with a 4-29 to 0-17 win over Milltown/ Castlemaine. With 9 debutants starting, the Rockies produced a dominant first-half display, leading by 30 points at half-time (3-23 to 0-02). Goals came from Purcell, Lane, Fitzmaurice, and late sub Jack Murphy. Despite a spirited second-half response from Milltown/ Castlemaine, the result was never in doubt.

Youth Arts Festival - there's something for everyone!
This hugely popular play makes its Kerry debut in Siamsa Tíre telling the story of four Ireland rugby players and eight fans as they travel to Chicago to make sporting history as Ireland is set to play the All Blacks (in 2016). Left reeling from the tragic death of coach and mentor Anthony ‘Axel’ Foley, the players and fans pay a fitting tribute to one of their own.
