MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Marie has had a child with a partner David from whom she is separated. They were never married or cohabited. He had paid some money towards the child’s needs when the child was first born but the child is now five and she has received nothing for years. She is wondering what she can do to obtain financial support from the father of the child.
Maintenance legislation provides that parents whether male or female have to provide for their children and usually the money is paid to the party who has the day to day care of the child. This obligation lasts until the child is 18 years or 23 years if in full time education. If a child has special needs the obligation may be ongoing for their lives. There are no set amounts in relation to maintenance but rather it is assessed by a court dependent on the mother ‘s and father’s income, outgoings, assets and liabilities. Even if a party has a lot of debt there are still expected to provide for their children as a priority. The parties can come to an agreement as between themselves or through mediation without going to court with full disclosure of all financial information between themselves. Any agreement can be made a rule of court to make it legally binding. Moreover it is based on the current or future needs of the child so usually the maintenance can only be legally enforceable from the date of the application. So if maintenance is not being paid action should be taken as soon as possible. Whereas in this case David is not paying any maintenance Marie can apply to court for a maintenance order to help provide for the child. She needs David’s up to date address to be able to serve him with the maintenance summons. The Court will then order that David pay a regular weekly amount towards the child’s needs based on his income, outgoings, assets and liabilities including whether he has any other dependents. The maximum order for the child per week through the District Court is €150 per week. If application is made in the Circuit or High Court there is no limit on the weekly maintenance that can be ordered. Marie can also apply to get a once off lump sum up to €15,000. The Court can specify further how this sum can be used. In addition application can be made for a contribution towards birth or funeral expenses if the child died up to €2000. If a person is unhappy with the maintenance order made it can be appealed to the upper court. If David refuses to pay the order application can be made to court to attach his earnings or to apply to enforce the order through fine/imprisonment. If David were to move abroad after an order was made that order can be enforced through the European Union and the USA.

DANISH HOME RETAIL BRAND, JYSK, SEARCHES FOR NEW STORE LOCATION S FOR RAPID IRISH EXPANSION
Following the successful opening of four Irish stores, Danish home retail brand, JYSK, is calling on Irish landlords to get in touch about available retail properties across Ireland to meet its rapid expansion plans. Earlier this year, JYSK announced plans to open 15 Irish stores within 2 years, but it now has its sights set even higher. JYSK is now aiming to open 40 stores over the next three to five years, with a forecasted turnover of €70 million, creating hundreds of new jobs.
The brand will host a meet and greet with potential landlords in the Red Cow Moran Hotel, 22 Naas Road, Dublin 22, on Monday, 16th September, 2019, from 9am. Landlords from across the country are invited to come along, meet with the JYSK team and present their available properties on the day. Irish customers have

embraced JYSK since it opened its first store in Naas in April 2019. In its opening month, the Naas store performed second best out of 1,200 stores across the JYSK Nordic division of the JYSK Group. With four new stores due to open in the next five months in Sligo, Waterford, Cork and Limerick, JYSK Ireland wants to reach and exceed the initial, ‘15 store openings in two years’, business plan it set when it arrived in Ireland. However, Poul Erik Larsen, Expansion Director at JYSK, has highlighted a number of issues that could hinder the company’s growth here, saying:
“It has been very difficult, time consuming, and expensive to open new stores in Ireland. We have noted that in other parts of Europe we can issue and sign a lease contract within 2-4 weeks, whereas in Ireland, this is taking up to 16 weeks in some cases. To achieve the volume of stores we want in the Irish market within 2-3 years, we need to secure a steady flow of new locations and that is something we’re actively pursuing right now.”
Adding to this, Roni Tuominen, Head of Retail at JYSK Ireland, said: “The appetite for JYSK’s offering is there

amongst Irish consumers, and we have seen this in our revision of forecasted figures for 2019, which have been increased by almost 50%. Unlike some other large retail brands, we want new JYSK locations in towns and cities all over Ireland, so we can contribute to the local economy, especially in smaller communities where our job creation will be extremely valuable.”Founded in Denmark in 1979 by Lars Larsen, JYSK’s Scandinavian design ethic and stylish approach to interiors has made the brand known and loved across the world. Over the past four decades, JYSK has expanded to 52 countries, with more than 2,800 stores worldwide
employing 23,000 people. The interiors range at JYSK includes of-the-moment trends, and Nordic design pieces such as end tables and dining tables in wild oak. JYSK also enjoys a worldwide reputation for expertise and knowledge in sleeping culture, and offers everything from mattresses to frames and bases.
Do you have a property or location that would be suitable for a JYSK store? Register to attend the “meet the landlord” day in the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin on Monday, 16th September, from 9am, by contacting Jenny Johnston at jjoh@jysk.com.

I hope you’re all having an amazing week.
It's no secret I love makeup. I love full glam, lashes, highlight that you can see from space and eyeshadow blended to perfection. This week I’m just going to give a few general tips on how to look after your skin better!
I always cleanse my skin twice a day and make sure my skin is completely clean going to bed but I still feel sometimes my skin needs a break.
when you're not wearing makeup, you still need to cleanse tone and moisturise your skin every morning and night. There is dirt everywhere and that dirt will build up on your skin if you don't clean it.
- Staying hydrated is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your skin. You could use the most expensive products in the world but if you're not drinking enough water your skin will look dull and dehydrated.
There's no better feeling than my skin after a facemask. Although I would like to say I do one once a week, I don't. When choosing a facemask, make sure to choose one that will suit your skin type. If you have dry skin, choose a hydrating mask such as the Glam Glow Thirstymud. If you have acne prone skin, choose a clarifying mask such as the Ole Henrikesen Cold Plunge Pore
Mask. My tried and trusted facemask brands include, GlamGlow, Lancôme, Clarins, Trilogy and Ole Henrikesen. Not saying I spend a fortune on skincare but I definitely spend that bit extra. Obviously some of the cheaper priced brands are decent, but just make sure to do a bit of research before using them. Your skin will thank you.
If you've never had a facial and are looking to treat yourself, I would highly recommend it. Also if you have no idea about products or what skin type you have it's great to get a facial as the person doing it will tell you everything you need to know about your skin.

So last week I talked about being consistent and the importance of consistency. This week I ‘m going to talk about how you can track your progress without the scales.
THE WEIGHING SCALES - just a word. But to some people, it’s a big scary word. Now personally, I think… if you are unhealthy, overweight, underweight or just generally not living a healthy lifestyle, a good starting point is to know your weight. Not because your weight defines anything or makes you ‘fat’ or ‘skinny’ but because knowledge is power. For years I avoided the scales, I wasn’t aware of what my weight was and I feel like I was just ignoring it. Ignorance is bliss and all that jazz. But one day I decided, ‘right every day for a month I will weigh myself’ - now again, this might not be a good idea for some people because they could become obsessed with numbers… but, for me it gave structure, accountability and power. I like to know my weight but I don’t just rely on that, it’s one of many things I am aware of. I know that weight loss does not mean fat loss and that the numbers on the scale can actually be misleading.
So say you want to be more accountable and knowledgeable, but you know that weighing yourself on a scales isn’t the best option for you… here’s what you can do.
The first thing you can do is get out your measuring tape and measure yourself. If
you don’t have a measuring tape, go to Byrnesworth in the square, they have them for less than 3 euro. Now, you have your tape so you’re ready to go. Personally, I like to measure myself first thing in the morning before any food, to get the most accurate measurements to track. I measure the smallest part of my waist, around my bellybutton for my hips, one of my upper arms and my thigh. Then write them down, and retake your measurements once or twice a month.
I love a good progress picture. They’re really helpful, especially if you’re feeling unmotivated. Again, take the picture at a certain time of the day and then make sure the ‘progress’ one is taken at the same time, preferably in the same outfit and lighting.
Sleep actually tells you a lot about your health. If you are focusing on being a more healthy human being, monitoring how well you sleep can tell you a lot.
What I mean by ‘track progress’ is exercise wise. So say you want your cardiovascular health to improve, run for 5 minutes - see how far you go and how you feel after. Then a few weeks later,

after implementing more cardio into your life, try again, maybe you’ll go twice the distance, maybe you’ll run twice as long. If you want to become stronger, track what weights you lift at the gym, and always push yourself with those weights for a week or two, then try and up the weight slightly, and repeat this… you will become stronger(once you are eating right, sleeping right and being generally mindful of your goals of course).

One night the 96 year old draws a bath, puts his foot in and pauses. He yells down the stairs, "Was I getting in or out of the bath?"
The 94 year old yells back, "I don't know, I'll come up and see." He starts up the stairs and pauses, then he yells, "Was I going up the stairs or coming down?"
The 92 year old was sitting at the kitchen table having coffee listening to his brothers. He shakes his head and says, "I sure hope I never get that forgetful." He knocks on wood for good luck. He then yells, "I'll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door."

He decided one day to go out in his yard and start digging hoping he’d find something, he dug about 10 feet down and found some copper wiring. So he concluded that 100 years ago New York had the worlds first telephone system. He then decided to post about it on the internet. A man in California saw the post and not to be outdone he decided to go out in his yard and dig, About 20 feet down he found some copper wiring, so he concluded that 200 years ago California had the first telephone system. He then decided to post about it on the internet. A man in Texas saw the post and not to be outdone he also went and started digging in his yard. After digging 30 feet down he found nothing so he decided to post about it on he internet. He claimed that 300 years ago Texas had the first wireless telephone system

A burglar breaks into a house and is starting to go through the valuables when he hears "Jesus is watching". He freezes, looking around for whoever said it, but after a minute of silence he starts to think that maybe he imagined it. He goes back to rifling through drawers, stealing the silverware and looking for jewelry when again he hears "Jesus is watching" This time he is sure the sound came from the corner of the room and peering through the darkness he realises it's coming from a birdcage. Giving a sigh of relief he goes over to the cage and sees a parrot inside and the nameplate on the cage reads "Moses" The thief has a little chuckle and says "What kind of person names their parrot Moses?"
He hears a low growl from behind him as the parrot replies "The same kind of people who name a Rottweiler Jesus

This Saturday (31st August) on the eve of the All-Ireland Football Final, one of Gaelic Football’s all-time greats will be celebrated in Croke Park with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Gaelic Players Association (GPA). Former Kerry footballer, John O’Keeffe, will receive the award at the seventh annual GPA Football Legends Lunch. The aim of this popular networking event is to honour football legends for their contribution to Gaelic Games and Irish society.
O’Keeffe was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1969 until 1984. He was

a highly talented midfielder, and one of the most stylish and accomplished full-backs in Gaelic football history. As one of football’s greatest full backs, John has a long list of achievements including: seven All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals; 12 Munster Championship medals; seven National Football League medals; eight Railway Cup medals, and five GAA All Stars Awards. He was also named the Texaco Footballer of the Year in 1975. After retirement, John then went on to manage both Clare and Limerick at county level, and he was part of Kerry’s All-
Ireland winning management team in 2000. He has also been a valued contributor for The Irish Times. The Gaelic Players Association will honour John with the award to celebrate his long-standing career and contribution to football as a player, manager and champion.Paul Flynn, CEO of the GPA, said: “John O’Keeffe’s football career, as a player and manager, has had such a positive impact on so many players and we are thrilled to acknowledge his contribution to the game and Irish society. The Gaelic Players Association is truly honoured to present John with
a GPA Lifetime Achievement Award for 2019.The GPA Football Legends Lunch will take place on Saturday, 31st August on the eve of the All-Ireland Football Final. For the past six years, the GPA has hosted the Annual GPA Legends Lunch (formerly known as the Former Players Lunch) on the eve of the All-Ireland Football Final. The very first GPA Hurling Legends Lunch recently took place on the eve of the AllIreland Hurling Final. Former Tipperary hurler, Tony Wall, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the GPA at that inaugural event.
Ahead of this weekend’s All-Ireland senior football final between Dublin and Kerry, Kerry storyteller Killian Burns, a two-time All-Ireland medal-winning corner back with The Kingdom (1997 & 2000) has written a comic piece called ‘Stopping The Drive For Five’.
The poem, performed recently by Killian at O’Connor’s Pub, Cloghane In West Kerry where he now resides, includes a priest’s sermon, references to Diarmuid Connolly’s US visa, bottled water, referee David Gough and even a dream sequence where ace Dublin attacker Con O’Callaghan goes out to stud in Kerry.
Killian commented, ‘Yerra, we live in hope in Kerry. We all know the facts and the mountain to climb on Sunday. The difference between hope and despair is how you decide to tell the story. This is a story of acknowledging the facts but being hopeful of the outcome. Regardless of the outcome, Kerry’s [position as bastions of Gaelic football is secure.”. Catch Killian performing in his native Sneem in South Kerry from as part of the Sneem International Storytelling & Folklore Festival, taking place from 8th to 10th November.

Despite being heavily involved in developing electric vehicle technology, automotive giant Continental has suggested that hydrogen will be the long-term solution to replace internal combustion engines.Dr Felix Gress, Continental's head of corporate communications and public affairs, said that while fuel cell technology is not yet ready, within the next decade it will become increasingly relevant especially in long-distance passenger cars and trucks.Battery technology will continue to have its limitations, he said, and will not generate enough range for some people's needs.
The major developer and supplier of automotive components has been showcasing new technologies we can expect to appear in cars relatively soon. But for now, at least, the focus remains firmly on battery technology development. Some of it is starting to appear in cars already, including 48-volt drive systems that make it possible to drive longer distances on electric-only power.Up to now that has only been possible using high-voltage drive systems. They tell us the mild hybrid system costs around 25pc less than other and offers 20pc better fuel consumption and emissions compared to combustion engines. Also on the go now is the world's first fully-integrated, highvoltage electric axle drive for mass production, with 120kW and 150kW power outputs.Safety system advancements include a fifth generation radar system that can identify if a cyclist is pedalling up on your blindside in traffic. It can make an emergency stop if you are indicating to turn into the cyclist's path. You'll be able to see better in the car of the future too.Continental has teamed up with Osram to create a "smart digital HD headlamp" that uses more than 8,000 LEDs.Most cars at present have no more than a couple of hundred. But you can't talk about Continental without mentioning tyres. One exercise highlighted how grip levels differ on new and partially worn rubber.Using the same cars we undertook an acceleration and braking test on a wet surface using the same premium tyre but with differing tread wear.Setting a benchmark figure of 20.3 metres braking distance on brand new tyres, it took 2.1 metres longer for me to stop on tyres with 3mm tread depth. It took a whopping further 3.8 metres - a total of 27.2 metres - before I could bring a car with 1.6mm (the legal minimum tread depth) tyres to a halt.Food for thought for anyone looking to eke the last few miles out of their tyres.
Electric cars are losing their value much faster than petrol cars - and nearly as quickly as diesels - according to startling new research. The study by DoneDeal reveals electric vehicles (EVs) are declining in value by 41pc over the course of their first three years on the road. That compares with 24pc of original-value loss by petrol cars and 43pc for the much-maligned diesels. There is huge interest in electric vehicles - recent data from Carzone shows online views increased 1,366pc in the past year - but this latest analysis will raise eyebrows. How can an EV lose value to such an extent that it is nearly as 'bad' as diesel? In a word, technology. It is changing so fast and batteries and range are improving so quickly that older, shorter-range models are suffering. At a time when the Government is feverishly driving uptake of new and used EVs to replace petrols and diesels, the research is likely to encourage some motorists to consider holding on to their fossil-fuel powered motors for another while. They will hope that as EV range and charging facilities improve the level of depreciation will reduce, thereby making purchase a more attractive financial proposition.( Irish Independent motoring Eddie Cunningham )
British tuner Mountune has launched a pair of performance packages for the Mk3 Ford Focus RS, with the more potent M520 boasting 513bhpMountune has just launched a pair of tuning kits for the Mk3 Ford Focus RS, with the most potent version offering a maximum power output of 513bhp. Called m450 and m520, the tuning kits are priced at £2,950 and £5,975 respectively in the UK , and feature larger turbochargers, reworked exhaust systems and upgraded ECUs.The m450 package swaps the Focus RS’s standard turbocharger with a larger BorgWarner unit, specially configured by Mountune. Other additions include a high-flow catalytic convertor, stronger stainless steel hose clamps, and new silicone joiners. The package boosts the RS’s output to 444bhp and 580Nm of torque; up from 345bhp and 470Nm.Mountune is very keen to stress that, to maintain the safety and reliability of the Focus RS’s 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine, buyers must replace the engine’s standard connecting rods and pistons with forged replacements. The tuning firm also advises buyers to fit an uprated intercooler, a freer-flowing intake and a three-inch exhaust system. For those who don’t want to carry out the work themselves, both kits can be purchased with a supplementary fitting cost. The fully-fitted m450 package is priced at £3,995, while the equivalent m520 system costs £8,195. In both cases, the upgrades are installed by specialists at Mountune’s headquarters in Hutton, Essex.Due to the complexity of the upgrades, and the amount of additional performance they produce, both the m450 and m520 tuning packages will void the

came from Elizabeth Coffey and Leah McMahon.
In the other Group Kerry Gold rounded off their games with a good 3-0 win over West Cork thanks to goals from Lucy Burton 2 and Helena O’Donoghue. After the Group games it was semi-final time where Galway caused a surprise beating the MGL (Metropolitan Girls League) and Clare knocking out Limerick Desmond on penalties.
The Shield Final was contested by Tralee Parnells and St Brendans and was won by the Ardfert men. Paul Barrett presented their captain, Noel Linehan, with the Trevor Barrett Memorial Shield and Tadhg Meehan presented the Man-of-theMatch award to Séamus O'Halloran of St Brendans.

COLOURS FLYING HIGH AHEAD OF THE BIG GAME: While it might have been a slow burner the Kerry fans have put up their colours this week. The countdown is nearly over and if you haven’t gotten your tickets by now then it is probably ‘squeeky bum time’. Do you take the opportunity and travel and hit the usual Kerry haunts around the capital in the search for that elusive ticket. Or do you just resign yourself to watching the game in your local or at home? This is the final that everyone wants to see and coupled with the fact that the minors are not in the final this year means that tickets are even scarcer in Kerry. On tickets and the addition of the e10 levy / contribution to the players holiday fund I have to say is something that I disagree with. But it’s not that I don’t think the players and their wives and partners don’t deserve a holiday because that’s the least they should be entitled to after what they put in for the year. I think that the money for the holiday for the 6 teams that reach All Ireland senior finals – the football, the hurling and the Ladies senior final (and yes I do know they are a separate association) should be ring fenced by Croke Park every year.
At a conservative estimate the football and hurling All Ireland finals bring in around e14 million from ticket sales alone and last year there was over 30,000 at the Ladies final. So surely a sum should be ring fenced each year for the finalists. And of course some of that money does find its way to the County Boards and to the clubs but there should be enough for the holidays.
Best Wishes to the Team, Management and Back Room Staff: But all that talk of holidays will be the furthest thing from the player’s minds. They have a game to win and unlike most other counties Kerry will always believe that once they get to Croke Park they can win.
But of course one of the few other sides that always believe they will win once they walk out on the most famous pitch in the country are the Dubs. And they have certainly shown that over the last four years. However making that step into history is never easy as Kerry only know too well. Former Kerry keeper Paudie O’Mahoney was speaking in the build-up to the game and
said that on that faithful day when Kerry’s dreams of 5 were shattered by Seamus Darby’s goal there was a strange atmosphere in the morning when the squad met for breakfast.
I am sure that Jim Gavin will be using the usual sound bites this week saying that it only another game etc but no matter how much try and manage the players the weight of creating history will certainly be on the player’s minds. From a Kerry point of view they are in the ideal place where they are going into the game with only their own expectations to deal with. This is a squad that has gelled quickly and as I said earlier will not lack belief.
We all know that Kerry fans are demanding but even the most ardent of them would have snapped your hand off if you offered them what Peter Keane and his squad have achieved in their first season.
But now they are only 70 minutes from history and we are all behind them. It should make for a fascinating and hopefully a Super Sunday.
CLARE CAPTAIN CAOILFHIONN LEAVES TRALEE WITH WONDERFUL MEMORIES:
The final was as tight an affair with the Banner taking the Bowl after winning on sudden death much to the delight of the players, coaches and supporters. One of the nicest memories of the day was the look of pride on the Clare captains fathers face as she lifted the trophy.
The presentations were made by John Drummey and Alan Cantwell on behalf of the Rose Committee, Bernard Pop Lynch representing Trophy World and Phil Bates from the KSBGL.
The Player of the game in the final went to Galway’s Leah O’Connor with Clare’s Ava O’Driscoll winning the Player of the Tournament. Before handing over the Rose Bowl to Clare captain Caoilfhionn Madden John Drummey on behalf of the Festival thanked all the Leagues for travelling and the KSBGL, the KDL and Tralee Dynamos for hosting the tournament.

CHRISTY LEAHY PARK WILL BE A BUZZ WITH THE BUMBLEANCE TOURNAMENT: With the new soccer season just around the corner one of the final pre-season tournaments of the summer will take place at Christy Leahy Park this Saturday. 32 teams from clubs representing Kerry, Cork and Limerick at u11 and u12 will play on 6 pitches kicking off at 10am. Joining the Kerry clubs in the tournament are teams from Newmarket Celtic, Pike Rovers and Aisling Annacotty.
A large group of volunteers have been involved in getting the grounds under the leadership of Ed O’Regan who is the Tournament Director and Pa Kerins who is working on the facilities. The monies raised from the entry fee of just e2 for adults will go to the Bumbleance Children’s Ambulance Charity with the Bumbleance on site on the day.
COULD WE SEE GARY ON THE AVIVA HALLOWED TURF?

While girls’ soccer was certainly the winner at the inaugural Rose Bowl the facilities at Mounthawk Park and the fact the Roses visited the tournament were some of the other areas of praise from the parents and coaches that attended the tournament.
The fact the one of Tralee Dynamos two pitches was also used and the fact that we have 6 pitches within minutes of each other certainly caught the eye of all those who travelled to Tralee.
The tournament was organised by the Kerry Schoolboys Girls League in association with the Rose of Tralee Committee and sponsored by Trophy World.
The day got off to a glamorous start at Mounthawk Park with the arrival of the Meath and Mayo Roses and their escorts. It was hard to say if it was the mothers – and some fathers – were more excited or the players but the Roses were very generous with their time. In the Group stages Kerry Green were very unlucky to go down by a late deflected goal to eventual finalists Galway but the bounced back with a great win over the Dublin girls thanks to a Leah McMahon goal. They went on to beat Cork 3-0 to take 5th place. The goals against our neighbours
But the day didn’t end there the Clare captain who will have a unique story to tell when next asked to write about what she did during the summer. Luckily her family decided to stay over and so were able to accept the invitation for the Rose Committee to come onto the stage in Denny Street as part of the Parade. All of the Roses over the years were on stage and Caoilfhionn was welcomed with the Bowl by the reigning Rose Kirsten Mate Maher. Members of her family travelled down to see this. The collaboration with the Rose of Tralee makes the Rose Bowl u13 Girls tournament unique and the organisers have confirmed it will take place again next year on the first Saturday of the Festival.
BALLYHEIGUE WIN THE TREVOR BARRETT HURLING TOURNAMENT ON PENALTIES: Six teams contested this year's 7-a-side Trevor Barret Hurling Tournament in Connolly Park on Saturday last -Tralee Parnells, Kilmoyley, Dr Crokes, Ballyheigue, St Brendans and Abbeydorney.

After several exciting games the Trevor Barrett Memorial Cup was won by Ballyheigue. TheIir hurlers defeated Mainistir Ó dTórna in the final. A penalty shoot out decided matters!
Richard Barrett presented the Cup to the Ballyheigue captain with the Man-of-the-Match in the final going to Mike Leane and Playerof-the-Tournament was presented to Cormac Slattery. Tadhg Meehan presented both Ballyheigue players with their awards.

Tralee native Gary O’Neill is certainly enjoying life with Shamrock Rovers as they chase an FAI Cup win that is long overdue. And he was on the mark scoring the first for the Hoops as they defeated Drogheda United. They now make the tricky trip West to Galway who knocked out Cork City for what should be an interesting quarter final. It would certainly be a proud day for Gary, his family and all those who were involved in his career if he can make it to the Aviva for the Cup final in early November, Locally – The Underage League of Ireland season continues this weekend a home game for the 15’s who face Cork City on Saturday at 2pm. The 13’s and 17’s are away to Wexford and Carlow/Kilkenny respectively while the u19’s are free.
Hopefully next week I will be writing about a big win for the 17’s as they will have played their Mark Farran semi-final against Cork City by the time this comes out.
AT THE TRACK:
There is racing at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium this Friday and Saturday night with the first of the 10 races off each night at 7.45pm. There will also be racing on Sunday evening with an 8 race programme beginning at 6.35pm.

PARNELL’S NEWS:
speedy recovery for a wrist injury.

The 15’s defeated St Brendan’s Ardfert in a very competitive game winning by a single point. They did go out of the North Kerry championship 24 hours later losing to Crotta. It was a pity that they had to play the two game so close but the first game was changed due to a clash with the Intermediate game and clashes with other codes. The club is very proud of the Kerry u16 Camogie side and the members of the club that were on the team who were unlucky to go down to Roscommon in the All Ireland u16 Camogie C final played in Sixmilebridge.
The girls put in a great effort all year including a massive second half performance against Mayo. But Roscommon, who had beaten the girls earlier in the season, just had a little too much for the Kerry girls. The management of Joe Walsh and John Sheehan plus Gina O’Donoghue and Sheila O’Sullivan did a great job with the squad all year.
The Kerry u14’s had 5 Parnell’s players on their squad in the Orla McDonagh Cup competition. The girls reached the final losing to Cork having beaten Limerick, Offaly and Waterford.
The u10 hurlers enjoyed taking part in the Donie Brosnan Memorial Tournament hosted by Dr Crokes. Donie was involved in hurling and football all his life and was the grandfather of Kerry footballer Eoin Brosnan. The Tralee side reached the Division 2 final defeating Kilgarvan 4-4 to 1-1 in decider played in the Fitzgerald Stadium. The club also reached the Shield final of the Trevor Barrett Memorial Tournament but despite a great effort they went down to Ardfert. The u21’s will play St Brendan’s this Saturday in the quarter finals of the North Kerry Championship for the Paddy Kelly Perpetual Cup. Those looking to book seats on the train for the Camogie All Ireland should contact the club as soon as possible.

The u8’s played in the Go Games in Na Gaeil. Player of the Week in the u8’s went to Sam Smith. Date for Your Diary: The Run Ballymac will take place on October 13th with details from the club.
KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS:
The club is delighted to have The Kerries Golf Driving Range and Mossie Kelly as their main sponsor. The successful businessman has a life- long association with the club winning three Senior County Championships in the 50’s. In the County Junior Cup a defeat to Beaufort sees the team play in the McElligott Cup. They are due to play their first game in that competition this Friday night August 30th.
Training for the u12’s and u14’s Girls continues this week while the u15’s defeated Legion by 2 points to win the Championship final. The club is delighted that the girls and the management got the reward they deserve for all their hard work over the year.
Training continues for the u16’s and u17’s and the seniors next game is against Mitchels in the North Kerry League.
ALL MAKE IS SAFELY ACROSS THE BAY:
48 swimmers were supported by 18 kayakers and a flotilla from Fenit Lifeboat and others took to the water at Derrymore and were welcomed back onto dry land at Fenit by piper Maura Shortt at the end of this years Across the Bay swimming challenge.
25 of the swimmers were locals and
first timers at the 5km distance and had been training hard to be in a position to complete the swim. And as important as the satisfaction of completing the swim was the fact that all the money raised goes to the RNLI Fenit Lifeboat with the figure over e1700 at the moment. Obviously this is a busy time for many people with the Festival, the final week for holidays and getting the kids ready for going back to school. It did look at one stage that the swim Director Kevin Williams might not have enough volunteers to provide the safety kayaks to ensure the safe hosting of the swim. But once again the volunteers came out in the numbers required and everything went off as professionally as every swim does.
Now while they still have two of the World Series of Swims to fit in when the weather obliges thoughts will soon turn to planning the biggest swim of the year!!! Ok in case I offend anyone I won’t mention it by name but just to say it’s the most wonderful swim of the year!!
EUROPE’S TOUGHEST RACE HEADING FOR KERRY:
The summer cycling series came to an end last night with the Time Trial County Championships and we will have the results next week. Last week it was the Road Race County Championships which was won by Killarney CC’s John Brosnan who was followed home by Conor Kissane with Tralee Manor West’s Cathal Moynihan in third. This week as well riders taking part in the Race Around Ireland will be on the Ring of Kerry as part a marathon 2150km race around the country. The individual race was being led by Germany’s Pierre Bischoff with Aoife Henry leading the Ladies section, Whiteriver Wheelers in front in the two person category and Velo Club Balrothery ahead in the four person category.
KINGDOM WHEELBLASTERS BACK IN TRAINING:
The Kingdom Wheelblasters Wheelchair Basketball club are back in training on Wednesday nights ahead of the National League which begins on September 14th. The Juniors are also back in training in John Mitchels with the club always looking for new members.
MOTORSPORT NEWS:
The Galway Summer Stages Rally took place last Sunday and from a Kerry point of view Colin O’Donoghue was the big winner taking the Class 16A title in his Ford Escort with Kilkenny’s Eddie Doherty on the notes. Alan O’Sullivan and John Courtney were 5th in the same Class in the Honda Civic. Co-driver Damien Fleming on the notes for Stephen McCann fought back from a mechanical problem to take 55th and 4th in Class 5 in the Ford Fiesta R5. James and Tim Kissane were just behind them taking 58th and 6th in Class 11R in their Ford Escort MK2. At the top of the leader board Monaghan’s Josh Moffett and
Andy Hayes were taking their sixth win from seven to take the Triton Showers National Rally Championship in their Fiesta.
ON THE GREENS – PITCH AND PUTT
The Kerry u16 Pitch and Putt team staged an amazing comeback from 14 shots behind Cork after one round to retain their National U16 Inter-County title in Dublin. Cork were in control after the foursomes but really hit form in the singles with the centrepiece being an amazing 8 under par from Robbie Harnett including a HoleIn-One on the 15th. They won by a huge 19 shots from Dublin (could be an omen for this weekend!). In further success Deerpark’s Brian McCarthy won the Helen McMorrow Cup donated by his club for this year’s National u13 Championship.
This Saturday it’s the County Matchplay Championships with the adult competition taking place in Listowel and the u16’s in Deerpark.
ON THE GREENS – GOLF CATLEISLAND GC: The Captains Prize stroke-play Golfer of the Year (Eamon Feeley) was won by Francis McAuliffe with Karl Harnett second and Pat Ruane third. The 12 Hole Captain’s Day competition was won by Jerry Lyons.

TRALEE GC: The Ballyroe Heights Hotel Festival Open Classic was won by the team of Domo Lyne, Mike O’Halloran, Mary Savage and Brid O’Halloran.
The quartet of Derek O’Brien, Colm Sheehy, Aidan McGaley and Geraldine Sheehy were second with John Hayes, Patrick Madden, Jim O’Connell and James Quinn third.
The DCS Open Fourball was won by Paul Corcoran and John Tanner ahead of Keekan O’Connor and John O’Connor. Shane Collins and Michael John O’Sullivan were third with Sean O’Keeffe and Des Fitzgerald in 4th.
The Ceann Sibeal Exchange Singles sponsored by the Tralee Town House was won by Kieran Dinan with Mark Sheehy in second and Edward Deniel third.
Back to School: Many of the players we write about each week in this column will be going back to school. Some will be moving from Primary to Secondary and some moving into exam years. We wish them all the very best for the year, enjoy the experiences, keep up your favourite sport and always remember its ok not to always feel ok and you can always talk to someone.
