Soccer is one of the most physically demanding sports, combining speed, power, agility and endurance. With so much twisting, sprinting, and tackling, it’s no surprise that injuries are common—but many can be prevented with the right approach.
Great celebrations last weekend in the Maharees as SPILLANES Bar & Restaurant celebrated a magnificent 150 years !
At KP Therapy, we focus on building resilience, mobility, and control to protect players from strains, sprains, and overuse injuries. A strong core and hips provide the foundation for explosive movements, while flexibility in the hamstrings, calves, and lower back reduces the risk of muscle pulls. Regular mobility drills and dynamic warm-ups before training prepare the body for action, while proper cool-down and recovery routines help muscles repair faster.
Hydration, sleep, and nutrition also play a vital role in injury prevention. A well-fuelled, well-rested body is far less likely to break down under pressure. For those carrying old knocks or tightness, early treatment and tailored rehab are key—don’t wait until a niggle becomes a sidelining injury.
Whether you’re playing for fun or competition, keeping your body balanced and resilient ensures more time on the pitch, less on the sidelines.
At KP Therapy, we’ve got your back—and your legs too!
Have a good weekend!

Kerry’s 1997 All-Ireland Winning Captain will give his knees a final test by running the Irish Life Dublin City Marathon on Sunday 26th October to raise funds for Kerry Mental Health Association. mLiam Hassett, who’s from Killorglin, lives in Tralee and teaches in Listowel, said, “I’m running the Dublin City Marathon before my knees pack in completely and I’ve chosen to fundraise for Kerry Mental Health Association CLG Killorglin & District Branch. They are fundraising to purchase a bus for Ard Álainn Mental Health Day Centre, a community hub for people with mental health needs, to provide service-users with easy access to appointments and outings. I hope to raise enough money and I’m asking my family, friends and the wider community to help me by donating whatever you can.”
Liam has followed a detailed training programme to ensure that he is not only physically but also mentally ready to take to the starting line on Leeson Street and reach the finish near the RDS on 26th October. Kerry Mental Health Association is a volunteer-led, countywide voluntary organisation that aims to promote good mental health and to actively support people with mental health difficulties and their families and carers by identifying their needs and advocating their rights.

Minister for Children, Disability, Equality and Kerry TD Norma Foley has welcomed confirmation of €214,000 in funding for new vehicles to support vital community services across Kerry. The funding, provided under Measure 2 of the CLÁR Scheme, will deliver four vehicles for local groups offering essential services such as meals on wheels and transport to cancer care treatment centres.
The allocations include: Killarney Community Services (€93,236) for a new wheelchair-accessible 16-seater
bus; Caherciveen Social Services (€50,000); Ard Chúram, Listowel (€42,212); and Meals on Wheels Tralee (€29,516). Minister Foley said the funding represents a significant investment in rural Kerry:
“I welcome confirmation from Minister Dara Calleary of €214,000 for vehicles to support these vital services. These groups provide a lifeline to many people, ensuring access to care, meals, and essential community connections.”
The CLÁR Scheme targets rural areas, funding voluntary organisations that provide transport for medical, therapy, or respite
services, cancer treatment, search and rescue support, or meals on wheels.

TRUMP AND
Trump decides to drop a 100 dollar note from the plane. His wife asks what he is doing. His reply is “I want to make an American happy”
His wife replies back “Why don’t you drop ten 10 dollar notes and make ten Americans happy?” Their daughter gives a suggestion “Why don’t you drop hundred 1 dollar notes and make hundred Americans happy?”
The pilot overhears their conversation and gives his own suggestion on the matter. and says to Trump
“Why don’t you drop yourself from the plane and make all Americans happy?”
“JAMES, YOU’VE BEEN ADOPTED.”
James jumps up, “Adopted! I knew it! I want to meet my biological parents!” Father laughs, “No no, James, we are your biological parents. But you need to get packing, your adoptive ones will be here in an hour.”
SAYS The doctor says, “Larry, everything looks great. How are you doing mentally and emotionally?
Are you at peace with God?”
Larry replies, “God and I are tight. He knows I have poor eyesight, so He’s fixed it so when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, poof! The light goes on. When I’m done, poof! The light goes off.”
“Wow, that’s incredible,” the doctor says. A little later in the day, the doctor calls Larry’s wife. “Bonnie,” he says, “Larry is doing fine! But I had to call you because I’m in awe of his relationship with God. Is it true that he gets up during the night, and poof, the light goes on in the bathroom, and when he’s done, poof, the light goes off?”
“Oh, no,” exclaims Bonnie. “He’s peeing in the refrigerator again!”
Conversation begins and the two hit it off. The blonde eventually asks the man when his birthday is.
“March 1st,” the man replies. Suddenly, the blonde gets up and stomps around the bar before coming back to her seat.
“So when is your birthday?” the woman again asks. Not being too phased by this odd behavior, the man again answers “March 1st.” Again, the blonde woman stomps around the bar, this time louder and longer.
When back at her seat, she angrily demands, “Are you going to tell me your birthday, or are you just going to keep telling me to march around the damn bar again?

Dashcams are increasingly common on Irish roads, and for good reason. Recent proposals reveal that Gardaí are planning to roll out an online portal (expected in 2025/2026) allowing road users to submit dashcam footage of dangerous or reckless driving to help in investigations. Head Topics+3Independent.ie+3Cork Beo+3 These devices offer real benefits: they can pinpoint liability after crashes, speed up insurance claims, deter fraud, and even capture unexpected events. Independent+2123.ie+2 But they also come with legal responsibilities—GDPR looms large. Users must protect privacy, be cautious about sharing on social media, clearly signpost that recording is happening, and make sure data retention follows rules. Independent.ie+2College Times+2 “Sensible dashcam use can help everyone,” says the Road Safety Authority. When used responsibly, they don’t just protect drivers— they help improve road safety for all.
Despite growing interest in electric and hybrid vehicles, secondhand diesels remain popular in Ireland. Diesel cars still make up about 22% of new car registrations, keeping them a common sight on roads.
Many buyers favour diesels for fuel efficiency, especially those driving longer distances or carrying heavier loads. The cost savings on fuel can outweigh higher maintenance, making them economical in rural areas or for work use.
Moreover, the used car market is responding to demand: diesel models with recent service records and low emission levels are still commanding strong prices. Because fewer new diesel cars are being supplied, well-maintained second-hand ones are holding their value.
That said, trends are shifting. Young drivers increasingly favour emission-friendly cars, and diesel’s share is facing steady pressure from electrified options. But for now, diesels remain a practical choice for many when balancing running cost, availability, and performance.
Kerry FC remain 50/1 outsiders to lift their first-ever FAI Cup, according to Ladbrokes, despite a stunning run to the semi-finals. The Tralee-based club, still in its infancy, produced a remarkable comeback against Premier Division Sligo Rovers— overturning a 3–0 deficit—to secure a historic last-four place.
Manager Colin Healy has guided the team from strength to strength, but their biggest challenge yet awaits as they face Shamrock Rovers on Sunday, October 5, with a 6pm kick-
off in Tallaght Stadium. Bookmakers rank Kerry FC behind the remaining three teams, but giantkilling isn’t unheard of—Sporting Fingal famously lifted the trophy in 2009 as a fledgling club.
Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes said: “This Kerry side are on the cusp of a wave. In three short seasons they’ve shown incredible progress, and while 50/1 is a long shot, they have nothing to lose against Shamrock Rovers.”
