...Good News Only!!!
The Rose Hotel team say congrats to Paddy and his Meals on Wheels team The Rose Hotel’s Green Team was delighted to visit Tralee Meals on Wheels with Paudie from the Aqua Dome to congratulate Paddy Kevane and the team on an outstanding achievement, having raised €24,000 through donations collected as part of the Deposit Return Scheme. The story began in July 2024 when The Rose Hotel launched its “Give it Back Club”, an initiative developed by the hotel’s Green Team as part of its ongoing sustainability policy. Through the initiative, recyclable plastic bottles and cans collected at the hotel are donated to Tralee Meals on Wheels, allowing the organisation to benefit from the deposits returned. Inspired by the initiative, Paddy Kevane approached other businesses including the Aqua Dome, and organisations in the area and encouraged them to get involved. The response from the local community has been
tremendous, with the combined donations now generating an impressive €24,000 to support the important work carried out by Tralee Meals on Wheels. To mark the achievement, members of The Rose Hotel team visited Meals on Wheels with some celebratory treats and to personally congratulate Paddy and the team. Paddy Kevane of Tralee Meals on Wheels said: “Sincere thanks to the Green Team at The Rose Hotel for coming up with this great idea. Other businesses have now come on board, and we wish to sincerely thank everyone involved, as these funds have made a great difference to our service.” The Green Team at The Rose Hotel added: “Well done to Paddy and the team for taking this initiative to other businesses and encouraging so many to get involved. We are absolutely delighted that what we
felt was a small initiative has had such a significant impact for Tralee Meals on Wheels.” The achievement is a wonderful example of how a simple
sustainability initiative can grow through community collaboration, delivering both environmental benefits and meaningful support for an invaluable local service.

Tralee Red Cross Volunteers Honoured
More than 60 awards were presented to members of the Tralee Branch of the Irish Red Cross at a special ceremony in The Grand Hotel, Tralee. Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley TD presented the awards, which recognised training achievements, community service and the exceptional contribution made by volunteers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Eleven Tralee Red Cross Youth members received certificates after completing programmes covering
Red Cross activities, mental health awareness and responsible mobilephone use. Tralee Rotary Club Charity Night to Support Three Kerry Causes The Rotary Club of Tralee will host a special Charity Silent Auction and Dinner at Ballygarry Estate Hotel, Tralee, on Saturday, November 14, beginning at 7pm. Proceeds from the event will support three worthy local causes: Down Syndrome Ireland Kerry, Recovery Haven Kerry and the Emily Ward at University Hospital Kerry. The evening promises a memorable combination of fine food, excellent auction prizes, good company and community spirit. Guests will enjoy a four-course dinner, followed by a silent auction featuring a wide selection of attractive items and experiences donated by generous supporters. Each beneficiary provides invaluable assistance to people and families throughout the county. Down Syndrome Ireland Kerry supports people with Down syndrome and their families, while Recovery Haven Kerry offers professional help and
services to individuals and families affected by cancer. The Emily Ward at UHK provides specialist neonatal and paediatric care to young patients. President of Tralee Rotary Club Eugene Ferris said the club was delighted to organise an enjoyable evening that would also make a meaningful difference. “The tradition of Rotary is about providing a helping hand to organisations that selflessly help others,” he said. “We are very grateful to everyone who has supported the event, donated auction prizes and helped with the arrangements. “We invite the people of Tralee and Kerry to join us, enjoy a fantastic night and help us raise as much as possible for these three remarkable causes.” Individuals, businesses and members of the wider community can support the fundraiser by attending, donating an auction prize or contributing
directly. Tickets cost €75 per person and are available from members of the Rotary Club of Tralee and through the three participating charities. For tickets or further information, telephone 087 239 9940 or email graceodonnellfg@gmail.com.

Kerry Youth Council Voices Vaping And Fenit Concerns Kerry Comhairle na nÓg has raised concerns about the growing number of vape shops in Kerry towns and delays in opening the new €1.3 million facility at Fenit Beach. The county’s official youth council unanimously passed two motions at its recent meeting in Tralee, both of which have now been referred to Kerry County Council. Brendan Locke from Ardfert proposed a motion concerning the concentration of vape shops and barbers in town centres. He said the prevalence and visibility of vape shops could help normalise vaping among young people. Members also discussed reports of young people purchasing
vapes without being asked for identification and questioned how vaping products are advertised. Aodhán Fitzgerald highlighted differences between the marketing rules for cigarettes and vapes, despite both being addictive. Clodagh O’Shea expressed concern about sweets and toys being sold in some vape shops, arguing that this could make vaping appear more attractive to younger customers. The motion called on Kerry County Council to review its planning and town-centre policies and encourage a more diverse mix of businesses. A second motion, proposed by Christian Gleasure, expressed disappointment that the completed
water-sports facility at Fenit Beach remained closed throughout the busy summer. The development, which includes changing rooms, showers, toilets and lockers, had been expected to open during the second quarter of 2026. Christian said the facility was badly needed during the summer,
when large numbers visited Fenit’s award-winning beach. He called for an explanation and a confirmed opening date. Both motions have been submitted to Kerry County Council through official channels, with feedback expected in due course.
Fenit NS wish Paddy well as he retires! The pupils, staff and Board of Management of Fenit NS wished
Paddy Godley a very happy retirement after many years of dedicated service as caretaker. He will be greatly missed by all. We wish him every happiness for the future.

Kerry Gets Set For Culture Night People across Kerry are being encouraged to celebrate the county’s creativity during Culture Night 2026 on Friday, September 18, with all events available free of charge. The programme stretches from Tralee to An Dromaid, Ballybunion to Caherdaniel, Killarney to Dingle, and Listowel to Kenmare. Events will include exhibitions, workshops, theatre, concerts, film screenings, readings, music, dance, heritage activities and street spectacles, taking place indoors and outdoors from afternoon until late evening. Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Mikey Sheehy, said Culture Night highlights the wealth of creativity found in every corner of the county. “Our artists, musicians, performers, makers and communities bring it to life, and for one evening we have an opportunity to celebrate all of that together,” he said. Cllr Sheehy also highlighted the importance of Kerry’s Gaeltacht
communities and the Irish language to the county’s cultural identity. He encouraged everyone to get involved, experience something new and enjoy the evening with friends, family and their local community. Kerry County Council Arts Officer Kate Kennelly said the programme’s strength comes from local people developing ideas and creating events within their own communities. “The Arts Office is delighted to support that work through funding, coordination and promotion, and to help bring all of that activity together for one night across the county,” she said. Culture Night is presented by the Arts Council in partnership with local authorities and cultural organisations nationwide. Kerry’s programme is coordinated by Kerry County Council’s Arts Office, working with local artists, venues, community groups and creative organisations. Additional events are supported by

Female entrepreneurs and aspiring businesswomen from Tralee, Kerry and Cork are being encouraged to attend this year’s National Women’s Enterprise Day, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026. Hosted jointly by Local Enterprise Offices Kerry and Cork, the SouthWest regional event will take place at the five-star Great Southern Hotel, Killarney, on Thursday, October 15. It forms part of a nationwide programme of 16 events promoting female entrepreneurship through networking, learning and practical business support. A special Tralee connection will feature in the event’s new “Homegrown Hero” segment. Radio Kerry presenter Elaine Kinsella will host an inspirational fireside conversation with Louise Quill, founder of the Tralee-based Tír na nÓg Children’s Foundation. Louise’s remarkable humanitarian work has transformed the lives of vulnerable children and families in Tanzania. Her story of compassion, determination and leadership is expected to be one of the most

moving and empowering highlights of the day. Elaine Kinsella, Radio Kerry’s Head of Music, national radio award winner and RTÉ Today Show panellist, will also act as MC. Keynote speaker Oonagh O’Hagan is an award-winning entrepreneur, pharmacist and global business leader who is helping to transform healthcare retail. Paola Kennedy, a wellbeing professional, educator and psychology graduate, will open proceedings with an interactive warm-up session. A “Leading Lights” panel will feature Christina Foley of Kenmare-based Inish Living, Claire Morgan of McWilliam Bags, Shannen O’Reilly of TrustDish and Virginia O’Gara of My Goodness and the Cork Urban Soil Project. Fiona Leahy of Kerry Local Enterprise Office said National Women’s Enterprise Day has spent two decades creating opportunities for women to connect, learn and access supports including mentoring, training, funding and expert advice. The programme is suitable

What exactly is Manual Lymphatic Drainage, and could it be beneficial for me?
Q: I seem to start the day feeling fine, but by the evening my stomach can feel swollen, uncomfortable and full of wind. It’s frustrating because I eat quite healthily. What could be causing it, and how could a herbalist help? Donal, Tralee A: Bloating is a very common digestive complaint and can happen for many reasons, even when you eat a healthy diet. Eating quickly, stress, constipation, fizzy drinks, chewing gum, larger meals and certain foods can all contribute. For some people, bloating may also be linked to food intolerances or an underlying digestive issue. One of the simplest places to start is with how you eat. Slow down, chew your food well and try to make meal times relaxed rather than rushed. Regular movement, plenty of fluids and supporting healthy bowel movements can also make a noticeable difference. A herbalist will usually look at the bigger picture, including diet, digestion, bowel habits, lifestyle and stress levels. Traditionally, herbs such as fennel, chamomile and peppermint have been used to support digestion and ease feelings of wind and fullness, although the most appropriate herbs will depend on the individual. It’s also important not to assume that bloating simply means you are eating the 'wrong' foods. Understanding individual patterns and supporting digestion as a whole can help improve digestive comfort without unnecessarily restricting an otherwise nutritious diet.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage — Gentle, Precise, Skilled Our lymphatic system is an important part of how the body manages fluid, supports immune function and maintains healthy tissues. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised, gentle manual therapy designed to work with the body’s lymphatic pathways using precise, rhythmic techniques. At KP Therapy, we are pleased to offer two dedicated MLD treatments. Our 30-minute Head & Neck MLD is a focused treatment that may be particularly suitable for people looking for gentle work around the face, head and neck, or as a shorter introduction to lymphatic drainage. For those looking for a more comprehensive treatment, our 80-minute Full Body MLD provides time to work systematically across the body, using appropriate lymphatic drainage techniques tailored to the individual. MLD is not simply “lighter massage”. Equally, massage does not need to be diminished to elevate MLD. Both are skilled manual therapies, with different techniques and applications. Effective MLD requires specific training, an understanding of lymphatic anatomy and physiology, and highly developed palpation skills. Our therapists approach every treatment with care, precision and respect for the individual, working within their professional scope and recognising when referral or medical advice may be appropriate. To find out which treatment may be right for you, contact KP Therapy, Tralee. We will also be providing a range of free consultations as part of Horan’s Healthstores National Expo in the Rose Hotel, Tralee next month on the 3rd & 4th of October.
