€8m Women’s Health Hub Officially Opens in Tralee Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill officially opened Tralee’s new Women’s Health Hub during a visit to Kerry this week. Located on John Joe Sheehy Road, the €8 million facility welcomed its first patients in March 2026. The 9,700 sq ft Hub brings a wide range of women’s health specialists together under one roof, providing more accessible and co-ordinated care throughout every stage of life. Services are delivered by consultants, specialist nurses and midwives, physiotherapists, infant-feeding experts, social workers, perinatal mental health professionals and bereavement support teams. The Hub also offers ambulatory gynaecology, colposcopy, nurseled urogynaecology and specialist women’s health physiotherapy. Its community-based approach is designed to support earlier diagnosis

and treatment, reduce waiting times and create smoother links between hospital and community services. Minister Carroll MacNeill said the investment demonstrated the Government’s commitment to strengthening women’s healthcare nationwide. She said the purposebuilt centre had been shaped by what women said they needed from the health service. Julie O’Neill, HSE South West Manager for Kerry, described the opening as a major step forward, providing more timely, personcentred and integrated care for women and families throughout the county. Professor John Higgins said the multidisciplinary model would improve access and strengthen clinical pathways, while Sandra O’Connor, Director of Midwifery at University Hospital Kerry, said

the Hub placed empowerment, informed choice and compassionate care at its centre. Clinical lead Dr Waleed Khattab added that bringing advanced services into the community would provide faster “see and treat” diagnostics in a welcoming and dignified setting.

During her Tralee visit, Minister Carroll MacNeill also visited University Hospital Kerry, where she met staff, reviewed planned capital projects and toured the hospital’s Palliative Care Unit

Courage and Connection in Tralee Network Ireland Kerry recently welcomed members and guests to its Coffee, Conversation & Courage morning in Tralee, celebrating resilience, friendship and women in leadership. Guest speaker Muirne Hurley, the 1994 International Rose of Tralee, shared her personal story of resilience, reinvention and finding the courage to embrace a new chapter. Her moving contribution encouraged those attending to reflect on their own journeys while enjoying breakfast and connecting with other members. Network Ireland Kerry President Aisling Foley said the event perfectly reflected the organisation’s 2026

theme of Connections, Courage and Community. She highlighted the importance of women coming together to exchange experiences and support one another. The event was organised in collaboration with Kerry Innovation Centre. Its chairperson, Bríd McElligott, welcomed the opportunity to create a space where women in business could connect and share ideas. A special presentation was also made to Eibhlin Henggeler, recognising her family’s contribution to Tralee through The Rose Hotel, local employment, tourism, sponsorship and community support.

Eibhlin received a piece by renowned Kerry artist Brian de Staic symbolising “CARA”, or friendship.

The presentation reflected the Irish saying, “Ní neart go cur le chéile” – there is no strength without unity.

KP Therapy Celebrates 5 Years in Tralee! Owner Kevin Prunty says “ As part of our Birthday celebrations , KP Therapy will also host an Open Day on Tuesday, September 1st, with staff on hand to offer advice and answer questions. Eileen to hold a Paco Coffee Morning and Fashion Show for Palliative Care this Saturday A special coffee morning and

fashion show will be held at Paco on The Mall, Tralee, on Saturday, August 29, from 11am to 2pm, with proceeds going to Palliative Care Tralee. The event is being organised by Paco manageress Eileen Whelan in memory of her brother Edmond, who spent more than five weeks in the unit before sadly passing away. Visitors can also enjoy tea, coffee and sweet treats, with wonderful spot prizes available throughout the event. Mikey O’Donnell’s Tralee Stories Take Centre Stage on Radio Kerry

Tralee’s people, places and colourful past will be celebrated in a special Radio Kerry programme with Frank Lewis on Saturday, August 29, from 9am to 11am. “Mikey O’Donnell’s Special People – and Places” will feature remarkable stories gathered from around the town, including how 14-year-old Richard Spring narrowly escaped tragedy during a rafting adventure on the Tralee Ship Canal. Vincent O’Mahony vividly recalls the incident, while Mikey reflects on those who helped prevent the canal from being filled in. Tom Bailey shares memories of boyhood adventures in Oakpark and

reveals a surprising weakness once discovered in the Munster & Leinster Bank’s safe room. The programme also visits the Oakview grave of internationally renowned clown and songwriter Johnny Patterson, who was attacked with an iron bar after attempting to make peace during a political disturbance in Tralee. Maura Early performs Patterson’s much-loved song, “The Garden Where the Praties Grow.” Denis Bracker Regan recalls the remarkable sporting tradition of Urban Terrace, where residents of just 20 houses collected an extraordinary 22 All-Ireland medals.

He also recounts Martin Bracker Regan’s amusing warning to world heavyweight boxing champion Jack Dempsey before the 1933 Kerry versus New York game at Yankee Stadium. Other contributors include Emma Hussey, whose pilgrimage to Medjugorje inspired her to work with Tralee’s Dominican community, and former councillor Johnnie Wall, who discusses solving the town’s flooding problems. Mayor Angie Bailey reflects on the Kerry women commemorated by the Town Park sculpture, while John Conway remembers Basin View, its characters and the devastating fire

at Tralee’s boot factory. The programme will be available live worldwide and as a podcast from Tuesday at radiokerry.ie. Location sound is by Siubhan Lewis, with post-production by Brendan Lewis.

THERAPY CORNER is association with

Ask Anna!

Ask the KP therapy team

Anna answers your health and wellbeing questions. I’m exhausted but can’t switch off. Are there natural ways to help my body and mind feel calm again?

I’ve been struggling to establish a regular exercise routine and keep putting it off because I’m worried about my fitness, mobility and confidence. I’d love to improve my strength, balance and cardiovascular health, but I’m not sure where to start or whether I’d feel comfortable in a large class or gym setting. Are there any supportive options for someone who needs a gentle, personalised introduction to activity and help staying motivated? Con, Tralee

Anne, Lisselton From a herbalist and nutritionist’s perspective, feeling exhausted yet unable to switch off can be a sign that the body is struggling to move effectively between periods of activity and rest. The focus is therefore on nourishing the nervous system and supporting the body’s natural rhythms. Nutrition is an important starting point. Eating regular, balanced meals with good-quality protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats can help maintain steadier energy throughout the day. Nutrients such as magnesium, B vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids contribute to normal nervous-system and psychological function. Staying well hydrated and reducing stimulants, particularly caffeine later in the day, may also help if you feel wired or restless. Herbal medicine traditionally takes an individual approach, using plant preparations to support relaxation, sleep and resilience during periods of stress. The choice depends on the person, their symptoms, general health and any medicines they are taking, rather than using one remedy for everyone. Lifestyle matters too. Natural daylight, gentle movement, regular meal times, relaxation practices and a consistent bedtime routine can help reinforce the distinction between activity and rest. A herbalist will look at the wider picture, including sleep, digestion, energy, diet and lifestyle, to understand what may be contributing to the pattern and develop an individual approach to restoring balance.

KP Therapy Celebrates 5 Years in Tralee with New Return to Activity Classes KP Therapy is celebrating five years operating in Tralee this September, and to mark the milestone, the therapy team is launching a new programme designed to help people get back into a regular routine and work towards national physical activity guidelines. The new Return to Activity classes will be delivered in small groups of just three people, with participants able to choose a class time that suits them. Blocks of classes will begin next month, offering a supportive and personalised way to build confidence and consistency with exercise. Whether your goal is improving bone health, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, balance or simply gaining more control and confidence in your body, these classes are designed to help. Set in KP Therapy’s private studio and led by the therapy team, participants will be supported throughout the programme, making it particularly suitable for those who have struggled to settle into a long-term activity routine. The launch will form part of KP Therapy’s wider “Five things” social media series, with more information being shared over the coming week. KP Therapy will also host an Open Day on Tuesday, September 1st, with staff on hand to offer advice and answer questions. Visitors can avail of a €5 for 15-minute consultation and treatment taster, as well as the opportunity to win a place on our new Return to Activity classes or a block of our hallmark treatments for pain, injury or relaxation. With five years of supporting the Tralee community behind us, KP Therapy is using this important milestone as an opportunity to help even more people take that first step towards a healthier, more active routine.

Have a good weekend!

The successful Ardfert Tractor Run

Took place on August 9 th 2026 in aid of CRY Ireland (Cardiac Risk in Youth), the Lillie Gaynor memorial tractor Run and the proceeds of €14,454.70 was presented to the parents of the late Lillie Gaynor for the CRY Ireland Charity. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the tractor participants, all donations and contributions received, all to all those who helped out on the day,

including our stewards, and to all who took part in our event.

The day far exceeded our expectations, shattered our previous record of 136 tractors and our new record is now 190. This signifies how well this charity was received and how the community and the people of Kerry came to support it.Martin Woulfe (Chairman Ardfert Tractor Run)

...Good News Only!!! TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER KERINS O’RAHILLYS GAA CLUB NOTES Senior Men’s Championship - Round 3: A 1-23 to 0-12 defeat to a clinical Beaufort side at Strand Road ended the group stage. Despite an energetic start, Beaufort’s accuracy and a late first-half goal put them in control. A three-way tie for second place between Kerins O’Rahillys, Glenflesk and Castleisland Desmonds was resolved by score difference, with Glenflesk advancing and Strand Road finishing third. The result confirms intermediate championship status for 2027. Senior Ladies Championship: A tough week for the Senior Ladies. In the opening round away to Kilcummin, the girls drew level with five minutes remaining only to lose by the minimum, 0-14 to 2-07. In Round 2 at home against Listowel, they trailed 2-04 to 1-02 at half time before an early second-half goal cut the gap to three, but Listowel pulled clear for a 5-09 to 2-05 win. A mustwin home clash against Dingle in two weeks now awaits. U10 Community Games: Huge congratulations to the Blennerville/ Ballyard U10 boys who achieved 3rd place in Ireland at the National Community Games, with a large contingent of Kerins O’Rahillys players playing a key part. U16 Girls: A magnificent second-half comeback to defeat Fossa 8-06 to 4-09 in the County League. Trailing by 12 points at the break, an astonishing 7-05 second-half blitz turned the game on its head. Next up: Scart/ Cordal on Monday in their final league fixture before the semi-finals. U14 Girls: A winning start to the North Kerry League with a 5-12 to 5-06 win over Ballymac, showing tremendous character despite losing their goalkeeper to injury. U13 Player Development: Well done to Aoife Carey, Addison Quirke and Lilly Lacey who represented Kerins O’Rahillys at the Tralee/West Kerry U13 Player Development Programme blitz in Adare. AUSTIN STACKS GAA CLUB NOTES Senior Championship: Having topped the group, Austin Stacks have been drawn to play Rathmore in the Quarter Final on Saturday September 5th at 5pm in Fitzgerald Stadium, preceded by Kenmare v Milltown at 3pm. Minor Boys: Lost to Dr Crokes in Round 2 of the County Championship, 3-15 to 1-13, after a much-improved second-half display. Now into the Shield competition, with a final group game away to Laune Rangers in Killorglin this

28

Friday 28th August 2026

Best of luck to the lads! U12 Boys: Both teams had good sessions and games, with the younger group in particular putting in one of their best performances of the season against Laune Rangers. U13 Boys - Rose of Tralee Cup: Still celebrating their cup win! The Austin Stacks boys retained the Rose Cup after winning a tough group and defeating Kerins O’Rahillys in the semi-final and Ballyduff in the final. U10 Boys: Played games against Rathmore in Go Games and enjoyed the Fossa U10 blitz among 40 clubs, representing the club well throughout. Salthill blitz coming up on September 12th. GAA4ALL: A fantastic evening for the Austin Stacks GAA4ALL All Stars team who travelled to Milltown for a training session and challenge game. Brilliant progress in skills and teamwork on display. Thanks to Milltown for their hospitality and to Power Travel for sponsoring the bus. NA GAEIL GAA CLUB NOTES Senior Men’s Club Championship: A fine away win over An Ghaeltacht in Gallarus to get the championship campaign back on track after last week’s defeat to Milltown/ Castlemaine. Trailing 0-04 to 0-01 after 11 minutes, Na Gaeil settled well and were level by the 26th minute before Ruairí Ó hAiniféin scored a crucial goal to lead at half time. Liam Cooper added a secondhalf goal and Na Gaeil held An Ghaeltacht to just two scores in the second half to run out convincing winners. The result sees Na Gaeil progress straight to the semi-finals. Senior Ladies Championship Round 2: A 1-12 to 0-12 defeat to defending champions Southern Gaels in Waterville. Na Gaeil led 5-04 at half time but Southern Gaels had a dominant ten-minute spell in the second half where they scored 1-04 without reply and Na Gaeil could not recover despite late Jadyn Lucey frees. Mothers and Others: Na Gaeil are setting up a Mothers and Others team again after a few years away. Contact Janice on 085-8424939, Helen on 087-7631977 or Susan on 086-3977307. BALLYMAC GAA CLUB NOTES Senior Ladies Championship - Round 1: A 4-14 to 4-09 win over Legion

Best of luck to St Brendan’s Board

U16 Girls - County League: A defeat to Milltown/Castlemaine ended the county league campaign, with Ballymac trailing badly at half time before a second-half revival with goals from Holly O’Neill and Aedin Healy fell just short. A committed season-long effort from the entire panel.

Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. R.N.
