Looking back over the past 8 months, its all too obvious the big chunk that the Pandemic took out of all our lives ... As things slowly get back to normal ( what is normal nowadays ?) , there are certain things that are missing, business that remain closed, people who are no longer in professions that they were in 2019, habits that have now disappeared , maybe less social , less outgoing . So when we see Irelands longest running Festival , The Rose Of Tralee , under the protective arm of Anthony O Gara and his professional team as well as his army of

volunteers ,come back after 3 years away , then we know we've got something special and we know we must support it even more. A man who was educated in St Mels School in Longford , and a stellar career that included an 8 year executive stint in Kerry Group , it would have probably been just 'as easy ' to walk away . After all there are many stories of events that have not been able to come back this year and we might never see again . But the Rose of Tralee is different... Why? Because the people of Tralee, Kerry and beyond make it so. Someone, here in Tralee in the late 1950's had an idea, a vision.. and look whats happened since! As Anthony said in his recent Tralee Chamber Alliance podcast interview. "There are other towns both home and abroad that would take your right arm off to celebrate this Irishness". Our Festivals International

reach is astounding... St Patricks Day Parade alone in New York, sees 40 Roses ( and Escorts !) come together . Indeed when I was President of Tralee Chamber of Commerce in the late 1990s , we commissioned a study to determine the financial worth of such an event to our Town ..with the conclusion that it was equivalent to a 450 job Factory to the local economy... and that was 25 years ago! So when you take a look at the full page advert in this issue
Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley, welcomes the announcement of €3,266,915 in funding for Munster Technological University (MTU) to support green initiatives and increase accessibility for students. The funding can be used to support universal access; energy efficiency and decarbonisation; to help students access laptops and other essential equipment; upgrading buildings and other minor works.
Minster Foley said: “This vital investment will ensure

that MTU continues to lead the way in terms inclusivity and accessibility for all people. This significant tranche of funding will also provide extra resources for students to access laptops and key Information and Communication Technology (ICT).”
The funding forms part of ongoing investment in the higher education sector under Project Ireland 2040 and reaffirms a strong commitment to public investment in higher

with the Festival thanking all its sponsors and supporters , ask yourself , 'am I on that list ? '..' What have I done to support this wonderful event that will be broadcast out to millions of viewers over the next week? And if you feel its not enough, don’t worry , there's always 2023! ..Anthony , his team and all the Festival supporters will make sure of that!

Kerry Motor Club’s annual Kerry Winter Rally will form one of the main events in the recently launched ‘An Turas Mór – Homecoming Kerry’ festival.
The rally has a new date –October 29 – instead of its traditional November slot on the calendar and club officials are working behind the scenes to get the biggest annual motorsport event in North Kerry off the ground. As ever the rally will be based at the Banna Beach Hotel but will have a new Tralee venue too after Kelliher’s Toyota Garage offered its state-ofthe-art premises for pre-event safety checks which will take
place on the Saturday before the main competition. This is an ideal opportunity for members of the public to see the cars up close and meet some of the drivers taking part in Sunday’s rally.
Route details and spectator locations will be announced in due course, but the club is delighted to announce that it has been included in An Turas Mór – Homecoming Kerry’ festival as a result of years of collaboration with the London Irish Motor Club. The tie in will encourage Irish immigrants based in Britain and further afield the chance to come home and experience Kerry motorsport.

An overseas participants reception will take place at the Banna Beach Hotel on Friday October 28. The month-long gathering is a county wide initiative to bring home Kerry Diaspora during October this year.

It is presented by Kerry County Council as part of the Global Irish Festival Series which is a joint initiative between Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Following on from the huge success of Dip in the Nip in 2021 the event will make a welcome return this September.
The event organised by John and Michaela Edwards of Wild Water Adventures is set to be another great day and will once again raise substantial funds for cancer services in Kerry.
“As a local swimming business, we at Wild Water Adventures deal with a lot of female swimmers, and we wanted to give something back to the community. We have a unique skill set and we have used that to run several charity events over the years. We came up with the idea of running a Dip in the Nip last year and we asked Recovery Haven if they would like to be our chosen charity,” explained John.
Such was the success of the event with 170 participants, John and Michaela are now hoping that it will be even bigger and better this year.
“Following the success of last year’s event, we have asked Kerry Cancer Support Group to come on board as a beneficiary this year as well. We are hoping to build on that success and Dip in the Nip Kerry is now set to be an annual event.”
“The feedback we received from last year's event was that women found it empowering
and emotional, with ladies of all ages and walks of life taking part. We have an allfemale support crew of guards, lifeguards, and marshals.”
The location for the Dip in the Nip is a closely guarded secret with participants only finding out a couple of days before the event but with plenty of wonderful locations close to Tralee on the list for this year’s event.
The Dip will happen at dawn on September 3, and it is a lovely social event. It is fun, exciting, empowering, daunting, exhilarating, peaceful and mindful according to participants of previous events. Everyone is on their own journey and participating for their own reasons.
This year’s chosen charities are delighted to be part of this fun event and are urging women to sign up.
Breda Dyland from the Kerry Cancer Support Group said that they are very thankful to be chosen by Wild Water Adventures as a beneficiary for this year's Dip.
"We are really looking forward to what will be a unique and personal event. I want to thank Michaela, John and their volunteers for their hard work in organising the event and I hope that the ladies of Kerry and beyond come along and join us on the 3rd,” she said. Recovery Haven too is

delighted to once again be part of a hugely successful event.
“Having seen the success of last year’s event and the pure emotion and sense of solidarity experienced by all the women who took part, we are thrilled and honoured to once again be involved in such a wonderful event. We would encourage all women to give it a go, because it is something very special and something they will not regret. As the phrase goes: ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway,” said Marisa Reidy.
Dip in the Nip is open to all women (18+) –including those who have experienced cancer themselves, those who are
supporting a friend or family member on their cancer journey or those who want to remember and honour a loved one who they lost to the disease.
Registration, priced at €40 (+ booking fee), is now open through Eventbrite and everyone who signs up will receive a custom swimming cap, a medal to mark their participation and will be automatically entered into a draw for some great prizes. Pre-registration is vital, however, as entries cannot be processed on the morning of the event. Participants are also asked, if possible, to bring tea and cakes and make this a fun social event too.

THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES.
After the heatwave my skin has become very oily and I think I have developed acne on my back and chest.
Emer.
Hi Emer, Acne is one of the most common skin conditions and AC dual is a treatment for acne available here at the CHRC.

The treatment utilises intense pulsed light technology to deliver direct bursts of blue and red light onto targeted areas of the skin. Both the blue and red light have acne fighting capabilities.
The blue light targets and eliminates the bacteria causing acne, while the longer wavelength of the red light reduces inflammation on the targeted area. Smart pulse technology embedded in the applicator ensures precise and consistent energy delivery that is maintained throughout the course of treatment. The real time cooling feature detects the applicator temperature to maintain safety and comfort.
There is no downtime and the treatment is quick and comfortable and takes roughly 30 minutes.
A course of 8-10 treatments is recommended and can be done twice weekly once four days are left in between each session.

“Your holiness”, he says. “My business is losing money and I need help. I’ll donate 10 million dollars to the Vatican if you change the Lord’s prayer from ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘Give us this day our daily chicken’”.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Sanders” the pope replies. “I cannot change the word of God. I wish you good luck with your business.”
A month later, Colonel Sanders calls back, even more desperate. “50 million dollars to the Vatican”, he says, “if you change the Lord’s prayer from ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘Give us this day our daily chicken’”.
“I’m sorry Mr. Sanders. The word of God is sacred and can’t be changed”, the pope replies. “You’ll have to try something else.”
A month later, Colonel Sanders calls back in pure desperation. “Please, your holiness. My sales are in the hole. I’ll donate 100 million dollars to the Vatican if you change the Lord’s prayer from ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘Give us this day our daily chicken’”.
The pope sighs and says, “OK, let me get back to you.” He then calls up his bishops and says, “Gentlemen, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, KFC will be donating 100 million dollars to the Vatican.” The bishops erupt in cheers. After quieting down, one asks, “and the bad news?” The pope replies solemnly, “we will be losing the Wonder Bread account”.
“Step out of the car” says the cop, “I am going to need you to take a breathalyzer test.” “I can’t”, Jim responds “You see I have very bad asthma, that
can set off an attack.”
“Alright,” says the cop, “then you’re going to have to take a blood test.” “Can’t do that either,” Jim responds, “I am a hemophiliac, if a wound is opened, I won’t stop bleeding, and I could bleed to death.”
“Ok,” the cop answers “then I will need a urine sample.” “Sorry,” says Jim “I also have diabetes, that could push my sugar count really low.”
“Fine, so just come on out, and walk a straight line for me.” “Can’t do that either” responds Jim. “Why not?” Demanded the exasperated cop. “Well, because I’m drunk!”
He was easily the worst mechanic the Luftwaffe ever had.

Clotilde O Keeffe Lyons has presented a trophy to the Tralee Flower and Garden Club on behalf of her late parents.
Regis and Rita O Keeffe of Rathfarnam Dublin were avid gardeners and won many prizes over the years.
‘My parents loved the garden’
Clotilde says. ‘They always had beautiful flowers and shrubs throughout the year. Many of my childhood memories are of time spent in the garden harvesting our own
fruit and vegetables.
The side board of our sitting room was full of trophies and plaques.’
Clotilde told us that her family members are delighted that her parents legacy will be marked by the continuing presentation of the O Keeffe trophy. The trophy being donated was originally presented by The Royal Horticultural society of Ireland in 1962.
Clotilde remembers vividly the excitement in the days
leading to the shows and competitions. So, as the club celebrates forty years of success, ‘it will be a proud moment for me to hand it over during Féile na mBláth.’
Anne Sullivan, of Tralee Flower and Garden Club, says her members are delighted with this kind gesture by the O Keeffe family.
‘We are looking forward to presenting this very special prize during Féile na mBláth.’
Last Sunday was a special day as Ballyheigue paid tribute to their All-Ireland U14 Long Puck Winner, 11 year old Jason Gaynor, who was crowned national champion at the Community Games in Carlow on Saturday finishing ahead of competitors from Waterford, Galway, and Limerick. Congratulations also to Stephen Harty who finished 5th in his Long Jump category recording a personal best.Ballyheigue also says ' Many thanks to all those who turned out to celebrate with us.'

AS HOT ON THE SPORTING FROM AS THE WEATHER WAS:
As we are into the middle of August and peak of the holiday season things are as hot as ever across many sporting fronts.
SOCCER’S ROSE CUP RETURNS:
Tralee Dynamos will be the place to be for soccer and Rose fans as the Rose Cup returns. 8 Leagues – Kerry, Clare who are the holders since the inaugural competition in 2019, Cork WSSL, the MGL with the Dublin League sending two teams, West Cork, South Tipperary and Limerick Desmond – will be represented by their u13 Girls team. The action gets underway at 11.30 following the Parade and the visit of the Roses from 11am to 11.25am. The finals of the Cup and Shield will take place at 5pm and all are welcome with admission free with a bbq also being cooked up during the day.
GAA’S ROSE CUP TO TAKE PLACE AT RAHILLYS AND NA GAEIL:
16 u13 Boys club sides will be in Tralee this Saturday for the GAA Rose Cup with teams from Kerry being joined by those from Limerick, Cork, Tipperary and Clare. The event was first started in 2009 by the late Chairman of the Tralee Town Board Jimmy Foley and this year competition is being sponsored by the Bon Secours.
LOSS OF THE RACES STILL A DISAPPOINTMENT TO MANY:
This is one time of the year when the loss of the Tralee Racecourse is keenly felt in the town, not just for the sporting aspect but the business it used to generate too. I remember coming over from Killarney to a packed Festival race meeting but now everyone is going in the opposite direction. Hopefully the future of the site at Ballybeggan can be sorted as a multi-purpose sporting venue – horse racing, cycling track, motorsports trials area, skate and BMX park, crazy golf, children’s play area etc. With a little thought and imagination it could be a brilliant addition to the town.
ALL TO PLAY FOR IN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP:
The Tralee derby in Group B of the Club Championship turned out to be a cracker with Austin Stacks just seeing off Kerins O’Rahillys. The win was also cheered on by Dr Crokes as it keeps their narrow hopes of a top two spot alive. With one game in the Group to go Templenoe are on 4 points, Austin Stacks and Rahillys on 2 and Dr Crokes pointless after two defeats.
In the Intermediate Group 2 John Mitchels went down to Laune Rangers and remain on 2 points behind Rangers who are also on 2 and Killarney Legion on 4 with Dromid Peirces pointless. So it is all to play for next weekend. On Saturday night in Group 1 Na Gaeil host Spa while in Group 2 the action is on Sunday with Rahillys hosting Templenoe and Stacks going to Crokes for 2.30 throw-ins. At the same time in Group 3 John Mitchels will also be in Killarney to face Legion.
In the Junior Premier on Sunday at 2.30 St Pats welcome St Senans to Blennerville.

The Under 13, 15 and 17 County Championships get underway this week and are a straight knock-out format.

There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 3, 32, 24 and 23. The next jackpot will be e3000.
PARNELLS NEWS:

The u14’s will play Knock/Brosna in Round 5 of the North Kerry League while the u17’s play MKL Gaels in their quarter final. The Senior Ladies are down to play Glenflesk at the weekend.
The Juvenile Academy continues each weekend with teams also in Go Games action.

ST PAT’S NEWS:
There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 4,7, 13 and 18 with the next jackpot being e2700.
While some members of the Academy are away on holidays there was still a good turn-out and they train again this Sunday.
The u12 Girls enjoyed their day out in Kenmare while the u13’s St Pat’s/ Rahillys combination had a B game against Ardfert who took the win in the Central League.
It’s a busy time for the senior players who are in action with the club and with the St Brendan’s Board whose first game in the Garvey’s Super Valu Senior Championship will be against Feale Rangers on the weekend of September 10th/11th at a neutral venue.
ON THE SOCCER FIELD:
It was a good weekend on the LoI front with the Kerry 19’s defeating Drogheda 2-1 and the 17’s drawing 2-2 with the same opposition. The 14’s also earned a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Waterford.
This Saturday only the 17’s are in action as they are away to Sligo Rovers at 3pm.
Well done to Tralee native Kevin Dennehy who set a new record of 5 hours, 56 minutes 43 for the 18.6km swim from Fenit Lock Gates to Sandy Bay. Collette Murray took on the Blennerville Lock gates around the Lighthouse to Fenit Island and completed the 11km (solo skins) in 3 hours 11 minutes. Margaret Gilbert completed the Fenit to Maherees swim (non- wetsuit).
Well done to the swimmers and all their support people.
Well done to all those who took part in the Blennerville to Fenit swim, sponsored by Smaash Burger, and to all who ensured things went off smoothly and safely.
ON THE BIKE:
