Sinead ..."It wasn’t easy to organise a wedding during a pandemic, the uncertainty of things, not knowing what the restrictions might be, let alone how in the name of all that is good were we going to get bridesmaid dresses let alone my own wedding dress!
.. Lorraine had been lucky and had picked hers in October 2020 in Simones bridal in Sligo when the shops had briefly opened .. me on the other hand had a battle ahead of me. I knew the dress I wanted but to get it was going to be a bit of a challenge. So between starting petitions to the government to deem the bridal shops as essential and appearing on IrelandAM to help with the campaign..... the girls in LoveEllie bridal kindly posted down a sample of my dress so no visits to the bridal shops with the girls for me.

It was a Friday evening after work up in my own bedroom trying the dress on before Lorraine got home from work. We ended up being very lucky with the lifting of restrictions the day before the wedding so we were able to have our band ‘Rouge’ who were amazing and our DJ Manus Leen who kept us out dancing till the early hours . We had the best day and weekend surrounded by both our families and our very best friends.

Special thanks to the following All in Ballyroe Heights Hotel who went over and above to ensure we didn’t have to worry about anything on the day. Helen O’Halloran for our beautiful bouquets and button holes & Every Occasion for the beautiful centre pieces. Andrea Kerins, Kerry Fleming and Stephanie Kerins for making us all look and feel so stunning.
Catherine Tagney from Lee photography who took control of the mad house that was our home on the morning of the wedding below are some of the fantastic memories she captured of our magical day.

Tralee takes the lead in Kerry with the focus on home this Christmas
Tralee Chamber Alliance in partnership with Kerry County Council will kick off Christmas in the heart of the Kingdom on Saturday November 27th with a fun filled day for all the family. “The emphasis is on fun and safety with the event operating under strict Covid guidelines to ensure everyone’s enjoyment in a safe environment. The local businesses have worked hard to create a memorable experience for shoppers this year and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone into the town over the coming weeks” said Kevin McCarthy, President Tralee Chamber Alliance.

The Square will be transformed into a mini North Pole, with its giant Christmas tree, magical lights and from 12pm throughout the afternoon right up until 6pm, Hollywood style snow machines will be blowing snow across the street. MC Brian Hurley will be there chatting and giving away some fantastic prizes sponsored by local businesses. Entertainment will be provided by some of Tralee’s fantastic local buskers along with carolling from local choirs. There will be festive drinks, nibbles and treats and a few surprise guests ahead of turning on the lights by the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Johnnie Wall at 5pm.
Coming into Tralee is a pleasure during the month of December with one of the most impressive festive lighting displays in Ireland. That coupled with the wonderfully decorated windows by local retailers make for a festive atmosphere like no other. Tralee is fortunate to have some of the very best independent businesses in the county standing shoulder to shoulder with high street brands offering a one stop shop for everyone. There are plenty of places to

grab a coffee, lunch or dinner to make a day of it while not having to worry about parking costs as parking will be free in Council owned car parks (max. stay periods apply) from November 29th until January 2nd.
“Tralee is at the centre of Christmas shopping traditions for many families across the county, there are people making the journey in throughout December coming from all areas of the county from Ballinskelligs to Tarbert and even further afield across the borders over into West Limerick and North Cork. We are looking forward to continuing that tradition this year and welcoming everyone into Tralee as they look forward to welcoming their loved ones home. Christmas 2021 is about reconnecting and rediscovering what Christmas at home means to us, we are inviting people from across Kerry who are both living here and abroad to get in touch with the Chamber and tell us what makes Christmas in
Tralee so special. Email us at info@tralee.ie or tag us on social media @ traleechamberalliance” says Colette O’Connor, CEO Tralee Chamber Alliance.
Following the official switch on, a festive atmosphere will continue in Tralee with Tralee Farmers Market who will have up to twenty stalls festively decorated over the two weekend’s right before Christmas, Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of December. Stalls will be decorated in festive cheer with lots of seasonal treats along with live music. The town centre will have carol singing on Thursdays and Fridays and there will be a surprise or two which will be announced ahead of December 1st. Watch this space!
Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Johnnie Wall said: “It has been another challenging year for local businesses and retailers and I am encouraging everyone in Kerry to support local when doing their shopping.
Businesses here in Tralee have done a huge amount of work to make their shops safe and to adhere to the restrictions so they deserve every support. Every year, the Council provides a limited number of parking concessions which is a small but significant initiative to encourage people to come into our towns to shop, dine and enjoy the festive season. I hope that people will avail of the concessions over the coming weeks and enjoy what Tralee has to offer, while staying safe.”
As always we urge everyone to support local where possible, give the Kerry gift card this Christmas which can be purchased at post offices across the county and remember that every euro spent locally is not only great for jobs and the economy but also for the environment.

Both practices will be attending the Colgate Caring Dentists Awards in Dublin this weekend at the InterContinental Hotel . " We were so lucky to be nominated for these prestigious awards by our patients " says Susan Crean from Crean Dental on Denny St, Tralee.
This makes the event even more special as it really reflects my team and the practice as we are so new in our business " Jane O Loughlen of Bridge Place Dental says " We are beyond thrilled and flattered to be nominated again this year.
A huge thank you to the whole team who have received a nomination for their wonderful work. Individual nominations were also received for Dr Colm O’Loghlen and Dr Susan Van Der Merwe.

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors got back to winning ways at the Tralee Sports Complex last weekend as they saw off the challenge of Bright DCU Saints by 86-72. The Warriors led throughout with a dominant third quarter setting up a comfortable win in the end.The third quarter proved decisive for the home side as they outscored their visitors by 21-14. Scores from Neary and Durox late on kept the Warriors honest but Aaron Calixte capped a superb individual performance by completing the Warriors scoring tally from a lay up and two visits to the line. The American hit a game high 38 points to put his personal seal on the 86-72 win. Next up for the Garvey’s Tralee Warriors is another home fixture with League arch rivals Griffith College Templeogue at the Tralee Sport Complex on Saturday next with tip off at 7.30pm.(photos by Liam Ryan )

There is nothing more topical at the moment than antigen testing. They are being rolled out now in homes, schools, workplaces, nightclubs and even weddings. They are also known as lateral flow tests, or as rapid testing as results are given within 15 minutes. PCR tests, while more accurate won't give a result until the next day as samples need to be sent to a lab for analysis. PCR tests are performed at test centres and give a more accurate reading by their nature, being almost 100% accurate, and are the gold standard.
Antigen tests look for proteins on the surface of the virus to ascertain the presence of the pathogen. Antigen tests can be 98/99% accurate, but I would encourage anyone buying a test to by a quality, reputable one with CE marking which shows it complies with the relevant requirements of European legislation. Also crucial is the way the test is performed.
People have had to adopt the role of a lab technician to carry out their self-testing. So to get the best out of your test please read the instructions carefully. YouTube also offers numerous guidance videos. We can also advise in-store.
It is recommended that you perform a test 3 times per week. If you get a positive result you need to get a PCR test to confirm the positive reading, and follow HSE guidelines.
At Ryles Pharmacy we are well stocked with quality antigen tests. For children who may be averse to the invasive nasal swab, we also stock lollipop like tests which involve a simple little mouth sponge. We can also supply larger groups and companies with bigger bulk quantities of antigen tests at a much reduced rate for volume.

Hi Andrea
Thank you for contacting us. Firstly, there is no set formula for valuing a home but there are basics which can be followed such as comparing recently sold properties, of a similar type of home, in the same area with your property.
This can then be adjusted accordingly to take internal condition into consideration, its orientation, location within a developement or BER rating etc

Some properties can be advertised low to lure buyers while other can be priced high to allow for negotiation.
Perhaps one price is based on the home as is? while the other is based on what the home could achieve if certain works were carried out prior to going to market?
Your neighbour is obviously a little unsure of the higher value put on the home otherwise they would likely be running with it?

With regards to the difference in value it is difficult to say why there is such a variance but I would be interested to know whether the prices your neighbour was given, were intended as opinions of value or were they offered to be the advertising value?
It would be a good idea to determine the valuation figure as oppossed to the value the home will be advertised at. If at that stage there is still €60,000 of a difference I would be asking how confident they are of achieving the same and what is their track record
of achieving initial valuation levels are?
You can check this online in anycase within a few minutes.
Without greater detail we cannot explain the difference with confidence but we are
happy to visit the property to assess the value for you if required.
Speak soon, hopefully.

KAPP is a new initiative between the National Ambulance Service and UHK Emergency Department to bring care in to the community. The aim of this service would be to treat low acuity ambulance calls in the community and aim to treat and discharge on the scene rather than transporting the patient to the Emergency Department.
Examples of appropriate calls would be minor injuries & wounds, urinary catheter issues, seizures, low velocity road traffic collisions (RTCs), minor falls (patient mobilizing) or any patient that an ambulance crew feel can benefit from the KAPP initiative. So if a patient calls an ambulance there might be an alternative solution coming their way.

• Our dedicated vehicle will be staffed by an ED Registrar and Paramedic.
• Operational Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 17:00pm.
• The team will respond to certain 112/999 calls within a 25km radius from UHK and treat the patients on scene.
• If appropriate the patient would be discharged, with some cases following up with their GP. If unwell the patient would be transported by an ambulance to hospital.
Cancer support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry has been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s Volunteer Ireland Awards, which take place in December. Tralee’s Noreen O’Flaherty, who has been with the charity since its inception in 2010 is among the three finalists in the Health and Wellbeing category of the prestigious competition, while the charity’s entire volunteer team has also made the top three in the ‘Larger Group’ category. The esteemed awards shine a light on the remarkable achievements of volunteers around the country by honouring them at a national level.
Noreen was selected for her selfless commitment to the charity for the past 10 years, not only as a key member of the gardening group and valued volunteer listener, but as a trained programme facilitator.
facilitator for the ‘Thrive and Survive’ programme, undertaking training and subsequently delivering 10 six-week programmes to Recovery Haven clients. She also undertook training to deliver the ‘Building Better Caregivers’ programme in 2020, aimed at supporting those caring for a loved one with cancer. All this is done on a voluntary basis, in addition to Noreen’s hands-on work in the charity’s garden and in the house itself.
The second nomination is for the charity’s entire team of volunteers, who are an integral cog in the Recovery Haven Kerry wheel. This includes the charity’s volunteer listeners, therapists, gardeners, fundraisers and board members.

making over 2,000 phone calls since March 2020.
Commenting on the award nominations, Recovery Haven Kerry manager Siobhan MacSweeney described the volunteers as the lifeblood of the organisation who, she said, keeps Recovery Haven’s heart pumping and full of vitality.

In recent years, Noreen trained as a programme
At the height of Covid19 restrictions, the charity’s volunteer listeners came together to provide a phone support service for clients who could not visit Recovery Haven due to lockdown,
“For the past decade, I have had the pleasure of spending time on a daily basis with members of our volunteering groups. The simple truth is
that we would not be able to deliver our services without them. We depend on them, we need them and they give us so much more that we can ever give them. They say volunteers aren’t paid because they are priceless, and we could not afford all that they give. Each volunteer, their skills and time make up a large part of Recovery Haven, so I am delighted with this acknowledgement for all our volunteers.”

Anthony and Pat were presented with €1,000 as the grand finale winners of the Lee Strand Doorstep Challenge. To celebrate one year since the launch of Lee Strand’s 100% renewable 2 litre cartons, Radio Kerry presenters travelled across the county to see who made the environmental switch and had the 2 litre cartons in their fridge. The 2021 Green Flag Awards have been announced this week by An Taisce, acknowledging Ireland’s best public parks and gardens.
Childers Park and Woodlands in Listowel and Tralee Town Park retained their prestigious Green Flag Award accreditation for 2021/22. They are joined by Tralee Wetlands which entered the competition this year for the very first time.
The award provides international recognition and is the mark of a quality park or green space and is recognised throughout the world. The Green Flag Awards are judged every year by a peer jury of green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability, and community involvement.
International accreditation for public park excellence in Ireland has increased again this year, to reach over 100 accredited public green spaces. Ireland was today awarded a total of 103 Green Flag sites, comprised of 84 formal public Green Flag Park sites, along with 19 volunteer run Green Community Sites. The Green Flag Community Award extends the Scheme to include community initiatives such as Community Gardens, Community Parks, and Tidy Towns Projects.
Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Johnny Wall stated that “these awards are due to the work of not only Kerry County Council staff but also the huge efforts of the Tidy Towns Groups and park users in Tralee, including local community groups and volunteers, with the assistance of NEWKD who operate various community employment schemes as well as the local Gardai who

regularly patrol the areas. It is great to see Tralee Wetlands receive this accreditation as it is a fantastic facility and visitor attraction.
Cathaoirleach of Listowel Municipal District, Cllr. Mike Kennelly noted that “while Childers Park and Woodlands is essentially a local amenity, it has an important role in Listowel’s economic development. The park gives
Listowel a quality of life and environment which increases its overall attractiveness as a place live, visit and invest in. The opening of the Greenway in 2022, with a connection through Childers Park and Woodlands into The Square, will enable many more people the chance to experience all of the great attractions Listowel has to offer, including our fantastic park.”

THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES.
Q. I am back working from home and back on Zoom calls. I have noticed the skin on my neck looks very loose and extremely dry.
Any recommendations?
Colette

Mary replies...
I think we are looking at ourselves differently on line but I have two suggestions. Firstly, I would recommend a skin tightening treatment which is non-surgical. It is advanced radio frequency technology to rejuvenate the appearance of skin by heating the tissue under the surface which triggers the production of collagen and elastin which in turn tightens the skin. It also works on the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A consultation is carried out and the practitioner will decide the best course of action and how many treatments will be required.
My second recommendation is a good neck cream. Alumier products are of medical grade. The neck and décolleté Firming cream contains encapsulated retinol which help firm the skin. Gentle flower acids extracts also work on removing dead skin. It also works on skin tone in the area. Once you start it will help with confidence for

Ah the much maligned Brussel Sprout, gets its name from Brussels in Belgium and is part of the Cabbage family... its actually just a mini cabbage !Typically harvested from Sept til March , they are considered a winter stock vegetable... Some might say they are like Marmite ...you love them or hate them... no middle ground here ..it can divide families at Christmas. Anyway here are a few interesting ways that may change your mind about the the poor Sprout
This unbelievably simple side dish counters the slight bitterness of brussels sprouts with a sweet maple-syrup pan sauce. Chopped chestnuts add a nice crunch to the tender brussels spouts
SHREDDED PARMESAN BRUSSELS SPROUT
Why are these ridiculously easy brussels sprouts so good? First they're coarsely shredded, which gives them an appealing texture. Then the sprouts are roasted in a hot oven until they're lightly charred, which enhances their nutty sweetness. They're finished with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese, which melts into the leaves.
BRUSSELS SPROUT, PANCETTA AND PARMESAN FLATBREADS
This flatbread pairs them with pancetta, caramelized onions, and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
BRUSSELS SPROUTS BABA GHANOUSH
whirl in the food processor, brussels sprouts and tahini come together to form a creamy dip. top it with roasted brussels sprouts and hazelnuts, along with warm pita for dipping

Almost two-thirds of drivers have decided they will not buy another petrol or diesel car, a major new survey reveals. But rather than buy an electric vehicle, a substantial number will opt for hybrid instead, the AA study discovered. The significant insight into drivers’ intentions comes just days after the publication of the Government’s Climate Action Plan, which re-iterates targets of up to one million EVs on the road by 2030.Now a majority of drivers (65pc) have ruled out buying a petrol or diesel. And more than 40pc plan to buy a hybrid.
Meanwhile current EV owners “overwhelmingly” plan to stay with electric. The survey says owning a hybrid makes a driver more than twice as likely to pick an EV next time. But for non-EV owners, the most common reason for not buying one next time around are the price, the range between charging points and access to chargers. While the majority of the 8,241 drivers surveyed said their next vehicle would not be a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, most are still reluctant to move to a fully electric car. Just 34pc of ICE owners intend to buy another. It appears that drivers are still reluctant to make the move to a full electric vehicle,” AA spokesperson Lauren Beehan said.
“Most say they would choose a hybrid – but this could be a stepping stone to buying a full EV in years to come, as current hybrid drivers are more than twice as likely to buy an EV for their next vehicle as petrol and diesel drivers are.”But there is strong sentiment against several EV-related issues. The most common factors are high purchase price (67pc), worries about the range (46pc), fear that charging takes too long (31pc), lack of regular access to a charger (30pc).“The price of a new EV is still a major stumbling block for drivers,” Ms Beehan said.Almost 90pc of those polled believe EVs must become cheaper to purchase. Other concerns included fears of electricity shortages in future.Significantly, around two-thirds drive fewer than 200km a week. That would be well within the range of most EVs.
