Killorglin Rowing Club competed at the Cork Regatta last weekend, June 21–22, at the National Rowing Centre in Farran Woods, Ovens. As the final full-status event ahead of the Irish Rowing Championships taking place from July 11th to 13th, the regatta provided a key opportunity for rowers to test their form and readiness.
The club enjoyed a series of impressive wins across several categories. The Women’s Club 2 Coxed Quad, crewed by Sadhbh O’Sullivan (cox), Kate McMahon, Maria Murphy, Chloe O’Sullivan, and Ava O’Sullivan, delivered a standout performance. In the Men’s Club 2 Double, Noah Granville and Rory Barry claimed victory, while the Men’s J18B Double Scull was won by Noah O’Flaherty and Joe Horan. These four athletes also joined forces for the Men’s J18B Coxed Quad,
with Kate McMahon coxing. Aoibhe Horan triumphed in the Women’s Intermediate Single Sculls, while Fiola Foley claimed the Women’s Club 2 Single Scull title and later partnered with Maria Murphy to win the Women’s Club 2 Double Scull.
The club congratulated all of its rowers, including Fiola, Maria, Aoibhe, Kate, Chloe, Ava, Noah, Joe, and Rory, for their outstanding performances and the determination they showed on the water throughout the weekend.
A special word of thanks was extended to all the parents, coaches—particularly Michael G. Fleming—and supporters whose dedication and encouragement continue to drive the club’s success. The focus now shifts to the Irish Rowing Championships in July, where Killorglin hopes to build on this strong momentum.
With Kerry set to face Armagh in the All-Ireland Quarter Final at Croke Park this weekend, the call has gone out loud and clear – Kerry needs its 16th man in the stands on Sunday !.
Deputy Michael Cahill and Cllr. Tommy Cahill, both proud members of Glenbeigh/Glencar GAA, are rallying the Kingdom faithful to make the journey to Dublin and back their team in their quest for Sam Maguire glory.
“Our supporters are the best in the country,” said Deputy Cahill. “They travel the length and breadth of Ireland to support the Green and Gold, often at great personal cost. We don’t have the advantage of calling Croke Park home like
the Dubs do, but what we lack in convenience, we make up for in passion and pride.”
Cllr. Tommy Cahill, a current player with Glenbeigh/Glencar and MidKerry, echoed the call. “When Kerry fans get going, it’s like we’ve an extra player on the pitch. We need a sea of green and gold in Croker, to lift the lads and drive them home.”
Backing recent calls from Paul Geaney and David Clifford for a strong supporter presence, Cllr. Cahill added, “They know the lift it gives – it can be worth five or six points. Let’s bring that energy to HQ.”
Deputy Cahill concluded, “There’s nothing like the buzz of Croke Park when Kerry are in town. Let’s fill the
stands, raise our voices, and push our team one step closer to the final.”

Kerry TD and Minister for Children, Disability, and Equality, Norma Foley, is encouraging homeowners in Tralee and across Kerry to consider applying for home energy upgrade grants through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), to help reduce heating costs and improve home comfort.
New data reveals that since 2020, 6,543 households in Kerry have already benefited from the scheme, drawing down €31 million in funding to support energy upgrades. These works include insulation, solar PV panel installation, and modern heat pump systems—all of which can significantly reduce energy bills while
making homes warmer and more efficient.
Minister Foley emphasised the benefits for Tralee residents, stating: “I strongly encourage homeowners in Tralee and surrounding areas to take advantage of these SEAI grants. Energy upgrades not only reduce bills and improve living conditions, but also contribute to vital climate action, protecting Kerry’s natural beauty for future generations.”
Nationally, over 184,000 homes have received upgrades since 2020, supported by over €1 billion in funding. For 2025, a record €550 million has been allocated to support over 64,500 energy upgrades, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to sustainable living.
Tourism Ireland continued its campaign to attract more golf visitors from North America by participating in the IAGTO North American Convention in Alabama. The event brought together key international golf and travel professionals for two days of networking and pre-arranged business meetings.
Among the twelve Irish tourism and golf operators attending were Ballybunion Golf Club and SWING Golf Ireland, both representing Kerry’s world-class golfing experiences. The event offered a prime opportunity to secure bookings for 2025 and beyond.
Aisling McDermott, Head of Global Partnerships with Tourism Ireland, described the convention as a key platform for showcasing the island’s
top-tier golf courses and warm hospitality. “A golfing trip to Ireland is about more than just the game — it’s the full experience that draws people back year after year,” she said. Golf tourism remains a major focus for Tourism Ireland, which is also leveraging major upcoming events to boost interest — including The Open at Royal Portrush, the Irish Open at The K Club, and the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in 2027.
The Alabama convention followed similar promotional efforts in Vietnam and Gran Canaria earlier this year, further strengthening Ireland’s position on the global golf tourism map.

The much-loved Kerry Wild Bee Festival returns this summer to Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park, running from July 4th to 6th, 2025, and promises a packed weekend of events celebrating pollinators, biodiversity, and community action. Organised in collaboration with Transition Kerry, the Irish Wildlife Trust Kerry Branch, and other local groups, this year’s festival will also include an outreach event at the Sneem Summer Festival on July 18th.
The festival kicks off on Friday, July 4th (6:30–8:30pm), with an opening event led by Eleanor Turner, Biodiversity Officer with Kerry County Council. “We’ll be presenting results from the bee surveys at Tralee Bay Wetlands and handing out pollinator-friendly seeds and plants,” said Eleanor. “It’s all about empowering people to make a difference in their own gardens and local green spaces.”
On Saturday, July 5th, the focus turns to Community Conversations on Actions for Pollinators, where local community and parish groups from across Kerry will gather to share their experiences. “We’re learning so much from each other,” said a Transition Kerry spokesperson. “The
All-Ireland Pollinator Plan has really inspired grassroots change.”
That afternoon, join the Wetland Ecological Corridor Walk from Tralee Bay Wetlands to The Green/Tralee Town Park. “These wetlands are essential,” said organisers. “They support pollinators, help manage flooding, and offer a natural defence against climate change.” Participants will hear from Save the Green, Irish
Wildlife Trust, and Transition Kerry on the important plants, wildlife, and history of these spaces.
On Sunday, July 6th, visitors can learn how to identify and record bees and other pollinators with guidance from the National Biodiversity Data Centre. There will also be nature art activities with Phil McSwiney of River Dog Studio, where families can craft bees,
dragonflies, and other pollinators using natural materials.
The festival then travels to Sneem on July 18th for a special outreach event in The Wild Garden (2–4pm) in partnership with Sneem Tidy Towns. Festival programmes are available at Tralee Bay Wetlands and local Kerry libraries. Everyone is invited to join this celebration of nature, creativity, and community action.

Minister for Children, Disability, Equality and Kerry TD, Norma Foley, has warmly welcomed the announcement of a €129 million investment by Astellas in its Irish operations, with a strong focus on Tralee.
The funding comes as part of a broader expansion by Astellas, one of Japan’s leading life sciences companies. The firm is already investing €330 million in a cuttingedge drug product fill facility currently under construction in Tralee, alongside its well-established plant in Killorglin.
“This is a significant vote of confidence in Tralee, in Kerry, and in the people who live and work here,” said Minister Foley. “It builds on Astellas’ existing commitment to the region and reinforces Kerry’s growing role in the global life sciences sector.” The new Tralee facility is expected to create 120 permanent jobs, while over 500 workers will be engaged
during the construction phase. It will serve as a model for sustainability and innovation, being fully digitally enabled and developed to high energy and environmental standards.
In addition to production, Astellas will establish a research and development hub in Tralee, focused on advancing antibodydrug conjugates and monoclonal antibodies. The facility will be designed to deliver high-efficiency, low-waste biologics production.
A dedicated Green Capital Project in Tralee will see the installation of solar panels, a woodchip boiler, wastewater treatment systems, and other eco-friendly upgrades, aiming to significantly cut energy use and carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, the Killorglin site will implement its own range of energysaving measures including wind turbines, chiller upgrades, and energy metering systems.
Minister Peter Burke, speaking
from Tokyo, said the investment highlights Ireland’s status as a global leader in life sciences and underlines the strength of regional enterprise development in places like Tralee.
“This is a great day for Kerry,” Minister Foley concluded, “and an even brighter future lies ahead.”

Kia’s EV3 winning the 2025 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show is more than just another trophy—it’s a clear signal that Kia’s electric vision is no passing trend. Since 2020, Kia has taken home six World Car awards, with only one going to a combustion-engine model, the North America-specific Telluride. The rest? All electric.
The EV3 impressed judges with its ability to translate the DNA of the EV9, last year’s double awardwinning full-size SUV, into a smaller, more affordable package. This wasn’t just a scaled-down EV9—it was a reimagined version, with a modern design, clean lines, and a surprisingly roomy and adaptable interior.
Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song called the win a reflection of the brand’s global leadership in sustainable, design-led innovation. Meanwhile, Steven Center, COO of Kia America, noted the growing credibility Kia is earning in the electric space.
With a range of up to 600 km (375 miles) on a single charge and 10–80% fast-charging in just 30 minutes, the EV3 blends performance with everyday practicality.
Tech like Kia’s AI assistant, lane-keeping, and highway driving assist, along with over-the-air software updates, positions it as a leader in its class.
The win adds to Kia’s expanding legacy of electric excellence. From the Soul EV to the high-performance EV6 GT, and the spacious EV9, Kia’s “Plan S” electrification strategy— built on its E-GMP platform— continues to deliver. With flat floors,
ultra-fast charging, and smart design, Kia’s electric models are proving that EVs can be efficient, thrilling, and family-friendly.
And the story’s just beginning. Faster charging and battery sustainability are next on Kia’s roadmap, showing the company is serious about shaping the future of electric mobility.
The Irish Government has confirmed the rollout of 53 new fast-charging sites for electric vehicles across the country, supported by €8 million in funding under the Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) Light Duty Vehicle initiative. These new hubs will provide 175 fast and ultra-fast connectors, helping to reduce the distance between charging points along key national routes and support the growing number of electric vehicle drivers.
Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien described the initiative as a practical step towards making EV ownership more accessible, stating, “With more chargers, more choice, and more support, we hope even more people will feel confident making the switch to electric.” The new chargers are part of a long-term plan to ensure that no EV driver is more than 60km from a fastcharging point on Ireland’s major roads.
The current rollout focuses on 1,200km of national single
carriageway roads, complementing a previous investment that saw 131 high-powered recharging points delivered at 17 motorway sites. Another funding round is also open for applications, aiming to cover an additional 3,000km of roads. Munster is set to benefit significantly from this investment, with 13 new charging hubs spread across Cork, Kerry, Limerick, and Waterford. In Cork, chargers will be located in Mallow, Charleville, Lissarda, Carrigtwohill and Castlemartyr. Kerry will see new points installed in Killarney
and along the N21 and N22 routes. Limerick gains new infrastructure in Newcastle West, Templeglantine, and Patrickswell. Waterford will also welcome two new sites at Lemybrien and Kilmeaden.

Cobh Ramblers 1-0 Kerry FC Kerry FC fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to promotion hopefuls Cobh Ramblers in a tight Munster derby at St Colman’s Park. Coming off a superb win over Bray, Kerry aimed for backto-back victories, while Cobh sought to close the gap on league leaders Dundalk.
Luke Palmer returned to the starting XI after finishing his Leaving Cert, while Joe Adams and Carl Mujaguzi returned to the bench. The first half was evenly contested, with few clear chances. Sean McGrath had Kerry’s best opportunity just before the break, but Timothy Martin denied him with a strong save. Cobh broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when a high cross caught Tim Hiemer off guard, allowing Matthew Whelan to pounce. Kerry pushed for an equaliser, with Sean O’Connell and Abel Alabi threatening late on, but the visitors couldn’t find a breakthrough. This marks Kerry’s second defeat under Colin Healy. They’ll now regroup for a key trip to Wexford on Friday, with a win potentially moving them up to sixth in the table.
